Well anyone that can write a heartfelt proclamation of love between two characters in the middle of Donkey Show and make it still seem like it came from the heart is doing something correct.

I watched Tusk last night. You know, I can understand that people found the story distasteful or stupid or whatever, but it's still a competently made film. It clearly had a budget that allowed for visible production value, various locations, dynamic camerawork, etc.

In other words, still better than Clerks III. Way, way better.

You know, I hadn't really watched any of his stuff between Clerks II and Reboot. I'm working my way backwards, and having now seen Yoga Hosers and Tusk, I'm seriously beginning to wonder if Clerks III is just his worst movie hands down.

Saw Black Adam tonight. Not a great movie. Maybe not even a good one. But the critical consensus seems like a bit of a dogpile. It's not irredeemable by any means. In fact, I'd say overall it's probably a better comic book movie than Love and Thunder. Like, it never hits that movie's highs, but on average it's less fucking awkward, that's for sure.

As always, I'm curious to see how it'll end up performing.

Meh, it's the Rock. People love the Rock. Not me. But, like, other people. He could be taking a big stinky dump and flocks of fans will give him money and coo his praises. The movie should do fine.

That seems to be a common complaint about this movie, though, that he's very un-Rock-like here. Black Adam is kind of a stoic asshole of a character, and that's how he plays it, because why the fuck wouldn't he? That's the character.

"But nonono I want him to arch his eyebrow and shout cheeky catchphrases-desu!"

I cared so little about this movie I didn’t even know it was out yet. And I like Shazam! But just no desire for this.

I want to see it if for no other reason than the Justice Society. Never thought I'd see them in live action...

I really can't recommend it. I just thought the critical reception was overly harsh. Marvel routinely puts out movies of similar quality, but they seemingly have the benefit of some kind of review "buffer" that has their movies scoring higher than is reasonable. With Warner I guess it goes the other way.

Actually, I just remembered Eternals. That was crap that got called out as crap. And yet... it's still apparently better than Black Adam. According to Rotten Tomatoes, at least.

I recall overhearing some piece of celebrity news that Schmoo was watching that mentioned Black Adam is only a film because the Rock was playing Black Adam. As in, "we casted the Rock as this character but what a waste he's not the STAR of this movie. He needed to be the STAR so we made an entire different movie!11111 bluh bluh bluh"  Just, ugh.

On you point about the reviews, I'm sure Disney buys them and especially when a film is struggling. I think in these big studio's minds, certain franchises or certain movies with certain actors can in no way be seen with low imdb ratings or low Tomato meters.

Also, this film's directed by the dude who directed The Orphan?  Huh?

And finally: y no cast Oded Fehr as Dr. Fate?

Eternals is was a steaming pile and those were not characters anyone was clamoring for. No idea why they went that direction.

Sometimes I think they just throw shit on the wall to see what sticks. Like, if even one of these characters had really caught on somehow, they'd have a new franchise to exploit.

Aw, who am I kidding? These flicks are all money laundering schemes for Hollyweird.

I think maybe they were thinking it would be another guardians of the Galaxy because there’s another crew that not a lot of people are clamoring for but they did it well and with a lot of humor and heart which is exactly the opposite of what they did with eternal’s. So I don’t know why they thought that was gonna work. Because you took away the two things that may guardians work despite the fact nobody knew who they were

Just got back from "One Piece Film: Red" and boy what a title. Saw it subbed because I don't hate myself nearly enough to sit through 2 hours of English dubbed One Piece. 2 hours, yeah, it was a bit much. It's kind of a sort of a musical, and the song sequences are probably the highlight, maybe? The singer girl has some real pipes on her, she really lets it rip a few times, almost sounded like it might hurt the old vocal cords.

