Yeah, I read about that last night.  Is it wrong that I'm indifferent to it?  Because I think they pretty much just make the same movie down to the character designs over and over again?

Yeah I didn't care either. I did wish they had made a 2nd part to Spirited Away tho. Then again Haku looks like a mini Howl so theres that

Apparently they are doing a live action film of one of my favorite anime, "Mobile Police: Patlabor."

They've even built a huge model, which apparently just survived a typhoon.

So Ghibli is shutting down for good.

They might "restructure" instead, whatever the fuck that means.

I've been watching Transformers Masterforce.
Had the dvds for ages but since Headmasters was such a chore to get through I never got around to watching Masterforce and Victory. But Masterforce isn't too bad.

Pretenders still suck tho

I found Masterforce to be pretty good after Ginrai effectively takes over the storyline.

I never finished Victory. Couldn't do it...I don't know how some people can say that it was better than Masterforce.

Fate/Stay Night in less than a month's time.  Literally all I'm looking forward to right now anime-wise.  Sailor Moon Crystal's pace became too glacial.  I'll have to pick it back up later.  I've been reading recaps anyway, so not really missing anything there.

The new Sailor Moon is slow because they only release every other week (except the last one due to the extra Saturday pushing it to three weeks), they're still introducing characters, and we have all heard it before. My niece loves it, though.

I've gone back and started watching Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple. It's been fun so far.

Yeah, I knew about the the release schedule but yeah... probably something better watching in bulk.

I tried watching Kenichi a while back but couldn't get into it.

I watched some Carnival Phantasm to get hyped for Fate/Stay Night.

Kenichi has been entertaining. It's standard shonen fighting progression style, but it's fun. Can't get enough Miu.

BTW, the next Ghost in the Shell: Arise episode is subbed and in the wild. Hopefully my download will be done by tomorrow evening so I'll have something to do after bush-hogging, weedeating, fixing the microwave, and hitting the shooting range.

Merla and I saw some of this thing called The Devil is a Part-Timer or something.  It was okay.  But I don't see any reason to stick with it past the first episode.  I feel like I'm rewatching parts of Kyo Kara Maoh for starters.  Except the characters in this one are pretty generic and forgettable.

I thought Devil Is A Part-Timer was pretty good. "I'm going to conquer the world, and I'm going to start with this one McDonald's in Japan!" That's great stuff, there. Who'd have thought Satan would be such an enthusiastic shift-worker?

Just finished Dragonar Academy. It's short, which is good because this is more hackneyed, cliched crap with the occasional hooter or two.

Invaders of the Rokujouma was a fun little show. Everyone wants this guy's apartment because of some unspoken arcane powet it houses, and they compromise and live together. It's like a harem show, but not so bad. I couldn't really hate any of the characters in the show, even if I wanted to punch the dude out a few times for being a retard. It was better early on, though, simply because it was much funnier when they all wanted to kill each other before they became buddy-buddy.

I'm starting to see some pacing issues with Fate/Stay Night now.  Which is disappointing.  I understand the need for exchanges.  Hell, one of my favorite episodes of Fate/Zero was the banquet of kings where three character sit over wine and chat.  But we're having way too much chatting about too much of nothing.  I'm actually finding myself zoning out in parts.  Maybe they'll add more animation to the blu-rays for some of the scenes to liven shit up a bit.  The fights are awesomely pretty though.

I saw most of Madoka Magica.  I see the appeal of it and I admire the intent.  I get why people like it.  My overall enjoyment was minimal.  Probably having a soft spot for magical girls helps.  Which I don't got.

I've been watching Tenshi na Konamaiki.  Which is from, like, 2002.  The animation is pretty poor.  Lots of flipper hands and weird faces in this thing.  BUT BUT BUT... story and characters are actually pretty nice.  So I marathoned a bunch of it.  I forgot how much I like Megumi Hayashibara as a female lead.  She just has this perfect comedic delivery.  And there's some neat parts.  Like this part where she's all "I hate you" to the delinquent who likes her and he's all "I love you" and it escalates into a shouting match of "I really hate you"s and "I really love you"s.  And the chick's friend is all, "the loudest one doesn't win, ya know" or whatever.  I wish they could've gone with the manga ending but whatever.  Part of me would like a remake, but the weird faces and flipper hands and all that other stuff sorta add this unintentional humor to it.  And purple nose blood streaking all over the bottom of dude's faces.  Heh.

