Legends of Tomorrow had a Christmas special starring the adorable stuffed animal Beebo which once rained terror on the Earth.

Cowboy Bebop is fine, I guess. New Flash season has Despero in it, and I just can't help but love that they chose to bring that weirdo in to the show. Batwoman turned Poison Ivy into some kind of infection? The fuck?

Randomly decided to watch The Owl House and ended up binging it. It's a kids cartoon but it has some charm to it. Some of the monster design is incredibly cool, like a dragon that's made up of a bunch of hands.

I saw some of The Owl House a while back and it's decent. However, I found the whole magic school angle to be boring. I guess because ultimately nothing new is being done with it. I don't mind magic schools in stories but a lot of them feel very much like "Harry Potter did it so here's a magic school." And I'm, like, "yeah, HP, did it. Now what are YOU going to do with it?"

I think the show would've been more interesting to just have Eda teach Luz magic and then watch of what the latter makes of her half-assed lessons. And even have the latter befriend the same group of friends and have them cobble together lessons to exciting results.  After the first season, my interest was gone.

Owl House is one of those shows where my desire to enjoy it is far greater than my actual ability to do so. Like, it has practically everything going for it, but it just doesn't hit quite right.

I've read that it's canceled, and while that certainly means no Season 3, I wonder if the second half of Season 2 is also off the table now.

Almost done watching Arcane and it's pretty good. It could do with 90% less Imagine Dragons and the opening sequence feels lazy and literally makes me cringe (but, hey, it's skippable). And even though it's in service to the overall story, Jayce and his shit feels like it's sucking time out of the more interesting narratives. But overall the show is solid.

I've been watching that Wheel of Time thing on Amazon Prime. It's so fucking weird.

How can a show seem both expensive and cheap at the same time? I don't know. But Wheel of Time does.

There was a medium-scale fight scene in a recent episode, and I swear to God it just looked like somebody recorded their LARP group. I suppose technically that's precisely what it is, but I shouldn't be thinking about that as the viewer, right?

Speaking of, there was an actual LARP scene in an episode of Hawkeye, and it was great! That's a great show!

There is a season 3, which was announced as 3 specials that are coming out next year. That's still happening but that's the end.

Hawkeye is really fun. Good show. The LARP was indeed good fun.

Finished up Arcane. I really liked it. That said, I don't think I'll be re-watching it ever again aside from clips here and there. But a solid piece of work. I'll be waiting for more on drop day. Whenever that may be. 2023? I think I'd prefer they plan a season (or multiple seasons) but steadily produce an episode or two and then release those every few months. Like, I'd rather get two episodes in 2023 and four in 2024 than six episodes in 2024. That sort of thing. But who knows? Netflix's interface claims this is the most positively rated show they have so just throw sacks of money on it. I think it'd be kind of nuts to get a show with this type of positive audience reception and only order six more episodes instead of at least twelve to eighteen.

I tried Centaurworld... ergh. At least it's something creative and different. Way too wacky for my taste. I couldn't get through the first episode. I skipped to the very last episode instead and nothing of value was lost. The villain was kind of cool. (I saw a YouTube vid about the villain which is the only reason I saw the last ep.) It never makes sense to me when a tertiary character just deals with the bad guy. Also, it's always cheap when a show takes a character and is all "They're dead! EVERYONE GET SAD. :( No, wait. Not dead. :) Ha ha." But, meh, whatever.

Also tried a donghua available on Netflix: Scissor Seven. Also couldn't get past ep one. Again, too fucking wacky. Not Centaurworld wacky but just as off-putting imo. I just don't find this type of humor funny.

Speaking of Wheel of Time, I've been watching stuff about it online. Yeah, it looks cheap as hell. The sets look cheap, the costumes look cheap, and even the lighting is shitty! How do you make Hercules and Xena look high budget? What an ugly-ass show.

Watched Toast of London. Been on a Matt Berry kick lately. So fucking weird! Makes me wonder if most British sitcoms are similarly absurdist and surreal these days.

Sometimes you guys mention watching stuff and I've never seen it but I've at least heard of it. I can safely say I've never heard of this man or this show before. I attribute this to me seeing "What We Do in the Shadows" (the film) and not liking it enough to even touch the series.

It's his voice. It's almost hypnotic. I'm trying to think of where you might have heard him.

Various commercial voiceovers, possibly. He was Prince Merkimer in Disenchantment, not sure if you ever looked at that.

