Varmint maybe...no, that's a small pest like animals.

If you do a Google image search on "varmint" you get shitloads of hunters, guns, and dead-things.  They has no love.

I finished up Sons of Anarchy.  What's Breaking Bad about?  Don't shuttle me over to Wikipedia either.

It's about a loser public school chem teacher who gets lung cancer and decides to start cooking meth with one of his former students so that he can make enough money to leave his family financially secure when he inevitably buys the farm.

And the main character is the dad from Malcolm in the Middle.

I've only watched the first season, but it was pretty damn good.

*Google*  FIVE seasons long?  That doesn't sound like a five-season plot to me.

My description is basically the setup of the first episode. Stuff develops from there.

It would be like if you were asking what Lost was about, and I said a bunch of people crash land on a tropical island, and you were like, "What? Boo!"

But I understand where you're coming from. It's unreasonable to expect everyone to be able to watch everything that could be considered remotely "good". It's far easier to just dismiss the shows you hear about from other people and stick with the ones you come across yourself.

I would probably amend that last statement as to dismiss shows that don't have a hook for you, but not to just stick to ones you come across yourself.  I watched Sons of Anarchy because that outlaw biker shit interests me.  A dying school teacher family man making quick bank from drugs has less of that immediate draw.  For ME anyway.

A slight edit and this is actually scarily accurate.

Haha. Bad example.

I'm obviously doing an awful job selling you on Breaking Bad, because I don't want to give it all away, but the protagonist runs up against all kinds of horrible shit and it turns him into a complete badass.

And I think that's what people like most about the show.

Then again, as I said before, I've only seen the first season, but I imagine it continues down that path for the duration.

I like to tell people it's a Lex Luthor-ish super villain origin story. The main character's name is Walter White but when he "breaks bad" he calls himself Heisenberg. He wears a variation of the same outfit in every episode, a green shirt and kaki pants. He's also a mad scientist like Lex Luthor. Through out the show he uses his knowledge of chemistry to kill a people and dispose of their bodies. Only thing he's missing is his own personal Superman but it looks like his super cop bother-in-law might take that role.

If he does, he'd indeed be a bother.  :)  Do you watch this on TV or on the internet?  Or DVD?

I'm watching Lavell Crawford's stand up special "Can a Brother." and this guy is really funny. Never seen any of his stand up before, but I'm enjoying what I'm seeing.

So I started rewatching all of Star Trek the Next Generation only to learn a friend of mine just started doing the exact same thing.  Great show, but a little rough around the edges.  It's kind of funny to me that when it was on some people liked it more than the original series because it was newer, the effects were better and stuff.  But now 1987 is further away than 1966 was from 1987, so The Next Generation is more data today than the original series was when it started playing, so it doesn't have that edge anymore.

I always liked Deep Space Nine more than TNG but it's hard to ignore that DS9 turned out to be a Babylon 5 with better actors and a bigger effects budget.

I prefer original series and TNG to later series because of what they were, though I can appreciate that different people like the different shows for their own reasons.

To me Star Trek was always the crew being presented witha unique sci fi situation every week, and a story showing the interesting implicatins of dealing it.  Anything from a planet where women were alphas, cowboy planet, drunk virus, people becoming insubstantial, evil mirror world, whatever.  In later series, starting with DS9, they went away from this formula, concentrating more of an overreaching arc that dealt with more issues like space diplomacy and interactions of various cultures with each other.  It's interesting, it's just ... not classic Trek to me.  Some of the most popular TNG episodes do this, like almost all the Borg stuff for example, so obviously it was a good formula.  Simlarly the movies ar emore like this, since you can't really have a movie that's just about some sci fi thing and they just deal with it.  It's a format that works better for TV.

The problem of the week formula is cool sometimes but when the viewer solves the problem before the characters it gets to be really annoying and that's what turns me off about TNG.

Merla's been watching a lot of Voyager.  She says it has a lot of downer episodes.  She's also begun DS9 since it's on Netflix now.

Indeed, Now I just hope some one at Warners has the wisdom to release the complete series on Bluray.

And, yes, my fellow Breaking Badders, the season 4 finale was fucking awesome! Shame on you if you missed it!

I went ahead and saw some more of Wolverine and the X-Men on Netflix streaming since it's available there now.  WOW.  Just really, really awful.  Bleh.  And Steven Blum has an awesome voice.  He should've been nothing less than a sexy Wolverine.  But someone apparently told him to play Wolverine like he's constantly gargling with Scope.  What the fuck happened?  I have the feeling this show should've been good somehow and someone really fucked it up.  The designs really don't help.  In the episode I saw, Scarlet Witch's waist is like 2".  Jean with that hairstyle doesn't work.  Also, I'm sick of Goth Rogue.  That was edgy in X-Men Evolution, which was supposed to be new take on this shit so it was interesting back then.  And it worked for the movie, too.  Okay, Anna Paquin is gothy Rogue.  Fine.  But it's old now.  Can we drop Goth Rogue?  I miss that happy chick in the yellow and green tights?  Remember her?

I have a dark, sinking feeling this is Clay's last season.

I didn't care about watching the show until I saw not only was Ron Perlman in it, but he's the BAWSS.

I don't see them killing Clay this soon.  This show needs him, Gemma, and Jax.  Everyone else is far more expendable.  I could see him dying at the end of the series though.  And Tig consoles the lonely widow.  Unless she has a heartattack after Clay dies.  It could happen.
