This one? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Other_Side_of_Good_and_Evil)
Escaflowne is wonderful.
so the english dub of escaflowne sucks?
Brian Drummond couldn't save that thing if he went into Zechs-overload and shat out a fireball.
QuoteBrian Drummond couldn't save that thing if he went into Zechs-overload and shat out a fireball.
Treize was probably used to that. :P Funny that Brian always nanners on in interviews about how Alan is his all-time favorite role - I was more impressed with Ed the Doorman.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu.
Bonta-kun Is freakin' awesome.
is ultimate any better than the original?
Hell, OLD Walter is the shit! Alfred Pennyworth has nothing on that guy.
Confirm what? Do I look like the Great Confirmer? Must everything be confirmed by me? Fine then, it gets my stamp of approval!
I didn't WANT to watch Eiken, I just downloaded it because I needed clips from it.
Fanservice to freaks. There's nothing remotely hot about that circus sideshow.
First off, you have this girl who meets Howl for all of 5 minutes, and then the Jello Witch comes in and casts the spell on her. Why would the Witch have any reason to be jealous of the two...
Oh yea, it was a 2 DVD set, but the second DVD only had a storyboards extra. WTF? Why waste an entire disk for some storyboards?!
I rented Howl's Moving Castle and the first DVD of Karas over the weekend.
I didn't like Howl's as much as I thought I would. Maybe my tastes are just too high or something, or maybe I'm not some liberal Canadian film lover that jacks off at every artsy film that comes out.
First off, you have this girl who meets Howl for all of 5 minutes, and then the Jello Witch comes in and casts the spell on her. Why would the Witch have any reason to be jealous of the two... they've only just met and they haven't even gotten to the raunchy sex yet! There also seems to be a lack of the important details in this movie...why does Howl ingest the spirit? Why is the Witch of the one kingdom after him? Did he have powers before he took in the Spirit? A lot was kinda left in the air. And there was other things that just bugged me about this, and I can't remember what those were.
Like Beck said the Witch of the Waste wants Howl for herself. They use to have thing but then Howl found out the Witch faked her beauty so he left her. Howl ingested Calcifer, a dying falling star, because they made a deal. Calcifer wanted to live and Howl wanted Calcifer's dark powers. There was a price to pay at the cost of Howl's heart and Calcifer's freedom. The witch from the kingdom who is after him is the King's sorcerer, Madam Suliman. She is Howl's old mentor who Howl fears. Madam Suliman is upset with Howl because he took off before completing his training, made a contract with fire demon, and refuses to assist the King with the War. Yes Howl had powers but he wanted to be stronger. Were you even paying attention to the movie?!?
Dig this though. The credits say the movie is based off a book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howl's_Moving_Castle). Now I want to read the book.
Holy shit. I just downloaded Eiken. This shit's full of nothing but fanservice. All the girls, even the 12 year olds, have fucking double-G breasts.
It's a fucking flying skeleton
I got tired of the "Rinse and Repeaters" a long time ago. Now it has to be impressive to keep me watching...so I don't watch much anime anymore.
It's why I only stuck with DBZ for like the first arc, well that and they replaced all the voice actors. (I don't like change.) but I was watching it and I was like "Wait....so now they have to train cause a bad guy is coming to kill them? Didn't we just do that?" and it's pretty much that over and over and over again. A lot of Anime suffers from this. It seems to be a story template in Japan or something. I also like underdog stories better then the Hero being the best and just beating everyone from the start. I find that boring.
I thought you already did.
Because queso has zee spiiiiice. You ppl are so white. You piss me off like that noisy-ass tourist in the art museum that was telling her peeps how this city has "so much flavor". Cheese is cheese is cheese. Kraft American singles get called queso.

Us White people like to make fun of you guys when you use Germanic words wrong too.
That's the Cubans. Fuck 'em.
You should demand a.. er.. well you can't demand a refund, nor can you demand a free rental, because it's monthly...
Demand a free month for them shipping the wrong item.
I've heard some that say Yob around here. I always thought that J had a H sound in Spanish..so wouldn't it be "Hob" not "Yob"?
Volume Three of Kyo Kara Maoh! I have to say I'm already getting bored.
Next in my queue is Gokusen, which I've already seen some of, but I don't know which episodes they were.
FUCKING FAIL!
PARTY HARD ONLY HAS 2 FRAMES NEWFAG!
gb2gai...
sorry...sorry...I don't know what came over me.
I'll pump your kin.
I'll pump your kin.
:) Hey, whatttya know? I did one that actually works!
squirrel has been rockin that .gif forever.
Im trying to watch girls bravo but it must be some kind of shitty fan sub. ... Fuckin Bullshit.
The Funimation dub of Kitty Grade has the music dubbed too. x.x
And of course it's yet another shitty orgy of girl powet and fanservice.
Kiddy Grade was one of the few series I'd actually written a review for in the past. (http://bonr.shwiggie.com/index.php?topic=1892.0) Maybe Kiddy Grade 2 will be better.

Ha ha, apparently you have to have an account on bonr (you have to have a bonr?) in order to see the review.
Merla and I are down because Kyo Kara Maoh is getting really good but we won't be getting the next volume tomorrow like we wanted to because there's a "short wait". Boo. We're suppose to visit our dad this weekend anyway but still. Not to mention it stops at volume 6 and with that news about Geneon, who knows when the rest of it will come.
Ah, it's at times such as these that I'm glad I finally made the place private. It puts off those who might think to come in and bug me.Go get one.Kiddy Grade was one of the few series I'd actually written a review for in the past. So I took a break from The Tick to watch ep 1 of girls bravo. Naturally I love the concept. I hope that the character squirrel thinks I'm similar to gets to visit the home world.
Blah. Fate: Stay/Night's Vol. 6's "Long Wait" at Netflix infuriates me. Watch it and turn it in, goobers, I wanna see the ending. Maybe it'd expect this from Halloween movies and such since it's the season and that shit and everyone's probably renting them, but I'm ready to close the book on Fate and can't because of one volume. Vol. 5 was kinda cool, but I swear, Lancer, Archer, Kuzuki, Medea... this series wastes the most awesome characters and leaves us with all the wanks.
I save final judgement on KARAS when I see the rest of it. But I don't have high hopes.
The Medicine Peddler definetely goes on my list of memorable anime characters
What is this gurren lagann thing I've heard about? Any of you watch it?
Steamboy? That relatively recent one that came out in a handful of theaters a while back?
I tried to get Eddie to watch Kyo Kara Maou a couple of weeks ago:
Eddie: I don't want to watch one of your pretty gayboy animes.
Bernie: It's not. It's funny. Get us some beers and come sit down.
Comes out of the kitchen in time to see Yuri lean out the window, stare at the moon and sigh, "Conrad....". Sets my beer down without breaking step, goes into the bedroom, and turns on the game.
O FUCK YEAH. my friend from peru brought me "versailles no bara" , one of the best animes ever. This shit is like 30 years old, and has the best(and most fucked up) ending ever, only compared in its grandiosity to Cowboy Bebop's
Plot Summary: Raised from birth as a man, the Lady Oscar commands the palace guards at Versailles in the years before the French Revolution. Her beauty and noble spirit make her a shining figure in the eyes of both men and women but she is torn between her chosen life of service and duty to class and country and her own heart and desires. She lives as a noble amidst the opulence of Versailles but her keen senses and compassion are not blinded to the poverty of the French people.
Lelouch has a bit of an edge to him. He's partially evil.
Not exactly anime, but I thought of Beck when I saw this :) (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-06-07/saber-marionette-i-neo-gene-manga-to-launch-in-july)
You mean dubbed or subbed? I know a webpage that has it subbed, if you want it.
Rose of Versailles...never done in English to my knowledge. Hopefully I'll be able to download some of it soon and get a chance to see it, given that it's often held up as one of the all-time greatest examples of anime.
There's a full version of this dance? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_RPZcSZWJo&NR=1) :o
This twelve kingdoms bitch is whiny on a shinji level. If she doesn't get her shit together I won't be able to watch this when i'm tired. She turns badass.
The series apparently stopped. Have the books been translated into English?
There's a new Slayers series. I'll watch that.
I didn't even watch episode 6 of bastard! When I read the wiki that said there are no plans for more I deleted the torrent after watching up to 5 or 4.5. I mean that's not even a half an arc.
This twelve kingdoms bitch is whiny on a shinji level. If she doesn't get her shit together I won't be able to watch this when i'm tired.
The humor of it got stale after a while. Ho ho, nerdy guy who can't get chicks is surrounded by them but they kick his ass all the time=comedy?!
The characters in Hellsing Ultimate seem like hyper insane versions of the themselves from the regular series. Everyone has a big "I'M GONNA TEAR YOUR THROAT OUT!" perma-grin on now instead of before where only alucard acted that way sometimes. Or maybe I just remember the old series differently.
Have the dubbed part 4 yet?
They just put DVD 4 on Netflix and I have it on my queue! ^_^
Edit: Also, I so want to cosplay Alucard now. :)
You have so many Hellsing manga fans jacking off because this new series is straight from the manga, who cares? I don't even read manga so I don't give a shit.
I did get DVD three though, and the bloodbath was amazingly awesome, yet disturbing. Yet Seras (and now Mr. Eyepatch Mercenary) are comic relief and pushed to the side, with little storyline. At least I would have had Seras conflicted about her vampireism and acting to try to keep Alucard from going too wild with his violent escapades.
I got the first two volumes of that series, and despite it being so full of bishies, I thought it was pretty good. Too bad Netflix conveniently forgot where it put volume three, prompting me to drop the series completely.
I'm going to look into picking up the rest of Azumanga Daioh....and I hear YOtsuba is becoming an Anime...
Despite the good qualities of the show, it tends to have a horrible "let's drag this shit out forever" problem that plagues a lot of anime. It's kinda like missing two episodes of Dragon Ball Z in between a fight: you don't really feel like you missed anything.
When did ADV kick the bucket? Purchase rights to Clannad were announced on Monday. They didn't have powet for a week and nothing got done, but they're back up. Wish they'd do more stuff like Le Chevalier D'Eon and Gilgamesh and less nubile 'n' mecha, but that's just me. :P I even liked their Gatchaman, and that's high praise, considering what a Gatchagroupie I am.
Kite Liberator had a Sopranos style ending. The screen suddenly went blank.
I heard there may be a sequel. I sure as hell hope so, because that ending sucked.
Of note: I have Superman Doomsday coming next from Netflix, followed by more Haruhi. I may move all of Haruhi to the top. I tend to space out my selections so I can see other things.
Also, has anyone seen Gun Sword, and was it any good? I put the first disc on hold and am really considering taking it off.
Great Teacher Onizuka Disc 1 has been on hold forever too. WTF?
I received Hellsing Ultimate Volume 4 in the mail from Netflix. :poo: :stickdance: :flash: :raiseroof:
I notice that Netflix has three Gurren Lagann 2-disk sets, and I wonder if that's the whole series or there's more coming?
I'm eventually going to watch Gurren Lagann since I can't move 5 feet in any anime community without everyone screaming how epic it is. Since it looks like Gainax mashed Eva, FLCL, and Abenobashi together to make this, I'm sure it will be good, but I fear it will make me hate all other anime because it will not be able to top the awesomeness.
I thought you already went as the guy from chobits.
There's another anime con coming to miami this weekend, but I don't think I'm gonna go.
Y'all hear anything about a new Dragonball Z anime coming out only in japan?
Guess it's too much to hope that the Dragonball live movie be confined to Japan.... :-\
Finally unwrapped & watched Hellsing Ultimate IV last night. I fell asleep during the Major's speech at the end and didn't wake up until the menu music started. Granted, it was late, I have a raging sore throat, I was tired from working on the floor in the flooded room followed by a lot of lemon echinacea tea heavily laced with Jameson's, but damn, he went on and on and on....manga panels don't always translate well to screen. :keelover:
Rereading the older posts in this thread, I just realized something. Crispin Freeman has a nice speaking voice and all, but there's always something about it that doesn't fit the right way and then it hit me: He sounds completely and utterly in love with himself no matter what character he's playing. Like if he met his clone, he'd totally fuck it.
Read or Die OVA was awesome.
Excel didn't bother me too much with the wackiness, since that was the whole point.
Currently downloading the Macross Frontier series, to see if it's worth a crap. I'm betting it is.
I'm working on burning the Eva 1.0 movie to disk. It's been a pain but I've got it figured out now. Looking forward to that.
Bernie, just saying (my opinion, of course) but Saiyuki goes pretty downhill a few vols in.
Honestly though, current anime is a cesspool of piss poor animation and gratuitous fan service. I just can't stand that shit anymore, seriously. And the rampant pedophilia? Good Lord.
boobies never ruin anything. anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly insane.
Yes, boobs are an ultimate good incapable of wrong. In them we trust.Agreed!
Every character on there could have been referred to as Tits McGee.

Most recent anime I've watched was Kite: Liberation (did not like it, totally went against the original)...
...and I've been watching Last Exile. I like Exile alright so far, but fuck am I tired of cliffhanger endings.

Yeah...let's hear it for underage rape! :joe:

I need to rewatch it, as it's been a few years, but I remember it being really good.
Has anyone here watched the Gundam 00 show that's airing onSciFiSyFy? The storyline as I've read it sounds much like Gundam Wing.
You know, as dumb as all those are, they're still better than most of the generic shit found in stuff like Seed and 00. And I'm confident a new G Gundam wouldn't have anything so ridiculous.
This upcoming series, Gundam Unicorn, at least takes place in the Universal Century continuity, so it has that going for it. Still, I doubt it'll bring me back into the fold.
The thing I hate most about Gundam is that it's nothing but a whole lot of depressing, preachy bullshit. "Boo hoo! War is hell! The human race is inherently evil! Wah wah wah!"
I'm obviously not a Gundam fan, because for me, G Gundam is the greatest thing they ever did.
And that's all I want from them. Another Gundam series that looks at all the Gundams that came before it, says, "Fuck all that shit," and does something completely different. Something fun and entertaining that forgoes all the conflicted protagonists and political claptrap.
And focus on martial arts over firearms.
Fuck it, I just want another G Gundam.
Okay, guess I'll finally get around to watching Gundam Wing and G. Thanks, guys.GUNDAM X TOO! If just for the character scenes, they're so well animated. The story is great too, post-apocalyptic Gundam.

Back when I cared about Gundam as a whole, I tried getting in X, but the only video files I could find were shit quality, then I heard it didn't go over in Japan and as a result ended prematurely, so I just gave up on it.

I don't like how prince what's his face just got all kooky in the end and his role in the story seemed lessened somehow, but other than that I loved it.
I enjoy sweet Gwen Stacy. Overall, it's so much better than that racid Wolverine fuckfest known as Wolverine and the X-Men. They don't even put the episodes on-demand, so I can't watch them unless I happen to turn on the tv when it's on. Fuckin' A.
By having Wolverine at the forefront, it just makes it that much more obvious that he can't use his claws for shit. Gwar!! *sticks out claws* *then sticks claws back in and punches someone*
And a hungry, hungry hippo.
... Probably Kemonozume or Mononoke, and those were two or three years ago.
Because they were a Cyrus and a Jonas or do you mean different voices?
Re: Hazel. They totally messed that up, didn't he? Isn't he alive and non-monstery in the manga? Or did you mean his personality before that point? Or a-dub a-Hazel?
That's one dub I really liked. Well done IMO.
Because they were a Cyrus and a Jonas or do you mean different voices?
It wasn't who they were as much as how they sounded. There were times when I had trouble believing the voices.
He said, "What are you complaining about, cartoons are always dubbed!" WHAT THE FUCK? Its like he's never watched a foreign film in his life. Someone stab this guy in the eye, seriously.
Re: Hazel. They totally messed that up, didn't he? Isn't he alive and non-monstery in the manga? Or did you mean his personality before that point? Or a-dub a-Hazel?
I got the Escaflowne perfect collection that came with the series and movie on some sort of sale that I can't remember. The movie was very, very pretty (plus it fixed the huge noses!), and it took a different tack on the story (mainly who Van was), but it was far less impressive than the series, which was totally loverly. Come to think of it, I haven't watched it since I bought it...maybe I'll give it another whirl after I finish the first season of G.I. Joe.
As for Patlabor, the art put me off. None of the characters have a distinctive design, and I just don't care for it when I can't tell everyone apart from the get-go.

