I could see how someone would reach that implication from the post tho'. Especially given her other content. I also think Lucasfilm/Disney might've been laying into her already. If they're to be believed, some industry insider apparently told The Hollywood Reporter that Lucasfilm or whoever was looking for an excuse to get rid of Gina since her November tweets.

So... just write her out of the show and don't ask her to come back maybe? Is that still a thing? It's equally as bad as canning someone for their beliefs alone but at least it's not a whole brouhaha over a hashtag and has some dignity to it.

Not really on that topic but this is why Disney needs to not be afraid of killing off characters. All of these damn brands want to keep waaaay too many characters alive for their IP. But if you give them an arc and kill them off, you would literally almost never run into this problem unless it was a major character. And, in the meantime, these companies want to basically own the actual actors. They're people with their own life experiences and beliefs. Stop locking them into these multiyear contracts when you want to police their lives. Let the court of public opinion do its own thing and keep your nose out of it as a employer.

I'm just going to keep withholding money from these people. I don't need Stizzle Wizzles in my life and certainly don't need to pay for it.

I watched the first episode of Superman and Lois. I actually enjoyed it.

Been watching that Resident Alien show, too. It's so weird to me that it even exists, but it's kinda good.

Derek from Teen Wolf is Superman. That's interesting. And Supes and Lois are already a couple. Double interesting. Probably won't watch because Arrowverse and I know nothing about it. But cool none the less.

Did that alien show add the boy that can see the alien? I looked up a synop and it looks like the native woman is the one who sees him. Wikipedia also says she's Mohawk but Mohawk people aren't from the part of the continent this takes place in. I mean, she could've moved, I guess. But past experience tells me the portrayal likely isn't that nuanced.

So far only the little boy can see that he's an alien. They've now agreed to a truce, but previously the kid was trying to expose the alien, and the alien was unsuccessfully trying to murder the kid.

I think I read somewhere that the Superman show is trying to be its own thing, so I don't know how much Arrowverse stuff will turn up. I haven't really watched any of that, so if it becomes required viewing at some point I'll be completely lost.

The Superman and Lois show is completely in continuity with the Arrowverse. It's a spin-off of Supergirl which is apparently canceled and has a half-season left to run later this year.

That said, I am completely uninterested. Flash has been less interesting every season, and while Legends was consistently entertaining it always takes a lot for me to want to pick it up again after every hiatus. I never got into Supergirl, and I swore off Arrow after I had enough of their political pandering horse shit. So I'm more or less done with Arrowverse at this point.

The Superman and Lois show is completely in continuity with the Arrowverse. It's a spin-off of Supergirl which is apparently canceled and has a half-season left to run later this year.

Superman and Lois meanwhile has been renewed for a second season already. I kind of wonder if they might intentionally be keeping the Arrowverse stuff light on the show to give it more longevity if the other Arrowverse shows disappear. They're not all gone yet, though. And I also wouldn't be surprised to see cameos from Supergirl still, even after the other show is over.

I've really been enjoying Superman and Lois. It's a nice change of pace compared to many superhero shows. Closest in theme might be Black Lightning (superhero dad with superpowered kids) but there's a lot of other themes there that likely won't be here, and the farm town feel sets it apart from that as well as the fact that Supes deals with global issues, not local issues. I'm annoyed that it's still Luthor (but not "Luthor").

New Flash season started off with seemingly removing the possibility of one of the best major "recurring" characters from coming back. Maybe an important evolution for Barry but sucks a bit for the show. Plus Team Flash is completely different than what it originally was at this point, no Cisco, no Caitlin. It's comic books though, so I could be wrong and the actor is said to still have a return (maybe as the other character they've played).

I haven't been able to work up energy to watch the new season of Black Lightning. Knowing it's over this season hurts my interest, even though I know Arrow and Flash have suffered from being on for so long. Maybe it's a good thing for this and for Supergirl.

Wandavision meanwhile has been quite fun. Little bit of the "mindfuckery" aspect that I often enjoy in shows, little bit of referencing the rest of the MCU, little bit of bringing in stuff from the comics that haven't been used in the movies yet. But it seems that it's mainly a show about trauma and what happens when a superhero can't deal with theirs. Good first start for the MCU TV shows.

Rewatching The Muppet Show. I had forgotten about some of the rougher stuff (even in episodes that don't have the warnings on D+). It's still extremely fun and I'll always love the Muppets.

Also still rewatching Batman TAS and Cowboy Bebop but only like one episode or less a week at most for a bit.

I've also been watching a dumb YouTube show called Um, Actually that's a game show about nerds correcting things and while that concept might sound exhausting I've regularly enjoyed it because I guess I'm a nerd.

Watched first two eps of Jupiter's Legacy. It's okay? I'm not sure where this one is going yet. Didn't read the comics.

The Muppet Show episode with Victor Borge was one of the best, and was one of the first times I saw a guest on there that I was unfamiliar with and decided to seek out their work outside of the show. Very funny guy.

