Ha ha. I think it might be typical behavior for a lot of people. Anyway, I went ahead and rolled forward on that show and it got better. But then they introduced this model. Because every other Japanese high school has a popular model going there. Ugh. I just stopped there for now.

I thought I made a post about Skip Beat. I tried it the other day. Anyway, its lame. Pop star guy uses girl, girl decides to become famous to get him back; girl gets a makeover but doesn't even have a talent or know what she's doin' to get famous; girl's all 'i will beat him blah blah.' Like, get you're own goals in life, wench. Even though its a Japanese product, it comes off like a weeaboo web comic with a directionless weak-ass plot and characters.

I started watching an anime I saw a little bit of years ago called Gah Rei Zero. The first two episodes show people fighting evil spirits with awesome guns and martial arts, then this girl with a katana who used to be on their side starts butchering them left and right with heads and arms going everywhere, so I figured it would be an Elfen-Lied/Gantz/Higurashi type anime. Then the sword girl meets another girl with a sword, her former bff, and they have to fight each other.

The rest of the anime shows how the two girls meet and how their friendship develops, and the action gets pushed to the side as it becomes more of a teenage girl drama fest. I'm hoping the action ramps up at the end, and I'm a bit glad it's only 12 episodes.

What really bugs me is the main female character (not the one who was doing all the slaughtering in the beginning) is a total pussy. She's one of those main female anime characters who cries a lot, who is too timid and nice and shy, and gets scared easily when the heat is on. During one scene where they're ambushed by an army of zombies in a subway tunnel, she refuses to fight them because they were once human. Another time one of her former teachers dies and then is resurrected by a headcrab and she refuses to fight her former teacher, and then gets all traumatized when she has to kill the zombie.

Seriously? Stop being such a crybaby and man the fuck up. You're fighting monsters and zombies, this isn't the place to cry in the middle of the battlefield. Grow a god damn pair.

I know why it's done, but I don't see its effectiveness in reeling in any viewer that wasn't already interested in watching a Miyazaki movie to begin with. At least with something that's being made in-house, whoever can customize the script and character to try to make something that sorta resembles the actor. I get the appeal in doing shit like that. But with a foreign dub? Especially when it's steeped in Japanese culture. Most of the public just sees more Miyazaki same-face animu and don't bother. I swear nearly every dub sounds like a bunch of bored, tired white folks.

It's the same reason you had Judd Nelson playing Hot Rod and Robert Stack playing Magnus in the '86 TF movie along with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (ironically the most prolific actor of our time). While kids go, "yay, cartoon," adults see names they are familiar with, and their interest is piqued.

I've only watched a few Miyazaki flicks over the years: Cagliostro, Nausicaa, and Mononoke...though I did watch most of Ponyo with my niece before I fell asleep.

I still don't think big names in a Miyazaki movie would be very effective. Nor do I think any adult was all "Oh, Judd Nelson." I didn't even remember he was a voice in that movie.

I'm a few episodes into Nisekoi right now. It's lightweight fare, but it's been a lot of fun so far.

I've got the whole season of Attack on Titan, but I haven't started watching it yet. It just looks so damn depressing I can't gen up enough desire to start watching it. But it does look pretty....

It IS kinda a bummer. I enjoyed it when I was watching it but I can't really make myself watch it again.

I'm not watching any anime now but I know what I'll watch in the future: Sailor Moon Crystal and Fate/Stay Night (yeah, it's getting remade, too.) Can't wait for those.

Sailor Moon Crystal was decent. Don't know why there was so much, uh, SPACE at the beginning. But okay. And the faces are pretty but remind me of a blow-up doll as well. lol But I'm sure all of the Sailor Moon fans loved it. I'll be watching.

The World Is Still Beautiful had a fun premise but I think it'll get old fast. I'm three episodes in. Don't know if I'll stick with it. Can kinda see where this is going now and I don't know if I'm all that interested. It doesn't help that nearly everyone feels (and looks) like some sort of stock character from another show.

Usagi Drop. Again, loved the concept. Guy in his thirties is raising his grandfather's orphan six-yr old daughter and has to learn about single parenthood. But, apparently, he's gonna marry her when she gets older which puts a whole squicky pedo-angle to it. UGH. No, thanks.

I'm re-watching Full Metal Panic!, as I found a blu-ray release the other day and I had forgotten about it. Sousuke getting the shit beat out of him with a fan is still funny as hell, but it's too bad they never could continue this as the light novels went in for quite a while.

I've seen the ads for Attack on Titan, but I'm just kinda meh. I've even kinda stopped watching Super Sentai. I'll get back to it though. I just don't do anything half assed and burned myself out by like watching 6-7 episodes at a time.

The last anime I watched was actually Zoids that I checked out from work.

Oh god I really hope the SM boom dies down by the next time I go to Japan. When something gets trendy then it is EVERYWHERE. This shit better not last till when Eva 4 comes out

I want a new exciting anime to watch. But not a whole lot grabs me these days. I sat through Fate/kaleid Liner Prisma ☆Illya Whatthefuck♣Crazyjapaneses Wackysymbolshuzzah☈☋☌☍☎ ☏"whatever" It probably could've been 1/2 as long. And it was a bit pedotastic. Stop showing Illya without clothes. I'm judging you. Otherwise, it was okay background fodder while I internet browsed or did whatever it was I was doing while it played.

I was wrong: Kill La Kill was not done by Gainax...it was done by Trigger, who I had not heard of before since this was their first show. It reminded me so much of those bat crap insane Gainax productions that I defaulted to Gainax. Seeing as it was done by staff formerly tied to Gurren Lagann, it's understandable.