That reminds me...
...of this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi0Mfpi5Yp4)
I have no fond memories of Inuyasha. I regret ever hearing about it.
Watching through Voltron since Wal-Mart got Green Lion in again and it was the only one I was missing. Can now watch it from start to finish.
I'd like to watch Escaflowne. How hard is it to get the good version?
I like my anime dubbed, but I like to watch Japanese movies subbed. Even I don't understand why.
Okay, we get, Squirrel, you no likey Japanese.
I seem to remember Shwiggie saying something about "watching" anime while reading the newspaper and smoking a pipe, like they're old radio dramas.
I imagine the Japanese audio track would render this impossible, hence his dislike.
True enough. With subs I find that I miss a lot of subtle animation, like facial quirks or hand gestures. Nothing important, but still.
I can understand if you are multitasking, but just watching I don't how it's distracting. I end up reading the subs almost automatically and don't miss anything.
Never heard of it.Whaaaaaat! its a classic! and gory as hell! watch it you'll like it. Stop after the 12 houses arc cause then it turns into a story like a Divine-Macondo
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
"IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAND"
When I first heard of it they called it Knights of the Zodiac.
That is how I read those books. Starting over from the front is for chimps.
What if you are reading a book in japanese?
No, its not. The beginning is in the front. The front of a Japanese book is the cover with the binding towards the right. That is the front, and that is where the beginning is.The back, damnit! the back!
It would explain the rampant sexual deviancy.
Fuck all the new Evangelion movies. I hate it when these bitches do this: they try to milk it more and more even after they said "this is it".
Fuck all the new Evangelion movies. I hate it when these bitches do this: they try to milk it more and more even after they said "this is it".
When did they ever say, "this is it"? They've been pumping this thing like crazy since it became a hit fifteen plus years ago. The cool thing is that, starting with movie #2, the storyline diverges significantly from the old one, as hinted at the end of the first and in the preview.
I was going to answer this but then my nose started bleeding so I'll leave it as it is. No.I assume that you had the same response when they came out with the previous round of films?
Which one, the Death/Rebirth one?
I assume that you had the same response when they came out with the previous round of films?
Show us your moobs. My chest lacks moobs, though the manliness would entice IDE in some kindof homoerotic show off. Anywas, boobs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>moobs.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is supposed to be showing on Adult Swim or some shit. Since I don't have cable anyway and watch it weekly online, I wasn't even aware of it. Anyone watching? I would've caught it one week but didn't realize they had already started airing. DVD of first few eps coming in May or something.
Kary says the new one follows the manga better since the previous one was started when there were only 3-4 issues printed.

Has anyone seen the pics of the new manga by Rumiko Takahashi? My reaction was : "you've got to be kidding"
That thing annoys me so. Never understood the love for Stitch.
At the same time? That seems like a lot of work. It's important to set goals for yourself.

I'd tell you where I got it from except it was some months back and I don't remember.
I'm watching Dragonball Kai because I DO NOT KNOW WHY nostalgia or something maybe.Same here, I enjoy it.
I'm working my way through Samurai 7 right now. My neighbor lent it to me and told me I should watch it. It's...ok, I guess. I think I'd like it better without all the steampunk shit.
I just finished Gurren Lagann ... as a whole that series is fucking bad ass.word.
Any word on when Summer Wars is coming out on DVD?
Funimation also has a theatrical release planned for Summer Wars this year, followed by DVD and Blu-ray releases next year.
Rewatched Macross Frontier last week in anticipation of the movie release (and inevitable fansub) in October. I love that show.
Halfway done rewatching Beast Wars all the way through. I never noticed before how much better the animation got between seasons one and two.
Some time back I downloaded Frontier and put it on DVD: one of my best moves. The movie, which is admittedly nothing but a stripped-out recap with a little new but very pretty footage, came out November '09, and the DVD release is October 7th. The time between Japanese movie releases and home video releases are insane. It really bothers me that the sequel movie comes out in February 2011...it'll be Q1 2012 before it hits DVD, at best.Rewatched Macross Frontier last week in anticipation of the movie release (and inevitable fansub) in October. I love that show.I had not heard about this. Sounds interesting.
Samurai 7 and Basilisk.
damnit they removed it !
That looks awful. Okay, its alright.
WTF cross-dressing singer?Yellow Dancer kicks ass.
That looks awful. Okay, its alright.
It has novelty value. The first ep kinda runs slow. I admit I jumped a few minutes further in.
How are you watching it? DVDs or online?I have the DVDs (fuck yeah) but I was watching short clips of it on youtube.have you every watch it?

omg you have you watch it so we can laugh and cry together! its DRA-MA. I dont want to give you spoilers but someone died there. It was the first time in my LIFE someone I """"knew"""" died, i was like fucking 5. Oooohhhhhh I still remember it :'(
No, I've never seen it. You watch all kinds of awesome old stuff.
its DRA-MA.
Wow, when did you first watch it?I was around 5. It's from the 70s so even my mom watched it when she was young. And yes, she got traumatized by the death too. its funny how they still show it in peru once in a while and theres always people watching it. Not everything is sad though but you do feel like punching her sooo many times. Oh and the ending made me rage so much everytime I think about it my blood pressure goes up. Like now.
I like Panty and Stocking.
Know why?
Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas. Panty and Stocking at least tries to be a little different.
That's all it takes for me.

All you have to do is register an account. There is some premium membership as well.
But look at the quality of the video!
Another interesting fact, at a con earlier this year I attended a panel with Dai Sato and he basically said that the animation funding is only going to shows that basically copy manga, and that few companies are putting forth money for original content or even for shows that tell a different story than the manga. This is not a bad thing, if you ask me. This way, only shows based on successful books will be greenlit, which means the manga medium (which I generally don't read) will serve as a filter for anime in the future. This should result in better shows, if not visually (like GTO, a great series that got middling artistic quality in the anime).
It is an interesting parallel to Hollywood here.
I would prefer original stuff to adaptations. This would only be a problem if you're not only reading lots of manga but are heavily involved in them. Otherwise, point of origin is irrelevant. I don't, so it makes no difference.
*
Judging by one episode, and possibly an early one, at that, isn't a good indicator.
I don't see why not. How long does something get to torture me before I shut it off? And it wasn't an early ep, either, it was where Lin and Ed are inside of Envy
You're both wrong it's Lucky Charms. It's magically delicious!

Mobile Suit Gundam 00, but I'm not really keeping up with it.There's a "Cafe Gundam" outside of Akihabara station. I've never been there since I'm not a fan of Gundam but I bet its full with weaboos haha that area is PACKED with them (and with maids cafe too ;-) )
So, when you say weaboo do you mean there are foreigners?

Neither of those are anime.
There has been anime very similar to Star Trek. They're all boring as shit.
Kaaaaaaaannnuu!!!!
Oh my. How delightfully ethnic. *turns up nose in an insufferably priggish manner*
Too late. The moment already passed.
Taco I like: Soft, flour taco. One egg, scrambled but not all tough and shit. Spinach leaves. Barbacoa. Avocado. Sprinkle parsley.Nuri wtf, thats not a taco, that sounds more like what a hipster would order.
Dammit, I'm hungry.
Then uncircumcised men are definitely not for you.
Then uncircumcised men are definitely not for you.EWWWWW
Faye, you live in the land of uncircumcised men.
You're surrounded by them every day of your life.
And chances are most them aren't cleaning properly.
So if you ever catch a whiff of something mysterious and awful, you know damn well what it is.
You're welcome.
Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.
I have been watching Blacker than Dark (something like that)...
So far, kind of boring. The synopsis made it sound interesting. Hopefully it picks up.
OMG Go watch it right now.
Just started watching OnePiece but I fucked up and started with season 1 4th voyage.dude FUCK one piece. THey have shit of that show EVERYWHERE. You go to 711, EVERYTHING is about onepiece. I think i saw tampons of them once. Japanese overdo it so badly.
So is that disc four or episode 4?I'm assuming it's the 4th DVD set from season one.

It's 940248024802 more popular here.
No, I'm sure it's One Piece. Where Luffy takes five episodes to charge up his kamehameha.I TOTALLY forgot about that thing! Goku taking a whole week charging his goddamn kamehameha, that was effing crazy. And the fights that would last a month, oh god.
I saw it in the satellite view on Google maps.
Got the first disk of Black Lagoon. It ends with the first of the two episodes with the nazis.
I watched the first ep of Gurren Lagaan and found it very meh. Kinda annoyed Netflix doesn't stream GTO since last I checked, they were missing a couple of discs.

Ha, I just saw an episode of GITS:SAC because I felt like watching it after rereading my GITS manga. I like the manga so much better.
Evangelion, which was cool but a little too preachy and artsy fartsy for me but I know Shwiggs worships it so I will say no more.

Too late.
Of all the complaints I've heard, the former has never been one of them. "Pretentious"..."nonsensical"..."trippy"..."f'ed up ending"...I can see these, but "preachy"?
BTW, for you Trigun people, you know there's a new movie, right? Come to think of it, the BluRay's been released in Japan, so there should be some fansubs floating around....see y'all later.
Is Samarui 7 worth a damn? My dad randomly met one of the American VAs at a library opening. It looks interesting... Maybe. If you haven't seen Seven Samurai, 7 Samurai it's definitely worth a watching.
I'm already "meh" to the IDEA of a Trigun movie so I should probably pass on the movie itself. I have Samurai 7 in my stream queue for a bored day.
oh fuck yeah . I used to have a crush on Saitou (Aoshi was my main husbando though) until I saw how he looked like in real life.
Nuri is right, watch the series first. Stop after the Kyoto arc if you want to follow the manga. What happened is that after the Kyoto arc the author wasnt writing as fast as the guys doing the anime so they started creating "fillers episodes" that sucked SO MUCH that the ratings dropped, taking the series out of tv.
Omg its like going back in time! this used to be my number one series, i even made a webpage about them lol (nerd, i know). It was even on tv, it was THAT good.

Everybody did that back then. Especially when there used to be a shit-ton of free webspace.

Your website was on TV?
Why was it on TV?
Yeah, well, DarthNuriko's Sphere played a teller on the X-Files once.
Something like that.
I'm rewatching Basilisk right now. Did four eps of Le Chevalier D'eon and it's okay. I liked it better than Gurren Lagann but I'm in no hurry to bother finishing it if ever. Saw some of the first ep of Mushi-Shi and it seemed decent.
I never understood why they let Goku keep the same VA (oh, I'm sorry, seiyū :P) he had as a child, and then give the same one to each of his kids.
I may have seen it, but I don't remember. If I did, it apparently wasn't memorable enough to recall.
BTW, does anybody remember Last Exile? It was one of the few Gonzo titles that was actually very good, as opposed to just looking good. They're making a sequel (http://www.animenation.net/blog/2011/02/10/new-last-exile-confirmed/)...and if it's as half as good as the original, it's must-see TV.
Oh man, remember Wolf's Rain? Now there was a letdown.
Souten Kouro is good, its romance of the 3 kingdoms the anime.
Cyclops' tits
Pics plz!
I like what they did with Wolverine, actually.
I like what they did with Wolverine, actually.
Really? He looks like Spike Spiegel with a powet mullet, IMO.
Cyclops and Storm are some sexy bitches!
I watched the first episode of the Wolverine Anime just to get an idea. It's pretty stupid. Wolverine really looks ridiculously non Wolveriney.
I watched an episode of this big-boobied crap: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sekirei Yet another harem "comedy" where all of the characters felt like they were stolen from other shows. Yeah, so I'm totally passing on the rest.
...
Titty Titty Green Lantern?
Here I figured with the place where she appears int the anime that Asuka would be all over this thing! oh well 'll propbably chell this one out thanks for the review
I watched episode one of Honey and Clover on Netflix and imagine my surprise that it's actually the sub and not the dub. Too bad I don't really care for it though. Those dudes being in love with that tiny child-like chick, it feels like I'm watching "The Story of Two Dougs".
As anime goes I much prefer to old school method of underaged girls drawn as adults to the current method of adults drawn as being underaged...
No, she's supposed to be 18 but looks and acts 12. EW. And the guy she apparently ends up with (since I read spoilers) comes off as a total douchebag.
I also saw the first two eps of Spice and Wolf. I kinda don't want to spoil this one for myself but at the same time I want to know if something ever freakin' happens. Because it feels like I'm watching two people talk to each other in the car on a roadtrip. Except we never arrive anywhere.
And thank u, toe!
I stuck with it and, yeah, it's a little easy-going for my tastes. But the two leads are solid characters, so it makes up for it. But by God, that Engrish end-theme kills me.
Me and the GF have been watching Spice and Wolf. I quite like it, she does as well.
Me and the GF have been watching Spice and Wolf. I quite like it, she does as well.
I liked season one. Then there was a filler extra ep or OVA or maybe it was actually ep one of season 2 that sucked and I quit.
Come on, Shwiggie. You know you want it.
Dear Mr. Evangelion movie,
Thank you for the Asuka nude scene, 18 instances of Asuka fan service and last but certainly not least, the pervy unit 03 test suit which will forever be immortalized in pervy toys and merchandise by our friends in the east who have wisely decided that such a thing is culturally and socially acceptable…
I certainly appreciated that this film was a departure from the source material, while the first film was a less than compelling rehash of existing scenes. While certainly some details can be changed, there are certainly some things which are so fundamentally Evangelion that they should not be touched.
Simple themes like Shinji being a bitch with daddy issues, Rei being cold and boring, Evas fighting angels and… oh that’s right…
… Asuka actually being in the whole fucking story and not just dying in some bull shit scene that wasn’t even the climax of the movie! Asuka’s supposed to live when pretty much the whole fucking world dies. Even giant crazy earth sized fucking Rei dies and is nothing but a bleeding head in the ocean while Asuka’s chillin’ on the beach like it was a fucking party and she’s getting a tan. She doesn’t die when she’s beat the shit up and in hospital. She doesn’t die when the 3rd impact turns the whole fucking planet to goo. She doesn’t die when little bitch Shinji tries to go all Chris Benoit on her throat. She doesn’t die ’cause she’s hard as nails and the best character in these shows and movies and the only thing worse than not having her at all in the joke of a first movie is killing her ass off and replacing her with some reject stripper bitch in a plaid skirt and glasses who no one fucking likes anyway ’cause she’s a stupid bitch of a bitchy bitch!
3rd impact? The 4th impact’s gonna be Asuka coming back and laying the smack down on all the stupid bitches who cried about other bull shit while they should have been trying to clone Asuka or doing some AT Field hand waving Deus Ex Machina shit to bring her sweet ass back.
Surely, some Eva magic will make her return in some fashion in Evangelion 3.1415 You Will (Not) Settle on a Numbering Scheme. Please include much fan service and borderline nude scenes when you chose to do so. If you do not chose to bring her back, please fuck off.
Sincerely,
aDam Gardner
I tried to watch the first movie but the disc was so damn dirty I barely got through the first fight scene. Netflix needs to learn to clean their stuff off. Speaking of Netflix, They started streaming Naruto, Bleach and InuYasha but...they are all subs. WHY??!!!

