I finally saw "Last Action Hero".  It wasn't bad.  The menu on the DVD was one of the cheapest looking-things ever though.

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

You know why LAH was so reviled, right?

It came directly after Terminator 2! One of the greatest movies of all time!

The Arnie hype machine was on overdrive, everyone was ready for Last Action Hero to be the next big thing... and it just wasn't.

Most people haven't even seen the movie, but it's universally considered to be this huge piece of shit because what everyone does remember is the disappointment surrounding it.

I don't even know if I've seen it from start to finish, to be perfectly honest. The villain had happy face eyes, or something? That's all I'm getting.

I totally adore this movie.  And it's endlessly quoteable.

"If that little turd Daniel Madigan can move through parallel worlds, I can move through parallel worlds!"

And T2 never really floated my boat.  You had bad-ass Arnold robot taking orders from a little punk kid asshole you wish the CG robot would get.  The CG robot was good, but short and big-eared Robert Patrick just...eh.  Didn't like him.  He looked constipated rather than intense.  And Linda Hamilton lost all sense of hot and looked more like someone from a women's bodybuilding competition, but at least she kicked ass and didn't take shit from her wimpy kid.

I loved T2 and I still really liked this movie.  But then again, I just saw it so I don't have the whole context for all the hate.

Merla and I were speculating on why it didn't succeed.  Not having to do with Jurassic Park or Sleepless with Seattle swallowing it up because this film should've still have done better than it did.  I'm wondering if there were any story or editing issues becomes sometimes the movie feels little sloppy.  And it seems some elements were alluded to and nothing ever came of them.

Oh and I saw Garfield 2, since Merla for some reason has a chick hard-on for these sorts of movies.  It wasn't any masterpiece by any means, but we thought it was actually better than the first one.  (Yet I remember reading it actually got worse reviews.)

I also saw Working Girl, but that's a flick I've owned for a while.  I was just bored tonight.

Joe nailed why it didn't succeed: people were expecting another T2 out of Arnold, but they got a parody of Arnold's 80's movies mixed with the Cloak and Dagger movie instead, and they didn't appreciate it.

I saw Alvin and the Chipmunks and Jason Lee's nose job was hideous.  It reminded me of Michael Jackon.  Unless it doesn't work or it's seriously deformed, just stay with the nose you've got!

I just watched Grace, it's about a mother's devotion to her newborn baby girl.
The thing is, the baby is born dead, but is brought back to life miraculously with a thirst for breast blood.
Very disturbing and and as far as i know is an accurate portrayal of the horrors of childbirth and rearing.
Screw that, I'd rather adopt a little carnivore than become anemic.

B-but that...was a positive review.
I think if you showed this movie to expectant mothers we might have more abortions and population culling is something I can stand behind.

Can we find a way to cut down on pregnancies instead? Just seems like you should nip it in the bud, ya know?

Aside from forced sterilization or education I don't see much hope for that.

Too bad we can't pay people to sterilize themselves, but a plan like that is doomed to fail in the long run.  Someone will cry foul (after having spent all the money, of course) and that will be that.

What's that about? The only Xanadu I'm familiar with is the NES game.

Olivia Newton-John, henceforth ONJ, plays a rollerskating muse that inspires some hippy artist to follow his dream.  While we were led to believe that the said hippy's dream was to become a serious and recognized artist who regains his creative capacity, it turns out his dream was actually to take advanatage of a crazy rich old man by encouraging to him open a weird, craptacular rollerdiscothèque with a three-month span of survival given it was 1980 and disco was on the way out.  Old man is played by Gene Kelly in his last role ever--to whom ONJ was also a muse for a long time ago before she left and completely fucked up his life.  Interspersed in all of this are some crappy dance and skate routines and some crappy music and some significantly better music you may recognized by replays on the oldies station.

And that second option hasn't done anything for us yet.  Just as dropping math and science scores is the antithesis of math and science education, increasing scores of a different sort are the antithesis of sex education.

Flight of the Navigator.

You know...when I was 6 the constant Pee Wee Herman impersonations weren't nearly as annoying, but by the end of the film I just wanted that ship to shut the fuck up.. I mean if you are going to do that at least shell out the dough to get Paul Rubens.

I watched Beowulf last night.  There was a lot of stuff I didn't care for in this movie, and I certainly don't remember Beowulf selling out and macking Grendel's mother.  Even if she did look like Angelina Jolie, that's still BS.
