It's retarded because there's a wealth of channels that rerun their crap into the dirt.  Yet Nick has a show that has repeatedly cracked the top ten in total viewership and can't manage to do a couple of encore viewings.  I wonder if they'll rerun it at all because their track record w/ ATLA wasn't exactly stellar either.  I was hopeful when the show started that they weren't gonna do this this time.  On the "up" side, Korra only has about four eps to go before the season's over.  If Nick is smart, they'll do a shitload of reruns between now and whenever the hell season two will start (probably Spring of next year. bah).  Of course, if they were really smart, they would have reran the entire ATLA before Korra started to snag in some new viewership, then proceed with Korra and proper encore viewings.

I'm kinda hoping for an all day marathon leading up to a prime time season finale for the show. That way I can just sit down and watch them all in a row. Or worse comes to worst, maybe rent them when they hit DVD. (which is what I had to do with the last fourth of Avengers season 1, although I bought it cause I knew I loved the show already. In that case they were doing a repeat on Disney XD, but playing a different episode then they played in the morning. Wasn't really a repeat.)

The first couple shows got plenty of reruns up till like episode 4 or 5...the one where Amon was taking benders prisoners and then taking their powers away. That was the last one that saw repeats I think. And I was about to say in my first post, but didn't since this seems to be turning into me bitching about it like I do having slow internet and I can only beat one dead horse around here, that it just seems to be the shows I want to see that don't get repeats. I can see almost any episode of "Keeping up with the Karadashins" or "House Hunters" I want if I just watch all the damn repeats (not that I want to see either.). And I can see no less then 6 different Family Guy episodes nightly, but I only get one chance at this show, and it is murder on a night owl like myself on one of the two days I can sleep in as late as I want.

Yeah, hopefully they'll do a non-Nicktoons Marathon.  It's kinda strange tho' for a cable channel to depend on online viewership to catch people up on the show as opposed to showing a rerun on their bread-and-butter channel.  I wonder what their reasoning was for pulling the reruns.

I don't think so but I don't think Rama gets Nicktoons so he couldn't see it even if they did.  I dunno.  I don't know anything about satellite/dish packages anymore.

I don't have Nicktoons. It is in the highest package. Same reason I can't watch the Hub.

No hub? How can Rama get his pony fix now?

Yes, it's the rule.  The Avatar is a single soul being continually reincarnated.  Korra IS Aang.
"Awesome, I've been reincarnated into a hot female body... I have my own boobs to play... oh wait, this is my daughter's body!! GAH!"
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

I mean, I was a little leery of all the metalbending, but I could understand how it's now a thing.  Before Toph, no one even thought about doing it.  I can accept that Toph was good enough to open peoples' eyes (heh heh, puns) to the idea and trained a bunch of new students who were open to the idea.

But dudes know how to bend lightning -- it's just that it's friggin hard and only a few of the most powerful firebenders know how to do it without killing themselves.  And Mr. Angsty just ain't that good.

Maybe it all has to do with how the rules of bending seem to be going out the window: blood-bending at any time of the month, non-bendable Mr. Mask, etc.  I'unno.

Sidenote: adult Toph was awesome as expected.  I'd hit it.

blood-bending at any time of the month

But I do that all the time.  Har har.  Noooooooo...  :joe:

Anyway, I came to the conclusion today that this series would be vastly improved if Mako and Bolin were not in it.  I challenge anyone to imagine what that would've been like.  The first ep would be the same and then in ep two, Korra sneaks off to the probending games and meets confident, street-smart rich-girl Asami--whose daddy owns one of the teams--and her pet ferret Pabu.  Korra would join Asami's team when their waterbender flakes out.  Then she and Asami would have all kinds of sexy adventures uncomplicated by dull, cardboard Mako and woefully-unfunny manchild Bolin.  Tahno could've joined them later to make them a trio.  Meanwhile, with all of that lovey-dovey nonsense out of the way, we would have more room for actual plot as well as learning more about Republic City and have Korra gain some spiritual growth.  We all win.

And poor Toza.  We saw him once and never heard from him again.  WTF.

I certainly agree that Korra/Asami would make a much more interesting group than Korra/Mako/Bolin.  However, I don't really see Tahno as a much better replacement.  Perhaps an older person to top off the trio.  One of Lin's lieutenants, perhaps.  I'd say Lin herself, but that's too much estrogen for Team Avatar.  It needs a dude.

Could be nice to get out of the city for at least an episode or two.

On another topic, I just rewatched the first season of Last Airbender and, damn, Katara sure does progress with her water-bending lightning quick.  In the first episode, we see her struggling to perform a relatively simple move.  By the end of the season, after just finding a single water-bending scroll and practicing with Aang, another novice bender, she's able to pull off some pretty advanced shit when fighting Master Pakku.  Oh, she also randomly discovered how to use bending to heal.  (That said, I really liked her fight with Pakku, especially when she "dug in" and froze her feet to the ground after flipping over him.

Re: Katara, I think it was just a matter of her already being gifted and just needing to pick up some moves.  Back home in the Southern Water Tribe, she didn't have a single other bender to even bounce ideas off of.  I could see how traveling with the avatar and getting that scroll could fuel a quick progression.

