You guys see this shit?

Hnnnnnnnnnnnngh!

I'm pretty fucking stoked for it. I wish we had a release date to endlessly wait for.

I've been playing Wargroove. I stopped for a bit near the end because I don't really like the missions where you can't make new units (especially when your opponent can crank a new one out each turn). Ceaser is too fucking cute.

Also started Wonder Boy and the Dragon's Trap. It's an old Sega Master System game that I've never played, playing the remaster on Switch. It's actually pretty good but really difficult, particularly due to some of the sort of game design tropes that exist in old games. Specifically, things attacking you out of fucking nowhere with no indication that they're coming, particularly when an enemy is barely on screen.

Dragon's Trap is nice. The redone graphics and audio? So good.

I've got my eye on Monster Boy. Maybe when it goes on sale.

I still kinda wanna play Monster Prom but I'm watching playthroughs of the latest content and some of it is a little too cut-and-paste from Tumblr even for my tastes. More hot monsters and less woke lessons please.

The latest iteration of Super Robot Wars came out recently, and they added Cowboy Bebop to the mix for the first time ever.

This is Spike's ultimate attack and it is fucking glorious:

Cadence of Hyrule is a lot of fun. Wish i'd grabbed Crypt of the Necrodancer previously because I probably would have enjoyed that more before playing this, though I have seen it stated that COTN is still a harder a game, so maybe that's enough to still pick it up eventually.

E3 sucked again this year. I'm not looking forward to much that I didn't already know existed.

Anybody playing Fire Emblem Three Houses?  I'm not because I don't have a Switch nor the time but I'm obsessed with Let's Plays of this shit. I'm watching someone trying to solo this with just the main player character on Maddening and one of the NPCs that can't die on the stage they were on kept suiciding himself.

Christ, that sounds like a special kind of obsession. Not you, the guy playing.

Have you watched anybody play Blasphemous or River City Girls? Those were some good, relatively short games I've gone through recently.

Right now I'm on and off with Borderlands 3, and coming up on the end of The Surge 2. Surge is one of the ugliest, jankiest, most outdated "new" games I've played in recent memory, but the combat is mostly on point. The story goes on a little longer than I would have liked, though.

I watched a Let's Play of River City Girls and it was kinda disappointing. It started off cute and had potential.

I know some of the people I follow were doing Blasphemous and Borderlands 3. I'm not really interested in Borderlands 3 but I might go ahead and try watching some of Blasphemous since you said it's shortish.

Playing lots of Link's Awakening and Celeste. Also tried NeoCab, it was eh. Demo made it feel like the story would be more interesting than it ultimately was.

Annoyed that this thread reminded me that Silksong still isn't out. Spurred by my annoyance, decided to google it. There's a playable demo at PAX Australia. Figures they'd make it playable somewhere that doesn't even exist.

I watched some LPs of Indivisible.  Which is being called an RPG (don't really see how) and a Metroidvania (don't really see that either).  It's basically a platformer in which you recruit a group of folks to fight stuff along the way but you can only rotate 3 out of 4 party slots.  You can't actually customize the characters either save for a palette swap.  It's a visually beautiful game, I like the music, most of the voice acting, and it seemed to have potential.

Meh, I dunno, probably trying to have 20+ playable characters wasn't the best thing to do.  It should've gone Chrono Trigger with a small, curated cast and made some of the others they wanted to make playable as villains instead.

The story wasn't very tight.  The character's dad died and his death doesn't seem to really matter in anything.  The premise is that all of the other party characters are trapped in the main character's mind but then apparently they can just leave freely later so that make no damn sense.

Any choice you make has no real bearing on anything. It's all an illusion of choice.

The main character can be annoying. Some of the other characters can be as well. (Razmi's shtick gets old for me frankly.) There's lot of cringe OCs in the background from the backers of the game. In fact, talking to most OCs is completely fucking pointless and does nothing for your immersion.

Also there's very little in the way of strategy and it basically turns into a button masher with balancing issues by the end.

It got a sweet opening at least:

I watched my cousin play some of that. He was telling me how optional characters don't even get voiced dialog when you first meet them, and that just blew my mind. Like, they're fully voiced during battles, you couldn't have given them some spoken lines for their introductions? You know, just to add some flavor to this new person we're supposedly meant to care about? Fucking weird.

And yeah, the incongruity of the background backer OCs is WILD. Like, most of them don't even come close to fitting the aesthetic of the game's world. And some of the shit they spout is just utterly bizarre.

At least, I'm assuming they're all inserts from people who funded the game. That was the only sense I could make of it.

I was trying to finish Celeste before Luigi's Mansion 3 is out on Friday, not sure I'm going to make it. And really wanting to play Untitled Goose Game and wishing I had something to play The Outer Worlds on.

I've watched some LPs of Untitled Goose Game around when the game first came out. Cute but I don't see myself figuring out how to do half of the things you need to do to chell off the lists.

I've also been watching a LP of Luigi's Mansion 3. I actually didn't have any interest in this but was curious since some of the streamers I watch were all doing this one. Because I'm watching a husband and wife duo play this and I like their banter, I think they're making the LP very interesting on their own. The game itself is not something I've been even remotely tempted to buy like Fire Emblem or Monster Prom.

Watching some Dragon Quest XI. I don't know what it is about Dragon Quest the franchise that just makes it seem so... so... fuckin' bland. I've tried to get into this franchise before because it seems like--on paper anyway--it should jive with my interests. I watched a bit of an LP on the Definitive Edition of XI for the Switch and for every part of the game where it seemed to get interesting, something boring or stupid would happen. Like it ramps up the momentum and then immediately takes the wind out of its own sails with some dull task or "dungeon." Meh. It doesn't help that I don't really care of Toriyama's designs. They frankly looked kinda ugly in this game.

