I've seen the Student Council saga way back when and loved it.  I had tried to pick up where I left off all these later, only to be rather bored by it.  Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yah its a bit slow and boring but if I start a (short) anime i feel like i have to finish it even if it sucks (i.e. samurai champloo).

What about Kare Kano? its super funny and short (finished way before the manga did, only like 25 eps or so)

I've heard good things about that one.  I think Shwiggie might've recommended that one at some point.  I'll look into it.

And I'm the opposite.  If I think an anime is total crap, then I just drop it.  I don't care if I'm on episode 1 of 2.  I actually recall liking a few eps of Samurai Champloo.  Maybe not liking the series overall, but some of it was watchable.

The music was bomb tho.

Anyways I don't watch new-ish anime anymore, I just rewatch the oldies :-/ The newest one I've watched was Inuyasha and only because of its author.

Dear god I haven't posted here since over a year ago!

I saw most of Madoka Magica.  I see the appeal of it and I admire the intent.  I get why people like it.  My overall enjoyment was minimal.  Probably having a soft spot for magical girls helps.  Which I don't got.

I don't even like magical girl series and I loved that series. I remember watching the first three episodes and thinking Mami was the coolest thing ever, what with magical flintlock guns to gun-fu her enemies with. And then I stopped watching it for a while because she ded.

I picked up an older show a couple weeks that I just started watching: Yosuga no Sora,
:lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:
 :trap:

I could have warned you about that series. Me and some buddies started it up and got to the fourth episode and all of a sudden PORN. And we were like "uh wat."
I haven't seen the rest of it but could see it would get incestual fast. And looking up the rest of it, yea, the bro and sister start screwing like rabbits before the end of the series.

I don't understand a series like that. For those who watch it for fap material, there's too much actual plot and story between each sex scene. Any anyone there for the harem romantic drama would be turned off by the random gratuitous pr0n scenes.

I can't even remember the stuff I've watched in the past year, since I didn't watch much of anything. Right now I'm on "From The New World", Shin Sekai Yori, which is set 1000 years in the future where everyone has telekinetic powers but everything's gone all feudal and 13th century farming culture for some reason. It's said to be one of the best series of the last couple years, but I'm a little bored with it so far.

Kill la Kill... yes. I liked Kill la Kill but I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. Problem I had with it was that the entire theme of the series seemed to be to outdo itself. It would have something happen way over the top, and then the next episode would try to surpass even that. It got just a little tiresome after a while.
And then you have these people running around naked saying clothing is evil, and then the main villain suddenly said "I'm actually not a badguy, I'm trying to fight my mother who wants to rule the world with sentient alien clothes!" Yea, no. It's too much of a sudden turn around for no reason, and doesn't justify how much of a bitch she was for most of the series.

Someone mentioned Attack on Titan. I finished that a couple years ago. Good series. It was a little dragged out with some serious filler, and a lot of the humans acted like stupid shits, but it was good enough and badass enough for me to enjoy it one time around. Not sure I'd watch it twice due to the filler though.

And netflix notes that I watched Black Butler. Yes.
The reason I wanted to watch this was because of the first episode. In it, this guy tries to scam Ciel Phantomhive, the protagonist and rich young heir, out of his business and money. And Ceil has his demon butler torment the guy, mentally screw him over, and then bake him alive in an oven (oddly the guy runs away later, so maybe the baking never happened?). The reason I didn't want to watch this was because all the fangirls said it was filled with teh GAY.
It was a little in between. There was only maybe 2 gaybait scenes in the entire series, so I'm not sure what the fangirls saw in it. Maybe because it has one of the only openly gay characters in anime, Grell, who I found annoying as hell. And the series wasn't quite as good as the first episode, but it was somewhat enjoyable. The ending was annoying though. I fully expected Sebastian to go against his contract of eating Ciel's soul, out of like for the boy, but...
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Apparently that Japornamation (snrk) was based on a dating sim or something, where the whole point is to pursue a girl "route" and you win when you bang. Wish I'd known that before the 4th ep, because I liked the show itself.

