Yeah, they offed Mathis in the most pathetic manner ever. Not to mention he was jumped off-screen, just like Fields, just like Greene. It felt very lazy, like I was watching a web series where they're forced to make such jumps in time to move the story along under budget. I think it really missed the boat by not showing us Greene's death. I would have liked to have seen him drinking the motor oil and then getting capped. Instead we
had to address Bond's
angst.
Now that you say it, it does seem like they just made a generic modern day action film and slapped Bond on the title. I know they want to, I guess,
expand on Bond's character, but old film Bond was a special quippy gent with his women and martinis and the Daniel Craig version doesn't seem the least bit special. I actually find him to be the ugliest, stupidest Bond ever. He had the mentality of a teen boy at times. As for bad guys, "what's the fucking point again" kept popping in my head everytime they came up.
Strawberry fields forever (ew) was my only complaint about this movie, since she was completely unnecessary and was just fuckmeat and then a redshirt.
I thought that was most Bond babes. Although I do concede she managed to be extra annoying.
The whole movie showed Bond being an Angsty bitch, something which M and Montes both pointed out.
And something they couldn't stop pointing out. The entire thing was all "hey audience, you're stupid. since you're so stupid, Bond here is an angsty, dumb little whore."
Sure, Mathis was going to die, but he had to atone for his sins in the prior film. He served as a mentor for Bond, showing him what working in that industry could do to an individual. Mathis was a danger on relying too much on his position to get what he wants, which blinded him to the true danger of the Job.
He could've died n a better way.
I didn't care about his sins.

It showed him to be an idiot, like idiot Bond who used him as a shield instead of just shooting the guys who pulled him over to begin with.