Flash is making some weird decisions this season. I'm thinking season 8 will be the last. Probably for the best if so.

Invincible was incredible but I couldn't deal with a few scenes (in particular, the "train" scene). Very gory. Fantastic story, really, and the great casting certainly helped. Animation was a bit weird at times but the acting carried the show in a lot of ways.

Finished rewatching Cowboy Bebop. I forgot that I hate how the show ends. Still, such a good show.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had a lot of pro-imperialist propaganda but was still very fun action. The character set up as the villain does not feel like a villain at all, and the psuedo-anti-hero on the side felt like a villain but ends up sort of redeemed at the end. Plus they killed one of the longest running characters in the MCU that wasn't a hero or ally of a hero and that kind of sucks in a weird way. And the true villain of the show was NOT Arnim Zola, which is significantly bullshit.

My understanding is the Grant Gustin is getting antsy about leaving, so I think your timeline will pan out.

Superman and Lois continues to be great. Legends is still fun. Loki's been alright so far. Bad Batch has been fun but seems to be a vehicle to go "look a this character that was in that other thing as well!"

The thing about the Loki show that I've noticed is that all the entertainment bloggers aren't blowing its horn nearly as loudly as they did for Wanda, or even Falcon.

Is it general fatigue, or is Loki just not what people expected it to be?

Holy shit, did any of you watch that MODOK show? I can't even believe how awful it is. Just absolute garbage.

I want to say fatigue. But I'm probably wrong because I thought we reached peak saturation on all this cape shit years ago. Yet here we are.

I watched the entire season. It's not very noteworthy but I'm still surprised Marvel even allowed it to exist, for multiple reasons. I didn't think "garbage," I just thought "this would have been better as a few robot chicken sketches."

I just cannot get myself to finish CW DC shows but I think that has more to do with depression I'm dealing with than anything. These seasons aren't particularly worse or better than most of the others. Superman and Lois has been genuinely good (probably because HBO apparently produced it) but I just can't get myself to watch the last two episodes. Eventually.

Watched St*r WarzzZZ: The Dad Batch. I couldn't recommend this to anyone who wasn't already a fan of Clone Wars and Rebels but I had a fun time with it.

I liked how Loki ended. I'm surprised I'm not fatigued by this universe yet but I personally am enjoying the TV shows more than I've enjoyed the last few movies. Really looking forward to She-Hulk.

What If's first two episodes were just fine and there's a lot of questions that won't be answered by the format, so just kind of have to accept that and ride it, I guess.

Might have been overly harsh about M.O.D.O.K. The the thing is, there were supposed to have been a handful of Marvel shows that came out of that Hulu deal, but M.O.D.O.K. was the only one that survived, so I figured, "Hey, they must have really struck gold here or something!"

And it was a just a whole lot of middle-of-the-road Robot Chicken humor, as you mentioned.

There's something off-putting about What If...? Did any of you ever play any of Telltale's "choose your own adventure"-style games? It looks like those, only more expensive. But not TOO expensive, Disney clearly gave a modest budget to this show.

Anyway, we're only two episodes in, so it definitely has time to improve, but so far it just comes across so... hokey? Like having The Watcher's narration pop in intermittently to summarize things they couldn't just show us due to time constraints is annoying more than anything. And the overabundance of flippant character dialogue is borderline nauseating.

Maybe more than anything I'm ticked off that they're (understandably) trapped within the confines of the MCU, whereas the What If...? comic book encompassed the entirety of Marvel Comics' history, so they were always able to go really batshit with it. We're stuck with crap setups like, "What if Killmonger met Tony Stark herp derp?!"

I know from the trailers that we're getting Zombies, that might be the zaniest place they go. It does seem like it's mostly going to be "what if this character was in this other character's situation instead!" Which can be interesting but isn't as fun as it could be.

Hulu also got Helstrom, a property I know nothing about and was cancelled after one season but it did at least get there.

Marvel's What If really never got past "this is fine" or "this is fun." Hard to call it good, exactly. I don't even think this is required viewing for MCU fans, maybe a couple of the episodes but meh.

Back in on all the DC shows. Titans has improved over last season, though Scarecrow as the villain feels off. Supergirl is ending but like most of its seasons, I'm not sure how much I actually like it. Stargirl is a surprise for me. The first season was mostly a fun romp and had good action. The second season is much darker. It's been good. Joel McHale does not sell being a superhero at all, though. It does have a version of Jade (OG Green Lantern's kid) and GL stuff was the comics I have the most nostalgia for, so loving that. Batwoman S3 just started, the first episode seems like an improvement at least. Legends also just started again, and I'm going to love it because I always do.

Doom Patrol continues to be my favorite thing. Though I worry a bit that some of the characters are becoming circular in their development. Things they seemingly "fixed" are coming back around. I guess that's how actual people are as well but I want it to work differently for characters in shows, especially ones this strange.

