How can you be surprised that a universe that has telepathic gorillas and star conquering starfish would also have giant toy robots?

Eh...I think it was the way it was done and reeked of deus ex machina. The movie had been pretty serious up till that point. I know it was based a on comic, but have no idea if that's how the comic ended.

I haven't read the comic but it appears that is in fact what occurred.  I could buy it.  It's not as if the robot was pulled out of someone's ass.  It was implied both Bats and Lex already knew the Toyman in Japan was already working on it, but it wouldn't succeed without proper data on the meteor.  And if it hadn't been for Batman manually piloting the thing and Superman preventing Lex from interfering with the launch, the robot wouldn't have succeeded.  So there were factors that impacted the success of the robot.  Far more believable than the telepathic gorilla.  I don't think Merla even knew who Grodd was so she was really confused by him, going all "WTF?  Monkey shines!"  Captain Marvel kinda threw her for a loop, too.  "Magic?  HUH?"  But she didn't so much as bat an eyelash at the freaky robot.  She did feel it was a stretch that Batman lived after the impact though, but it's not like she thought he was gonna die either.

Yeah that magic bit was a real fan wank there. You not only have to know that Captain Marvel is magic, but that Superman is weak to magic. Since I knew that it didn't bother me.

Anyway I saw Predators. It was Good, but not amazing. It could have been. They are really trying to use the look and feel of the first movie, but you are thrown right into the middle of it at the start. No long intro like the first movie or anything. I was also throw off by the apathy of our heroic lead. He was a little too Anti-Hero for me.

And at the moment I'm watching The Wolfman (2010) so far I'm really liking it. It's a good remake so far and those are hard to find.

Ha, I completely forgot all about that.

I wish they had (1) chosen someone other than Adrien Brody for the hero; (2) it wasn't so damn obvious certain parties were going to live to a sequel; (3) they had done something different that try to milk the first one so blatantly.  I used to like anti-heroes but they're really interesting me less and less because everyone fricken does them.  It's like "hey, there's still room for regular heroes, you know."  And why would the predators take such a ragtag bunch instead of beaming in or whatever another military team or some shit?

military team

I wondered about that. Would the Predators not have a bigger challenge trying to hunt a team that already knows how to work together? Let us see how they go against a full team of Navy Seals or something equally bad ass.

Brody didn't bother me as much as I thought. And yeah it was clear he and Braga where going to make it till the end, but at the same time I pretty much knew Arnie would make it to the end of Predator. So it wasn't bad enough to ruin it for me. And If they didn't try to get Arnie of Danny Glover for the Laurence Fishburne role then it was a waste. That guys whole role was a waste if it wasn't for a super cool cameo. And I thought it was a joke then the director's name came up as Nimrod.

As for why they didn't take a team. I'm guess it was an idea that each would fight back differently. A team would all fight as a unit. The same. So it wouldn't be as much a variety of prey. Plus in the movie it says that one of the reason they do this is to learn. They hunt and if one of them dies they learn from it. So they'd want more types of people to hunt to make sure they got more exp.

I think you would get more XP hunting a tight unit.

Or several units.  Or even other sentient life.  Made even cooler by the fact that the "winning" group gets to go home (except they don't) so the teams are actually interfighting.  Ninjas vs SEALS vs rip-off Klingons vs Predators.  One thing I liked about Pred2 was that you had the cops, the dealers, the military group... it made for a nice menagerie of prey.

Also, I think knowing Arnie was going to live is different because he's effin' Arnie.  The little bitch from The Pianist?  He didn't really have to live and he could've died in a cool, creative way that would've been all "WTF, you mean he didn't live?  Duuuuude!'.  Also, have more than one woman fer Christ's sake.  First we have the chick that's not armed in the first one and the prego cop in the second and now this one?  The pattern?  The primary sole female evades death!  Enough of that shit.  And I don't mean adding another chick like that panicky one like in Alien, like a fucking Vasquez from Aliens.  Even the marines from Aliens had three chicks in their group.

Someone more badass than Brody should've carried the film and, yeah, that Fishburne role should've been a cameo by someone more connected to either franchise.  Hell, even a Bishop.  That would've been mountains of win.  Unless Fishburne had been playing his character from CSI, ha ha.  "The sperm's glowing under the light!  Nah, that's just pred blood."