Finally saw Little Witch Academia the other day. I'm totally in support of it getting an on-going series. Very cute, and very well-animated. My niece really loved it, too...which is to say that it's not part of the trashy stuff I'm usually watching. If you interested but can't find it, try looking under Anime Mirai 2013.

Sailor Moon Crystal has been one I've followed mainly out of nostalgia. While it seems close to the manga story and seems to be animated more closely to it, the art can get wonky. Generally though it's been good to revisit it. And it's another I can share...my nephews grew up watching the old show on Toonami, and their sister can watch it now, too. So that's fun.

Nisekoi ("False Love") was a fun show...it's basically an Archie-style love-triangle anime. It was fun primarily because the two leads legitimately hated each other most of the time (a boy, the Archie, and girl, the Veronica, of two rival mob families). Of course, it weakened as they grew closer, and it just had to close with a spoof of Romeo and Juliet. Of course, the Betty was the best girl, but anyway, there's another season of it coming. I found it pretty funny, so I'll pick it back up next time.

Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi ("A Bridge to the Starry Skies") was a pretty typical love-at-first-sight show that seemed to go the way of harem, but the guy actually made a decision and stuck with it. So it was nice to have a story that told itself and wrapped itself up nicely before the end, but all told it was pretty forgettable.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis ("Lord Marksman and the Vanadis") had the makings of an ecchi show, and there were elements of that, but it was more of a coming-of-age story for the main character, Lord Tigre, and how he moved to save his land and people from invasion despite being captured and indentured to a powerful war maiden with elemental powers. More about military strategy and overcoming-all-odds, it is based on a series of light novels that continues, so hopefully the show will, too...I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, probably the most of anything in the fall season.

I've seen a few more that I'll comment on later. I've not felt well today, and I have some online training videos I have to watch while I'm off-work that are helping to kill my vacation.

I finally checked out Initial D.  It was Superbowl Sunday and I just wanted to try something, so the dubbed version was sitting there on Crackle.  I shouldn't have been surprised it was so good.  I saw a few pieces in Japanese, so I think I'll chell the series out again in Japanese later.  I didn't realize the release for it was so staggered either.  So maybe I'm checking it out at the right time, given Funi did a whole new redub for it and it's on Amazon relatively cheap.

I've also been rewatching Nodame Cantabile and Big Windup.  I checked out the Paris season of Nodame and now I have to complete the rest of Big Windup.  I love Big Windup.  I'm sorry to hear it didn't do better over here and Funi doesn't want to pick up the rest.  As for Nodame, I just want the damn thing to have a domestic release.

I picked up an older show a couple weeks that I just started watching: Yosuga no Sora, about a brother and sister moving to the country and meeting up with people they knew years before...mostly chicks, of course. So I figured, yeah, it's another prettily animated harem show...but apparently it's based on a love simulator game or something, because at the fourth episode the guy "won the route", if you catch my drift. I was pretty shocked that they showed the guy actually scoring. While I like the playfully ecchi and occasional trashy stuff as a guilty pleasure, I'm not into hentai, even if it's softcore which this basically was. So after that I did some checking...the rest of the show is about two or three more additional "routes", ending with him pairing with his sister. Yeah, how 'bout no? I deleted it and found better stuff to spend time with.

I found a show called Knights of Sidonia which is supposed to be good...will find out next week when I start watching it. Has anyone caught it yet?

World Conquest Zvezda Plot looked like it might be skeevy, but I picked it up anyway. Basically a high schooler who's been turned away from home finds a new one amongst a motley crew of would-be world conquerers led by what appears to be an little girl. It's been entertaining thus far, and it has the added benefit of playing its cards close and not being predictable.

I finished watching Familiar of Zero a couple weeks ago. A tsundere magical girl who sucks at magic but attending a magic school in another world had to summon a familiar to continue her education, and instead of a familiar animal she summoned a Japanese boy her own age with no apparent magical abilities. As time goes on, they grow close and discover their true abilities. It was a good show the first season, but it really trailed off the longer it went. Apparently the second and third seasons were much different from the source light novels, and the last one was totally divergent. Which, I guess, is just as well since the original author died and will never complete the work.

I've been watching a ton of other stuff, and lots that I've been done with for quite a while...will make mention when I next have opportunity.

I googled that and his sister is also his twin.  Squick City.

What I heard about it was that it was an anime made for Netflix and not anything special.  But I haven't seen it or looked it up in depth or anything.

