I was fully prepared to hate Green Lantern after the initial shot of bad reviews, but it wasn't bad. I wouldn't pay to see it again.

Caught Super 8 beforehand, and I'll say I preferred it to GL, but it's not the transcendental Spielbergian revelation that a lot of critics are making it out to be.

Ugh. Man, you're right. I'll never understand that school of thought, because I'm the exact opposite. If I really want to like something and it lets me down, I fucking reject it outright.

It's like if I buy a game for $60 and it sucks, I'll be pissed. But then there are people who will convince themselves the game isn't that bad... because they paid $60 for it.
Cognitive dissonance!  You're predisposition to like something increases when you've already made a financial investment.  Ideas are hard to change.

I'll never forgive TF for the huge glut of useless crappy humans that had no business being in a movie that should've been primarily about sentient robots.  Also, "what's crackin', lil bitches".  No, son.  No.
WTF?  Shia is great!

Anyway I didn't have TPM back in the day.  As the later movies came out I hated it more and more as the prequels as a whole became a dissapoinment, most strongly when the 3rd one sucked and failed to serve as the proper bridge that could have saved the whole series.  Now I just consider myself a Star Trek fan...

Anyway I saw Battle Los Angeles the other day and it was pretty good.  The trailer gives a pretty godd idea of what to expect so if that isn't your bag, don't waste your time.

I would have liked Transformers more if Shia was one of the ONLY humans shown. Do it like G1, only a handful know what the fuck is really up in the butt.

That's a trick question!  That entire movie was balls balls balls!

I'm no Shia fan but I feel the need to clarify that my issue wasn't that it had human main characters, but that it had too many and they dominated too much of the movie.  Didn't it take like a half an hour for a robot to even show up?  Bleh.

I thought Shia was fine in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The movie was not good overall, but I don't see him as the weakest link.

Gah...please don't mention Indy 4. In my mind that was 10 times worth then the prequels. I'm trying to pretend that never happened and you guys talking about it is making it hard to do.

Just watched Super 8, more a Spielberg ripoff than a homage. If you liked Goonies, ET, Gremlins, and Cloverfield this movie is for you.

Oh man... tough question.  Shia is good, but that movie is so horrible.  I can't seem to seperate the performance from the movie in my mind.  I'd have to rewatch.  Generally though, he's always excellent. He was not the problem with that movie.  I have 3 Mutt Williams toys...

ET sucks.  That alien has to be retarded.  How exactly is this a member of a space farring race?  Imagine a human in his place.  Imagine Captain Jean Luc Picard.  He's on an alien planet, and a child of the race of the planet he's surveying, and should have knowledge of, shows up.  He hides in stuffed toys, freaks out and knocks shit over in a shed.  Does reason win him over and get him to come out?  No no no... this advanced being is lured by little chocolate treats.  Imagine a Jean Luc Picard, knowledgeable of the hostile environment he's in, throwing caution to the wind because of a trail of alien candies, but otherwise being a stupid bitch.  Fuck that movie.

He'd pretty much have to be, right?

Black Plague, with Sean Bean! Not terrible for something so under the radar.

Death Race 2, also with Sean Bean! Although not nearly as much. It's a prequel to Death Race, which is completely unnecessary. Hell, Death Race was unnecessary. As was Death Race 2000.

I disagree. I think the alien in Super 8 looks like a spider-gorilla.

They could have just fitted Ron Perlman with extra arms and saved millions.

Except the monster in Cloverfield was not an alien, it was a prehistoric sea creature. Mr. Abrams has  refuted it any time someone says it's an alien.

However, they do have some similarities. The first few times you see it, they seem almost the same, but their differences show more later on.

About Phantom Menace, I actually liked it when it first came out. I think it was partially because of what Beck said, about the anticipation of something greater, and also due to soaking up all the excitement from the crowd (I went opening night surrounded by people in costumes). And seeing stuff on the big screen was pretty intense.

It's not entirely bad. I enjoyed the pod race the first time, and the lightsaber duel and the battle scenes weren't bad. But, the more I thought about it, the more stupid the plot seems. I think the Red Letter Media guy does a great job of explaining why none of that movie made any sense. Why the fuck would you blockade a planet no one would give a fuck about? Why do you only blockade it around the equator, and why do the heroes leave the system through the blockade instead of flying "up" or something? Shit like that.

The second movie had some somewhat exciting battles after about 3/4ths of the way in but even when I first saw it I thought Hayden was a whiny ass bitch. I wanted to punch him through the screen.

By the time the third movie came around I was hoping for something BETTER and got shit. I actually walked out of the theater more disappointed than I was with the first two when I first saw them.

As for Transformers, I like the first one. It's not the greatest ever, and I do think it needed more robots, but I did like it. I hated the jiggle camera at the end though. The second one should never be mentioned again, and should be buried in the vaults in Nevada where they were originally going to bury nuclear waste. RotS can go down there too.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Revenge of the Sith.

Saw Rango.  Enjoyed seeing a cartoon with tobacco, guns, and death but that isn't a total downer, artsy fartsy, or "fer adultz only", the latter of which usually translates to "hey, let's add a dick joke!"

Funny you should mention rango, I've never actually seen it but it was on in the background while I was poundi...just kidding!  (Not really kidding)

I just watched Green Lantern Emerald Knights.  It was decent.  I don't really like things that are a bunch of vignettes, and I'm not thrilled about this being that but I got to learn some lantern lore which was fun.

Revenge of the Sith.

Ohhhhh, see, because it being there with Transformers confused me, especially as hew as already talking about RotF so I knew it wasn't just a typo on the last letter.

I also watched Emerald Knights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, they showed a new preview for the new GL animated series ... fucking CGI bullshit, but maybe it will be a surprise and be awesome like Mainframe and Beast Wars.

Just saw the new Studio Ghibli film Arietty.  It's basically "The Littles" anime movie.

Which is ok with cause you can't stop the littles...