The only way the new eps can be good is if they use the same voice actors and artists as before. GOod luck on that
and whatevs, it was not. It was only 4 episodes to fight .. fuck what was his name, Soujiro?? and not that many to fight Shishio, so there!Right. Only 4 episodes to fight out of a whole season of jerking off around it. It was full on Drag On Ball Z caliber foolishness.
IS HE? shit i didnt know!
Yeah, isn't Saitou dead?
IS HE? shit i didnt know!
My point is the only point of the season was to get to and fight Shishio. The fact that more time was spent on the mini boss(es) is even worse! What a waste of time. Oh my got it's a 2 episode long flashback to the past of mini boss #2! FASCINATING!!! What exactly happened that whole season throughout 45 episodes? Kenshin fought a bunch of a people to get to Shishio, then Kenshin fought Shishio. What happened in the first season in a mere 27 episodes? I shit ton of stuff including many individual stories isolated to their own episodes or short series of a few episodes with many events and character interactions.
What happened in season 3? No idea. I gave up after that Shishio bull shit.
That's pretty much the place to give up anyway.at first i lol'd cause saitou smokes like a chimney too, and then i aww'd
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirotaka_Suzuoki Claimed by teh lung cancer about four years ago.
Beats having Saitou with a one of those robot-voice box thingies I suppose.Smoking through a hole in his throat, like the Cigarette Smoking man?
Sengoku Basara Devil kings anime. good shit.
So you don't like it because it's too much like a Sailor Moon story arc?Not at all. In Sailor Moon each season took much longer to tell than the equivalent story in the manga. To compensate for this most seasons had a healthy mix of episodes which progressed some sort of oerall story, and episodes which had an individual story onto themselves. The problem comes when a series sticks closely to the original story, but drags that story over a long time and doesn't fill those bits in with any new content. The Sailor Moon anime had a ton of story development that's outside of the scope of the manga by the very fact that there was so much more time to tell that same story. Compare that to the Drag On Balls of the world where they sit around doing dick all for most episodes just waiting for something to happen.
On a related note, Sailor Mars is still totally fuckable. That is all.:aroused:
Read the ending of KareKano online since I used to looooove the anime when I was little and I heard about the f---ed up ending. I dont think anyone here has seen Karekano, am i correct?
anyways dont waste your time, the ending sucks
That was always one I wanted to get around to seeing but never did. How does it end?
Despite its flaws, Kare Kano was one of my favorite anime series ever. (http://bonr.shwiggie.com/index.php?page=9) I don't remember where it took its turn...probably when it started focusing on Arima's screwed up past around volume 13...but I agree with you: the last third or so of that manga series was ass.OMG YES THE EPISODE RECAP. Everytime I would see an episode with that I would want to rip my hair off. THey did whole episodes recapping the shit, didnt it? like evangelion. goddamn

So the main guy (arima) and the main girl (yukino) end up together of course. But the guy rapes the girl and she gets pregnant (when they were still teens). They forward it like hmm 15 years maybe? i cant remember, but now they have twins too, and their first child, a girl, starts going to highschool and the main guy's best friend starts having feelings for the GIRL. YES, ARIMA'S DAUGHTER THAT JUST STARTED HIGHSCHOOL and the girl tells him she loves him etc and he accepts it blablabla bullshit blabla. Worst ending ever
I tried watching Slayers ...
I couldn't get past the first episode. It was so fucking cheesy.
I've seen a few episodes of that one. Didn't much care for it.
Deadman Wonderland
Kaiji 2
Fairy Tale
Stein's Gate
Tiger and Bunny
Beezlebub

And slamdunk...sorta kinda.
Thinking about watching darker than black too.
I quit X-Men when Cyclops was riding a crotch rocket, speeding away from a helicopter, but then he does a 180, and the sides of the bike open up and all these missiles shoot out, destroying the helicopter.
Why the fuck would Cyclops need a vehicle that shoots missiles?
Also, from what I could tell his eye beam functions as a laser, what with the burning and the cutting and whatnot, which anyone who's ever followed X-Men knows is completely fucking wrong.
Speaking of Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I've had it sitting on my hard drive since last March. Is it better or worse than Summer Wars?

It was worth it though.
Merla's been watching this show called Blue Exorcist about twins that are sons of Satin. I mean, Satan. But they say it "Satin". It would actually be a better show if they were the sons of Satin. I can't say I care for it that much, seems kinda generic to me.
Why they would artificially lengthen the anime with clip shows and flashbacks when the manga had already long since ended is beyond me.
1.0 almost exactly follows the original series up to episode 6. 2.0 burns through most of the series up to somewhere around episode 20, but it diverges minorly in most places, majorly in some, and generally makes you glad you toughed out 1.0.
As for canonicity (http://wiki.evageeks.org/Theory_and_Analysis:What_Is_Canon%3F)...it's an official derivative work, so I'd say it's part of the canon. However, I consider the Rebuild movies a separate continuity from the original series and subsequent films, much like the manga.
How can you just watch ep 1 and then the last ep!?
Im watching Eden of the East it's pretty good so far.
Did you see both eden movies?
Thundercats.
It's kind of lame.
I've been sitting on Eden of the East for a while now, one day I might actually watch it.
Or maybe one of you guys could just summarize it and save me the trouble.
Here is a link to eden of the east movie 2
It's the dub, I don't know if you were watching subbed or dubbed, the dub is very well acted.
This is some deep shit that a 13 yr old would never comprehend unless they had a working knowledge of japan's history. The characters are rich and defined. The ideology is real.

I decided a long time ago not to embroil myself in another series with episode counts in the triple digits. When I realized I'd be over the hill before getting done with Bleach, I quit before I got started good. Which was a good idea, anyway, as I hear my younger cousins constantly bitching about how long and drawn out it is. One Piece is another like that, except it's worse due to the bald-faced lie that is the title: it's around a hundred and fifty pieces at this point.
The 50 some-odd episode series are my limit, and only when they're as good as FMA Brotherhood.
I wonder iif anyone put an ep guide online with whats filler and what isnt
Been watching Headmasters again.
Man, it's a miracle Transformers went on another two seasons in Japan. But I hope they release Masterforce in the US...that was a fun show. I still haven't picked up Victory again, as I got tired of it after eight episodes.

Hyuck.
Escaflowne is totally homoerotic. You seem to go for that stuff.
Macross is still my favorite non-sentient giant robot series. I never could get into Gundam.
In the Latin American dub of the 1979 film version, Planet Prometheum's name is changed for Cybertron, the name of the home planet of the Transformers.
Are you saying there is more to 999 than those daft punk music videos? Like an actual anime movie or something? Cause I'd watch that. That movie's great. I hear of a Blu-Ray in the works which would be cooooool.
One day I'll sit down and watch all of Harlock...Not sure there are enough hours in one day...
one day.
I guess I'll be watching that movie... one more time...
Did you read that Interstella 5555 user review? I know user reviews typically need to be taken with a grain of salt, but it's something to keep in mind.Interesting. Though ever since hearing all the scathing review of the Ghost in the Shell Blu-Ray, that turned out looking great, I think some people are just stupid bitches who think something looks bad if it wasn't coloured digitally. So it might suck, or this guy might be a bitch.
Also, Amazon.com lists it at $32, while Amazon.ca lists it at $14. Strangeness.Weird. Also it<s been out since last week. Maybe we got a different version because we need it to be bilingual... you know for the menus because the movie has no dialogue...
I guess I'll be watching that movie... one more time...
haha
Yeah I seem to remember the harlock characters being in cross genre shit. Like he's not a space pirate in some stuff?
But I don't think that was all meant to be in one universe it's kind of like the extra stuff about TTGL that came out afterwards with them in a fantasy setting.
REDLINE IS FUCKIN AMAZING!
See it now.
I'm disappointed that after my heartfelt recommendation it took you over a month to see this.
HSOTD was awesome. I saw the unedited version.
Blood-C is good but edited. I might actually watch it again just for the gory deaths when it comes out on dvd.
Oh wait you mean like shit was completely edited out, not censored.
Hmmm then I don't know maybe I saw the edited version too, I'm not sure.
I just mean there were no big bars of light like on Blood-C and Manyuu.
Those previews are part of the show. If they cut them out, you'd have an even more vocal group of people whining to put them back in.
"Where the fuck are the previews? These DVDs have been edited! Ragrgagragaaargagagaaaa!"
I remember on Excel Saga, Excel would pop up in a little bubble set against a fake 20th Century Fox logo and spew out the next episode's plot summary so rapidly that it was practically unintelligible.
Those were okay.
laser dics
Sailor Moon
laser dics
It needed pointing out.
I just started rewatching Excel Saga. It's...not as good as I remember.
I agree, but I'll echo Beck on this one: most stuff isn't as good the second time around. It's like leftovers for dinner.I just started rewatching Excel Saga. It's...not as good as I remember.
I think this statement probably applies to most anime.
No one right now. The series is playing again in other countries, so I think if there was a serious buyer it could actually be rereleased now, but I don't think anyone's biting.Sailor Moon
What's the deal with the US rights for that? Who has them now? Anyone?
I'm not sure if I have a good media server option for Mac.
I can get the file to play without having to reencode, but no subs, so really all I need now is to be able to add the subs. I think I had a program that did it a while back but it wasn't free and ... I don't think I ever paid for it. My preference is to not reencode because of quality loss, but for something that's already SD it's not the end of the world.
waiting for the dub of last exile
The one I mentioned, Playstation Media Server (http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/detail?name=pms-macosx-1.40.0.dmg&can=2&q=) (PMS for short :P), is available for Mac. But only Intel-powered Macs.Awesome, thanks. I'll try it out. I don't really want to put a ton of effort into just watching a 13 episode series so hopefully that works.
waiting for the dub of last exile
It's been dubbed for awhile now. That's how I watched it on Netflix, I am sure of it.
Rama, is that set you picked up actually Robotech or the redubbed Macross that came out not too long ago? They were both based on the Animego-restored Macross masters, which would explain why the credits are different.
Maybe even better than Wolverine and the X-men.
I think it's going to go on forever like One Piece and I'm in on the ground floor baby!
:lmao: I thought he was okay as one of the Hitachin twins in Ouran. His Son Goku from Saiyuki gets a pass, too, but that character sorta IS a whiny bitch. But I think the number of roles he should be playing greatly dwarf the number he's actually casted in.His harem anime is his younger sisters, I think. Makes it even creepier. In any case I think the boy's supposed to be King Arthur or some shit. I don't know if you finished it but I personally found the entire series bland and stupid.
I watched this thing called Tears to Tiara. I thought the first ep was pretty good. But then I saw more episodes and it kinda gets dumber imo. The main dude apparently is going to get a loli harem (YAWN), it injects more comedy into the plot (most of it falls flat), and skips important parts (like the main dude becoming chief of the tribe and not one fuck is given that day, huh?)... among other things. I don't think I'll be sticking with it if it continues getting progressively stupid like this, but I'm going to give it another ep or two. If it plateaus, I could stand to see the end since the story moves at good pace. Also, the secondary male character is played by Chris Ayres, older brother to Greg, whose voice is equally irritating AND he's trying to do some kind of accent at the same time. EGAD. Awful. In fact, several characters had weird inconsistent accents. I don't know why they bothered to tell you the truth.
It wasn't for me.
I can't believe you ppl are having these kind of reactions to the fact that I didn't like your precious Redline. (Not even "hate", btw.) What does it matter to you if I don't like it? Do you enjoy it less or something? Would you rather I lied to you? "Tee hee! Redline was magnificent! " Here, I'll post on it further and you can cry some more:Anime: it's serious business 8) Besides, I'm not the one who posted an 11-line rebuttal!
I thought it was generally ugly-looking as far as designs go. Characters and all.Aliens are generally going to be ugly. I appreciated that they didn't go totally stereotypical anime-style on this movie, as anime itself is sort of passé these days.
I dug the color palette.Agreed. It was different. But good different.
I liked Sonoshee. What little I saw of her anyway.Don't know how you based this on fifteen or so minutes of viewing, but anyway. While it was really JP's story, I'd have liked to have seen more of her and her backstory, too. Admittedly, I felt we saw a tad too much of her later on...while a titty-flash is simple anime fan service, for a flick specifically designed by its director to appeal to American viewers, such a scene diminishes the potential audience. It doesn't matter how totally casual it was.
The story bored me. In fact, the main character guy looked as bored half the time as I felt.JP is a laid-back goof who gets off on racing. He shows more passion down the line.
I don't want to see characters doing gross shit like wiping coke on his teeth or whatever the fuck that was. Gross. Don't want it.Eh, mobsters do gross stuff. It's hardly the grossest thing I saw in the movie (the spaghetti worms were more gross to me...and to Sonoshee :D).
The animation was weird in a way that almost made me nauseous. I appreciate it's differences but that's the limit.Good thing you stopped when you did, because the Redline race was far more epic in this regard. The hurried feeling the animation conveyed was one reason I found it so great, particularly in HD and surround sound. I found everything going on visually to be exhilarating.
I quit the movie but picked up the OST afterwards because I kinda liked the music.Good move...the score really fit the flick.
And I DO have to care to watch something. If I can't care at all, then there's no point in watching it.I definitely know how that is...I just wanted to give you a hard time for it. I don't even bother watching most stuff people recommend to me.
Quotepocalypse
My problem is that I have very lenient and hit-or-miss taste in the stuff. I'll watch critically acclaimed stuff and hate it, yet take the most God-awful horrible shit and find something to like in it.
Never heard of that. Is it like Read or Die?
I've got but not yet seen Baccano because I picked it up before I realized it was one of those weird-ass mindjob shows that actually requires you to pay attention to figure it out. Despite my abiding love for Evangelion, I'm tired of those types. I want brainless, fun stuff that I can forget after a short layover.
half the weaboo girls on Facebook are besides themselves with joy and trying to figure out what Hellsing product they should have Crispin sign. What do you expect, the dude has played Alucard, and he looks like a Twilight character. That said, I'd list him among the top dub VAs. It's said that he's a good guest on the convention circuit, so it should be worth going.
The Blade anime is pretty good. It's interesting to see Japanese vampires, they're all about being kind of zombie like and the glowing eyes. They also keep putting in weird animal vapires like birds with long necks. Weird...
Anyway the shit with Blade is cool. His origin story and all that.
Then last night I was an episode named "Day Walker and Mutant". They have a lot of engineered vampires so I figured that's what it's about.
Then this slim guy with spikey hair shows up and I'm thinking I've seen this guy before... oh wait, his name is Logan?
It's fucking Wolverine... in Blade... dropping refereces to his stupid ass anime show that sucks. That really ruined the whole tone of the world for me having that kind of crossover. Blade shouldn't interact with the rest of the Marvel universe. It cheapens the whole thing.
And Crispin Freeman turned out to be a bit of a douche. Incredibly smart, but a bit of a cocky smartass. And that hair. He looks like a cross between Grace Topher and a former NSync member. Who does their hair like that?
It's not like it would be inauthentic to the comics. Everyone mows everyone else's grass these days, there's no separation. It's kind of what I've grown to loathe about most superhero stuff.Blade is at it's worst in comics form as far as I'm concerned. And the Marvel universe is a total joke. Blade is published by Marvel, but his existence alongside other Marvel superhoroes just cheapens the whole story. Doing this kind of crossover is just stupid. It's like when you have Superman show up in Batman. Batman is a very realistic character with normal human powers who fights slightly stronger than average villans... then you drop him in the DC universe and it's stupid.
Detective Comics comics. And on a monthly basis, Detective Comics releases a comic called Detective Comics. It's never not about Batman. That's some SIN number, PIN number shit right there.
It's Min-Yoh-Nah
I met him he's not as bad as INTERNET says, actually seemed pretty nice.
Robotech: The Masters aka Southern Cross
Wasn't it Faye that was on the warpath over some anime dude who fucks his underage fans at conventions?I need to get into voice acting.
Robotech: The Masters aka Southern Cross
This was, by far, my least favorite "saga" of the Robotech triumvirate. The mecha designs were blah, the characters were difficult to cheer for, and virtually nothing happened that amounted to anything. If you're watching it to get to the Invid saga, I wouldn't bother. The only thing it contributes to the overarching story is explaining the Invid and how they were there at the start of the New Generation. One could say that the pupil pistol concept from Southern Cross comes up again, IIRC, in Guld's YF-21 from Macross Plus, but that's probably a stretch.
BTW, if you've never watched it, Macross Plus is a GREAT show. Despite being set and fitting neatly within the Macross universe, it has the added benefit of being stand-alone. While the OVA version has more material, the movie version is better, so I recommend it instead. Come to think of it, I haven't watched this one in a while....
Wasn't it Faye that was on the warpath over some anime dude who fucks his underage fans at conventions?I need to get into voice acting.
Oh yeah I know. I mean I could sum up everything that happened in The Master that played into New Generation in one sentence. I've seen all of Robotech before, but this is just kinda an OCD type thing. Besides I'm already on the New Generation which I really, really enjoy.
And Yeah I was want to see Macross Plus and Macross 7 for that matter. I like the idea of sequels to Macross even though I've never seen any. Kinda wish they have done what Voltron did and go back and order more episodes of the show from the same animation company rather then trying to fit other anime together. (although we did get vehicle Voltron...which did really bad if I remember right. People loved the Lions.) but alas....they didn't.
Let's...