I watched a few eps on Hulu a couple of months back because it was recommended to me.  I thought it was okay but I didn't feel the plot was going anywhere interesting and the pro-tag dude was too vanilla for me to care about so I dropped it.

I'm on Princess Nine right now.  I'm actually watching it as both sub and dub because I played on ep on Youtube and the autoplay is alternating between the two of them as it loads the next episode. (Eps 1 and 2 dubbed, eps 3 through 5 subbed, and now ep 6 dub...)  The dub's decent enough that I don't mind.  It doesn't strike me as anything super special so far but some of the characters are neat and the show seems nice.  I'll keep watching it.

I haven't finished Initial D yet but I'm sort of jumping around that one.  1st Stage is five stars for sure and I'll love that one forever and ever, but the decline in the story's apparent as the episode count goes up so I don't know if or when I'll get to the final two stages.  I haven't finished 3rd Stage yet and the latter part of 4th stage is gettin a bit dull.

I never watched Initial D, but it seemed to be one of those titles that should have ended much sooner than it did. One of its contemporaries, Great Teacher Onizuka, is an example of this: had the creator put a bow in it closer to the half-way point (and condensed it just a bit), the result would have been a far better book, and the show would have had a proper ending. And I loved that series.

Rail Wars! was a good show. I figured it'd half be about a few fan-servicey train chicks clumsily flopping around, and while there was a modicum of that (a bare modicum to be honest) it was more about a guy living his dream and learning to rely on an unproven team of fellow students turned co-workers turned friends. Fun show, well-animated, and it's nearly completely released on blu-ray (I think there is one volume to go).

Trinity Seven was a hokey magic show about one guy who lost his childhood friend/cousin when the world they were living in was magically unmade. He winds up going to a magic school run by a group of hotties called the Trinity Seven who he has to make fall in love with him since he is a candidate to become the new demon lord...yeah, makes a lot of sense. Ecchi-fest, but no real story...hell, it doesn't even finish telling what little it had. Basically a waste of time.

Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis is a gorgeous show that has an air of mystery...I'm four eps into it, and I still don't know where it's going. A crooked guy told a powerful angel/demon chick he knew how to get to Shangri-la (whatever it is in this show) while being pursued by a would-be knight from a disgraced family. I haven't watched it in a while because I was downloading it as it aired, and the subbers I was using was slow, but I've caught up with it it now. I'll still have to do a bit of rewatching, so it'll be awhile before I pick it back up. But I'm looking forward to it.

Bahamut's definitely on my list but I probably won't get to it anytime soon.

You should chell out Initial D, Squirrely.  The first five eps are actually great viewing all together because it almost feels like a mini-movie.  Even though the series itself goes on too long, because of the time it took to get to each Stage they appear to be structured in a way that the conclusion of each Stage (at least for the first 3 Stages) could be read as a series ending.  Like someone in charge of the production said "hey fellas, let's make it look like its over in case we all die before we make the next one."  So if you decide to watch the first season but don't care to continue, nothing of value is lost.

I recently picked up watching Assassination Classroom...an octopus-looking creature of great powet and speed destroys 75% of the moon and is threatening to do the same to the earth. It and the government compromise by installing it as the teacher at a junior high class of cast-off students who are given the order to figure out how to assassinate it before the school year is up.

It's been a hoot thus far.

I saw some of Lovely Complex since it was recommended to me.  The relationships kinda seemed almost borderline abusive, especially between the main characters.  Which I thought was an odd vibe for me to get from it considering the other shit I'll sit through.  Otani's basically male-Taiga from Toradora and I like Taiga so maybe the difference is that he wasn't given a female Ryuji to bounce off of.  Because Risa feels hurt all the time and cries a lot.  One of the "lessons" I saw repeated in the show that you'll snag the man you want if you just work hard enough, which is just yuck.  And most the humor fell flat, I thought.  Like everything with the creepy student teacher.  The rival with the double personality actually held my interest more.  I probably would've liked her better as the main character.

I also got through more of Kimi ni Todoke and I have to say all of the Chizuri-focused eps were kinda tedious.  So many episodes shouldn't be dead-center on a supporting character like that.  I mean, I like Chizuru (and Ryu) but I really wanted to get back to it being about Sawako and Kazahaya.

I'm looking for more stuff to watch and am finding myself really turned off by shows with an over abundance of Froot Loops hair colors right now.