As for Kill ls Kill, that's Gainax for you.

I agree on Kill la Kill being tiresome.  I feel like it could've been so much better if someone had been around to reign the makers in and have them scale back on some things.  While I liked it and Attack on Titan as I first viewed them, I found they don't have much re-watchability for me.  When I re-watch Initial D season 1, I still get the same thrills during the races I got when I first saw it.  But I also like Initial D's characters better than Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan, so that probably has a lot to do with it as well.

I started Log Horizon and I like it.  Wish Akatsuki didn't look like a damn child when she's a graduate student.  So damn annoying.  If they wanted her to look like a kid, they should've just made her a kid with a silly crush on Shiroe.  This whole "looks like a kid but is actually an adult" thing Japan's got going on disturbs me.  Still, LH's miles better than that disappointing piece of crap Sword Art Online.  Shiroe >>>> Kirito the Gary Stu.

I also tried Psycho Pass because I've heard so much raving about and, other than a few of the characters, I hated it for the most part.  Most of all the gross treatment of women in this series.  It has nothing to do with trying to tell a mature or adult story, which tends to be the excuse I see for it.  I can watch a story with rape or death in it and even the exploding heads and whatnot, but the presentation here was done with a sense of indulgence that I immediately picked up on and was able to follow into other episodes.  Like the rape in the first ep.  And the Yuki death scene.  Let's get women in their pantsu and harm them while they cry.  Totally gross.

Log Horizon sounds like Sword Art Online done better. I'm planning on picking it up once the last season hits bluray.

When I say, "pick up," I mean, "download subs." I only buy the stuff I really like. Most anime is so shitty is not even worth rewatching, let alone buying a physical copy.

I want to buy the entire series of Nodame Cantabile--the anime not the live action--with English and Japanese on it so much and the goddamn thing doesn't have an official release over here at all except for the English dub of the first season on Crackle.  That's right, they managed to dub it in English but won't freaking sell it.  GYABO!   :goddammit:

Redline.

Simple plot, kinda stupid, but enjoyable as all hell. I actually had some fun watching this.
I had no idea what was going on during some of it due to the crazy artwork making everything all confusing and crap.

The ending I found lacking. It was like "LOVE!" and then it suddenly ended. Did they live? Did they die? Did they ascend to a higher state of being?

It was like Redline was trying to beat the Hobbit for shortest ending ever and they won.

I couldn't get the video to load, but all I needed to see was, "from the creators of Senran Kagura". What an abortion that show was...then again it was done primarily to promote the game. Which, if it's anything like the anime, is about teams of big-titted bimbos beating the bazooms off each other.

Pretty much. Fanservice, big tits, girls fighting each other (symbolic for their raging lesbian desire I bet)

How much of it did you watch? If you didn't get through episode 10-11 you wouldn't have any idea what's really going on.

In any case there's also three movies out of the series. 1 and 2 are just movie versions of the series, which seems to be a popular thing to do with anime nowadays. (Gurren Lagann, or Macross Frontier for example).

The third movie is an original story. I have it on my hard drive but haven't watched it. It looks intense though. And the usual trippy Shaft color/texture palette.

So peeps be sayin' Log Horizon is done since the creator's been charged with tax evasion.  How does that work in glorious Nihon?  He can write from the slammer, right?

I watched an ep of Ore Monogatari.  I left off the "!!" at the end.  But it'd look like I'm shouting.  It seems very decent.  I went and looked up the manga since I couldn't wait for next week's episode.  I'm impressed in the direction it goes.  Because it seemed like this series was gonna diddle-daddle for a while and I'm glad it apparently won't.

So, I've been watching a few things....

I saw some more of Kamisama Kiss.  It seems like it has the potential to be a better show but falls short.  I like the dub though so there's that.

Itazura na Kiss - I got through a couple of episodes and plan to pick up back up later.  It was decent so far.

Hajime no Ippo - Planned to watch this one for a while now as I had heard good things of it for years.  Kinda like with Initial D where I took forever to get to it.  But the discs on Netflix would mysteriously vanish like what happened with a lot of out of print titles and I took my time getting to it.  I like this one.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU - I was bored.  I laughed when Hachiman called that one chick a bitch.  Because "bitch" said by a Japanese person is hilarious.

