The last movie I saw was...
« on: Jul 25, 2009, 02:06:03 AM »
...and then fill in the blank.  Update as you see something else, like the listening thread.

I saw Coraline today.  It was cute.  I really liked the cat.  I had heard a lot about it from people constantly praising it, so I think it may have been negatively impacted by the hype.  And the poster kept reminding me of Escaflowne of all things...

I saw a movie called Terror and Red Wolf Inn. It was a horrible B-Movie about Cannibals owning a B&B and killing their guest and serving it to the other guest. Had a real sureal scene where a guy fishes a Shark out of the ocean then beats it against a log yelling "Shark" over and over again, then gets down an punches it and after all this he turns to the girl that was on the beach with him and say "I love you" and walks off. I was rolling at this point.

And I'm actually watching "The Two Towers" as I post this as I usually watch movies instead of listen to Music while on the net.

Pineapple Express. I love the final scene.
I said its hot outside let me go swimming in your eyes;
We been running for awhile. Why don't you lay dow, I'll make you smile.
I could never ask for nothing better than this;
It's just tequila and the beach, it's quite salty when we kiss.

Rama, you reminded me of Gilligan's Island where Gilligan is wrestling a shark on the beach and it was just footage of Gilligan and the shark rolling around back and forth like a pr0n gif or something.

I was watching "Fellowship of the Ring" earlier today but stopped halfway through.  I got a Rifftrax for it, but it's two MP3s.  I decided to stop after the first MP3 finished and resume it another time.  So far, I've seen Rifftrax for Predator, X-Men, and the Matrix.  They aren't that funny honestly.  They should have more talking robots in it or something.  There's several times that were ripe for jokes and there's silence on the Rifftrax.  People are supposed to pay for this?  The Matrix one was the most decent one so far, but LOTR is looking swell, too.  Predator was probably the biggest disappointment.  It's rife for riffing and while it had some LMFAO moments, those were few and far in between.

Only reason I havn't got any Rifftrack is cause of my connection. But I also kinda like Cinematic Titanic better as the MST3K heir. It's more in line with the orginal concept, but I actually don't own any those either as I'm still trying to catch up on my MST3K DVDs, but I'm thinking about seeing CT live when they come to St. Louis in Nov.

It definitely sounds more fun.  How are you gonna charge ppl for your MP3 of riffing and then have these huge amounts of silence?  Boo.

Yeah I don't like that it's not like on it's own DVD and I don't like that it's actually not Bad Movies. I mean sometimes it is, but I heard they were doing one for Casablanca. Half the fun was that the movies where shitty to start and someone should make fun of them. If I wanted to hear someone talk over a good movie I'd just go to the movie theater and let the asshole on the cell phone behind me do it.

They did a good job pointing out the short comings of a film, like with Predator they kept complaining about how all they do is walk through the forest and there's no actual Predator to be seen in the first half of the film.  But then they don't do much to exploit it.  And all the whining about Wolverine being shirtless in X-Men just made them sound like insecure homophobes.  I didn't realize, until someone pointed it out, that Mike Nelson (I think, I guess) is right wing.  He sticks subtle cues about it in the riffs and it's annoying.  Yeah, you like that harpy Elizabeth Hasselbeck and you don't like Democrats.  I don't need to hear this while watching Predator and LOTR.

Mike Nelson right, but it was always balanced by Kevin Murphy who was very Lefty. I don't know if he does it in Riff Trak, but he was constantly making commens during his MST3K days which where at the height of Bush Sr. regin. I think Trace Bre....Trace Breulu....The guy that played Dr. Forrester and did Crow was as well.

I never care too much for Poltical jokes in these things. Always feels like they are pushing an agenda. I'm watching this stuff to get away from the real world, not be reminded of it. Luckly it was few and far between during the MST3K run.

And yeah I know there are huge flaws in those movies that could be pointed out and I think they'd be funny. I'd be curious to see how they handled the Prequel SW movies since they killed my intreist in SW. I just like the REALLY bad ones when they do those.

Coraline rocked, but I wanted there to be more to it. Maybe I'll read the book.

I didn't have a Rifftrax for the Two Towers, but I had to watch it after seeing the first one.  The Frodo/Sam parts are the most painful part of that movie, especially the ones before Faramir.  Their whineyness, Elijah Wood's "sick puppy" stare, Sam's constant yammering, the very strange obsessive homoerotic undertones, and disgusting little Gollum lumbering around like a crazy grandmother on crack.  A conversation about food, was it really necessary?  It's all too much for me.  Thank God the chapter skips appear to be seamless in that regard.