Structurally, pretty weird. I'm trying to imagine someone trying to watch this just as a movie without any context, but why would anyone ever show up to a One Piece movie if they don't know One Piece? Normally OP movies are standalone affairs featuring original characters, and this has some of that, but what it really has is cameos from characters spanning the entire continuity of One Piece. Almost felt like the OP equivalent of Infinity War/Endgame.

Also, seems to be canon. Heavily retcons a previously mentioned world event involving a major character, so that was definitely something.

It was alright. Has the misfortune of showing up in the wake of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and it doesn't hold a fucking candle to that one. And like I mentioned, if you're not an existing OP fan, you probably won't get much out of it, other than the music.

I mean, I wouldn't think so. I would imagine the people that do so are curious about One Piece or with their friend-group that likes One Piece. I watched a trailer for that movie and recalled the designs seriously put me off of One Piece. Among other things, of course. (Like the number of episodes.)

See, as someone who's followed One Piece since practically the very beginning, even I would never recommend the show to anyone. It's absolutely lousy with filler, and the majority of the animation could be generously described as "budget".

You know when they adapt manga to anime, the conversion rate typically has you seeing multiple chapters of content per episode? In One Piece, it's now one-to-one, and it's been that way for years. You get the events of a single chapter streeeeeetched out to 22 minutes, with "filler" baked directly into the plot. And it's pretty much insufferable.

I still like the manga, even if its best days are probably behind it. If you're someone who's never touched it though, might as well wait until it ends and then binge it if you have any lingering interest.

Easier just to continue ignoring it forever, though.

Just as I was about to hit post, I remembered another damning detail. OP intros are like 3 minutes long, and can be followed by "recaps" that eat up a significant portion of the episode's runtime. Truly vile shit. I'm sure someone somewhere is compiling a "true" version of the anime with all the disease excised.

Just got back from Black Bantha Episode II, and it was REAL good. Full disclosure, not the biggest fan of the first one. Too many half-baked visual effects. This new one, though, good stuff. I have to imagine it will make all of the monies this weekend and beyond.

$330M worldwide opening doesn't seem like a lot for a Marvel movie. Wonder if it'll even manage to surpass Love and Thunder's $760M final.

I mean it definitely deserves to, it's a waaaaaaaaaaaay better movie. Perhaps widespread superhero fatigue is finally beginning to manifest?

Or! Is it possible that by sending Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder to Disney+ after only roughly two months, Disney have shot themselves in the foot for all future releases? Have they unintentionally created an "I can wait!" mentality among erstwhile theatergoers?

Well Love and Thunder was the first Marvel movie I waited for Home to watch since like the phase 1 movies. Glad I did it wasn’t worth a theater visit but I did that because of Eternals and Shang Chi back to back disappointments. And I was really excited for Shang Chi. Been wanting him to show up since the Iron Fist Netflix show

I just don't get all the Taika Waititi fellation. The last two Thor movies, while having entertaining moments, just weren't good. They've basically turned Thor into a running gag, and while that's fine with Guardians of the Galaxy, it's not fine with Thor. The latest Dr. Strange movie more or less made Wandavision required watching to really understand what was going on, and I'm not interested in going down those Disney+ rabbit holes.

I thought Ragnarok was genuinely enjoyable, but I can easily acknowledge it begat a true stinker in Love and Thunder.

Taika Waititi: Oh, people like the funny stuff, do they? What if we made another one, but it was almost entirely the funny stuff? But then what if the funny stuff wasn't even all that funny anymore, because I've lost interest and I'm getting paid either way?

Anybody watch "Our Flag Means Death"? Fucking DRECK.

Ragnarok did seem like Guardians of the Galaxy lite and not like a thor movie. I actually like the first Thor, not so much the 2nd.

Taika Waititi gets pass from me solely because of What We Do in the Shadows. The movie and TV show...although the last season of the show wasn't as funny, but it was still enjoyable.

Kinda of shocked they never made a sequel, but then they never made any more St*r WarzzZZ movies after the first three and only the three Indiana Jones movies so I guess it’s possible.