Wolf Girl and Black Prince - Not awful but not interesting either.

Blue Spring Ride - Yawn.

Yowamushi Pedal - Just watched a tiny bit of it because Tomokazu Seki was voicing a character in the second season or something.  I might watch this one later from the beginning.  Still on the fence with it.

Fate/Stay Night: UBW (Second Cour) - I swear, anytime the show gets ramped up, something interrupts the tension.  A few eps back, it was a flashback in the middle of a fight.  Then the cut-off spot between this past ep and the week before was in a poor spot.  When the battles get going, they're awesome so it's a real shame.  And the flounder face has not grown on me.  Look at Gilgamesh from Fate/Stay Night: UBW and then his appearance in previous Ufotable Fate series Fate/Zero.  Not the hair or the armor or anything like that, look at the facial profile.  Where's his forehead and his jaw?  What the fuck happened to the bridge of the nose?  Why would make the show look so beautiful and then do crap like this?  It looks like when an American highschooler draws an animu webcomic.  Nearly all of the characters in UBW have this exact same formless fish face.  Yuck.

I saw more Yowamushi Pedal.  I pretty much had a giant marathon on Tuesday, watching about 25 episodes in a row on Crunchy Roll while I went about my day.  The show has a tendency to drag a bit, especially by adding in a bunch of flashbacks.  Now that the main characters have reached Inter-High, the rest of the series and the entire next season's focus are those three days.  Just watching them reach the first chell point was kinda exhausting.  It took, like, three episodes for them to get there.  I don't know if I'm going to actually watch the rest of it because I already know who wins and I'm not a fan of stuff dragging out this way.

I continued Hajime no Ippo.  I think I'm around ep 21.

I kind of liked this show...enough to start picking up the second season episodes. Haven't watched them yet as I haven't had time.

Punch Line is...interesting, but that's not to say that it's good. It's delightfully weird, but they don't do anything of any apparent consequence. It's still on my pickup list, but it'd better start soon...it's half-way done, already. I'd say more of what it's about, but I just can't really explain it at this point.

Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches has been consistently entertaining. A delinquent has the powet to switch bodies with others, including the smartest girl in the school, the student council VP, and the school spiritualist/spaz. They form a supernatural studies club and basically flounce around in each other's bodies. Turns out there's more than just one with magical kissing powers, though. It's cute, it's fun, and I've enjoyed it thus far.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka (DanMachi, or, "Is It Okay to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?") has been fun, too. It's about a town with its own huge dungeon where adventurers come for treasure and experience. However, they have to be members of a divine family headed by a member of a Greek pantheon, and Bell is a total newbie who joins up with tiny yet busty goddess Hestia. It's a coming of age tale about him growing into a proper adventurer and learning to work with others while fighting for respect, experience, and one's daily bread. If you like RPGs, it's a natural fit, but there's an earnestness to the show I like a lot.

Assassination Classroom has been a hoot. An alien/space monster/DNA experiment gone wrong blows up 75% of the moon, and there's nothing anyone can do about it when he promises to do the same to Earth. So he compromises by becoming the teacher of a class of outcasts from a cruel but prestigious academy and giving them the rest of the school year to find a way to kill him. So they basically become trainees of the military and various assassins in an effort to save the earth...and make 10 billion yen. It turns out that the monster is actually a damn good teacher, and while learning a lot from and of him, they learn about themselves and begin to grow, too. Weird, but fun.

Still making up my mind about Shokugeki no Souma. Kid from a family diner is forced into a radical culinary school by his celebrity chef dad, and the place is insane about food. It's engaging, but very odd based on how seriously and hokey everyone is about cooking. Entertaining, but I can see where it'd be hard for some to swallow...which is a bad joke you'll get if you watch this.

