Is it wrong to like the bad guy better? And I don't know if I totally believe Amon's story about why he wears the mask. I still just got this feeling he is a bender himself. There is also the comment "Only the Avatar could do that" about being able to take away someone's bending abilities permanently. Hmmm...curiouser and curiouser.

I just get the feeling he is. It seems like a sympathy ploy to me to gain support for his cause. Or he could be telling the truth, but that would be disappointing.

Especially since--and not really a spoiler here--we've already had a character in the old series who went kinda batshit cause firebenders killed his famblee. AND they did it when he was eight years old. And a firebender killed Tenzin's grandmother. "They was killed bai teh firebendaz" is actually already tired by now for the people who saw the old show.

I had a theory early on when Nick gave us some information* on Councilman Tarlokk (who will be introduced in next week's ep). He's the classic fishy-looking dude and a waterbender but I don't really want him to be Amon either. I hope some great twists are pulled here because he looks so obviously bad that it's too, well, uh, obvious.

Yep. I liked it. I was spoiled by the pacing of the first series because I feel like we're blazing on through. It would've been cooler if this could've just been about the Fire Ferrets interacting w/ the Satos because that was the best part of the ep. But on the plus side, I don't know if I'd have patience for having the Amon thing dragged out for a full ATLA-like season. So perhaps getting down to business is best.

Just had a weird thought. What if Korra has to bring balance between benders and non benders by giving up her bending. Thus, ending the line of avatars and benders. 80 or so years later new benders are being born in a world the fears and hates them.

I like the idea that she'd have to give up her bending. Considering how proud she is of being the avatar and a bender, it would be a growth of the character for her to have to choose to give something up like that for the larger good. I like that. It is different from the first Avatar too, or at least what I've heard about it.

I really hope that doesn't happen. If she gives it up and gets it back, that'd be okay. But I like the whole fantastical 4-elements action. We get an action series with a female hero and they de-empower her at the end like they did the villain in the first one? Don't want.

I'm afraid it might happen now that Toe mentions it. Mainly cause they have introduced Amon's ability to take the powers away. I'd be surprised if she didn't lose her powers at some point, and maybe the story will move to her having to get her powers back somehow. I mean we didn't get to see her mastering her fire, water, and earth bending. So maybe she symbolically have to learn to walk again.

I wouldn't mind that. If she has to relearn the elements, so be it. I don't see that happening though since (1) this was originally a 12 ep mini-series so I don't think there's room to do all of that; and (2) learning the other three elements she's already mastered was the focus of the first series and it's my understanding that the creators didn't want to repeat themselves. I think her focus will be mastering Air and gaining spirituality, the latter of which she will need if a spirit is in fact aiding Amon. What I meant by my post above was that I don't want to see her have to give up her bending forever and the line of Avatars end.

Ha ha, wow, I'm kinda conflicted. I want to like this series as much as the last one but so far that's not happening. Some of that last episode was kinda funny but in the awkward kinda way. I hope Korra doesn't end up with either brother after this. (She probably will but I can hope.)

I haven't actually watched this show yet, but from the imagery I've seen, Korra looks pretty butch. If not for those chest bumps, I'd probably assume she was a guy.

This week's episode was really good, too, although it doesn't beat last week's. Unfortunately, it'll take a break for at least Memorial Day weekend. I can't believe they aren't doing reruns. Catch people up so they can tune in! Not everybody can or wants to watch online.

1. It doesn't really need to be said, but holy crap, Bei Fong + Korra is one kick-ass team.

2. I know it's kind of derivitive of the original series, but I like the fire ferret/polar beardog (Ugh, I hate that species creation/naming convention) pair. The shot of them drinking at the same time with the former perched on the latter's nose was especially cute.

I ♥ Bei Fong. They actually managed to out-Toph Toph.

I lol'ed at the Cabbage Man but people who missed ATLA or didn't watch it all are NOT gonna get the gag there.

I really liked Mako and Bolin from the start but unfortunately Mako became more jerk-ass and Bolin acts kinda Downs sometimes. I was hoping Bolin would be the "ladies man" his description promised him to be and he's not. He tries too hard to be funny like Robin Williams, which is annoying. We need to see Mako loosen up a bit more because he's kinda tight-assed. I find myself wanting them to leave when they appear, which is funny since they're supposed to be a part of Korra's group. I'd rather see Korra's group consist of Asami and Tahno than Mako and Bolin.

OMG, yes. Too bad Rama isn't watching. I'd love to hear his theory on what's going on. Especially with those flashbacks. Or how he views a certain bending art that re-appeared this weekend that took two episodes last series to explain. Because I've been wondering what a non-ATLA watcher would make of those things.