That's right, it was Faye. How could I confuse the two?
focusing on Fujiko
That's right, it was Faye. How could I confuse the two? What? I think he's hot, 8/10 would bang, etc etc. Never seen/heard any of his work , but I've come along a lot of people and threads talking about him and bitching about how he's rude to people, how he only flirts with young girls and do them etc etc. No evidence he fucked a minor though. I guess it's just a case of middle age crisis
And, yes, that was her reason. I have a hard time believing it, though.

Edit:
Btw Nuri, have you ever watched Rumiko Takahashi's "Maison Ikkoku"? There's a channel here that always shows her toons at night. First was Ranma, Inuyasha, also the one with the Oni woman, and now the Maison Ikkoku. I think it's funny how the characters all look the same in all her mangas, and yet she keeps selling them. THey all have t hesame personalities too, everything. Can't believe she's one of the wealthiest people in Japan
I didn't know there was one. Was it a train wreck?Yes. It was "cute" cause they really tried. but....You can watch the whole movie in youtube though, but really, it isn't worth it ( I Just watched it cause it was on tv). The movie its about the first couple of episodes only, but they don't follow the original story line (so no Ryouga, damnit). Ranma looks skinny and ugly. Kuno 8/10
LOL, Ranma is ugs! He looks totally old. And female Ranma is not cute at all. Female Ranma should be way cuter than Akane. And that raggedy panda. Ha ha, it's so terrible but awful in a good, lulzy way.I know right, Ranma is thin too. The bad guy was such a joke. I wonder if they'll do an Inuyasha one
Aw, there, there. Would it make you feel better if I said you're ugs?
Body's important but I mainly go by face. Hey, I watched 3 out of 4 seasons of Rupaul's Drag Race. I'm, like, an expert or sum shit.
Rama, just add your good ol' SHA at the end, then you won't get confused
No, you guy have to add Ranma not Sha, so I don't misread it.
Rama means tree stick in spanish, just FYI
No, you guy have to add Ranma not Sha, so I don't misread it.
"Tree stick"? Like a branch or just any old stick made out of tree?I don't know if its cause I just had a niiiiice lychee martini or what, but I lol'd whole-heartedly at that line
No, you guy have to add Ranma not Sha, so I don't misread it.
Babelfish fails me.
Now a tree will hunt you down and eat your baby.
Please use the electronic form... for the sake of trees.I'm reminded of that stupid MGMT song again. :/
That image is hilarious, in context (http://kotaku.com/5481821/fallout-2s-rejected-childkiller-icon-is-uh-whoa-).The comments for that article are better than the article itself.
At least, I think so.
The Fujiko show is quite fun. I've seen the first four so far...muy bueno. The college club wanted to show this because it looked SOO good, but way too much fanservice that would violate school rules, and we're already being watched thanks to that April Fools joke.
Hah, His Wiki says he's doing the voice of Garterbelt... wait, Funimation picked up Panty & Stocking? ;_;
and I swear, for a voice actor Chris has only one voice... his own.
I got a lot of lulz from them saying "faaaaaak" and "beeetch" in Engrish. So I expect to lose some entertainment value on that basis alone.
^ From what I've heard so far in that preview, Chris Sabat at least appears to have comic timing. The girls don't sound so hot imo though. Panty sounds bored instead of brassy and Stocking sounds nasally instead of cutesy. It doesn't have me so excited for this release. Even less reason to get it if it turns out to have the dreaded hard subtitles like Princess Jellyfish.
If it's on blu-ray, prepare for disappointment. Pissed me off when that new FMA movie wouldn't let me watch the subs on the English track. That's bullhell...I paid for this thing, so let me watch it as I please. I don't give a fig if Japanese fans are tired of being buttfucked by their homeland publishers in having to pay a kerbillion yens per episode.
Pissed me off when that new FMA movie wouldn't let me watch the subs on the English track.
I'm watching Read or Die on Hulu. Fucking Hulu puts two to three commercials every time there's a break. Which is apparently five times during thirty minute episodes. Fucking Hulu.
I'm not watching any anime right now but in the summer of 2013 I'll certainly be watching the NEW SAILOR MOON ANIME HOLY FUCK ZOMGWTFBBQQFTWAAAAAHB=========D~~~~~~~(_!_)!!!!!!!
Oh god please yes
wth is that "thank goodness " about? Keanu would rock that shit SO HARD.
Perfect Spike IMO
Or who would you prefer, Robert Pattison? peeyoo
Keanu= Spike FTW
I'd rather Hollywood not assrape one of the best anime programs of all time, thank you very much.A bad movie doesn't take away from the quality of the source material. Did everyone stop watching Dragonball Z when that life action movie came out? Did Van Damn's Street Fighter (which I love btw...) make people stop playing Street Fighter in arcardes?
Did everyone stop watching Dragonball Z when that life action movie came out?
I never even started watching DBZ. It just looks uninteresting. Except for Abridged. That was fun, though I only watched a few of them.I didn't find it good either, but for those who liked it. I was just trying to make a point.
There is no way this could happen. That movie was god damn mother fucking dick shitting nipples good.100% agreed. These were horrible examples on my part...

This isn't Retard Wars. no one's raping your childhood.

That said, Pattinson would be about the same as Keanu for Spike, which is to say a maximum letdown. These guys have about as much range and charisma as white dried-up Ein poop, and half the intelligence.
What childhood? It's pretty hard to rape my childhood in this way when the show wasn't introduced to me until my early twenties :PWell I don't really give a shit about Cowboy Bebop, just saying you'd get less frustrated if you wouldn't let someone so unrelated to the thing you like bother you. I get angry about a lot of shit, but there's absolutely no reason to consider shit in a franchise to affect the good stuff.
But still, there's no reason to talk down to me like to a drooling fanboy with the trite "you don't lose what you love" argument (which is a stretch, as I can't say I *love* Bebop). In this case, I simply don't want Hollywood to to take a very good intellectual property and turn it into shit. Saying that I'll always have the original material neither nullifies that sentiment nor has any bearing on it one way or the other.
Besides, if I were concerned with the sanctity of Cowboy Bebop, I'd be burning in effigy those responsible for the shitfest that was the followup Bebop manga. Holy crap, was that a travesty.
Ok no. First off (this answer is more to joe though) Keanu doesn't look his age at aaaall. Must be his half asian genes.http://www.keanuisimmortal.com/
Scarlett Johansson has my blessing to be Faye if she lost 20 pounds on her belly areaScarjo has my blessing to stay the way she is as far as I'm concerned.

This explains a lot. He's like Dorian Gray but without a portrait <3

I think it starts around 60. I've seen hot as fuck japs that look in their 30s and then I learn they're in their late 50's early 60s. Like my husbando, he's almost 40 and yet he looks like in his early 30s (he's half jap). Same with asian women, they look soooo young and yet they're old as fuck
So he'll look young until he's 50 and then suddenly he'll look 90?

Anyway, I would actually like to see a Cowboy Bebop live action film. They could do worst than Keanu Reeves as Spike. They really, really could. (Like Andrew BARField.) Also, gotta agree on 'no' to Scarlett or anyone remotely Scarlett-looking for Faye.
Got my Panty and Stocking set today!
Now Amazon's frontpage is recommending me all these pervy animes. Don't they realize P&S is incomparable?

Admittedly, Panty and Stocking wasn’t exactly the cleanest show in its original Japanese, so I’m not claiming FUNimation pulled a Shin-chan by taking a relatively family friendly show and making it filthy, but even so, the dub feels like it’s trying too hard to be edgy. The constant swearing and nicknames for anything below the waist, all written and delivered without wit, gets draining in short order. And while Jami Marchi and Monica Rial are well-cast as Panty and Stocking, respectively, they also don’t feel like very creative casting choices. The only positive thing I can say about the dub is about the opening to episode 3-2, “Pulp Addiction”, where literally every sentence said by some soldiers can double for a sexual euphemism. Yes, it’s sex-obsessed, but at least it has some variety in the sense that it’s enjoyable to see how they take familiar war movie dialog and make it dirty while still playing the scene relatively straight.
The three-disc DVD set includes all 13 episodes (most made up of two shorts each) and the special episode “Panty & Stocking in Sanitarybox”, which is a series of shorts running about 1 to 2 minutes each. The animation is inferior to the TV series but the humor is just as bad. Also included is every ghost explosion from the series, with other angles not seen in the episodes. Accompanying this is a three-part, 40-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the crew filming these explosions. Forty minutes seemed pretty excessive for such a short part of each episode, although it was neat to see the details put into it. The other major feature on disc 3 is a “live commentary” featuring the Japanese cast and crew discussing the show; it runs 23 minutes. The highlight of the video conceptual artwork series of Panty and Stocking; Panty in particular went through a lot of revisions. Also included are some Japanese Panty & Stocking TV ads, an 11-minute making-of-a-live-action scene from the final episode (which required filming a woman in lingerie), 16 minutes of English dub outtakes (as well as recollections of the VA’s favorite moments in the show), textless openings/endings, and the U.S. trailer for the show. There are also other FUNi trailers on disc 2. So if there are any issues with the DVD, they’re not in the lack of special features; there are plenty here.
It was impossibly stupid-looking, so I didn't bother with it.
I won't consider buying P&SwG until they release it in HD. But since I've had no compulsion to rewatch it, I probably won't be buying it, either.
As for who I'd cast as Spike right this very moment, here's the best would-be candidate I've noticed being bandied about:AH yes, the choice of every other schoolgirl that has watched 500 days of Summer
I've never seen the guy in anything. All I know is what I've read, and that he's in Batman.
I've never seen the guy in anything. All I know is what I've readWot? and yet you say its the "best candidate"? even though you've never seen him acting and still dare to bitch about keanu's acting?

Wot? and yet you say its the "best candidate"? even though you've never seen him acting and still dare to bitch about keanu's acting? Is that you or your wet underwear talking? Seeing as that's the only reason you prefer Keanu, I'd say my rationale is better than yours. Keanu can't act his way out of a wet paper bag, and anyone who even marginally looks the part would be preferable to his deadpan ass.
OH EM GEE

Shin chan is on Fridays at 7:30pm (lol yeah i watch it) so it's during a top family timeI believe that was Sailor Moon's timeslot as well.
I'm not sure Keanu is a good actor, but from what I've heard in real life he's actually a pretty nice guy. If anything I've heard said about him is true, I'd rather support him than half of Hollywood.
More like "Cowboy Bebop! Starring Andrew Garfield as Spike! Channing Tatum as Jet! Casey Mulligan as Faye! Joey King as Ed! Michael Fassbender as Vicious! Featuring Bruce Willis as the voice of Ein! Some dark people, too, but in the background! Produced by Garry Marshall! Directed by David Yates!" Let the fuckery begin.
She also came out in Drive in which she stole a role meant for a Latina actress but it's okay because she's just soooo talentedkwelfregl! And apparently a relationship between a white guy and a Latina wasn't believeable to the director so it's double okay! :stickdance:^ she mad
Aw... why do you hate Duke? :(

I understand not knowing Joey King because she's a child actor. She played Ramona in Ramona and Beezus and a whitewashed young Talia al Ghul.Oh shit I didn't even recognize her. If I had it would have totally spoiled the movie...
And typo alert: Casey should be Carey.Well this explains the only name I didn't recognize because it was wrong! She's good in Doctor Who and has been worse in everything she's done since then. Drive's pretty good.

After thinking about it more, while he may suck in most of the stuff I've seen him in he's a fan of the show and would probably insist on it being done right. But then there's what Rama said, so I'm not worried either way.
SO I was watching this japanese show in which they invite gaijin (foreigners) and ask them questions about their countries. So the question of "what anime is a classic in your country" comes up and you have the italians mentioning Captain Tsubasa, the philippinos some mecha/robot anime, all of them were old and yes, classics. Turn for the american. He says NARUTO. I think my blood pressure went up for a bit. I hope I never see him out in the streets
:lmao: How old was this person?Middle to late twenties, at LEAST. And he was a hipster
The correct answer for an American is Sailor Moon. In fact this is the answer everyone should give.
Some girl said Sailor Moon, she was from Switzerland

Next somebody's gonna try to say Voltron's an anime classic. :nono:

Not by choice, though. Japanese still sounds like a hot mess of spastic gibberish to me.

Gravity Falls.Great show. Why are we calling it anime?
It's about a brother and sister who are sent away to live with their weird uncle, then all these bizarre occurrences start going down around them.
Truly, a great anime, and the dub is impeccable.

I only got to see the first 12 or so episodes. I had the first four dubbed VHS tapes. So whatever episodes those were. I never got to see the rest. Other than the movie which I didn't like. The movie sucked balls in so many different ways.
well-hootered daughter
Eh. If that were the only criterion, that first show I mentioned has that, too, but I don't recommend it. At least this show had a bad-ass no-emo lead who basically spent the series kicking everyone else's ass. If an anime character ever had IDE's online persona, it would be this one.
I just got through watching Bodacious Space Pirates (Moretsu Pirates) last night.
TL;DR version: Bodacious Space Pirates is a whole lot of fun. Highly recommended.
Get ready for intergalactic buccaneering unlike any you've ever seen before as the spaceways get broad-sided by cutting lasses, curvy knaves and the sexiest pirate's chest ever in Bodacious Space Pirates Collection 1!"Sexiest pirate's chest ever"? Marika is a 15 year old girl! That's funny coming from me, who's motto on anime is the trashier the better, but seriously. This is pure otaku-flavored skeev that is a disservice both to casual browsers who might be put off by such objectification and to actual pervs whose interest would lead only to disappointment.
I originally watched FMAB on Hulu.
I wonder if it was actually toned down from the source material? No idea. Given how popular the trashy stuff is these days, I don't know why they would.
After watching the first two and a half episodes, I'm not impressed. The world they're setting up is pretty convoluted at the start, with a bunch of kids fighting for no real reason. Half the chicks have blatantly huge tits wearing clothes to accentuate them, and there's the one guy inexplicably the head of the students wanting to grope his teacher and classmates to give him confidence to confess to a robot. It might come together later, but right now it's a hot mess.
Eva 3.0 just came out some days ago in nihonland and im nowhere near there to watch it, dammit! but i did read the review and it supposedly starts 15 years after the 2nd one? wtf???? ive seen all the marketing in tokyo and in not one of them they looked a year older than in 2.0 so i dont know what kind of brain fuckery are the japs going to try on us nowWell, it is Evangelion, after all. And Anno is still crazy. The reason the pilots don't look any older is because they aren't: according to 3.0, exposure to LCL made them stop aging.

The reason the pilots don't look any older is because they aren't: according to 3.0, exposure to LCL made them stop aging. If we apply this to the ending of the original Eva series Shinji and Asuka will remain alive unaging on a desolate unpopulated Earth forever.
what.the.fuck???

You mean the End of Eva movie. The series ended with everybody being shiny happy complemented people. The movies ever with the refusal of instrumentality.Yes, the movies.
Basically they were the new Adam and Eve...which probably explains Asuka's last line in the movie. But if the "logic"hold, then you're right. It'd be a living hell for them. Are you insinuating the last line means she's pregnant?
Not at all....just that she's disgusted at the whole situation. There were no other people there--at least, not yet, based on Yui's line about them returning if they wanted to--which is why I mentioned the Adam and Eve thing.youre right, thats fucking stupid
The idea about her having morning sickness has been advanced before and is based on the mistranslation of the last line ("I feel sick" instead of "disgusting"). I find that absolutely ridiculous.