Triage X is a tits and violence show with heavy editing. I have gotten through three episodes, but I'm not sure it's worth continuing. A team of "nurses" kill people who've been black labeled by a doctor, and they're led by a guy who was pieced back together after an explosion meant for said doctor. It's not particularly alluring from any POV. If you like T&A, there's heavy TV editing that tames it down. If you like lots of violence, you get it, and everyone who gets it has it coming, but there's no real rhyme or reason. It may develop itself, but possibly not before losing everybody's interest.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I'm thinking of checking out Wolf Children because a group I'm a part of has discovered it like it never existed until now and are acting like it's the newest and greatest thing. I've known of it for a while, was interested but never picked it up.

It looks damn cute, though.

I can't find it online or streaming that's NOT dubbed... so I may have to put on my eyepatch and hook hand and get it the old way.

I'm in the 40's now with Hajime no Ippo.  I love this goddamn series.  Perfect blend of fighting, drama, and comedy packed with fully developed and realized characters.  Nearly all of them are pricks, but you're still given reasons to root for them.  I think the last time I saw a series that made me laugh so much was when I first watched Ranma 1/2 as a teenager.  I have a long way to go because there's 70+ eps and then two other, shorter seasons but I know I'm gonna be so bummed when I run out.

I now dedicate this post to karaoke night...

I must be getting old...every high school girl comes into my work asking about this anime or that manga and I'm just  "uh huh...uh huh...well I can see if I can get it." I just don't even seem to give a crap about it anymore. It's like anything made after 2002 and I just say fuck it.

Ok so I finally watched a couple of new anime (only because they were short)

Ouran Highschool Host Club (26 eps)
SO FUNNY. Haven't laughed this much while watching an anime since Ranma. Definitely one of my favourites now. 100% recommended

Kamisama Hajimemashite (2 seasons, 25 eps total, ongoing)
Many funny parts too, hot guys everywhere and a bit of romance too. Unfortunately its on-going (i started watching it before knowing this, i hateeee having to wait). Def recommend this one if you don't care about its ongoing status (also the ending songs are pretty cute)

Maid-sama (26 eps)
Watched this after Ouran thinking hey its probably funny too (and so did many reviews said so ) but wasn't that funny at all, the main guy who likes the main girl is too intense in the sense that he's practically obsessed with this girl since the beginning. Even though I didn't like it I had to watch it until the end because I have ocd. I don't recommend this one

Nichijiou (26 eps)
Someone posted this video on reddit
and I thought it was hilarious so I decided to watch it. Not so funny, some things don't translate well into english so it can get confusing/ don't get the joke. I don't want to watch it anymore but again thanks to ocd I need to .

There was plenty of crap pre-2002, too.  I'd say the same amount of it was junky back then as it is now.  But, yeah, we're getting older and anime is aimed young.  Try to come up with titles that don't involve a main character in high school and compare that number with the ones that do.

I love Ouran.

I think this show could've been much better but it's not bad.

This one was sooooo disappointing.  It keeps getting recommended to me over and over again because I love Toradora and Ouran and I just can't get into it.  The main girl's a bitch and the dude has, like, no reason to like her but he's totally obsessed like you said which is gross.  Have you seen Kimi ni Todoke, Faye?  If you haven't you might like that one.

The clip was funny and I liked the style and animation but I don't think I'll bother with this one.

I've finished the first and third series of Hajime no Ippo and now need to go through the second.

Are Toradora and Kimi ni Todoke as funny as Ouran? I like that they are both "finished" and only 25 eps. Which one is the best of those two, in your opinion?

I think Ouran's humor is sort of crazier than Toradora or Kimi ni Todoke.  Toradora's the shorter and quirkier of the two though, so go with that one.  Kimi ni Todoke actually has a second season.  :D

And your OCD will hate me because there's so many episodes but if you haven't seen Hajime no Ippo, you really should.  It's hilarious.  Here's Ippo punching his boner.

How many episodes tho??

and this is important: The anime in both Toradora and Kimi ni todoke covers everything till the end of the manga? or stops in the middle of it?Because thats exactly what happened with Ouran and of course I spent like 3 days night and day reading the whole manga. By the end my brain was pulsating
