I can't stand all the squeeing fan girls that guy has.
THANK.
YOU.
Hmm, there's no option for theater.
The Intergalactic Nemesis...
...is a stage show that's a mix of a live or voice acted graphic novel, and a radio show. So they take this graphic novel, project the panels on a screen filling the entire rear of the stage (minus speech bubbles), have voice actors on stage voice the characters, a Foley artist (a sound effects artist, creating sound effects with everyday objects), and background music provided by a piano and synthesizer. So the play SOUNDS like an old radio show, but has the visual effect of the graphic novel panels.
I did enjoy the play. I found the thing did drag on a bit at around 2 hours long (with an intermission). Plus, the play really milked the 1930s space drama tropes to the max, with stereotypical characters and way too many over-the-top sudden twists (with the accompanying dramatic music)... stuff like "I'm not really a janitor, I'm a robot from the FUTURE! *cue dramatic music*". I know they did it on purpose though to get that authentic 1930s feel. I'll give the play props for having a strong female lead, something you'd never see in the 30s. Plus, there were parts where, because of character's accents, or characters talking too fast, or multiple characters talking, I'd have no idea what was just said.
The most interesting part was the sound effects being made in real time. Sound effects in Hollywood are made by a Foley artist who uses ordinary objects to make the sounds you hear in a movie, but in this case the sounds were actually being made by the objects on the stage, rather than being pre-recorded. It was fun to watch the various objects employed.
One of the things I wondered was whether the graphic novel was really a 30s comic or created specially for the show, but it appears to be a comic created specifically for the stage show. They're in the process of creating two other shows, and I'd love to see those as well. I rather enjoyed the show, even if it was a bit too long.
The first 15 minutes of the playThe cast on ConanIron Giant
I had only seen bits and pieces of this, and all I knew it was about a boy and his giant robot. Then I sat down and watched it. I didn't realize it got all action packed and war of the worlds at the end. Both action and feels from the same movie? A giant robo going up against 1950's American military hardware? Better movie than I expected. But who the hell names their kid Hogarth?
I've also seen Superman, Star Trek, and Iron Man 3 and may put my thoughts on those into words later.
