There are certainly shitty shows on Cartoon Network, but you can't really say the channel itself is inherently shitty. Well, except for the fact that they continue to air the latest, lamest incarnations of the Transformers franchise. Cartoon Network is indeed shitty in that respect.

The ooze was supposed to be symbolic of a riot, due to lack of Maromi.

So they say.

If that was the case, why did the crazy cop fight the ooze?

And I don't have cable either! Woo! No shitty CN for me.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Trying to fight the riot, I suppose. The entire episode is nothing but insane and out of control symbolism.

I don't know what's with the Japanese and symbolism. Some is fine, but with some anime it's like trying to watch the Matrix sequels.

You mean it makes you want to kill the Wachowski brothers? Cause that's what happened when I saw the Matrix sequels.

But shitty CN brought us GITS.
Good ole Z2SO4 first brought me GITS.  Then I bought the DVDs.  I never watched the CN run.

A good portion of the anime they air is shitty.  Most of their homegrown, inbred cartoons are shitty.  TF shows are doubly shitty, which isn't their fault, but they run it on the channel.  So I conclude it to be shitty in general.  Only things I watch on the channel these days are Justice League and Harvey Birdman, and that's if I remember to tune in.

No, I wanted to kill myself for first wasting the time/money watching Reloaded and then being naively hopeful for Revolutions to patch it up and thus blowing another instance of time/money.  I had the sneaking suspicion they would suck and suck hard, yet I did not heed my instinct.

Those dudes are freaks.  I saw an interview with them were they spend most of the hour playing with their shoe laces.  I wouldn't be suprised if they stole the idea for the first matrix and then had to come up with the material themselves for the other two, hence the crap.

It's funny that you should mention that, since there is a large conspiracy as to whether or not the idea for the first...  It's also funny that Larry Wachowski is a woman now....literally.

I kinda felt that, too.  Things shouldn't differ so radically in quality.  I guess in Lucas's case, you could blame senility or Willow or something for St*r WarzzZZ taking the fart but the Matrix sequels were far more timely in comparision.  The Matrix is a modern day classic and the other two are uber-shitty.  Not even "shitty but watchable", just shitty.  Just plain ol' shitty-shitty.  That's just wrong.

And I remember the shoes.  Damn, that bothered me.  Stop playing with your goddamn shoe.  That's when I knew they were truly freaks.

Good point.  I'm surprised that some of the Nick originals (Avatar, Catscratch, Danny Phantom) lately have actually been better than the CN originals (just about anything, really).  And I loved Rocko's Modern Life but something about Camp Lazlo, even if it is by the same guy, is just so woefully unwatchable.

I seem to remember recommending GitS to Z2SO4...

So then, does that mean Full Metal Alchemist is shitty? Because, although I haven't been watching the CN run, I did like the show quite a bit. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was one of, if not the best new anime series in the '03-'04 season.

Note that "good portion" != all.  FMA is good, and I enjoy it (otherwise it wouldn't land regularly on my Netflix queue), but it isn't anywhere near what I consider to be the best anime of all time as many others hold it to be.  And I really don't care for the vast majority of stuff that's on the channel, but you also have to consider that such is the nature of a subjective argument.

Haha. Way back, I also recommended he watch s-CRY-ed, because I liked it. And he liked it. But now it just seems like garbage. What's up with that?

Same thing happened with Witch Hunter Robin. I was really into it when it was being fansubbed, but when CN started airing it I couldn't even bear to look.

You're probably a dub hater and just didn't realize it.

But if it makes you feel better, I never could get into Scry-ed, either.  I don't even remember anything about it other than I gave it two eps before I dropped back and punted.  And I never gave WH Robin the first chance...why, I don't know.

Before we ditch the topic of CN, I just want to mention, for the sake of pissing Toe off, that Codename: Kids Next Door is the shittiest thing to ever come out of someones sphincter.  I for one am surprised that CN managed to fit as much cr0n as they did on that turd...

Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy kicks ass though...  You can't change my mind on that one.

I think Grim peaked around the time of Attack of the Clowns and Chocolate Sailor, and it's been on a steady decline ever since. Episodes used to strike a perfect balance between stupid and funny, and lately it's been leaning heavily towards just plain stupid. That's not to say there haven't been a few decent ones recently, but it's way more miss than hit now, in my opinion.

As for being a dub hater, you might be right. I try not to make broad generalizations, but it seems to me like a lot of dub work really does sap the charm out of certain shows.

Take Samurai 7, for example. I stopped watching fansubs as soon it was licensed, because I was really enjoying it and figured it would be a worthy addition to the shelf, but after viewing Funimation's dub I can't for the life of me remember what I liked so much about the show.

If Japanese wasn't both so grating and unfriendly to my casual viewing (i.e., watching over a ham sandwich or while simultaneously reading the newspaper or walking the treadmill), I might watch everything subbed.

Although when I'm watching anime and doing nothing else, I'll still use the English but also run the subs at the same time.  I don't trust my hearing, so that way I can glance down and catch something I might have missed.  I'm just anal that way.

I do the same thing as well.  I also watch live action with close captioning because sometimes I don't always catch what is being said.

Wow, this weeks' CN Naruto was kinda shitty. The acting and editting just keep ruining those dramatic scenes.

If only I could file a restraining order keeping ShoPro/Viz away from all anime/manga.

Eh, I skipped it this week.  Overall, I'm kinda disappointed with it.  Maybe I expected too much from it, considering how much the guys in my Japanese class would deify it.

Narutards are so goddamned annoying.

"OMG!!! NARUTO HAS BEEN SO RUINED BY THE DUB!"

"No, it's a shitty show."

"You wouldn't say that if you saw it in Japanese!"

"I did. It sucks."

"OH MY GOD!"