And in reflecting on these, I realize that I think most of the DC shows I enjoy the most work because they focus a lot on emotional trauma. Doom Patrol definitely but also Stargirl and Titans seem to work when they're exploring how fucked some of the stuff they're experiencing really is. Even the Arrrowverse shows do this but they approach it a bit differently, I think, and are always going to be a bit more zany.

My wife started watching Poirot with David Suchet, and while I'm not watching every episode intently, it really is a nice show.

What If...? is strictly middle-of-the-road. The Dr. Strange one was the standout for me. Hated how they wrapped it all up with a two-part alternate Infinity War that encompassed all the characters and events from the entire season. Like, what the fuck.

I can appreciate your devotion to Greg Berlanti, but I could never take on all of that. Especially not this far in. I'll just stick to Titans and Doom Patrol. Although, Titans is getting really fucking schlocky, holy shit.

I love Poirot. It really makes murder comfy. For lack of better terminology. But damn, the later eps feel like a slog. I never got to the end nor was I ever motivated to. (I know how it ends but I never felt like watching it.)

If she's so inclined, Mrs. Fiero might also like Marple. It's the inferior between the two but scratches the itch for more Agatha Christie cozyness.

Also in line with the above in terms of feel for me, Sherlock Hound, believe it or not. But the cozyness of that one is probably more due to Miyazaki directing it. No murder that I recall but just good ol' "cartoon character solves mysteries" stuff.

Miyazaki directed sherlock dog detective? I'm IN.

I think she's looked at Misses Marple before, not sure if she's tried any of it. It's also Agatha Christie, IIRC, so wouldn't be surprised if she enjoys.

She's also enjoyed Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, also a pretty good show.

Some recent news came out about why Ruby Rose left Batwoman and it's pretty fucking disappointing. I imagine there's been issues on other Berlanti shows as well and it's not like it's uncommon to hear this shit about other TV shows but you never want it to be one you've enjoyed any part of, you know? Not that Batwoman is that great of a show, I have to imagine this has something to do with why. I wanted it to be good, though.

The HBO DC shows really are superior to the Berlanti CW shows, and that honestly includes Stargirl (it started there, though season 2 is air on CW first). Superman and Lois has also been better than the rest of the CW DC shows as well but I believe it has somewhat different funding and production backing.

I mean, they're all Berlanti, right? Titans and Doom Patrol both have the end credits animated logo where it's the family sitting around the TV and then the dad says something like, "Greg, move your fucking head!"

I tried Miss Fisher and really wanted to like it but... eh... I recall it being a teeny bit racist.  It's been so long that I don't remember what the specific issues were.  Not that we don't see racism in Agatha Christie's work.  But whatever it was, I just stopped watching and left it at that. I also recall trying Rosemary & Thyme. That one wasn't awful or anything but I wasn't inclined to continue after a few episodes. Midsomer Murders and Foyle's War get recommended a lot but I've never tried either one of them.  (Of if I have, I don't recall.)  Maigret is also supposed to be good but got canned after, like, four episodes.

I recommended "Marple" specifically because that's the one I've seen. There's also an older series "Miss Marple" that I recall seeing an episode of but I couldn't get into it. That said, I think "Miss Marple" is supposed to be more faithful version and while "Marple" took some major story liberties. So if your wife has read the stories before, that might be a turn-off to watching the "Marple" series. But "Marple" was made by the same people behind "Poirot" so I like it because of the similar look and feel.

It's supposed to be Runaway Brain, maybe you've seen it before. There was a really good article about it at Polygon recently:

https://www.polygon.com/features/22738384/runaway-brain-evil-mickey-short-streaming

It seems vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure that I had actually ever watched it back in the day.

Yeah, it's all technically Berlanti. But there's definitely a significant difference between the ones originally from HBO and the ones originally from CW. Superman and Lois might fall closer to the first camp but I understand it has better funding.

Can I just say about that Superman and Lois show, the early episodes seemed very promising, and then the plot does this hard pivot into Clark's evil Kryptonian half-brother infusing Kryptonian consciousnesses into Smallville's residents, effectively making them Kryptonian... and also evil?

Like, whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Plus the whole Lex Luthor, but no wait actually it's John Henry Irons cosplaying as Master Chief thing. Ugh!

Kinda lost me.

You're not wrong that all of that did feel weird. I did think the show was going to be a bit more grounded at the start but it certainly proved me wrong. Should superhero shows really ever be that grounded, though?

Doom Patrol in season 3 has been good. Season 1 is still hard to match but Michelle Gomez has been great. At the very least, it's still about the best level of weird.

I had to know how a Scottish woman came to have the surname "Gomez", but apparently her father is of Portuguese descent, so that checks out!

Now for the next mystery: how a Portuguese person got a Spanish surname since Portuguese "Gomez" is actually "Gomes."

Um, ignore that I have a Portuguese term as a Spanish surname myself.

Also ignore that my paternal grandfather was supposedly adopted by family members and used their surname.

Also ignore the geographic locations of Spain and Portugal.

Also, ignore this post.