I remember reading similar reviews saying the premise was a complete clusterfuck, that's why I ended up ignoring it. But when it popped on Amazon the other day, I was reminded of my initial interest.
Around the fourth or fifth ep, the show apparently went through a sea change. So I'll have to watch a bit more to find out what difference it made. Seems like they're still trying to put the whole group together at this point, so...I'll see soon enough.
I'm watching the X-Men AnimeWait is that the one that used to be shown in Fox Kids, like 15 years ago? I used to watch the shit out of that show, had a huge crush on Gambit and all. Surprisingly thats where my love for all things Xmen finished, dont know why. The only thing I did do was buy a couple of Xmen comics in Buenos Aires but thats it. Some time ago I tried to read one of the characters bios and it was like a clusterfuck of dimensions, time tunnels and editions

The XBox Live Arcade version is pretty great. Using HD and the 16x9 aspect ratio they fit the two screen into something fitting with the original size quite well.
I like playing those kind of games with an arcade stick for authenticity.
At PAX a few years back the group in the halls would often break out into a string of RAAAARGGGHHH, RAAAAGHHH echoing back and forth down halls. As soon as it would quiet down someone would start it up again. It was fantastic.
Ugh. Gardner likes that one, so I just know it's bad. Like, fundamentally.Ha. I never did quite get around to watching the last few episodes. I much prefered the live action TV series though.
The latter is odd concerning one of the main character's hobbies but so far it's still cute in its own way.
.I thought bluray players were a thing of the past?
So I've been scoping out Crackle on my new Bluray player.
You got it. Fun show, though. However it really skirts the line btw bawdy and perverted.

Actually I just have a remote control HP desktop hooked to my tv and sound installation. And on it I have a program called AnyDVD that removes the region coding for me.
Every dvd player has a code that can make it regionfree tho. There's a site somewhere on the internet that lists them all by make and brand. I've succesfully used this on previous dvd players.
I'm typing this on my phone right now, I'll look it up for you later
If you want to be honestlolno
A proof is auto correct for program. If you want to be honestlolno
But Im afraid of downloading anything illegally since they are super strict here about that kind of things. darn!
Sorry for asking this but what is a proof??
You can probably get a cracked version of AnyDVD from the PirateBay.How much? I guess ill have to buy it since I dont have the balls to torrent anything from here
That's what I started out with. But since it's actually a fantastic program, I soon switched to paid-for legal copy
Oh please girl, if there is one thing you should know about European governments it's that they are completely and utterly incompetent. Especially when it comes to anything IT related. They talk a big deal about cracking down on piracy but nothing much ever comes of it.But here they are really into it. I keep hearing from different people about how they got caught and got a letter in the mail suing them for more than 1k euros for a movie they downloaded, and this has happened to many people I know here
Wait. What? New Dragon Ball?http://www.saiyanisland.com/tag/dragon-ball-z-2013-movie/
What?
What?
I did not know until just today that Rurouni Kenshin (as in the series, not the Ovas or something) had two English dubs. Or maybe I did and filed it away somewhere unseen. Either way, I decided to watch some eps on Crackle for kicks and there it is: a completely different English dub. Kaoru sounds 12 and they call her Kory. And Saito is Satto. Ho ho. Oh.Funny thing, Ive been watching the english dub of RK for the last month (while I was in Germany, havent watched it here in London). Im up to episode 80 (of 95). Its on youtube btw (all the episodes). I dont think the dub Im watching is the one that you are cause it isnt as bad but its still bad. Like I said before all dubs suck. THey dont even care about pronouncing the japanese words/names the right way :'(
Okay, so I looked into it and it appears the one with Southern-accent Cho is the dub we got in the States, so if that's the one you're watching it's the same one we got here.So wait why would they make two official dubs? No comprende.
The second dub, the "international" dub is owned by Sony and is available on Youtube (at least US Youtube) as Samurai X. Cho has no type of discernable accent at all. He just sounds like a poorly voiced villain in an old early 90's dub or something.
So wait why would they make two official dubs? No comprende.
A rarity for a show of its size, Rurouni Kenshin has two complete dubs. The first dub produced was the "Samurai X" dub (produced by Sony for Animax and recorded at an unknown LA studio), which though technically uncut still toned down the dialogue significantly. The other dub was produced by Media Blasters and recorded by BangZoom studio in LA. The Media Blasters version is probably more well-known in North America because it aired on Toonami and is (well, was) available on DVD, but Sony's Samurai X, previously unknown in North America despite being recorded there, is becoming better known due to running on streaming sites Hulu and Crackle. This is perhaps the most literal case of dubs going directly in competition with each other on this page so far. Interestingly, Richard Cansino voices the title character in both dubs.
He's gonna Dragon Ball Z Kai-ing his own work maybe? Or perhaps the art was shittier in the beginning? I've never read the manga. Was it, Faye-Faye?Allah knows why. But hes definitely doing it at this moment. They are also thinking about doing the Enishi saga (last part of the manga that didnt get the anime treatment, and the most badass imo)
Hey, dug this up from a TV Tropes page (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DuelingDubs). Seems accurate:QuoteA rarity for a show of its size, Rurouni Kenshin has two complete dubs. intredasting
So the better one is the one done by Media Blasters right?
It is hard for me to watch dubs anymore. I've gone so much Sub only lately...mainly because there aren't dubs of the things I watch and they have to have fan made subs for them. So I've just got use to it. I use to be pro-dub, but now I even put like my Godzilla movies on subs, even though the dubs exist there.Welcome to the dark side
BTW...Evangelion 3.33 came out on the 25th, and there's a fansub (http://thoranime.nyaatorrents.org/?p=2348) available.FUCK i wish i had seen this before! i dont have time now but ill try to watch it soon, thanks for th elink <3
I'll be in my bunk.
My DSL line was FUBAR over the weekend shortly after I last posted, but I've got Eva3.33 on my HTPC now.I got it right. Give me my damn pellet NAO
A pellet to whoever isn't confused by teh acros.
I'd love to hear some interpretations on the ending.
I've seen all of those except the carrot/pepper/milk one. There's one from 2012 about anthropomorphic feudal era animals. Weird I never heard about this thing before. I should look up how long it's been going on.
So I heard the Attack on Titan guy was getting death threats, so maybe I'll try that out.
Attack on Titan death threats seem like just some random tard spouting random threats. I thought he would be getting death threats based on the content of the show for whatever reason.

It's about one of the characters being based on an old Japanese general that was around during some massacres in Korea.
Little Witch Academia 2 was already a go but thanks to Kickstarter, it gets another 15 minutes added on. This thing actually made goal the day it went up. It's now over double the goal and has 26 days left. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1311401276/little-witch-academia-2
You don't choose Evangelion. Evangelion chooses you
Indeed. Evangelion has passed you by.Yesss
Though if you're wanting to get into it, I'd still recommend the original show over the new movies. Bite sized nuggets of insanity are better then heaping helpings. But the movies are glorious.
So, did Escaflowne end up being good overall or not? I remember wanting to watch it badly, but never got around to it.
So, did Escaflowne end up being good overall or not? I remember wanting to watch it badly, but never got around to it.
Watch it. DO EET.
What'd you think of the new Last Exile (which, with no context, sounds incredibly retarded... Like a new "Final" Fantasy, but anyway) series? I heard it fell far short of the original, but I actively try to avoid heeding the drawn out overly critical reviews.
Which is his default reaction to chicks.
Watching the new last exile dub...not bad so far, but not as epic as the first.
Attack on Titan is done. For now. Hopefully with another season forthcoming. So anyone who hasn't seen it hop onto Hulu or something and chell it out.Has this ever happened? Anime shows run until they don't. I'm not familiar with much of a precedent for hiatus.
Has an anime not gone on to a second season before? Yes.Yes. Immediately following the first season.
Has a popular anime not gone ot a secnod season before? Probably yes, but I'm guessing not very often.Of course. All the time.
I'd say a second season is very likely. The anime is somewhere around volume 6 or 7, and they've got volume 12 coming this December. If they pace it right, new material for the anime should not be an issue.Okay. I've just never heard of hiatus for anime. Shows run straight through or stop forever. That's why you end up with weird situations where manga series drag on and anime series hafve to drag on to keep up rather than just wait for new content. I'm not trying to be difficult this is just so contrary to everything I've ever seen about anime.
They definitely take hiatus now. Valrave is back after a break. Magi is also back. Both of them are pretty big deals, so I guess that is a thing now.Is this a new thing then?
So Keanu Reeves just said on reddit that he would have loved to do Cowboy Bebop but it was going to be like a half billion dollars investment. So no go
Kill la Kill is good, it's going to be super popular. It's visually stunning but the story is only average to me.
But if they want to do a CB im preeeetty sure most of it has to be done with computer graphics and they would have to be GOOD and that means a lot of $$$$$
I think he's exaggerating, but I do believe that money is the ultimate reason it never took off. Specifically, it is a relatively unknown franchise that is not original to the film studio, so they weren't willing to go on it. In my view they could have redone the Cowboy Bebop animated feature for less than $100M easily. They were also probably looking at the lack of success of movies like Serenity, which is the closest thing to a Cowboy Bebop movie I can think of.
I don't think a lot of CG would be necessary outside the space and flying scenes. To be honest that doesn't really occur that often in the show, so hopefully it wouldn't have in the movie, either. I wouldn't see it costing more than Serenity, which was $39M in 2005 ($46.7M adjusted for inflation)...so it's super doable, especially with the lead and primary pusher of the flick doing what he can to get it made. I really wish they'd take the gamble on it. It's not often that you get a known quantity such as Keanu Reeves who is passionate for the material and would be able and willing to to contribute far more than an acting credit to the sum of things. Please send this to all the Hollywood execs in charge. Lets start a movement
With a script that kept it in mind you could bring in CB on a pretty low budget. You would really only need one really good space sequence. Probably an act 2 wrap up. The rest could be done on a few sets (like the BeBop it's self) and location shooting meant to stand in for places like Mars or Casinos in space. I mean in you can use a Brewery for the Engine room of the Enterprise, then why the hell not.Bu-but if its pretty low budget it would definitely show! It would look corny as hell too. You cannot do CB and have only one scene in space. Most of the best fighting scenes happen in space when they are in their spaceships and stuff
Well I mean one big action scene in space. There would a shit ton of establishing shots, but those won't eat up your budget as much as fast paced space action. I mean you could spread out the budget for a lot of shorter space sequences, but I think it would be better to have one large amazing scene that people would talk about then little ones that become common place. There would be lots of the Bebop taking off and landing and traveling through space gates, but there would be only one sequence with say the Swordfish and whatever Faye's ship is called dog fighting with bad guys. And besides once you do one time type of action you don't want to do it again in the same movie. The viewers will just see it as something they have already seen.CB should not look like Clerks 2
And by low budget I'm talking maybe 40-60 mill. That really isn't low budget, but for a movie like this it would be pretty low. I mean you can make a professional looking Hollywood movie for 5 Mil...but it's going to look like Clerks 2, and not Avengers.
Still dying to see Wind Rises. Why do they have to put Joseph Gordon Lewitt as the main guy's voice? Why is there a need to dub it to begin with? WHY
EWWWWWWW. *confirms it on Wikipedia* EWWWWWW. I actually have nothing against the guy but nooooooo. Christ, pick voices instead of from the celebrity black book for once. I swear, they do this shit and only one or two actors deliver while the rest phone that shit in.
Disney does that shit because they know NO ONE will see the movie in theaters unless they throw huge names in the credits.
"This is a movie about Japanese WW2 history and culture that no one gives a fuck about in America BUT IT HAS GORDON-LEVITT WATCH THIS SHIT".
It's the same reason you had Judd Nelson playing Hot Rod and Robert Stack playing Magnus in the '86 TF movie along with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (ironically the most prolific actor of our time). While kids go, "yay, cartoon," adults see names they are familiar with, and their interest is piqued.
Sailor Moon Crystal was decent. Don't know why there was so much, uh, SPACE at the beginning. But okay. And the faces are pretty but remind me of a blow-up doll as well. lol But I'm sure all of the Sailor Moon fans loved it. I'll be watching.Oh god I really hope the SM boom dies down by the next time I go to Japan. When something gets trendy then it is EVERYWHERE. This shit better not last till when Eva 4 comes out
It's a short film so it's not very long.
Yeah, I read about that last night. Is it wrong that I'm indifferent to it? Because I think they pretty much just make the same movie down to the character designs over and over again?Yeah I didn't care either. I did wish they had made a 2nd part to Spirited Away tho. Then again Haku looks like a mini Howl so theres that
So Ghibli is shutting down for good.
So after that I did some checking...the rest of the show is about two or three more additional "routes", ending with him pairing with his sister. Yeah, how 'bout no? I deleted it and found better stuff to spend time with.
I found a show called Knights of Sidonia which is supposed to be good...will find out next week when I start watching it. Has anyone caught it yet?
I finished watching Familiar of Zero a couple weeks ago.
I've heard good things about that one. I think Shwiggie might've recommended that one at some point. I'll look into it.
And I'm the opposite. If I think an anime is total crap, then I just drop it. I don't care if I'm on episode 1 of 2. I actually recall liking a few eps of Samurai Champloo. Maybe not liking the series overall, but some of it was watchable.
I saw most of Madoka Magica. I see the appeal of it and I admire the intent. I get why people like it. My overall enjoyment was minimal. Probably having a soft spot for magical girls helps. Which I don't got.
I picked up an older show a couple weeks that I just started watching: Yosuga no Sora,:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
So, this is some kind of thing.
Seems really deep and emotional, doesn't it?

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU - I was bored. I laughed when Hachiman called that one chick a bitch. Because "bitch" said by a Japanese person is hilarious.I kind of liked this show...enough to start picking up the second season episodes. Haven't watched them yet as I haven't had time.
I must be getting old...every high school girl comes into my work asking about this anime or that manga and I'm just "uh huh...uh huh...well I can see if I can get it." I just don't even seem to give a crap about it anymore. It's like anything made after 2002 and I just say fuck it.
Ok so I finally watched a couple of new anime (only because they were short)
Ouran Highschool Host Club (26 eps)
SO FUNNY. Haven't laughed this much while watching an anime since Ranma. Definitely one of my favourites now. 100% recommended
Kamisama Hajimemashite (2 seasons, 25 eps total, ongoing)
Many funny parts too, hot guys everywhere and a bit of romance too. Unfortunately its on-going (i started watching it before knowing this, i hateeee having to wait). Def recommend this one if you don't care about its ongoing status (also the ending songs are pretty cute)
Maid-sama (26 eps)
Watched this after Ouran thinking hey its probably funny too (and so did many reviews said so ) but wasn't that funny at all, the main guy who likes the main girl is too intense in the sense that he's practically obsessed with this girl since the beginning. Even though I didn't like it I had to watch it until the end because I have ocd. I don't recommend this one
Nichijiou (26 eps)
Someone posted this video on reddit and I thought it was hilarious so I decided to watch it. Not so funny, some things don't translate well into english so it can get confusing/ don't get the joke. I don't want to watch it anymore but again thanks to ocd I need to .
How many episodes tho??
and this is important: The anime in both Toradora and Kimi ni todoke covers everything till the end of the manga? or stops in the middle of it?Because thats exactly what happened with Ouran and of course I spent like 3 days night and day reading the whole manga. By the end my brain was pulsating
Kimi ni todoke is ongoing. Toradora's from a light novel so it was adapted to be an anime from completed material. There is a Toradora manga, but it's more like an afterthought to milk the goodwill from the show. It's not where the anime came from.dammmm sounds like another Ranma huh. I want to watch it now but if its ongoing....hmmmm...
Hajime no Ippo on the other hand will ruin your life. The first anime is 76 episodes. Then there's a sequel at 26 episodes, a movie, an OVA, and another sequel at 25 episodes. All together it adapts about half of the manga which has been ongoing since 1989. I would recommend just watching the first anime and its 76 episodes because that one's the best done one and has that good old feel of classic 90s anime, but I know your need to complete things won't allow it.