And to think that's the short version and there is a longer one out there.

I just got done with Moonraker. As all should know (as I have ranted about it several times here) Moonraker is my least favorite of all Bond Movies, but I bought it get one step closer to completing my Bond films. This is where an OCD is a bad thing. But I only paid five bucks for it at K-Mart so it's not that bad.

The relationship between sam and frodo isn't gay.  I think anyone who thinks it's gay is either a chick or uncomfortable with their sexuality.

This is from the perspective of having read the books more times than I can remember so if Elijah is giving off some fag vibe on film I don't see it because I understand where they're coming from.

It's ok to love your same sex friends in a non homoerotic way.  There are people I'd risk or forfeit my life to save on this planet and not all of them are chicks.

I prefer Rifftrax to CT if only because there seems to be more interaction between the people.  There's a back and forth, a chuckling at other peoples' jokes, all kinds of little things that make ist seem more like a bunch of guys in the same room, making fun of something.

I know the books and can sympathize with the sentiment that it wasn't gay.  But in the book, Frodo was much older than Samwise and didn't give him the doe-eyed glance and groan, "oh, Sam!" with regularity.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I trust what you guys say about the books but the movie version is the only version I know and it's completely fag-o-tronic.  Not in the hot way or the "awwww, they're buddies" way or even the ambiguous but later more obvious Xena and Gabrielle sort of way, but in a "OHHHH, hey, should I leave the room?  Yeah?  No, no, I can go if you want me to I don't mind.  I really should go.  No, no, please don't do that in front of me.  I'll go.  I'll just go get Subway and leave you fellas alone.  Okay?  Yeah, okay" sort of way.  If the movie version of Frodo and Sam's relationship were any gayer, it'd be named Carson Kressley.

Nothing wrong with loving your buddy.  Bill Duke and Jesse Ventura in Predator.  Bruce Willis and Reginald VelJohnson in Die Hard.  Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany in Master and Commander.  Riggs and Murtaugh.  I'm not doggin' any dude relationships here.  But Frodo and Sam were undeniably very... peculiar.  Granted, I'm not even one of those slashphiles that goes around pairing everyone but there was undeniable tension between Legolas/Gimli and Boromir/Aragorn.  Merry and Pippin had a similar hobbit-to-hobbit dynamic going on and it wasn't even a bit as weird as Frodo and Sam.

But in the book, Frodo was much older than Samwise and didn't give him the doe-eyed glance and groan, "oh, Sam!" with regularity.

I didn't even realize until a couple of days ago that Frodo was supposed to be older than Sam.

Well I can back up that the books are less...well Gay. I think it has to do with the tranfer to a visual media. In the book you get more insight into it all, but in the movie you just get Sam looking deeply into Frodo's eyes constantly.

and not a movie actually, but I just saw "Tales of the Black Freighter." I remember this stuff from the comic, but in short film form I wasn't that impressed. Like the "Under the Hood" part of the DVD more and it was advertisted as a bonus on the disk even though I actually think it was the longer of the two features.

And the at the moment I'm watching the MST3k version of "The Starfighters" and movie where NOTHING happens at all. I mean it's like just watching the life of 1960s pilot in training. Imagine Top Gun, but with none of the cool stuff and tons more footage of stuff like planes refueling.

Last movies I saw were "Bee Movie" and "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium", neither one blowing as hard as I thought they would.  Bee Movie did have an annoying meandering sense of direction.  But it's also a movie about a fucking bee so I wasn't expecting anything remotely resembling greatness.

Oh, and I've been watching Masterpiece Mystery with Marple.  I sorta count those as movies.  I saw "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?"

Wait what?  Sexual tension?  No there wasn't.

Women just can't recognize the difference between gay and brotherly love.  The movies you mentioned show friends but there's not a lot "I love you man" type moments in them.  These are in LOTR because the books have them, and they're not gay (except for maybe elijah's bits not reading well on film).

Yeah I'm going to have to side with IDE on this. Other then me thinking that at any moment that Sam was going to drop his pants while Frodo got the lube. (oh who am I kidding, Frodo would be the bitch.) I didn't really see any of the rest of it being that gay. Other then Legolas looking like a chick and Gimli being just the right height for a good BJ.

And I liked Shoot' Em Up as well. Considering there was an action sequence like once every 5 mins I didn't think there would be much plot, but there was. Really surprised by this movie.
