I don't think the live-action counterparts look bad, but why didn't they bite the bullet and make the guys that were blond blond? Even with a shitty wig or something? It just would have looked better visually.

The Crisis on Earth-X starts tonight on the CW DC shows. Supergirl and Arrow are on tonight, with Flash and Legends closing it tomorrow. Starts in 10 minutes.

Well Tamaki was "strawberry blonde" in the live series, so theres that. No blue/purple eyes tho. I think they did it to appeal more to the japanese public. I guess its the same reason Winry has brown hair in the FMA live action movie. (Hawkeye is still blonde tho ).
Series were terrible but the Ouran live action movie was actually fun. They used stuff from the manga that they didnt put in the anime, oh and Tamaki is much blonder in it

Also the "tall" girl from AKB48 is in it too.

Looked at pics for the movie and, yeah, that looks much, much better. That shade of pukey, almost orange-brown that gets used a lot in live-action Japanese stuff to be a stand-in for blond or lighter colored hair is just cringey.

I've been watching Call the Midwife with my wife. It's a fucking tear jerker.

Also been enjoying Marvel's Runaways way more than I thought I would. Also binged and caught up on Flash and Legends of Tomorrow earlier this year. I can't bring myself to do the same with Arrow, though. Where the other two don't seem to take themselves too seriously, Arrow just seems to not fit in to me, even if it's sort of the anchor of the universe. I'll probably catch up on Supergirl eventually but I'm not super into it.

Don't remember if I've been here since Twin Peaks season 3. It's flawed but I still enjoyed most of it. I can't disagree with some of the show's most vocal critics, especially around misogyny and the possibility that Lynch actually has no fucking clue where he was going with it. It got somewhere but it sure was bumpy for a bit.

I also like the new Star Trek but it's definitely got something about it that doesn't feel Star Trek while also having things that do.

BoJack fucking Horseman may be my favorite thing I've watched this year. Especially the episode where he's underwater (lol sea horse) and no one speaks audibly and clearly for the entire episode.

Also really liked the Magicians. Looking forward to season 2 this year.

Guilty pleasure of the year was the Shannarah Chronicles. This show is shit but I enjoyed every fucking second. Absolutely shit, though.

Things I still have on my to-do list: Black Mirror, The Orville, Rick and Morty (just to find out if my IQ is high enough), Dark, American Gods and a fuck-load of other stuff I don't feel like thinking about right now.

I watched some of the new Queer Eye on Netflix. Basically a brand new series of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Fab Five these guys are not. The only clever thing I saw in the whole episode I watched was a line cribbed from Kyan (one of the original Fave Five). The guy in charge of grooming needs to take care of himself before he gives others tips. They are all also too touchy feely. The original Queer Eye dudes were friendly but respected personal boundaries for the most part. In this new Queer Eye, it's all about making the dude uncomfortable by getting too close to him, grabbing him, touching him, talking about his body. Basically, every one of the five are Carsons when we only needed one Carson. Also, I don't like the cover of the opening song. It's not a horrible show or anything but the OG Queer Eye still best Queer Eye.

Kyan was the hot grooming/hair guy. I think Ted was the glasses guy and he was the food one, too. Or was he the decor one? Oh, shoot. I'm trying to remember without doing a Google cheat. And it's more like a new show than a new season. There's a completely different set of five and I can't really say I have any favorites among them.

I liked how you posted this in FUCKING REBOOTS because fuck this reboot but also fuck this Reboot and also fuck this reboot of Reboot. It works on so many different levels.

I guess after new Voltron and now this Netflix, is on a roll. They can make my life complete now with a new Xena Warrior Princess show. Xena will be a hot, air-headed piece of jailbait and it'll take place in a posh highschool. Think Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson meets Saved by the Bell meets Fresh Prince of Bel-Air meets Clueless. Being a teenager isn't easy, yo! Especially when you gots to save the world in time and made it back to class in time for Heronomics 101.

JJ 2 was a little iffy for me in the middle, but overall I'd call it more consistent than the first season. Netflix's Marvel shows typically shit themselves in the second half, but this and Punisher managed to avoid that in my mind.

Did you watch Luke Cage? Awesome premise, and then it just devolves into absolute schlock. Iron Fist was bland from start to finish, and Defenders was an unmitigated disaster. And I know having them all come together as a team was always the plan from the very beginning, but they could have skipped that shit altogether and nothing of value would have been lost.

They've said straight up that there won't be a second Defenders, so at least we're on the same page there.

I wonder if Rosario Dawson will just end up a fixture on a single show, or if she'll chell out after this. She wasn't in this new one. In fact, they don't allude to any of the other shows here, other than Daredevil's buddy showing up for all of five seconds. Wait. Carrie-Anne Moss does mention "Rand" at one point, but it's completely throwaway dialogue.

I kinda liked Luke Cage right up to the last like 3-4 episode and it just descended into shit. Iron Fist was all kinds of Meh and Defenders was a real WTF. But Punisher was five kinds of awesome. And Yeah I was expecting Dawson in Punisher and JJ2 as she was the connective tissue of these shows the first go around, but nope. I think maybe she doesn't want to do it anymore or maybe not for the money they want to give her.

Jessica Jones season 2 is definitely not as good as the first season. They had such an incredible villain in the first season that I doubt there's much that they could have used for season 2 that would have reached that bar. I don't know much about Jessica Jones lore but I have to imagine there was something else in there that would have worked better. I haven't quite finished it, the first half was really meh and the second half is at least getting a bit more interesting but it's so far behind the first season.

Seeing the Whizzer and then realizing he was based on an old-school superhero was awesome, though. Him having a pet weasel was a nice touch (I bet they've done that in the comics as well but I still liked it).

I think Whizzer is also Speed Demon...or Speed Demon is an evil Whizzer, I'm not 100% sure on that other then Speed Demon ended up being a Spider-Man bad guy.

And they did have a great villain..which is why they shouldn't have...

I watched this thing on Netflix that's a bunch of stand up specials. A bunch were hit and miss but there were a few genuinely funny folks here and there. I also re-watched a bunch of George Carlin's material. I was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of them on Amazon Prime of all places. Also watched Wakfu Season 3 and some British show where homeowners attempt to sell their home but they're given $1000 British dollardoos to try and fix it up so they have the best chance to win over the potential buyer. I was cracking up when this one filthy man used the money to have his place professionally cleaned, was all "this is so nice," and then he decided not to sell his home after all.
