I also watched Ant-Man and the Wasp with the wife.

This week we decided to watch Them! She hasn't seen it (and we haven't finished it yet) but I forgot how much I love this cheezy shit.

Why don 't you watch ME next time bb  ;)

Watched "The Meg". Ok first of all thats the stupidest name ever for a shark movie. Second of all, Ruby fucking Rose as a scientist? or as anything? The only reason she was passable in John Wick is because she was mute, thats it. Who gives this woman jobs? The movie was ok but they used every single shark movie trope.

True true.

Watched "Down a Dark Hall" and it was such a terrible movie. Not even scary. Fuck I should have known better when I saw that girl who played young Carrie Bradshaw as the lead.

The Predator.

What a letdown. Fucking hokey action/comedy flick. Predator is supposed to be horror, for fuck's sake.

Honestly, they should just give up. In the original movie, you're learning about the villain along with the hero, and by the end all is revealed and the Predator is defeated. That's it.

And the tease at the end of this new one would make it so that the Predators are even less of a threat in any potential followup, so it's like, what's even the point?

Bad.

It's so fucking dumb, and it doesn't make any sense. There are two Predators in this movie, one is pursuing the other, and we don't really find out why until the end. It turns out the "traitor" Predator was bringing technology to aid the human race (WHY?!), and I shit you not they literally refer to it as the "Predator Killer", as if they're reading off a label. It's a gauntlet that can latch onto anyone's wrist,  transforming them into this Cyber-Predator thing covered in guns and blades, not unlike current MCU Iron Man. The suit, I mean, not the weapons.

Which is just overkill because it's been demonstrated time and again that humans are already capable of besting Predators.

EW. No. We're the prey. The fun is seeing how the outgunned prey bests the predator. Why didn't they just use another alien instead of a "traitor" Predator? The "good" alien dies and then we steal its technology to fight Predators.

I think I forgot to mention watching The Ladies Man (1961). It was at least partially amusing. I don't think Jerry Lewis's humor is as timeless as some people say.

I went to see Transformers the Movie on Thursday night with some friends, one of whom had never watched it. A good time was had by all. I haven't seen it in a theater since August 1986, so I was really looking forward to it. Yet I was taken aback at how terrible the picture and sound was. They must have not been using the new HD elements on this presentation. A real shame, because it really detracts from an event you drove an hour-and-a-have to see when it looks and sounds far better in your living room.

Just drove back from a triple feature, and boy are my eyes tired.

Venom. Not terrible, which absolutely boggles the mind. Also, this plays over the credits:

Fucking surreal, man.

Hell Fest. Didn't know anything about this going in, expected a sleazy, revolting gore show. What I got was a mostly inoffensive slasher-lite teen "horror" flick. And honestly, if you were to tell me Hell Fest was an actual theme park and this movie is one long advertisement for it, I wouldn't be surprised. It just felt like that from start to finish.

Bad Times at the El Royale. Seems like they've been promoting the shit out of this, and I figured they had definitely given away the entire plot already, but amazingly that wasn't the case. I guess you could say it's a bit of a Tarantino knock-off, but it's solid.

I agree with joe, Predator was a fuckfest. Why do they keep doing these movies??? Whyyy
Saw Goosebumps 2 with the kids. It was ok. Some funny parts (mostly the ones that included the asian old man who was a fan of the books in the movie)
" Mara" was total and absolute SHITE. I almost walked out because I was so bored. Only cool thing is that I discovered my ex bff's little sister is a Hollywood actress now. (although her part was very short in the movie). Im one step closer to my husbando Keanu <3

Wife really wants to watch El Royale so we might give that a go soon, somewhere among our holiday nonsense (we co-host a thanksgiving thing and then a Christmas thing for friends, plus go to multiple family things, and honestly it's pretty exhausting, plus we go to a week-long board game convention the week before thanksgiving). We also want to see the Freddie Mercury movie but I was hoping to hear from some buddies that have seen it first. I like Rami Malek well enough so that's a positive. I guess that's movies I want to see not ones I have seen, though.