As for what I said on Korra, I was trying to see it using the characters we have now and not adding anyone we haven't already met in some capacity.  I think Lin and Tenzin have good chemistry with Korra, but Team Avatar should be around the same age imo.  I like the idea of Tahno because here was someone knocked completely off of his high horse.  It would've given us a chance to view a drastic change for him.  Zolt or Shady Shin could've worked as well if they had been younger.  A bender without bending, if that ability could be returned, and how they cope with life after bending has the potential for a story with a lot of meat on its bones.  Kind of a Zuko-like progression from one side to the other.  And he would be interacting with (potentially) the world's most powerful bender and a strong natural non-bender.  That balance of characters and such a story line would've meshed perfectly with the threat of Amon since the love square we got stuck with instead sorta pulls us away from the main plot.

I actually saw this episode today and I was loooooooooooooooost. I didn't know who half the people were. Like I don't know who this new girl is running around with Korra and gang, but I like her. I also didn't know Lin, so it was hard to care when she was debended. I was so happy to actually see a new episode, but quickly saw how bad missing those episodes were.

Yeah, you got cut off before the episodes that show Lin's BAMFness.  Plus you also don't have the attachment to her mother Toph from the previous series.  I could see how only viewing the first three or so episodes of Korra wouldn't leave much of an impression of Lin.  In those, she only appeared in the first one.  I think Lin and Asami Sato (aka "new girl") are my favorites in this show.  Poor Lin...   :'(

Saw the finale.  Thoughts:  All in all, not a terrible series.  Better than a lot of the stuff on TV.  But there was SERIOUS room for improvement.  Mako and Bolin just hindered the entire show.  Mako with his two-timing jerkness and needless romantic subplot and Bolin with his uselessness and inhilarity.  (I made that last word up just for Bolin.)  The damn polarbear dog was more useful than dumb Bolin.  I agree with this one assessment where everything just comes to Korra without much work or consequence.  Poor Amon.  Not only was his life sad, but in the end he was neutered.  Poor Tarrlok, too.

Iroh was cool.  Asami was cool.  Bumi in his 1-second appearance was cooler than Mako the whole season.  What the fuck happened to the Hiroshi that loved his daughter?  He just went nuts.  Where was old Zuko, Kya, and the female firelord?  We got nada on them.  No more Tahno or Toza or the council members?  Where was Zuko's mother and who was Bei Fong's father?  How was Tenzin's family's captured after Lin's sacrifice that seemed to be for nothing?  :(  Questions, questions!

The romantic subplot was utterly useless.  It feels like the only reason it was there was to appease teenage girls who are only interested in imagining what it would be like if various combinations of people in a show bang.

I feel I would have enjoyed Bolin more if he had retained more of the suave ladies' man thing the character was originally conceived as.  Instead, he turned into Sokka-lite.

The finale was pretty good but I thought the exposition dump at the beginning of the penultimate episode was pretty jarring.  It was like the writer's realized, "Oh shit, we forgot to flesh out our main villain and we only have 40 minutes left to tell this story!".  I like the revelation and the partial explanation of how the bending was taken away (though we still don't know how that actually works), but, come on, let Korra and the audience figure that shit out over the course of a few episodes, at least.

And I still don't like how effortlessly Mako can shoot lightning.  The more I think about it, the more I dislike most of what we saw of lightning bending in this series.  It was, at first, a cute little touch.  Oh, ha ha, electricity in the city is from from lightning bending.  It's like how they used water bending for raising and lowering ships with lock technology and the trains in the Earth Kingdom were powered by earthbending.  I get it.  But it severely undermines the powet and specialness of lightning bending.  And more importantly, it's not even necessary! There are internal combustion engines everywhere and we can see from the Equalist technology that they have dynamos or something similar to generate en electrical current.  Slap the two together and there's your powet producing equipment.

You know, I thought when Bolin, Iroh, and Asami were behind bars, that was gonna be Bolin's metal-bending moment.  Especially considering, going back to what you said, how easily Mako shoots lightning, then Bolin should be capable of a massive powet-up.  But, no, the damn dog somehow apparated beyond the electric fence and saves the day.  Ugh.

Legend of Korra was good but I think I'd rather see the further adventures of 40 year old Aang the series.

I really don't agree at all with his base postulation, that Legend of Korra is fundementally about how cool it is having cool powers and having cool fights.  Boiling it down to that ignores the various obvious parallels that can be drawn between the situation in Republic City and the powder keg that was places like 18th century France and 19th century Russia.  The only way that could have been more overt is just calling Amon Robespierre or having one of the council members saying the non-benders can eat cake.  May as well just have the bending removal take place with a guillotine-like device.  If the first series was about the dangers of unrestrained nationalism, this one just as effectively portrays how fucked up it is if we try to force the whole world to be equal.

What about the themes of racial cleansing?  I mean, the air nomad genocide prior to Last Airbender while evil, wasn't even about trying to wipe out their culture.  It was a means to an end of combatting the Avatar.  But in Legend of Korra, it's all about wiping them out as a people.  Amon hates them and everything they stand for.  You can hear the glee in his voice when he has Tenzin and his family up on the stage and he's about to wipe out the airbenders once and for all.  With Sozin, it was buisiness.  With Amon it was pleasure, which I found much more frightening.

More than anything, Legend of Korra was a story about accepting responsibilities and learning to serve people that may not even like you.  People hated Aang, but it was either because of what he did, abandoming everyone for 100 years, or because he was seen as an enemy of their nation.  But Korra?  People hated Korra simply because of who she was, because she was born with the equivelent of a genetic abnormality.

Any failings of Legend of Korra lay with the individual characterizations, not with the base themes or lack thereof.