I saw Troy on Sunday.  Not as bad as I thought it'd be--much better than Alexander--but certainly nothing I'd ever have to watch a second time.  I also fast-forwarded through a bunch of filler--namely Brad Pitt's ass.  Nice and tapable as it is, I didn't really give a shit.  Again, that people from what is now modern day Greece and Turkey speak with British and Aussie accents is bit effin' weird.  I mean, why fucking bother since it makes no sense?  I'm getting annoyed by it.  Frankly, I understood with Lord of the Rings (which I only bring up because it seems everyone's trying to make the "next" one).  Those were films based on stories by a British writer directed by a Kiwi filmed in Kiwi-land.  This fucking film is directed by a German filmed in the Republic of Malta in the Mediterranean and based primarily off of the work of an epic Greek poet.  Yet they're so British they shit the Queen!  Except for Eric Banana who apparent said, "Fuck this, mate" and boomeranged out full-on Kangaroo-pouch native Oz.  Hilarious when the rest of his relations had no such accent.  Also, while I don't agree with their choice of Helen anyway, they could've at least made her look less like a club skank that lets random doods do jello shots on her ass-crack.  ** out of ****

Today I finished The Warlords.  Apparently it was renamed from "The Blood Brothers" which is a faaaarrr more fitting name but ran into effin' issues so it was stuck with the ill-fitting name "The Warlords".  While delivering on the war and the lords, it's instead about three men struggling with their pact as--wait for it--blood brothers.  The first half starts off pretty steady but then the film got poked in the eyes sometime into the second half and poddles around blindly.  It does a lot of "1 Year Later", "3 Years Later", "At This Chinese Place", "At that Chinese Place" nonsense that you really wish they just didn't.  It doesn't regroup itself until the end.  Also, it was woefully low on Takeshi Kaneshiro and Jet Li looked like he was a cancer patient.  **1/2 out of ****  If the beginning and end hadn't been decent, I would've rated it less than Troy.

Bishop wouldn't have worked. That's from Earth future. Still think it should have tried to get Arnie for that. Would have made sense. First human to kill a Predator (that we know of). That he'd be the first one they'd abduct would have made sense.

As  far a Brody, since the role wasn't written for him it was just case of the heroic lead living till the end and killing the Predator. Just like Arnie. Brody wouldn't have been who I picked, but that's cause he never came across as a bad ass hero. I think he did OK role, even if he wouldn't have been my first choice. What is far more confusing is a Latina actress, with a cliche Hispanic name as a IDF solider. That was just strange.

You do know a majority of Jews have Spanish names because Jews ran to Muslim Spain because they were more tolerant than the rest of Europe, right?

I knew that. And then later on when Spain was not so tolerant it is said they changed their traditional names to the ones ending on z. Not all z names are Jewish, though.

No I didn't know that actually. So I guess it does make sense. I just figured it was a laziness on the writers part. Finding an actress he liked, but didn't change the role to fit her. Given Hollywood's pension for doing just that. (Chinese actors playing Japanese roles come to mind) I just figured that was what had happened.

Of course the other part is that when Israel became a nation, Jewish people from all over the world went there, including from Spain.

A lot of people do, apparently.

It is not a movie, but I finished the first and only season of Happy Town. I felt like this show could have evolved into something amazing. It had SAM FUCKING NEILL for fucks sake, and he was awesome, and a little creepy, just the way I like him.

Well, the last episode at least answered a few things, but there was so much left unsaid. What is the Blue Door about, what is this so called darkness that invades the town, why did Magic Man do it, and why do it the way Magic Man did. So fucking confusing. Oh well.

Gas Land. Holy shit is that depressing. Basically the documentarian goes out looking at how Natural Gas removal is destroying America with Hydralic fracturing fluids. These fluids poison the earth and are killing animals and people. Fucking depressing save I don't live near prospective sites. The closest is the Catskills of New York, which could poison NYC, Philly, and New Jersey water supplies. HA!

Dude, RLY?  I don't think anything in the franchise touches the first Predator.  Me and Merla must've seen that movie a hundred times over the last few years alone.  Granted, I liked a lot of things about 2 but I'm still about the first one.

Merla and I saw this doc on PBS the other day called "China Blue" about sweatshop jean factories in China and the shitty-ass treatment and pay.

I prefered the second one, personally. I don't think the first is inferior, just I like the idea of the first and the greater depth it added.

That said, AvP (both of em) felt more like a vidya game than a movie.

The first AVP left enough of a taste in my mouth that I just wrote off everything else AVP.  I wasn't throwing things at the TV after I saw it but I'll definetely never be seeing it again.  Glad a relative owned it and it was a borrow.

Reminds me of the 18 and 20 year-old work studies who had never heard of the Predator!!!  I nearly killed over before I realized they only babies when the movie came out.  Makes me feel so old  (Shut-up Rama!!).

Yeah that China Blue thing makes me feel bad about my walmart denim purchases.

I say nothing. I'm 30 now. I think I have to cut out the age jokes at this point. So unless you are at least a decade older then I, which you are not, then I wouldn't expect anymore old jokes from me. Course if they bug you that much I might just keep them up for funs.

I saw Inception.  I might actually make a new thread or something because I have a lot to say about it.  It was a pretty, shiny movie.  Some scenes were awesome.  The acting was top-notch.  The story REALLY needed some help.  Not a waste of eight dollars or whatever, but I'd rather watch the Matrix again.  I think it will do good box office.  Whatever further sinks Airbender is cool with me.  I kinda want to see Salt but it looks like it'll get the same grade.  Shit will explode, stunts will be had, and I won't give a damn either way.  My God, Jolie's lips get puffier every year it seems.