Watched GitS: Arise. Didn't even know it was a thing until I saw it on Netflix. Was decent. They did a television adaptation of this called GitS: Arise - Alternative Architecture. Basically it was the four OVAs broken up into 8 edited episodes (not aired chronologically) plus an additional two eps. I haven't watched the two new parts yet, so I don't yet know if it's worth it. I'm so behind on my viewing that I'll never catch up.
Do you really want to?
I just saw where there's a Saber Marionette anime project in the works, but it's all hush-hush so far.
Company headed by original creator Hiroshi Negishi is in charge of new project
The official website of the company Animation Innovation Content (AIC) Project revealed on Tuesday that the company has licensed the rights to the Saber Marionette work by Hiroshi Negishi and Satoru Akahori, and that a Saber "re:anime project" is launching. Negishi is listed as the company's representative director. Negishi also announced the project in his Twitter account on the same day.
The format of the project has not yet been announced.
The last project in the Saber Marionette action comedy franchise, Saber Marionette J to X, was a 26-episode television anime series released in 1998. The franchise encompasses two original video anime series, two television anime series, two manga series released between 1995 and 1999, and spinoffs in other media. The main Saber Marionette J series is set in a world with no women, only female androids that can perform limited human interaction, called Marionettes. One day, a boy named Otaru Mamiya discovers a "Saber" model Marionette called Lime, equipped with a special chip that grants her emotions.

I'm less bothered by the animation than I am by the fact that it is lifted in its entirety from the Battle of the Gods movie so far, and likely the Resurrection F movie down the road.
I recently purged my external HDD of about four years worth of accumulated anime. Stuff that I heard was supposed to be good, or looked interesting to me at a glance that I fully intended to watch at some point. It just kept growing and growing.
I suppose I should just accept the fact that most anime is going to look like crap these days due to budget and time constraints, but I can't. I remember when a big part of the appeal was how amazing it all looked. It's pretty sad to think that a lot of the stuff coming out today is objectively the worst-produced material in the history of Japanese animation.Like what? I'm curious about what shows today are the worst-produced (I'm assuming DBS and SMC make the list) and which ones from back-when are pedestal-worthy.
Or maybe I'm just old and all the shows I've placed up on a pedestal over the years aren't nearly as immaculate as memory would suggest.
Rushed in a plot sorta way. Not in a DB Super/Sailor Moon Crystal sorta way. Like they're just running through the story when they could've made a few more episodes to flesh it all out.QuoteI suppose I should just accept the fact that most anime is going to look like crap these days due to budget and time constraints, but I can't. I think transgressions in actual animation and even character design can be forgiven if the characters themselves (and by extension the story) salvage it somehow. Bring some laughs. Or bring some charm. That was probably SMC's bigger offense than the Downs faces and zoom frames. SMC is dull. It was like watching cardboard.
If anything I'm more mournful of the quality drop in Western cartoons than I am in Eastern ones.
Nuri did you know theres a complete makeup collection based on Jem coming to Sephora? it looks super nice http://www.refinery29.com/2015/09/94573/jem-and-the-holograms-sephora-manic-panic-collection
(more pics of products on IG, cant find any on google)
Fuck yeah! (https://youtu.be/dvaosZlQqrY)
Started Ushio to Tora. I've seen some people knocking the art style for being too 90's but the manga's freakin' 90's. I love the look of it myself. And the dude who voiced Takamura in Ippo is voicing Tora. That guy's hilarious. Tora also speaks to my increasing hatred of perfumes.
Apparently we should be watching One Punch Man.
I haven't seen it yet myself, but the premise is that there's this man, and he defeats his enemies with one punch.
I'm gonna check it out.
I don't think perfume/cologne is really the problem, unless of course you're allergic. It's people using way more than they could ever realistically need in one go. As in, they should be using 1/100 of what they are using.
The worst is when they're using it to mask something. Sorry, that does not work, people. Consult a physician. That store-bought odor does not hide your affliction, it mingles with it.
Another example, people who bomb the bathroom with air freshener after leaving a particularly ripe deuce. If I'm in there after you, I know exactly what you did. Synthetic flower scent does not negate the stench of shit.
[insert Vomit-Chan]
I watched the first two episodes of Wan Pan Man, and I actually like it quite a bit. It's hard for me not to be cynical, but I really hope they can keep the ball rolling.
I quit watching Gundam a long time ago. I enjoyed G Gundam though, mainly because it was corny as hell.
The dwarf had previously put a spell on the prince by stealing his precious stones and turning him into a bear.
Should I be watching Iron Fortress? Saw a screenshot of a jumping girl holding what looked like a flintlock pistol that piqued my interest.
I've seen Golion but I'll be damned if I could recall much about it. It's been a few years.

They are taking a lot from the new Voltron from this. A lot of the "Why did they change the name." type stuff was because of the original GoLion. Shiro (although as Shirogane) Galra, and Aleta...all come from GoLion.

I knew all of that. I meant more that I couldn't go into a lot of detail about it. I remember Sincline, Shirogane's brother and whatever Nanny was called died. Hagar was Honerva, I think. I stumbled across a blog that had summaries for a lot (if not all) of the Voltron eps with the Golion summary below it. I'd throw out the link but it's on my comp and I'm posting through my phone.
And miss saying, "AssClass."
I think I might try to get back into Kill la Kill in the meantime.
Amaama to Inazuma (Sweetness & Lightning) is about a high school teacher who's raising his kindergarten-aged little girl after his wife died. He sucks at cooking but discovers one of his students has a family restaurant that is failing, so they work together to figure out recipes and eat decent food. It's a cute slice-of-life story. Calling it now: the teacher and the student's mom will hit it off and they'll live happily ever after.
I know I could just google it, but is that the one where the frumpy-looking daughter of a prominent yakuza boss wears a red jumpsuit and teaches delinquents?
Anime like Gokusen:
1. GTO
2. [Completely unrelated thing]
3. [Mainstream shit like SAO or some shit like that]
4. [Some Doug-looking thing starring girls with pink and blue hair and they look 12]
5. [Sometimes fuckin' Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail, or some long-ass dragged-out past-done thing like that]
Also, do you think you ever would have watched Kare Kano if Hideaki Anno wasn't attached?
I would say Excel Saga fits that bill as well.
I have like 17 volumes of the Excel Saga manga. I was buying it as it came out and mostly not reading it, I just figured it was a sure thing considering how much I enjoyed the anime. I don't even know how much of it I eventually got through, but I do remember perpetually waiting for it to get good.
Actually, I have an entire wall of anime and manga I've barely touched, because I had been hoarding it for years and then suddenly lost interest. Such a waste.
I see Mindgame is on Netflix. You guys watch that? It was weird but good.
Is it something recent that a lot of people are excited about? I hadn't heard of it.It's currently airing, but I don't know how excited anyone is over it. I only bring it up because Beck mentioned it. A guy finds a cat who's really a vampire and they become friends, or something.
I have at least one new show to watch come October: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=18728Nabeshin, eh? I can't say I've watched anything of his since The Wallflower, which admittedly was damn funny. I may still be scarred by Puni Puni Poemi, though.
Have you watched Psycho-Pass or Steins;Gate?
I also tried Psycho Pass because I've heard so much raving about and, other than a few of the characters, I hated it for the most part. Most of all the gross treatment of women in this series. It has nothing to do with trying to tell a mature or adult story, which tends to be the excuse I see for it. I can watch a story with rape or death in it and even the exploding heads and whatnot, but the presentation here was done with a sense of indulgence that I immediately picked up on and was able to follow into other episodes. Like the rape in the first ep. And the Yuki death scene. Let's get women in their pantsu and harm them while they cry. Totally gross.
The whole concept of people trapped on an island killing each other off reminds me of Danganronpa. Are you familiar with that one?
Makoto Naegi (苗木 誠 Naegi Makoto?)
Voiced by: Megumi Ogata (Japanese); Bryce Papenbrook (English)
I finished Madoka. Got a little emotional at the end there. Anytime someone takes something that has become rote, and tries to do something unique with it, I respect the effort.
I was going to watch Eden of the East, but it's not on Netflix anymore! Any recommendations?
I finished watching Shiro T Poison! Overall, I'd say it was preeeeeetty gooooood. Yup.
Also, the still for that video is very unfortunate. Looks like some kind of gruesome hentai or something.
I watched the first episode of Gakuen Handsome. Jesus. I know the look is intentional, but I can only be expected to go so far for a joke. Will not watch again.
Vision of Escaflowne is a classic anime that should be required viewing. And I shall procure this HD edition. But, to be honest, I'm just fine with the old Ocean Group dub.
I watched The Boy and the Beast on Netflix the other night. I was totally on board until the final act, and then it just kind of jumped off a cliff. The entire movie was mostly pretty grounded, and then they decided to top it off with an epic battle scene that I thought felt completely out of place. Left a bad taste, and I can't really recommend it now.
Its only like 40 eps or so. Worth it imo. The ending is 10/10.
Has any of you watched that new anime movie that is destroying all the Ghibli films $$$ records in Japan? "Your Name"? I really want to watch it but first have to find a good stream
When was the last time a new anime really blew you away? Like, just knocked you on your ass with how awesome it was.I was expecting this from Eva 3.33 but unfortunately it was a different kind of blown away. More like " what the fuck just happened" during every minute of the movie.
Kemonozume (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kemonozume)
Mononoke (TV series) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mononoke_(TV_series))
Those were the last two shows to truly enthrall me. Neither have ever been officially localized, which sucks, because I would really like to own them.
So is anyone here watching the new Dragon Ball? I started right on ep 1 and then I couldn't watch anymore because of a busy schedule. But yesterday i saw some parts of the newest episode in which they all play Baseball and it was super funny (Yamcha makes an appearance, Vegeta gets a little jealous, and the ending was hilarious).
Was it on purpose that those two heads are rubbing against each other?
I don't think I could revisit Mob this soon. It's been a long time since I've watched a dub of anything.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=18461
That looks like something I might have tried watching back in the day. Maybe I'll give it a look.
Yeah, Merla and I loved that anime. Too bad it was only four eps. It should've been a series. I think she shipped herself with Leon.
I always hated that they basically turned Gohan into a second-tier character.
The place I was DLing Academia from quit around episode 6. That's ok, as I haven't watched it since the second episode. But it's a drag, since I actually like that one.
The Dragon Maid show has been consistently entertaining to me. Haven't watched anything past the first episode of Scum's Wish, as it looks too dramatic for my tastes. I started watching Seiren again, but it seems it's in the same boat. I want more fun and less angst.
I never liked the first Ghost in the Shell movie. I've seen it several times, but it's damned pretentious. And GitS2 was ten times worse in that regard...and most other regards. However, the Stand Alone Complex TV series was awesome. Wasn't so fond of the second season, but the first year was gold.
What are your standards for the anime you dl? Like you don't want hard subs or need them at a certain size?My "standards" is funny to me given that the anime I typically enjoy tends to be a tad on the ecchi side. Anyway, I prefer soft subs as they render cleanly no matter what screen I use to watch and you can have multiple sub streams. Everything I watch on does a good job rendering, which wasn't always the case. But hard subs will do if I'm desperate...for instance, the only way I could ever find Macross Plus in HD was with hard subs.
Yeah I think a lot of my good will towards GITS comes from that show.Yeah, that show was boss. I have the DVDs of the series, but I was really glad to find HD versions online awhile back.

I have to admit, Masamune-kun no Revenge has been a hoot so far.

How do you know an anime is encoded in 10-bit color? It'll usually be written in the file name. The reasons why it's not done for everything is because A) it takes longer to encode the video (so don't expect a group like Horrible Subs to use it since they're speed-subbers), B) not everyone's hardware can handle it (slowly becoming less of a problem now), and C) not everyone's software supports it (again, it's becoming less of a problem).
Is that show a bit ecchi or you like it for other reasons? I was initially interested in that one when I first heard of it but then I hear the revenge aspect is dropped pretty quickly. That kinda reminded me a bit of a gender-flipped Watashi ga Motete Dōsunda (Kiss Him Not Me) where it was described as "a fat, lazy, pervy fujoshi in a hot body being pursued by hot young men who she actually ships with one another" which was fucking hilarious when they did it. But the show itself only gives you a tiny bit of that before it decides to become a regular romcom. If they had only played the selling aspect for all that it was worth, that show would've been AOTS. For me, anyway. It's not ecchi. Makabe basically hates Adagaki because she treated him like shit when he was a little fat kid, so he transforms himself specifically so he can get with her and break her heart. Except she defies him all the way, with only occasionally showing cracks in her shell, which keeps him going. And it's funny to watch her continually shoot him down, which he completely deserves. But he gets enough progress to keep him on the revenge path, particularly since he gets help from an unexpected source (her maid, Koiwai). Towards the end they all start getting more buddy buddy, but it certainly never turns into anything romantic, which is probably why I find it so funny. I can just imagine the sappier people watching it getting tweaked every time nothing happens between the two mains.
I really, really want the live action movie to flop on its ass. I'm sure it'll still make money one way or another: either the domestic bo will be just enough or the Chinese bo will prop this one up like they did PacRim. Looking at footage, none of it looks impressive visually as far as scenery is concerned and the actors all look bored. It looks no different from something serialized on Syfy. The only thing I haven't completely written off is the soundtrack.I honestly don't know what I think. On one hand, I'd like for it to succeed so as to get more money flowing in the anime sector...the rising tide raising all ships, basically. On the other hand, I don't expect it to be worth me bothering to go see it. I'm not a huge GitS fan to start with, it appears based primarily on Oshii's movie versions which I didn't like (wonder if there'll be a damned bassett hound somewhere in it?), and it doesn't look particularly impressive.
"They are about to"? Boy they have been going on with this tournament for a while already.
DB Super (ongoing) - after a strong start to season 5 it reeeeally drug for a while, but they're about to get the team together for a universe-saving tourney. I'm always down to watch fights where people with far higher powet levels than Master Roshi get beaten up by him using the powet of perversion.
LWA is pretty but dull. Plus it was a hot potato with sub groups for whatever reason, and after the second group I was getting it from up and quit updating I decided it wasn't worth following up on.
I stopped with Scum's Wish after the first episode, as it looked like it was going to become a miserable slog if I buckled down to watch it. I can watch stuff even if it's slow, or dry, or trashy, or ugly, etc.; but depressing stuff is OUT.
Reading what you posted, I think I'd totally watch some Rumiko Takahashi-made hentai anime. Don't expect to ever get any but it would make all of her stock characters and the recycled situations she puts them in all the more entertaining, methinks.