I liked Dragon Quest Builder's a bit but that's basically Minecraft with a plot to explain why you're doing such insane things, and I think not as flexible as Minecraft (pretty sure there's nothing like redstone and stuff that uses it). Tried to play the DQIX demo and just... ugh.

Loving Luigi's Mansion 3. It's not incredibly challenging nor does it have more than a passing semblance to a plot but its got its charms. I've not played the first two games in the series but I can't imagine this being much different than those, except for the coop option.

You're far from alone in feeling this way. DQ is perpetually stuck in a rut of generic JRPG medieval fantasy cliches partnered with stale Toriyama character designs. I tried and tried to get into XI, and it just fucking bored me to sleep.

I remember absolutely loving DQVIII on PS2, having spent very little time with any other game in the series. Maybe that's why I don't like this one. It's the realization that they're just regurgitating the same game over and over until the end of time.

I remember getting the first DQ/DW game in the eighties for free with a Nintendo Power sub. Talk about a slog...I never made much headway into it until the days of emulation allowed me to GameGenie a code that made every attack a critical hit and made grinding a lot easier.

Been going heavy on Pokemon. Finished off my years old X and Moon runs, then went back to Black. I'm so tempted to buy a Switch for the new one, but I can't help feeling Nintendo must be working on new hardware. Like, the moment I buy a Switch they'll announce the Super Switch or some such shit.

I just never got the appeal of playing Pokemon. A lot of folks I watch are doing shitload of Pokemon playthroughs and I have a thirty second attention span for all of it collectively.

I totally understand. Despite casually enjoying the anime during the Pokemon craze of the late '90s/early '00s, I never had any interest in actually playing the game itself. Then when X & Y came out and finally everything was fully 3D, I decided to give it a shot. That was like 6 or 7 years ago. And I only just returned and finished it recently. Since then I've been Pokemon obsessed. I can't explain it.

Tempted to try Wildermyth and Baba is You but I think I'll stick to watching Let's Plays instead like I'm doing with everything else. It doesn't help that I had to reset to factory settings and never reinstalled the games I had. Then I ended up buying a new computer and still haven't done it.

Still Pokemon. Into the breeding now, and it is a dark, convoluted path. Pokemon is truly and utterly bizarre.

Went back and finished 100%-ing Lego DC Super-Villains. Kind of bummed the next one is Skywalker Saga, but it could be alright.

Also been watching some AGDQ:

I was enjoying LM3 yet never got around to finishing it. I should pick that back up. I also started and haven't finished Thronebreaker (The Witcher's Gwent's Single-Player game) and only finished the first area. I should get back to that as well.

Most recently playing The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance: Tactics and honestly it's really quite bad. There's nothing about that's particularly interesting, except maybe some of the Jobs system, but I'm pretty sure everything they've done that's interesting has probably already been done in games I haven't already played. I was excited about this game because it's the first Dark Crystal video game ever, AFAIK. When I saw bad reviews, I was worried. When I saw it was $20 I was again worried. Glad that they didn't charge typical full price for this game because it's probably not even worth the $20. I bought it anyway because it's Dark Crystal but if any of you are interested in this game, see if it ever drops under $5 sometime, because it's definitely not worth $20.

I tried the 3DS Animal Crossing back when it came out. I didn't hate it or anything, but I fell off relatively quickly. Might have played it for a week or so, tops.

I dropped Pokemon cold turkey. Completed the Pokedex in Moon, then moved on to Omega Ruby. Once I reached the end of the story in that one I was done. It will be a long, long time before I ever touch another Pokemon game.

Finally got around to playing Life is Strange: Before the Storm, and God damn if it wasn't just as emotionally manipulative as the first one. It also served as a reminder that I will never be young again. For better and for worse.

I mean, AC looks cute but it seems so tedious at the same time. Shake a tree, get some fruit. Craft something and pick some weeds. It reminds me Sims Social but I found that game fun. You certainly couldn't terraform on that game though. Not from what I recall.

Animal Crossing is kind of tedious and I guess that's part of why people like it? This is the first one I've really played. I don't think I would have liked some of the previous ones, though. It's like a narrowly defined Minecraft now? Or something? I like it and I can't even really define why. I just go pick up my shells and catch bugs and fish like a good villager does.

I got an xbox one x, so doing stuff on GamePass since I got a month with it. Saw a deal to get 6 months for 3 months cost, so I'll have it for a while at least. I'm apparently not as good at Halo as I was once. That's fine, though. Playing through Prey now, which is pretty interesting. I completely missed picking up the gloo gun at the beginning of the game, went through the lobby and most of the hardware lab before I was like, "Isn't that gloo gun thing supposed to be a key component of this game? I'm surprised I don't have it yet." Looked it up, and sure enough, I literally just walked past it. Good game, though.

I downloaded like six demos on Switch and haven't played any of them, including the Trials of Mana remake which I was pretty excited about. But that excitement is just sort of gone now and I don't know why.

I thought about getting the Final Fantasy 7 game that's coming out as I never played more than thirty minutes of the original (I have a visceral aversion to 32-bit 3D graphics), but then I found out it is a part one of X parts. So I said screw it. I don't have time for it, anyway.

Some Persona game came out that some of the gamers I follow started playing. Doesn't really interest me. Nor does the FF remake. FF7 always felt like the franchise going downhill imo. I know it's a revered game and all but fuck it.
