TLJ is irredeemable in any respect. I still mourn the cost of that matinee ticket.

Bumblebee actually looks interesting. I'm hoping that the new director can help lead the way toward a better live-action franchise, but I'm going to have to read some good reviews before I start watching them again (haven't seen any since 3 which absolutely disgusted me).

Regarding Deadpool 2, I just assumed the subtitle should have been "Deadpooler". The first time around was entertaining, but subsequent viewings weren't much fun to me. A new movie with more of the same just doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in. But that's basically my opinion of Solo and more TF movies, for that matter.

Rose was terrible. Nothing against the actress herself and none of this shit is her fault. She shouldn't have been attacked on Insta like that. But the character was insufferable and useless, almost rage-inducing at times, and added nothing of value to the movie. It's like nothing was learned from the implosion of Jake Lloyd: you can't stick shit-characters front and center in a franchise this loved or the actors suffer as a result. I still have a soft-spot for Holdo but at least Laura Dern is established and doesn't have to take shit from anyone. No one's gonna question whether Laura is a bad actress, they're just gonna say Holdo was terrible and they hated Holdo. The chick playing Rose though isn't in that same position, which sucks for her.

Poe's the only other new character I remotely liked. There's some sort of charm there with the actor. Like he easily should've been the spiritual successor to Han in the franchise: the hot, joke-cracking, cool flyboy. But he's written terribly. What a waste.

I agree with Squirrel: nothing could've saved the movie. It's a mess. My fish and chips I ate at the time tasted great tho'.

Same. I told some of my co-workers I wasn't gonna see it and, I dunno, I got the impression they thought I was offended or something by the first one. Like, no, the first one was a perfect, fun, raunchy good-time. But at the same time I didn't need anymore of the same thing. Would've been more fun to start mashing him up with other things now. Make him more like a co-star or supporting character to someone else's story. I think he'd work better this way. I wasn't confident that the second one would deliver that. And to be honest, I was a bit put off by Domino. Don't care she's a black girl but I totally crushed on old school Domino so I wanted that look from her screen version. What we got looks like someone's OC.

Oh, finally saw Thor Ragnarok. Not bad. A bit too long. Felt at times like it was two different movies mashed into one. Hela seemed a bit too stiff as a villain but I think that's more due to having to cram so much into so little time. Didn't even frickin' recognize Kaul Urban. The Mark Mothersbaugh soundtrack was the shit, tho'.

I don't think there is gonna be a Deadpool 3. Think they might just do X-Force movies from now on. And I still think that Thor 3 felt like Asguardians of the Galaxy.

While I enjoy some levity in my movies, at times the joke cracking was too much. Jokes are cool but I wished they pulled back a bit more. Meh, Asgard done blew up, now jokes. Meh, my friend's dead, now jokes. Might be stuck on this alien planet forever but muh quips.

And I didn't really mean X-force movies. It's like here we go again jumping into a team. I need more franchises to earn their way to team-ups.

Incredibles 2.

There's a scene where the baby fights a raccoon that was phenomenal, but I felt like the rest of the movie kind of failed to justify its own existence.

Like, the central conflict was pointlessly manufactured. The movie starts out with all superheroes being outlawed, then a character has a plan to sway public opinion back in their favor, but a second character wants to use that same plan to discredit heroes forever! And all of that is just an excuse to prop up the importance of family values, or something?

Honestly, the villain's reasoning is completely fucked. They blame heroes for a tragic event in their past, but really it was the government's fault for banning superheroes in the first place, and the government is elected by the people, so... yeah, just blame the heroes, I guess.

But people seem to like it, so don't mind the old grouch.

I think I'll pass. Not really something I was ever looking for or needed in my life.

Smerla and I went to go see a screening of Pom Poko and of course she cried. She said she wasn't gonna but I knew she would because she always does. The ending gets her every time. Meanwhile, the ending just legit gets me fired up. Probably because this city's growing so fast and every forest and field is mercilessly bulldozed over so we can house the influx of people, their too-many kids, their too-big vehicles, and their too-much fuckin' stuff in their too-big house. Or made to erect shitty apartments and outdoor malls. And after all that, the idiots in charge of planning don't even make things walkable. Like, they make all these apartment complexes but don't give the people living there a place to buy a carton of eggs without forcing them to get into their car and drive somewhere. Or they build all of these damn office buildings without giving the workers a coffee shop nearby or a place to eat lunch that's in walking distance. Bleh. But I'm going off on a tangent, I suppose. Anyway, we had a couple of talkers on their cell phones and if we were only at Drafthouse, I would've gotten their asses booted. Also, having to wait ten minutes for churros is too damn long. At least they tasted good.