Ive seen Ranma hentai and Inuyasha hentai. And yes, that includes boy-Ranma doing girl-Ranma.
Never! Come on girl, she never even let Ranma kiss Akane on the manga, not even in the anime! Same went with Inuyasha but I think enough fans complained that they got a couple of kisses in here and there (one in the movie and one at the end). Rumiko aims to give her fans blue balls forever.
You hadn't seen FMAB before now?Nope! TBH what got me to watch it was the opening Ready Steady Go ( by besto bando, Larc en Ciel) Just finished watching the four extra eps for FMAB , and now Im going to watch the original FMA (I think Ready Steady is the second opening, not sure tho)
Yes, you're right. Had you not seen either FMA? Because if not, not to spoil you, but FMA goes completely off the rails since it was made way before the manga was finished. While FMAB closely follows the manga so the story feels more coherent. Merla insists FMA has the superior Kimblee tho'.Sorry I just realized that the way I explained was confusing! I did watch the "original" FMA yeaaars ago but not FMAB. Now im exciiiited about the live movie coming in December, Roy looks like a total qt <3 Scar looks hotter in FMA too btw
I have been watching Gundam Wing on and off the past couple of months. I missed most of it when it originally aired on Toonami. Not a huge anime fan, but the nostalgia has me watching it.
Dat Riza looks pretty swell. The dude playing Roy also has singing chops. He sings the OP ("History Maker") to Yuri!!! on Ice.Wow really? I didnt know. Hes hot but looks a bit older than Roy in the anime. Btw I saw some post on tumblr about Markiplier looking exactly like Maes Hughes and I hate to agree with it. CANT UNSEE IT. EVER.
I sorta see the resemblance but Hughes has a rounder face with a square jaw and a less bulbous nose so that guy's long rectangular face and giant schnoz throw me off.Annoyance levels are equally up there tho
AYAY I just found out theres an FMA expo going on in Tokyo ATM and im going to be over there in 2 days. Trying to find a way to go there by MYSELF. Dont need no newb with me.
Btw pissed the fuck off about the FMA ending. i mean what kind of bullshit was that. And the movie made it worse.
Based on promotional art and/or plot summary, here are the Fall shows I'll be checking out:
Also...
I thought it was pretty straight foward but also boring as hell. I liked the ending of FMAB because its like in the manga.
The FMA ending and movie were so confusing to me when I first watched them. Like the story just went off the rails. I thought the FMAB ending on the other hand was a bit too tidy, but at least that ending didn't go full Rowling on us.
Goku gets beaten while in Super Saiyan Blue form...while using Kaioh-ken x20...while throwing a genki dama. He then absorbs the genki dama and becomes seemingly-unconscious Ultra Instinct Goku with silver eyes...and gets beaten again.
...and with Ancient Magus's Bride, I knew that one would be slow. I'm kinda waiting for more episodes so I can do a binge because the whole having the wait for the next episode was a pain. Of course, I'm comparing it to the OVA where I had to wait months for the next one but still. I want to have a sleepy day in and binge that one.Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't feel binge-able. Up until the last two it's been very episodic, but the previous two were basically a 2-part story with ties to the lore of the world with the introduction of....well, no spoilage, since you're planning to binge.
And, shit, didn't even know there were Saiyan chicks around. Kinda did some Google-fu and they're from another universe of something? They're from Universe 6, where the fighters seen in the Champa storyline are from (Champa the fat Beerus clone, Hit the time-skipping...well, hitman, Cabba the good little
Eh, he can still write and draw in the clink. People will keep buying it. Personally, I haven't watched anything Kenshin since it was shown on Toonami years ago, and I decided I could live without it.
The anime? Its because of the filler episodes. They fucked it up.
Same. I feel kinda weird about that because I really, really loved it when first started watching it. But after the Kyoto Arc... I dunno, it was so long and involved that once it was over, the story felt over? I guess.
Did you guys hear about the creator of Kenshin being a sex pervert?
WTFFFF I DIDNT KNOW THIS
Ive waited like 15 years for the new arc to come, goodbye sweet prince

Shows I will try and fail to watch this coming season:
Junji Ito "Collection" (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=20207)
Kokkoku (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=20205)
Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=20185)
<insert Squirrel's post above>
I've probably gone on about this enough in the past, but my critique of Kakegurui is probably my chief metric as to my opinion of a show. Or movie, game, anything. That show was cruel-spirited. Kind of like the Prison School anime from a year or two ago, which hit a lot of my main anime buttons (physical humor, nutty characters, an actual plot progression, and fanservice) but it was primarily driven by meanness.
It's a good thing I saw Evangelion when I was younger and could tolerate stuff like that better, because depression anime is very much not my thing. It's why I never watched Attack on Titan and wasn't particularly fond of Fullmetal Alchemist in either form.
I don't know anything about the new Basilisk. The only reason it caught my eye is because I enjoyed the old show so many years ago.
Okay, okay, so Ancient Magus merely finished the first cour and took a small break. Second cour begins this week.Did not know this. Awesome!
I should have the Devilman show pulled down soon. I actually have a boxed set of Devil Lady, which I barely remember watching. But it's my understanding this is completely unrelated.
Shows I will try and fail to watch this coming season:Waaaaaat!?!? A Junji Ito anime??? You're blowing my mind, Joe. (btw link isnt working on my comp so can you give me stats?)

I never realized they've actually done a whole series of movies.Thank you so much!
Try watching here. (https://ww4.gogoanime.io/category/ito-junji-collection)
Darling in the Franxx is Pacific Rim! First episode was good, I'll keep watching.Yeah, this was fun. They of course neglected to give any insight into the world, which I assume comes later, but it looks like it's going to be fun at any rate. Has that old Gainax vibe (which figures based on the fact that Studio Trigger's behind it).
I binged Devilman Crybaby today. Yuck. I liked it less and less as it went on. The second to last episode was just sickening. It's practically pornographic in its depiction of violence. I'd have to be deranged to ever recommend it to anyone. Avoid!
I also watched the first episode of Violet Evergarden, which was nice and didn't leave me feeling ill.It is very pretty. It looks like a "watch the pitiful girl learn to live her new life," kind of like Ancient Magus' Bride, which I also like. Sticking with it.

The first episode didn't draw me in. I'm probably going to delete it, as everything I've read says it's basically a violence orgy. I don't care for those.
Seven Deadly Sins S2 - finding this show from decent fansubbers hasn't been easy, but it should be worth it. It's straight-up shonen fare, but very well done shonen fare.
I don't know why I thought you had seen that show already.I did, but many many years ago when I was in middle school I think? And in portuguese. Used to watch that and Street Fighter in a Brazilian channel :3
Woof! Guess I'll just remove these video files from my hard drive.
I did NOT know that the new Full Metal Panic! was airing this Spring, so that's a shoe-in. Sadly it's only 12 episodes, but I've read that if it sells well enough they'll do a follow-up season to close the book on the series as it currently stands in the light novel realm.Dude wtf I read "Full metal Panic" and my heart almost stopped....thought it was a continuation to FMA.
Something I didn't realize going in, Megalobox is a near-future/sci-fi re-imagining of Ashita no Joe, and I'm way into that. I'm usually not a sports anime guy, but the technology angle grabs me.It looks cool, so I may chell it out.

Aggretsuko is cute, but the humor mostly just makes me smile. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose.
[It] turned out to be far better than I expected. Sure, there's a bunch of ecchi harem hijinks, but it was paced really nicely, had some real characterization work (particularly the titular demon lord/neet), had a well-realized storyline, and was animated consistently. It's not going to go down as a watershed moment in anime history, but I enjoyed it over and above what I expected. It's next to Hanebado (which tapered off significantly...I hope the finale delivers) as the only two shows I watched that were worthwhile this season. And, yes, the finale delivered. Hopefully it'll deliver another season, as well. This was a fun show.
I decided it was about time I got around to watching My Hero Academia, and I managed to binge 26 episodes over 48 hours, but over the past few days I've stalled out. Does it pick up again?
I'm not exactly sure what's with this shounen trope where the main character always has to have this bitter rival that hates his guts (Vegeta, Sasuke)
I apologize if this has been mentioned/circulated here in the past, but it's worth mentioning again:
https://anichart.net/Spring-2019
I don't know how I've gone this long without knowing about this website. What a fucking resource! All upcoming anime with accompanying art and descriptions, and trailers more often than not.
I know that comes off as an advertisement, but it's really not. Someone linked to it on a blog post the other day, I clicked through out of curiosity and God damn, what a discovery. I love it!
Anyway, I finished Hunter × Hunter last night, and I don't really have as much to say about it as B E C K, but it made my eyes water in parts. I can't remember the last time I had that kind of emotional reaction to an anime. It's been a while.
Also, I binged that shit like crazy. An episode would end, and I'd be on to the next one over and over until I was too exhausted to continue.
Maybe my eyes were actually watering from overuse haha.
Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.
Hehe. I was just quoting The D's signature. I don't feel as strongly about anime now as I did then. I've just accepted that most of it is going to be crap, and even if it isn't complete crap, it will probably still look like crap because of the meat grinder nature of the industry.
And honestly, anime has probably been that way since before I ever got into it. The difference is back in the day, everything we had access to had already been curated for us, and these days we have immediate access to pretty much all of it as it's released.

Happy to find out that One Punch Man has a second season.
Aw, how far did you get?
But it got kinda silly when there was a guy in a cockpit of a robot, that was in the cockpit of a robot, that was then in the cockpit of another robot. I mean, ok. I guess. That was kind of the point. It was a loving rib at the super robots genre and is not to ever be taken entirely seriously. You should have hung around for the ultimate showdown at the end, where everyone combined into the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which was so super-massive it was fighting the corresponding Anti-Spiral monolith by slinging whole galaxies at it while being televised for the Earth audience. It was utterly ridiculous while managing to be freaking awesome.
That was kind of the point. It was a loving rib at the super robots genre and is not to ever be taken entirely seriously. As silly as Gurren is for most of the show one of the things I loved about it is that there was actually a semi-serious part of the series. The underlying plot of the show is about Simon coming of age and becoming a man. He goes from literally running away from his problems by burrowing underground to growing a massive pair and facing everything head on. It was like Anno was saying "Sorry for making Shinji such a pussy, here's a character that starts out like Shinji but grows the fuck up."
Gainax has always had problems finishing: look at Evangelion as a prime example.Pfft. Gunbuster. Our final battle is just the storyboards for said battle.
Danganronpa is so much better as an interactive experience. Anytime they turn games into anime, I feel like everything ends up feeling watered-down.
Damn son, you totally jinxed the studio .
Violet Evergarden Gaiden - I LOVED Violet Evergarden and really hope this movie is available sooner than later.
Started watching Neon Genesis Evangelion. I know I'm so 2000 and late on this one. I had seen a few episodes back in the day but never watched it start to finish. It's ok. Nothing amazing, but not bad either. I don't want to stop watching it, but I don't trip over myself to watch the next episode either. A lot of times I'll just have it on the background while I'm writing.

Are you watching on Netflix? I've seen a few places that the dub they have is really bad. I'm curious if it really does seem that bad.
This, though:
I started Ascendence of a Bookworm. Nothing else. Unless you count rewatching Twelve Kingdoms.
Oh, and I watched a few eps of Dna2. I'm on mobile so too lazy to make the number two tiny and floating so that reads as "squared." It's okay. Merla was all "this is for teen boys." And I was like, "well, yes." Lots of fan service of the female characters. I think the show still retains that 90s charm about it. Not fantastic but not bad. I'll say it's "upper middle of the road." Probably why I watched the first few eps, the last one and then never picked it back up.

Wow, this sent me down a rabbit hole. I was like, "DNA²? That sounds familiar." Googled it, immediately recognized the female lead. "What else did this author produce?" I"s! And of course... Iria! Remember "videl" from Beast Mayhem? Like twenty God damn years ago, man...
Maaaaaaaaaaaan... CG? Why? I was so excited when I read they were animating this. All hype is now deceased.
That is, if you forget the last several episodes when they went anime-original to try to put a bow on a story that would continue another 14 manga volumes. Which in hindsight overstayed its welcome itself for my part, but the closing manga arc was awesome.
I actually wrote a review of it thirteen years ago. (http://bonr.shwiggie.com/index.php?page=14) Good Lord, that's a long time ago.
So found out that Rumiko Takahashi is not above other thirsty authors (looking at you Hideaki Anno) and decided to start milking Inuyasha again. New anime about Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's kids. I hate it already but of course I will watch it. Need to find out who daddy Sessh decided to bang (pls no Rin)
...Ascendance of a Bookworm 2. I wish this show had a bigger budget and more episodes to it. It feels like a much more complex story was simplified. But it's a nice show so I'll take what I can get. These are on my list this season as well. I don't know what it is about Ascendance that makes it so endearing, but there it is...it's endearing. I stopped watching Next Life as a Villainess for a bit to let it build up. Not sure if it'll continue to be as enjoyable as it was in the early goings, but I'm about to find out soon.
Also, binged on My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! I didn't expect to enjoy this one as I much as I do since it's yet another "I died and am in a video game world" isekai show. I love the dense, tree-climbing protag farmer-noble with shit-magic. Really an example of how giving the main character depth and flaws makes her endearing, even among a cast where all of her hot friends appear to be in love with her.
And, sorry to dash your hopes, but one of the girls looked like Sesshomaru crossed with Rin. I think Rin got Usagi Drop'ped. :raiseeyebrow:
In 2030, Japan. A virus has infected humans throughout the world. Infected people turn into different forms of monsters based on their ages, sexes and races. The virus is named ‘Gibia’ - after being rich in variety like gibia. Just then, a pair of samurai and ninja appeared in such a blighted wasteland of Japan. They both travelled from the early Edo period, fighting together with help from a doctor who tries to find cure for Gibia. Facing ceaseless attacks from Gibias, and outlaws that attack travellers for food, they start the dangerous journey with enemies all around.
Good to know. It looks flashy as hell, but I fully expected it to be the newest victim of Trigger syndrome.

To me it hits that sweet spot of being flashy, weird but still entertaining. Similar to how Panty & Stocking did imo. (I know, not Trigger.)
Had you seen Legend of Korra before watching ATLA? Since you're watching ATLA for the first time, I'm just curious. I mean, I know they say not to let sequels or whatever "ruin" the original for you. Like, "the original won't be ruined no matter what comes after it." But, man, LOK took a big fat dump on ATLA.
I think when I first posted in this thread, I didn't actually realize that a lot of people don't consider this an anime because it's not a Japanese animation. But then you could get into a quagmire about what really is animation by discussing Korean and Chinese products that are extremely similar, and then branching out to other parts of the world with shows that look like what people think anime looks like, etc, and so on. Oh well.
It felt pretty but empty, which is most of the faux anime stuff tbh.
Compared to ATLA, I can't think of anyone I actually hated or disliked in that show at all. I'm struggling to think of someone. Like, not even the villains. They made the villains sufficiently bad but ATLA applied antagonistic force without creating annoyance.

I looked this up--Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon--and it seems really interesting. My huge gripe with Takahashi was her having characters that didn't grow or change. Like Ranma 1/2 which ran for like nine years with little to nothing of significance occurring nearly the entire time. At least this sequel will acknowledge characters growing up and having lives. And it's an anime thing so it doesn't appear to be something she's gonna draw for years and years until it's stale and ground into the dirt.

Nada, the ice king still being the ice king. Did you see the episode of the twins' birth? (last week). He just went in the room, took the girls, didn't even say shit to Rin, and bounced. And you're right, Rin looked exactly like she did when she was 9.Quote from: FayeSo found out that Rumiko Takahashi is not above other thirsty authors (looking at you Hideaki Anno) and decided to start milking Inuyasha again. Quoting us earlier in this thread. Poor Sesshomaru's been dragged with this writing. Guys boinking the little girl they're raising is gross. And it doesn't help that Rin looks twelve lying down there after giving birth. Poor little girl.
This is the danger of allowing a stan to make canonize their fan fiction with a tv show. Also, this makes obscuring the mother's identity tons more ridiculous because making Rin the mom was the laziest choice they could've made. Also, hiding the mom from the viewer has no bearing on the story.
Has Sesshomaru shown any sexual feelings at all? He always seemed like the type that would just breed to produce some high quality pure demon heirs.
The story Usagi Drop pretends to be a sweet story about a thirty year old man taking care of a six year old orphaned female relative. And when you watch the show, it's like "awww, that's sweet. He's stepping up and struggling with being a dad." The anime is short so it stops before a time skip in the story. Well, in the manga, when the girl is sixteen she starts having feelings for her cousin/guardian/dad figure and he for her. They find out they're not actually related and get married and she wants his baby. It's really gross. Turns a 9/10 story into an abuse narrative with some creepy groomer.
Oh, yeah, and I should mention the girl's name is also Rin.
I finally saw Mary and the Witch's Flower. Imagine Kiki's Delivery Service except Kiki's a completely unlikable brat and liar; she's raised by the old ladies except they have no personality; the town she settles in is barely an twentieth its actual size and looks completely barren and dead; the boy she interacts with barely has any lines and is cracker-bland; and the Jiji never spoke at all but has a gf. That is this movie.
Yeah, I watched Only Yesterday and that puffy cheek thing was real off-putting. I don't think anyone in her memories does that, though. But then literally everyone in the present does. It's so weird.
What the heck is "OL Christmas cake"?
I definitely preferred the scenes from when she was a kid, but the whole family dynamic was a little yikes. I mean, probably accurate, but still hard to watch.

