Next you are going to tell me they made versions of stargaze and Highlander! That’s just crazy. I’d have heard of them if they’d done that.

You guys ever here of this thing called MASH? I think it must be supper obscure

I finally watched The Bad Guys because it's on Netflix, I had the day free, and I wanted something playing on TV while I made a meatloaf. I enjoyed a lot about this movie. I liked the art style in the backgrounds, props, and the characters. Usually computer animation that doesn't look 2D annoys me. Like Disney shit. I hate the way Disney shit looks. Some of the vehicles looked really nice. Wolf's car had no business being that sexy. The action was very well done. The music fit the story, the voice acting was excellent, and the comedy was decent.

And now... uh, the stuff I didn't vibe with:

This story was kinda bad. Mr. Wolf was a strong character and I liked his internal conflict with being good vs being bad. But his crew with the exception of the snake were pretty weak in this story. I almost feel like it could've been a far stronger story without the other three characters eating screen time. At one point, they're surprised the snake can be nice every once in a while. But you guys are friends. That makes no fucking sense that you've, like, BFFs but also NOT nice to one another.

And then there's Foxy Sue. I like her but Foxington makes all of the Bad Guys look fucking lame. She's trying to make a difference in a government office, she's a kickass thief with tons of cool gadgets, and she's friendly and full of playful sass. But, er, hey, the Bad Guys have a farting piranha and a shark with really big teeth. Oh, oh, and they have a hacking spider. No, wait, fuck you, Bad Guys, Foxington is also a hacker. She literally does everything they do but better.  The movie made her so cool the Bad Guys become obsolete in their own movie. This becomes all the more apparent when the ending needs to asspull a veritable mille-feuille of contrivance upon contrivance; the movie couldn't have Foxington's plan work out but her plan was so good that going against it would've ruined the happy ending. So now a Rube Goldberg style set of circumstances make it allllll work out in the end.

Also, the villain was just stupid. Can we stop with the tweeeeest villains? I like a good twist as much as anyone but that's just it: a GOOD twist. If you can't make a good twist then stick a Scar or a Frollo or someone in your movie that's obviously bad so we can root for the hero properly.

My meatloaf was delicious. I use a seasoning packet so it's hard to fuck it up.

I saw a bullet train with Brad Pitt and a bunch of other people and it was actually the best movie I’ve seen in a couple years. It is exactly what I wanted it to be. Just a fun, funny action filled movie.

Any Avatards in the house? I think I might go. I regret not seeing the first one in the theater, even though it really isn't a great movie in the grand scheme of things. I dunno. Maybe.

Hmm. Sorry to disappoint, but I don't really have any "hot takes" on this movie. It was alright? It's a three hour movie that doesn't feel like three hours, I guess that's a good thing?

The CG was inoffensive. What I mean by that is, I can't think of a single scene or moment where I was like, "Oh, this looks really bad." If anything, I just kind of stopped thinking of it as CG after a while. That's probably the best kind of CG, I suppose.

Good action. A couple well-earned tearjerker moments. Some subtle humor, none of this MCU beat-you-over-the-head-with-our-comedy nonsense.

I feel bad. I thought I'd really be able to go to town on it, but it's just not that awful. I saw one criticism saying that most of the film's momentum is generated by the stupid kid characters getting into trouble and then the adults having to go rescue them, and yeah, that's fair. That does happen a lot.

Please accept the following as my humble apology:

I watched Disney's Strange World last night. Fucking shite. But I'm a cishet white male, so that's probably just my inherent bigotry showing, right?

WRONG. I wanted it to be even GAYER than it was. The movie starts with the son and mom and dad in the kitchen for breakfast, and the parents are doing these little cutesy smooches, and the boy is all, "Ew! Nobody wants to see this, you guys!"

Then shortly after his friends show up to the farm in an old pickup, and the son very clearly has a crush on one of the dudes, and the affection is very clearly mutual. And I was like, "Oh shit, they're setting up for a big old boy kiss at the end of this movie!"

What do you think actually happened? They smooshed their gay little cheekies together for a selfie, accompanied by some good old fashioned sidehug for good measure. No kiss! Not even a real embrace!

FUCKING COWARDS.