Back when they announced that John Cena's character from the then upcoming new Suicide Squad movie would be getting his own series, I was like, "But fucking why?!"

I now know why.

I wish the squatty potty wasn't so ugly. I just use a basket from Target. Turn it upside down and put my feet on top of it.

I also feel uncomfortable that he was feeding those to children. Like some pedo was "safely" living out his scat fetish.  :raiseeyebrow:

He was an asshole, but he took pride in that.

I don't keep up with many, primarily those who came to BONR. But BONR is more or less dead now, so it's once in a blue moon. I have a few on the old FB list.

The Halo TV show is pretty rough two episodes in.

Legends of Tomorrow introduced Donald Faison as Booster Gold. I'm shocked and excited for next season.

I have not finished the season of Batwoman and not sure I will at this point but I probably will eventually. I do want to finish Superman and Lois, still enjoying that.

Picard season 2 feels better than season 1 so far. Halfway through Discovery season 4, watching with the wife and she just wasn't feeling TV in general while it was airing, and then Picard started so we jumped ship to that for now and will pick it up later. Discovery feels better this season but there's still something about it that doesn't fulfill what I want out of it. Maybe Strange New Worlds will do it.

Kind of fell off Battle Kitty. I'll probably still finish it, but the shock value of its surreal humor got stale relatively quickly.

I've all but stopped watching television at this point. I don't have time. Heck, I barely watch anime anymore. Heck, I barely play video games anymore. What am I doing with my life?! :P

Ha, pretty much me.  Although YouTube's pissing me off.  New things are getting "broken" every time they do updates.  Lately, I have to be careful about searching for videos in the mobile app.  I searched a perfectly family-friendly video game and got some unrelated sexual content in my results.  Then, the other night, I searched "Three Hopes," the musou sequel/prequel/midquel of Fire Emblem Three Houses.  I had a bunch of relevant results and then suddenly dead kids.  As in the shooting victims in Uvalde.  Not, like, pictures of them dead or anything but just news video after news video about the shooting and people crying and people ranting about guns.  This stuff is nowhere near my feed but Youtube just threw it into my search.  What the fuck.  If I want that type of news, I'll look for it myself.  I felt kinda violated.  I don't invite that type of news into my personal space.  Like YouTube knew I was searching for the Fire Emblem game.  It stores my data, it knows I look up Fire Emblem content all the time.  And it's like it decided I needed to have "real news" too or whatever.  Really pissed me off tbh.  I think this is a sign I need to pull back on YouTube.

When I was casting from my phone the other day but still browsing through YouTube, the current video in the queue would appear in a bar in the middle of my phone screen. As opposed to being a small bar at the bottom. It was weird. And YT got rid of my controls when my phone's locked or I'm in another app. So now I have to go back into the app proper if I need to pause it. If my phone's locked, I have to unlock it in order to access YT to pause a video. It's stupid.

Well, Youtube IS owned by Google. Their hallmark is buying perfectly good things, adding features to them despite being feature-complete, screwing them up, and letting them break before eventually removing them and disavowing their existence. I'm amazed they haven't replaced it wholesale with something worse three times already.

I watched the first episode of Ms. Marvel on Disney+. I can concede that I'm probably not the target audience for it, but it really didn't do anything for me at all. Everything that happens is so hokey, and the main character's "I'm so extra!" attitude is really grating.

I think I might just be too old and white and male to enjoy it.

No! It's not because I'm a decrepit racist misogynist! I truly believe the first episode is just kind of crap.

I knew there was a reason we nicknamed you "Racist Joe." :joe:

Ha ha, I kid.  It's probably terrible.  But I don't get any enjoyment from cape stuff anymore so I'm, like, super-biased.

You reminded me: I was watching a YT vid the other day about why The Lion King (the newish one) is a piece of festering garbage and Schmoo walked in the room.  And the first thing she said after I explained what I was watching, was "Oh?  He's (the youtuber) racist?"  And I was all "How does that make him racist?  Non-white people can be in terrible, shitty productions, too.  It's not a white-exclusive thing.  What does color have to do with being in a bad, absolutely needless, nostalgia-milking movie?"  I like Chiwetel Ejiofor; he's probably the only main actor in that movie where I like him in other material.  But he's so damn stiff and his "Be Prepared" is open-mic poetry night tier.  It's legit gross.  John Oliver and Seth Rogan aren't poc and they're just as awful.  Maybe she forgot there are white people in the movie.