I have seen a lot of positivity around this ep but I just no longer understand this show. The only characters that seem flushed out to me are kage and boji. Everyone else has these mismatched motivations that flip flop every single episode. I still don’t understand the motivations reply of a single character in this show and just want to acknowledge the absurd amount of plot armor that it utilizes. Like why is everyone just dying and being revived. The stakes are so low and the characters actions don’t feel important. I wanted to love this show and did for the first 13 episodes but I just can’t anymore.
Gabisu said (in response to the above):
If you understand Neon Genesis Evangelion, you easily be able to understand a simple shounen like this, just think about each character for more than 1 minute and connect the plot points, it's easy.
from BetaMaleUltra: Ugh. I loved Kage as a character before, but now he's just a useless commentary-spitting machine and its so annoying. And I'm sorry for being a party pooper, but them celebrating after they all got healed was just really cringe. In that moment this really was a kid's show.
Ousama Ranking is wrapping up. Honestly, it's still sloppy but it is attempting to neatly put together loose ends. I don't recall the last time I've seen a show with a 5/5 first half and a 2/5 second half.
I've been collecting this show to binge and you're really making me feel like I should just dump it all in the recycle bin.
I wanted to like Dorohedoro but I just can't. It's setting and grittiness should lend itself to a gruesome, suspenseful adventure. Instead it tries to be funny every three minutes. Imagine if the movie Se7en had magic in it and tried popping jokes every few minutes. You don't have to. Watch this show.
If it was capable of actually being funny, I could still find some enjoyment in it. Except none of the jokes landed. It felt like edgy kid humor. At least if a kid wrote this I would be impressed by the world building. Instead, it all feels wasted.
Most of the characters are unlikeable for the fact they can't be consistent. It's like they're all schizophrenic. The girl is supposed be capable but she's also stupid. The croc guy is serious but goofy. There's no problem having different aspects of one's character but it's complete fucking tonal whiplash:
Look. How horrifying. Her face came off and it's hanging off his teeth.
Look. How funny. Her face came off and it's hanging off his teeth.
Look. How terrible. His friend crushed his eyeball.
Look. Ho ho ho. His friend crushed his eyeball.
Look. How gruesome. Bloody body parts were in that cheap trash bag.
Look. How funny. It was a cheap trash bag so all the bloody body parts came out.
Every other scene is this way. This show wants it both ways. But I can't find it horrifying if it's treated like a joke and I can't laugh if it's supposed to be horrifying. It neutralizes like baking soda and vinegar so I just feel, like, blah about it.
Oh, and I blasted through Bisque Doll because it's just too fucking good. How can something be so horny and yet so wholesome and life-affirming at the same time?
Yes! The hotel scene is undeniably provocative... AND it serves the story/characters without being throwaway masturbatory bullshit.
Damn, I wish I could un-know that STR just turns into pew-pew-pew. I was hoping it was going to land more on the thoughtful side of things. I'll probably keep watching.
Okay, watched Summer Ghost. I liked it.
And you're right with your critique. He was all, "Yokatta! Corpse get! ^o^"
I'll add one of my own. Why did Ryou linger? It's not as if he was bitter. Or maybe that end scene was literally supposed to be the evening of his passing.
Also, leaving the pendant on the mom's doorstep. That's fucked! Wouldn't that have just messed her up even more? I guess we're meant to fill in the blanks that the authorities were alerted and all that, but come on.
I watched episode one of Honey and Clover on Netflix and imagine my surprise that it's actually the sub and not the dub. Too bad I don't really care for it though. Those dudes being in love with that tiny child-like chick, it feels like I'm watching "The Story of Two Dougs".
I'm hazy on this one. Wasn't she just a straight-up child?
Oh, are you going to watch Fate Grand Carnival? I saw the first episode, and even though I probably didn't understand half the jokes they were making, I recognized a bunch of characters simply because of how ubiquitous Fate is on the internet.
All those flashbacks happened within the first 28 minutes?!
Or you ended up scrubbing through the rest of it after you got bored?
I'm glad to see that Devil Is A Part-Timer is getting a second season, even if it is, like, a decade after the first. A fan must have wound up in charge of that company or something, damn.
This isn't a Spike Chunsoft game.
The first episode of Uncle from Another World was pretty good. Anything that takes the piss out of isekai is fine by me.
New from the press: Haikyuu will end after the next 2 movies.
( side note: Literally 90% of the kids that are in volleyball clubs all over Japan started because of Haikyuu )
Will this show even be able to find an audience?I never watched Urusei Yatsura before the remake started, so, yes, I think it will. The way things are these days, old and hokey has an odd charm about it...nostalgia, maybe?
The whole problem is the driving force of it is the school part, and that's the least enjoyable piece of it.
I tried one a couple COURS back about a yakuza raising a little girl, and the little girl was totally out of whack. It's almost like she was depressed and neurotic all the time, and while I acknowledge that small children can experience mental health issues, it really doesn't manifest the same way as it would in a teenager or an adult like the way it was depicted here.
Also, the way her head/hair/face were drawn was like... put it like this, you could have taken her head and dropped it onto the neck of any of the women characters and it wouldn't look out of place. Like, "Oh, I have to draw a kid now, guess I'll just draw a lady face like I usually do and put it on this tiny body."
No.
Saw the first episode of Witch From Mercury S2 and while I still love this show, I'm really put off by two things.
First, fricken Sophie...
...I'd be so relieved if Suletta offed her in their duel...
How about this one?
I didn't mind the first episode, but the premise is a little questionable to say the least.
Ooh, I definitely like the Jujutsu anime better than Jigokuraku by a lot.
I finally finished Summertime Rendering. Kind of a slog. I honestly considered walking away with only a handful of episodes remaining, but I powered through. Sometimes I feel like my attention span must be eating itself.
The first episode of Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha wasn't bad. I'll probably keep watching...It was entertaining...enough so that I read the manga. I'm sticking with it for a bit to see how the pacing goes.
I watched the first episode of Kenshin. It was fine, but why remake a show if you're just going to be so pedestrian with it? I dunno, maybe some wild shit will happen down the road.
Re: My Happy Marriage, I read the LNs on which this show is based, and I'm down for the show, despite not having watched the first episode yet.
See, when I watched the first episode of Squinty Girl, I was like, "What is all this weird shit they're doing with camera angles and whatnot? The backgrounds and set dressing are all CG, cool!"
Speaking of dumps, I'm done with Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero. The relationship dynamic between the two central characters got a little too twisted for me. Also, the overarching narrative about political intrigue was completely unnecessary. This could have been one of those five minute sitcoms where they just hang around the apartment goofing off forever. Ah well.
Found another one...
I mean, if it's being done by Science Saru, it qualifies as anime, right?
I watched Jyu-Oh-Sei on Hulu. The reviews I read seem to put it down, primarily the ending, even though the consensus appear to be that it starts well and has potential. One reviewer's website in particular went on about how supposedly stupid JOS was but then went on to praise Wolf's Rain. Fucking Wolf's Rain. Granted, I liked Wolf's Rain. Didn't love it, but liked it. You'd think anyone that liked one series with a wonky ending would like another. If JOS was reminiscent of any other anime series, it's Wolf's Rain. JOS's even shorter at 11 eps, so it should get points for not wasting your time. Granted the female characters in JOS are pathetic jokes, which makes me wonder if whoever wrote the story has ever interacted with a woman before. All in all, it's not bad.
Are you an Initial D fan, or are you just watching for Ren? :-[
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun...I watched most of the first season, but I couldn't hang with it. Not that there was anything really bad about it.
...Hyakkano has been pretty good so far.A lot of people are saying the source material for that is really good, and the production values are high. It's one of my pulls. I've been pro-crazy expressions ever since watching and reading GTO. And the ridiculous premise sounds like a hoot.
I'm off work this Thursday...got an appointment with the local powet/internet company to run fiber into my house. My long-held, seeming pipe dream of gigabit innerwebs in Podunk Holler should become reality in a few short days! Hopefully I can spend the rest of the day catching up with some shows and a bit of yardwork now that the outdoor temps are finally sane.
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun...I watched most of the first season, but I couldn't hang with it. Not that there was anything really bad about it.
I watched the S-rank adventurer one with girl and her dad. It's all right. If the whole show is this girl never seeing her father, it's gonna get super old super fast. By the end of episode one, the concept already felt stale.
There's something unfathomably dull about The Witch and the Beast. Add to the fact that it clearly has a sack of lentils as its budget and you get a sloppy story with meh characters and not even a single enjoyable action scene for your trouble.
And can I just say, I really fucking hate it anytime I start a new show and the entire introduction is just a narrator info dumping the entire premise of what I'm about to watch. Like, how about some worldbuilding VIA storytelling? If I'm left to piece things together for myself, it makes for much more compelling viewing, right?
I definitely enjoyed the second episode of Solo Leveling more than the first. I'm sorry to say that I didn't read most of your post, because for stuff I'm not already familiar with, I prefer going in blind. Ignorance is bliss! And if it shits the bed somewhere down the road, I'll just drop it.
I know sloppy animation has been around forever, but when you see it these days, you almost wonder if some studios have begun to employ AI in their production. I watched Pluto on Netflix, and there were times when sequences looked "generated" if you take my meaning.
7th Time Loop was surprisingly enjoyable, with the recursive lives issue coming to a head with the girl marrying the man who would become a tyrant emperor who indirectly killed her five times and directly on the sixth. She uses what she learned the first six times to ameliorate the seventh course in the loop. All in all, I hope they continue it.
The one about the Demon Loving His Elf Bride (not where I can look at the actual title at the moment) turned out to be a pretty nice show. The action segments left a lot to be desired, but the story is really about the two main characters getting on. It's sweet if a little cornball. I had it pegged from the first ep as a skeevy show, and it most definitely did not turn out that way.
Hajime no Ippopotamus is on Netflix in my area. I've never watched it. Worth a look? I've heard good things over the years.
Glad you brought up SSI -- I didn't even realize it was out. Didn't turn up at my usual spot, so I'm guessing they're afraid of WB lawyers. Here you go. (https://nyaa.si/?f=0&c=0_0&q=ember+suicide+squad)
That does indeed look nice. It immediately reminded me of something else, though.
Or are you the one who showed me that one, too? I can't recall.
But most importantly of all, if something isn't holding my interest, it's done. I dropkicked Suicide Squad the other night, for example.
Imagine if My Dress-Up Darling became Marin and Gojo running for student council four episodes in. Fuck off, that's boring.
I'm expecting Nausicaa in Rohan which fills me with unmitigated glee.
Finally saw an ep and a half of Sakamoto Days. Kind of boring.
See, having never engaged with the TV series, I thought the movie was alright. At least, I remember enjoying it for the most part. It looked really nice, didn't it? Maybe I don't actually recall any of it and I'm just giving it the benefit of the doubt.
Anyway, I'll watch the show.
First episode of Esca is off to a good start. They really designed the hell out of that dragon for maximum revulsion. Blech.
I'm also watching Zenshuu, but I've avoided talking about it because I can't decide whether I love it or hate it.
Take the most recent episode, for example. The "villain" has lived so long and seen so much death and destruction that she just wants an end to it all, and the MC "cures" her simply by turning her into a bishi simp. "Oh I have a new zest for life so long as I have these pictures of beautiful men to look at!" It's almost a meta commentary on certain types of anime fans. Yuck.
Also, the Apothecary Diaries came to American Netflix. I'm only kinda mad because I've been trying to get Merla to watch it with me. I finally got her to say yes this past Saturday and then my mp4s wouldn't work at all on my BluRay player. They work just fine on my bedroom TV but whatever TV and BluRay player we have in my living room hates the files. I spent hours trouble-shooting and then needing to remove an audio codec--might be the wrong word/term, I don't fucking know :D--from each and every file I have of the dub with Handbrake just so it'll play. Got them all sorted out and trouble-shooted and everything so she could watch it with me this upcoming weekend. Just needed to load them on a USB stick and pop it in my BluRay player. So I did all of that shit over last weekend and then American Netflix added it April 1st. Fuck you. I took that personally. :laugh:With the anime I watch all being downloaded I throw them on a Plex server. If you have an older computer lying around you don't use that was made in the last 5-6 years it's super quick and easy to install Plex Media Server on it and install Plex clients on your TV/streambox/phone/tablet/fridge to watch them. If you use a decent enough processor it will handle all the A/V recoding for you.
I decided to dip my toes into the Apothecary Diaries LNs. I was gonna do it legit but, holy fuck, $19 USD for a physical copy of volume one? Are you people out of your fuckin' minds? It's not even a "novel" novel, it's a light novel. Meanwhile, one of the author's other titles being published in English by another company is $13 USD. But $19? Absolute insanity. And I'm not buying shit on Kindle, Amazon. Not when you can go in and do whatever the fuck you want with the files I "buy".
I watched the white pig nobleman fat rich child isekai reincarnation anime. I don't recall the name and don't care enough to look it up. But it's decent. It's not exciting or particularly pretty to look at. I guess you're supposed to find the children cute or something. They're okay. The show's okay. I couldn't sleep Saturday night and watching four episodes in a row was enough for me to relax. It's basically slice of life but there's enough of a plot to just manage to feel invested. I give it a B-.
It looks nice, and the characters are likeable enough, but man talk about taking "slice of life" to its extreme conclusion. It's literally just two friends shooting the shit for twenty odd minutes.
Well. Panty & Stocking delivered the goods. Hallelujah.
Well. Panty & Stocking delivered the goods. Hallelujah.
Ew, it's on Prime?! Bleh. Also, dubbites malding because everyone in the English version was recast.
Have you read the Dress-up manga? The story doesn't really ever find its footing again. It becomes more and more of a cosplay tutorial, the horniness pretty much evaporates, and the lovey-dovey moments between Marin and Gojo are few and far between. Any and all potential conflict is immediately resolved and forgotten, and plot threads are introduced and never properly developed. And then it just kind of ends.
I guess they could deviate heavily in the adaptation, but I feel like they won't.
That being said, it's the one show this season that I watch as soon as it's available.
Yeah, the Dress up Darling manga fell off a cliff...expect the show to do the same. I do like the Betrothed show despite me reading the webcomic or whatever it's based on and coming to the conclusion that Marie simply doesn't want to let herself be happy. If I wanted to inflict a textbook depiction of narcissistic abuse on myself I'd volunteer at the psyche unit at work. I do like it, and I hold out hope the adaptation addresses the shortcomings of the printed material (not likely).
BTW, Fragrant Flower is as good as advertised. You should just find it on nyaa and watch it...to blazes with teh Netflixes. Clevatess had been good, and the manga just gets better so far in my reading.I am watching Fragrant Flower Netflix-less but I'm still annoyed that Netflix has sabotaged this show's success and hype. I also read ahead in the Clevatess manga and I never thought I'd find myself still interested given the environment we're in right now in the story... but I am.
Ewwww! The Fragrant Flower English dub.... Ewwwwww! Netflix again fucking over this show. Why did you cast that voice for Kaoruko? It's like she's right out of a 4Kids dub. I had my fingers crossed for "anyone but Xanthe Huyhn" and a fucking monkey's paw granted my wish.I've been watching/reading this show for weeks. I like it. Very sweet. Fuck a Netflix.
And then only two episodes today? With episode three coming out in a week? When you're this far behind already? Go fuck yourselves, Netflix.
The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King (The Barbarian's Bride) got pushed back to 2026. Along with Sentenced to Be a Hero and Witch Hat Atelier also getting the 2026 heave-ho, my stacked fall season has significantly deflated. No season known yet for Witch Hat but the other two are pushed back to the Winter.Hate that about Barbarian's Bride, but I had to halt reading the manga given that it's ongoing. Plus, it did that thing a lot of them do where it gets in the middle and drags like RuPaul.
Also, a lot of disappointment with last week's Betrothed to My Sister's Ex and Silent Witch, which are currently my Friday watches. It's an ongoing bugaboo with me. If the story can't be allowed to breathe, adaptation to the animated medium should not even be attempted.
For the first, it's more so other people being disappointed than me. Unfortunately, Betrothed to My Sister's Ex doesn't have the time to tell the story it wants to tell and is speed-running everything. To be fair, it's been doing this since the beginning. But with the latest episode, the whiplash is more apparent. Part of me was hoping they'd just cut this part out because they don't have the time for it. Specifically, they should've just had Marie not run away. I can completely understand the anime-onlys' frustration. I still like this show but not having the traditional 24-26 episode order really hurts this story. Because this isn't just a Cinderella story but has the b-plot of the sister and the Shederan family's antics.
Sorry, that was non sequitur AF. I was referring to With You, Our Love Will Make It Through.
And having had some more time to process it... yeah, I'm still skeeved out.
Okay, the fact that it's just a protracted advertisement for a gacha game makes perfect sense. I won't even bother giving it a second look.
Ah! Smoking is everything! Banzai!