"Oh, we're all about representation." No, you're about the illusion of representation, and it's sickening! Nothing but your garden variety capitalist pandering. Yuck.

But all that is beside the point. The movie is boring as FUCK. I'm not even sure what the fucking message was meant to be. We need to try harder to live in harmony with our environment? Yeah, no shit, isn't hindsight just a hell of a thing? Just the most milquetoast fucking activism you could come across.

I could go on and on. So much "meta" commentary. Like, one scene they're playing a board game and the grandpa's all, "What's the enemy we need to smash here?" And gay son is all, "It's not that kind of game, we're just trying to work together in order to succeed." And grandpa's like, "No villain?! That's just bad storytelling!"

Fucking hitting you over the head with a hammer that there's no traditional bad guy in the movie and that you're an idiot for wanting one! God damn, Strange World! The absolute BALLS.

I would say fuck this film, but the moviegoing masses already have. Ahaha GOOD.

I had no idea what movie you were talking about most of your post. I was all "what's this gotta do with Dr. Strange?" The egg in my brain hatched 3/4 into the post. Shipley or someone made a post on social media somewhere about this flick being poorly advertised. All I ever saw about this movie was Disney CG (that I'm biased and hate the look of) and Disney wanting a pat on the back for being non-white and gay. But who gives a shit about a gay Disney character? Remember that brouhaha with Le Fou? Just make a fairytale where a girl saves a princess and they get married. The most palatable gay story the mouse could ever shit out for their audience: a poor man's kiddified Utena.

Just to be clear, I'm not really that bent out of shape about it, I just felt like I owed you an unhinged film critique.

Strange World is crap, though.

YMS talked about Avatar, maybe you've already seen it:

I remember nothing about Free Willy other than the whale jumping over the boy. Perhaps that's as it should be.

Oh, yeah, and the time Willy had a loud orgasm in public.

Watched The Menu. Wonderful film. Made me feel sick. Just lovely.

No, really. It's quite good. Ralph Fiennes comes close to doing the Voldemort laugh a couple times.

Anya Taylor-Joy is so skinny. I hope she ate that whole cheeseburger for real. Fries, too.

I shouldn't have typed that. She's a beautiful person, and very talented. She was great in this, too.

Quantumania is kind of fucking bad, y'all. Like, I don't even know what the idea was behind this one. Oof. Big fucking oof.

Even worse than Love & Thunder, I think. That one at least had some highs to contrast its many lows.  This new Ant-Man is all lows, all the time.

I'm honestly wondering if its box office will end up being less than Black Adam's, which would be a special kind of dire.

I think Guardians 3 still has the potential to be good, owing entirely to James Gunn's involvement, IMHO.

But after that? Really starting to feel like the MCU is running on fumes.

And I seem to remember reading not long ago that dude what runs Disney was talking about cutting back on Marvel spending, so...

Man, I can't find it now, but there was a pull quote from one critic along the lines of, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an awful film, but awful in a way that Marvel movies rarely are."

And I was like, "DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!"

Bill Murray was in it, but I couldn't tell you why. He's a fucking nothing character who has about 5 minutes of screen time, and then is implied to have died? I think? Just worthless.

Gotta give props to Ol' Billy pulling in those paychecks. He's just phonin' in these days, right? Sit there and be a cranky geezer so people can point at the screen and say they saw Bill Murray.

I'm fucking shocked. It's better than the first one. It's WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Black Adam.

Bummer that it flopped so hard. Definitely deserved more attention than that third Ant-Man movie bleugh...

I wonder if the Blue Beetle film will suffer the same fate?

The Mario movie was fucking whatever. I don't even know what to say. Calling it a "movie" seems far more generous than it even deserves.

The D&D movie, on the other hand, was fucking amazing! Like, holy shit. When I saw its RT score, I was like are these critics for real? As it turns out, yes. Yes, they are. I know, it beggars belief.

And it's yet another new movie that seems to have failed to find an audience, and can probably be considered a box office bomb. Which is a tragedy, but trust that it is in fact a really damn good flick.

A lot of people have accused it of aping the Marvel cinematic style, and yeah, it's totally doing that. Thing is, in my estimation, it's easily the best "Marvel" movie since... Endgame? It takes the formula and makes it feel fresh again.

Okay, enough gushing.

So good, though.
