Not an anime, but I am re-watching Roughnecks, the Starship Troopers animated series. The first part, Pluto Campaign, is fucking awful.

I remember there being good parts to that show. Maybe it was because it was so bad that it hardly ever actually came on that I am just remembering a few good episodes or something.

Rewatched Macross Frontier last week in anticipation of the movie release (and inevitable fansub) in October. I love that show.

Halfway done rewatching Beast Wars all the way through. I never noticed before how much better the animation got between seasons one and two.

Looking forward to starting Code Geass R2 next week. I also have the full season of Sekirei to watch, and the old but entertaining-looking Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gautaman OVA is waiting at the end, so to speak.

Dude, this is so fucking true. When I finally got around to watching some of this again, I was watching season one and going, "what the hell is wrong with this," I thought the file was messed up or not good quality or something. Then I watched an episode from the end of season 2 and I figured it out.

Some time back I downloaded Frontier and put it on DVD: one of my best moves. The movie, which is admittedly nothing but a stripped-out recap with a little new but very pretty footage, came out November '09, and the DVD release is October 7th. The time between Japanese movie releases and home video releases are insane. It really bothers me that the sequel movie comes out in February 2011...it'll be Q1 2012 before it hits DVD, at best.

Southern Cross is crap. You won't lose anything by skipping it.

Here are two spoilers, the first of which is the only thing SC contributed to the franchise (even crossing over to the Macross series), and the second of which is what you need to know before watching the Invid Saga.

HIGHLIGHT TO READ:
Here's 1: Louie invents the Pupil Pistol, which enables the mecha to achieve target lock just by the pilot focusing on the object. This is used, if not directly referenced, multiple times, IIRC, in both Macross Frontier and Robotech: Shadow Chronicles.

And here's 2: The Robotech Masters fail to prevent the Flower of Life (Protoculture) from blooming and spreading it's funky spores/pollen across the universe and leading their mortal enemies, the Invid, to Earth. And it's all thanks to Dana and the rest of her idiot team. The Invid Saga opens with the Earth already having been invaded and mostly conquered, awaiting help from Admiral Rick Hunter and the SDF-whatever.

24 episodes...it's the shortest of the three original Robotech "seasons", but it feels the longest.

Additionally, it was by far the most heavily edited of the three series that comprise Robotech.

But the listing on Netflix says the whole thing is only 85 episodes ... And it starts around episode 36. And that means there are 25 episodes left after ... does that sound right?

I decided to try Basilisk. It was okay but I have to say I came out of it totally hating on Gennosuke and Oboro. My God, I wish they had died first. Also, the pacing was great for the first 14 or so episodes but then I knew it was in trouble when they killed off so many so quickly. And then it had a clip episode, then useless backstory. (A whole episode for Gyoubu? Are you fucking kidding me?) YAWN. I would've loved it if it had been a shorter series and Gennosuke and Oboro got the humilating deaths they had coming to them. Especially Oboro. Damn, I wanted to punch her in the face. "QUIT STARING, BITCH!"
