ok with "me"

Damn I keep leaving out 2 and 3 letter words from sentences I type.  I'm convinced it's all the drugs I've done.

Last Man Standing.

Just another remake of Yojimbo starring Bruce Willis. At least this one gave credit to Kurosawa, unlike Fist Full of Dollars.

I like Fist Full of Dollars, but I like For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly a tiny bit more. You know, I haven't seen Yojimbo. No idea why. Seven Samurai, either.

...I got to learn some lantern lore which was fun

They might as well have called it "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps", since that's where most of it came from.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

You should see both, they are both good. Yojimbo makes my top 20 all time fav. movies easy.

I liked A Fistful of Dollars best, but mainly cause it is a faithful to Yojimbo. The thing that bugs me with For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is that Lee Van Cleef plays almost the same guy in both movies. Sure one if good and out to avenge his sister, were as the other is just in it for the money, but both are pretty much the same and then when it is played by the same actor the same way...it is just odd. I'd actually say that The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is my least favorite of the three.

Saw the actual lantern movie.  It was just ok...it definitely wasn't worth the 300 mil it cost to make.   When you go big like that you gotta deliver an Iron Man quality movie.

Dark of the Moon!

Too long. But it was entertaining.

I saw it in IMAX 3D, and the ticket cost $15.25...

The picture was definitely a lot clearer than regular 3D, but I don't know that I needed the 3D at all.

If you have the option, I'd say see the vanilla version, as in no 3D. But I'm admittedly anti-3D.

Oh, it was about these transforming robots, in case anyone was wondering.

Speaking of robots, I saw the new trailer for Real Steel that actually made me want to see the movie. I could hardly believe it.

Resident Evil: Afterlife.

These movies hardly seem to be about zombies or trying to scare you anymore. Should just call it Badass Chicks 4 and be done with it.

Once Upon a Time in the West.

I had never seen this before, or even heard of it, honestly. A lot of elements were unintentionally funny, but overall it was a great fucking movie.

There was something about it that just made it seem really modern for a film that came out in '68.

The Sky Crawlers

This is a movie that came out in 2008 made by Mamoru Oshii, known best for the Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor franchises.

At first I thought this movie was just a really awesome looking WW2 fighter anime, but I discovered it was more complex than that.

The good:
The CG in this movie has to be the best part of it. The visuals of planes flying around in the skies are just amazingly realistic and beautiful. The animation was also amazingly good, besides the fact that all the characters had enormous round pupils and it made their eyes creepy as hell.

The not so good:
There just wasn't as many awesome CG battles as I expected. For the fact this movie appears to be a movie about aerial combat, there's not as much as I was hoping.
The thing is, this movie is less about aerial combat and more about people. It's a character drama through and through. And there's not much of a plot at all. No conflict, no enemy to fight against. I actually found myself bored with the movie halfway through because there was no sense of tension or conflict whatsoever.

*Some spoilers*

This series is set in an alternate world where Kildren, people who are perpetually teenagers, work as fighter pilots for companies. It takes forever for the movie to explain exactly what's going on, which they did on purpose. They didn't want to reveal the true nature of the Kildren's world but rather let the viewer figure it all out. I pretty much had it figured out by the beginning.

In this world, two companies, the hero's company based in Europe, and the enemy's company based in the UK, fight areal warfare with the Kildren. The reason they do this, explained gradually through the movie, was to keep peace in the world. As long as the kildren were fighting their battles for the entertainment of the masses, real war wouldn't break out. "We are at war with Eastasia. We have always been at war with Eastasia." The reason the kildren are perpetually adolsecent is to keep them at the age where they're in their peak form. The whole point of the Kildren is they were genetically engineered to fight each other and kill each other to maintain world peace.

But that's not it. The Kildren never "die". Why waste a perfectly good pilot with death? It's not explained how, but when a Kildren dies, their body is made anew, their memories are wiped, and they're given a new name. The kildren also are engineered so they don't remember anything after a week or so. The whole thing reminds me of Dark City but worse.

But that's the thing. The whole movie is from the point of view of the main character, who is assigned to an airbase, not remembering his past, as he tries to figure out what's going on and what his purpose is. There's no real plot. No climax. When he finally figures out what's going on, he doesn't try to fight the system, he just accepts it.

As a character drama, it's not bad. The social commentary about war and young people was somewhat interesting. But it's no action film. And if you're watching it like I was, expecting lots of epic air battles, you'll be disappointed.

TL;DR
A slice-of-life character-driven drama disguising itself as a CG WWII-style action movie. If you don't mind waiting for the few awesome-looking CG battles, or you don't mind a story with no climatic ending or resolution, and you don't mind watching a thinking man's movie, you might enjoy this. If you expect a mindless action flick go somewhere else.

Also, Basset Hounds.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Enter the Dragon.

The fights were great, the rest of it not so much.

Bloodsport.

Hadn't watched this in years, but man does it ever hold up. It can't escape the cheesy '80s vibe, but overall it's just a funny, entertaining action movie. Van Damme was the shit back then.

The Transformers: The Movie.

This thing will always be good.

Snake in Monkey's Shadow.

I didn't recognize any of the guys in this, but that didn't keep me from enjoying it. Good old-fashioned Kung Fu is always welcome.

The Addams Family (1991)

Went to Wal-Mart to try to track down a copy of The Addams Family tv show because I am trying to draw a floor plan of the Addams Family house. They didn't have the show anymore, but I found the movie in the 5 dollar bin as a consolation prize. This movie has held up well and appeals to my morbid sense of humor.

I liked it. It was actually my first encounter with the Addams Family. I then retroactively watched the old shows. Better get ready for some MC Hammer though...he did like the whole soundtrack. Anytime it isn't the original theme or the films score. It's all Hammer.