I bought all the Ghibli movies Disney released on DVD back in the day. I have Pom Poko, and I know I watched it, but I can't remember what the story was actually about other than the inflatable scrotal sacs.

Are you SURE you want to  live in a city?

Anyway I saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It was pretty good. Didn't like it as much as the first Jurassic World and really felt like a retread of The Lost World.

I thought Fallen Kingdom was amazing. I went in expecting a total shitshow and what I got was some kind of fucked up sci-fi monster movie.

Now I'm looking forward to the inevitable Jurassic World War.

Long term: I want to eventually downsize cities. Short term: Have to suck it up because circumstances. Also long term: We're growing so fast in this state that the "small" cities I'm thinking of will probably be crammed full of people, too.

Have to agree that the raccoon fight in Incredibles 2 was the best part of the film. The rest was fine but mostly a retread of what came before. The villain is not as compelling, though.

I also watched Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The stuff on the island was fantastic. Once they got back to civilization it was... eh... fine, I guess.

The opening scene was pretty cool.

Incredibles 2. Starting to sound like a broken record, but I liked it but not as much as the first. Did feel like a retread. Like same exact shit happened....just to mom instead of dad.

Watched Star Trek: First Contact last night, my favorite of the TNG era movies. It's been awhile since I've seen it, probably 2+ years.

There were two actors that I did not realize were in this film and got excited about.

Neal McDonough, who plays Damien Dahrk on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, played Lt Hawke, the Enterprise-Es helmsman. Weirdly enough, he kind of looks just a little bit like Chris Pine here. He does not look at all like Chris Pine now, though.

Alfre Woodard, who plays Mariah Dillard (STOKES, MARIAH STOKES) in Luke Cage, Lafeyette's mom on True Blood, the lady who's kid died in Civil War, and a shit-load of other things I've never seen, plays Lily, the woman who gets taken to the Enterprise-E while it's being invaded by the Borg and yells at Picard until he relents into self-destructing the Enterprise-E (which is later cancelled).

Of course, this reminds me Tim Russ, who played Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager. Literally every time I see him, no matter the role, I'm only thinking of his small line in Spaceballs: "We ain't found shit."

Went to Wasp-Woman and the Ant. Good enough.

Pretty low stakes as a followup to Infinity War. Really funny, at least.

If the MCU was ST:TNG, Infinity War is a season finale, and Ant-Man is one of those mid-season goofball episodes.

I wasn't big on the first Ant-man movie. I think I'm just going to let it go until the home release before bothering.

I did that with Black Panther and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't suck but was enjoyable (though not the second coming of superguy flicks that people want to believe it to be).

The other night, I watched Death of Superman and Ninja Batman back-to-back.

Death of Superman was a fairly decent adaptation, but I just don't like the character designs, particularly Superman's suit and tree trunk neck. They've been using this template in all the recent Justice League-related animated films, and it's awful. They desperately need a new look.

Ninja Batman was a fucking mess. Like, everyone should watch it simply to make up their own mind, but it's so bizarre. It's not as if Batman is some hallowed property, it's really been put through the wringer over the years, but even then this one is still such a head-scratcher. Weird, man.

It's the New 52 aesthetic. It's the new normal. Give me red trunks any day. Can't beat the classic.

NO, this turd should be shunned like the leprous mass it is. Good God, man, it's bad.

Finally saw Ant-Man and Wasp. My favorite part of the movie was explaining the tag at the end because Schmoo and Merla haven't seen Infinity War. These movies are too long. I was ready for my post-cinematic wee and we hadn't even made to the giant Pez dispenser yet.

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. Great. Loved it. If you hate Teen Titans Go!, you'll really fucking hate this movie.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Not bad. Dragged in spots, but all the action was deadly. Tom Cruise is old. Superman's mustache is impeccable.
