I was gonna buy God of War, seeing as I've bought all the previous major releases and Amazon Prime had 20% off the pre-buy. I figured I'd wait until the reviews came in before I jumped on-board, since it's going to be a significant departure from the previous games. Well, I waited too late: Amazon has shown that it's "Currently Unavailable" since last week. From now on I'll pre-buy the friggin' game and cancel it later if necessary. I just don't believe in paying full price on a damned video game that I will be lucky if I play through once. Hell, I'm still in the early goings of Horizon Zero Dawn and haven't played it in over 2 weeks.

Hyrule Warriors on Switch. I never got it on Wii or 3DS because it was on both. I found it really annoying that one platform had stuff that the other one didn't. Much better this way.

Still on Star Trek online.

Plugging away to get dilithium. Then trade that in for zen. Then use that to buy a key to unlock lock boxes to get Lobi crystals, to then use those to buy a ship.

I don't think Picard would approve of that.

I said to heck with it and got God of War anyway. And that's why I've not been around for the last month. Hoyl carp is it good! I'm at the end now, needing to kill the last Valkyrie and finish the last realm's tasks to wrap things up, and then I might play through again for the hell of it. Horizon what, again?

Are you in Starfleet? The mere idea of you having to purchase something seems wrong.

Why yes I am.

They give you ships based on rank for awhile. But they are pretty standard fair...nothing great. All the good ships you have to buy.

Was kinda interested in Omensight but then I found out the ending was shit. Why have a game where you time travel and there's only one ending so all the choices you made were 100% meaningless? Bwuh?

Still star trek, but I also played Fortnite and a game called Hawk3n. Hawk3n is really good. Fortnite is really shitty.

I saw the credits for God of War. At a certain point I just wanted it to be over, so I dropped down into easy mode to completely trivialize the combat, and ignored all the optional content. The story was alright, but I was so checked out by the end that the final reveal just had very little impact on me.

Maybe it's because Greek mythology is so ubiquitous, making everything in the old games instantly recognizable, but I feel like the Norse setting was really underused here. Or maybe misused is the word. Like maybe they spread themselves a little thin with the whole Nine Realms thing. Dark elves are insects? What? Almost as if they were afraid of seeming unoriginal. Enemy variety on the whole was severely lacking.

Or it could just be that what I'm actually doing is comparing a single PS4 game to the 2 PS2, 2 PSP, and 2 PS3 games that came before it, which is hardly fair. I don't know. Maybe my heart just wasn't in it since I'm still all about that MONSTER HUNTER!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Thinking about checking out that 3DS Monster Hunter RPG now.

God damn it.

Enemy repetition was a big issue I had with the game, as well. Older GoW games had that, too, but they weren't as big as this one so it's more of a problem. Fighting ogres and whatnot for the thousandth time sucks, particularly the quick timers. Having more variety with which to dispatch these enemies would have been welcome. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next one, which I assume will be coming before 2020.

While everyone else who has a Switch decided to play Fortnite, I decided Paladins was more my thing. And yeah, I'm enjoying it. I can play against AI all day if I don't want to deal with humans so that's nice. I always liked the idea of hero shooters and haven't had a platform to play Overwatch on yet so this works well enough for me.

I might have tried Overwatch if I had internet that wasn't crap for gaming.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is a DL-only game set in the same realm as the upcoming Kickstarter game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The series is being steered by the producer of the original Castlevania games. Whereas Ritual of the Night will be a Metroidvania-style like Symphony of the Night, this one was inspired by the NES Castlevania games. I haven't played it in a couple weeks, but I need to get back to it as I'm 3/5 of the way through. It's pretty fun, if you like old-school Castlevania.

I bought Sonic Mania last night. Think Sonic 4 for Genesis in 2018.  Sega found some ROM hackers that were doing new level design and other neat things through emulators, and it looked good enough for them to bankroll it for Sonic's 25th anniversary. It's darn good: a very nice homage to the Genesis-era of Sonic games.

And while fooling around with Sonic Mania, I also found the Mega Man Legacy collection on sale in the PSN Store. $18 got me Mega Man 1-10, which I thought wasn't a bad deal at all. Heck, 2 and 3 are worth that alone. The rest is icing. Luckily I had dropped a card on my account back when I first bought the PS4 that I'd forgotten about, so why not blow it on some old-style games?

Picked up Splatoon 2 on sale. Enjoyed the single player stuff, doing the Octo expansion now. I know I'll get wrecked in multiplayer, though, so I might just not do that.

It turns out that I'm still freaking awesome at Mega Man 3. However, it's quite a bit tougher when you don't have that super jump from the original. You could hold down the right directional on controller 2 (I used to hold my toe on it while playing) to have a super jump and invulnerability to pits. Plus, if you ran into an off-top screen enemy, your energy would bottom out but not kill you, making you invulnerable to conventional harm (as in, not hitting spikes or getting crushed) but disabling your main gun. This meant boss fights were supremely easy, unless you had no secondary weapons that worked against them which meant you had to reset the game.

Mega Man 4, however, is a pain in the dick.

I have a fond memory of playing Mega Man all night and drinking Sprite as a kid once. I think it was after I had my one and only seizure, I had to stay up before getting an EKG or something. Went to the Blockbuster, got a 2 liter, and continued to fail at beating Mega Man 2 all fucking night.

Good times.

I never knew about this super-jump thing. That's pretty cool. Too bad there's no way to make it work but I guess it's not surprising.

I decided to go play online in Splatoon 2 after doing the single player stuff (the story parts, not 100% or anything) and I'm definitely not getting past a C+ at best.

Played through most of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on the Switch. I'm not doing all the bonus challenges right now, though. Those can suck a portabellini for now.

Playing Hollow Knight and wanting to get the 107% completion (100% was before DLC). There's a few late challenges including from DLC which are just the biggest pain in the thorax so I'm not sure if I'll give up or not before attempting the end of the game. Really fun, well-made game. Intriguing lore, compelling story that's not spelled out for you. I like it a lot. Definitely a good deal for <$20.

Hollow Knight looks like a nightmare. For me to play, I mean. Especially the, uh, White Palace. I think that's the name of the area. I love the look and feel of the setting and characters tho'. Was fun to watch other people play through it.

The White Palace didn't seem that bad to me, honestly. It's also not required unless you want a specific ending.

It's the late-game bosses that are pissing me off, especially this psuedo-vampire asshole from the DLC called Nightmare King Grimm.
There's also this loser called Zote who is a joke character throughout the game but then you have the option to fight him how he appears to himself in his own mind and it's awful.

I haven't attempted the "final" boss yet because I'd really like to get to 107%.

The game overall is a blast and the lore, setting, and theme are sooo good.

Also, even if you didn't mean it to be, you calling it a nightmare is a fun pun.

I love the music for Grimm. All the music is great.

If you're talking about the Grey Prince Zote thing, that's not his mind, that's Bretta's mind. You're in her house and you use the nail on her shrine to Zote. Granted, it's because she's buying into Zote's lies about himself but still.

That actually makes sense since each time you win it affects her opinion of him. Shit, you know more about parts of the game than I do. How much have you watched someone play this?