Not really a movie but I just found out on Halloween this year about the David S Pumpkins animated special that SNL made last year. It was not exactly good but was good enough for what I wanted that day.

We also watched Halloween, it was the wife's first time seeing it. She's not big on horror movies. I forgot how much I love some John Carpenter's shots. He was good at doing some creepy shit like Michael Myers sitting up in the background of a shot, and him being in the backgrounds of some shots where you might not see him (or the car he stole). It also has a few jump-scares, which I fucking hate. Horror movies need more creepy shit and less jump scares. Then again, it also had some cheeeesy stuff, like the gravestone above the girl on the bed and really just that entire scene when Laurie finds their bodies. I guess we can explain some of it away by saying that Michael has the mind of a 6 year old but I feel like that only gets you so far.

And how about that asshole next door that not only turned on the lights, looked at her, and didn't let her in but also didn't bother to call the cops to say there was a screaming girl outside. Halloween night, I guess. So ignoring anyone who's in distress makes plenty of sense.

Something my wife brought up, what kind of shitty parents don't take their kids trick or treating on Halloween, and then go off to a party that isn't even a costume party, on Halloween? I guess things might have been different in the 70s but it did seem weird.

But this wasn't NYC. It was Haddonfield, Illinois. While the city is fictional, the county it's in is real (Livingston County). Why should we assume people in a tiny town in Illinois would act like people in NYC?

Spider-Verse is amazing. I don't know how they achieved that stop-motion effect, but it just looks spectacular. I recommend everyone chell it out at their friendly neighborhood movie theater.

I also saw Into the Spider-Verse and it is fucking fantastic. Real good shit.

Also on the super-hero front, I've wanted to watch Aquaman but hearing about the Toto remix that's in it has really put a damper on my excitement for that one. Also never got around to Venom but I heard I'm not missing much.

I saw Aquaman, Mary Poppins, and Bumblebee back-to-back-to-back, and unbelievably they shake out thusly:

1. Bumblebee
2. Aquaman
.
.
.
.
.
3. Mary Poppins.

Bumblebee is so fucking good. Like, fucking how? It's a movie about Bumblebee, for fuck's sake. Easily the best live action Transformers movie, to which you might reply, "Faint praise." But really, it's just a great movie, period.

Aquaman, same deal. It's a totally serviceable superhero flick, and a competent DC movie, which is practically mythical at this point. How did this happen?

As for Mary Poppins? Boring. So fucking boring. Emily Blunt is great, I wish they could have given her more to do. Anytime the story shifted focus away from her, my enjoyment jumped off a cliff. Two hours end up feeling like four. More like Mary Poopins amirite ahahahahahaha FUCK.

I knew Mary Poppins was gonna be shit when they whored her out to Nissan to sell fucking cars. Nothing beautiful and magical is ever sent to hock sweet rides so viciously unless production is aware they're dealing with a piece of crap and need to squeeze our every shekel possible. Oh, oh, are we dancing with cartoon animals again? The novelty on that's fucking gone, you know.

Alita was good, but very much a first chapter, and based on how it's doing, I doubt we'll be getting another one, which is a shame.

It kind of makes me want to dig out my old books for a reread, though. I think I only own about half of Last Order, and I didn't even realize that Mars Chronicle was a thing.

Aquaman was great. I haven't seen Bumblbee yet but meant to get around to it.
My wife was watching Indy & TLC and I was amused by how whimsical the music is, I don't remember it being so whimsical.

Bumblebee in my estimation was a better movie than Aquaman but not as pretty. But I enjoyed both quite a lot more than I expected to. Really looking forward to the 4K releases: I was so busy over the past two months that taking time out to drive over an hour to a decent theater was impossible, and the Korean subbed versions I watched left much to be desired.

Fighting with My Family. I don't usually see dramas at the theater, but I was sold on the combination of Stephen Merchant and wrestling. I was previously vaguely aware of Paige, but I had no idea she was English.

Anyway, I really liked it. Who would have thought there would ever be a movie where Lena Headey and Nick Frost were a (believable!) married coupled.
