I've never known what her powers were. Or Dr. Strange's for that matter.

I was unaware of America Chavez before this movie. I've never been a follower of the Marvel comics.

I have to admit, the marketing for this had me fooled regarding the main antagonist. Also, the movie didn't feel as important as it was made out to be, but the multiverse aspect really served this movie well so it wasn't obvious. However it'll have massive repercussions down the road, especially in light of the Loki series ending and next year's Ant Man/Wasp movie when I figure this phase's big bad will be manifested.

I watched Morbius. What a fucking turd.

I also watched the new Firestarter, and it isn't nearly as bad as everyone is saying. Then again, maybe it just seemed okay because I watched it immediately after Morbius. Which is a total fucking turd, by the way.

Man, fuck everything about Morbius.

I hadn't even heard about a Morbius movie until, like, five days ago. My questions: why Morbius? And why Jared Leto? How many people know who Morbius is? I completely forgot he even existed. And Jared Leto is literal box office poison. Why this nobody director with the writers of Gods of Egypt?

Meh, I shouldn't ask these questions. This was just another way for dirty Hollywood to move around illegal money.

Sony is hellbent on having their own Spider-Man "universe" of movies, and because Morbius originated in the pages of one of the various Spider-books back in the day, he's technically a Spider-Man character and thus Sony owns the film rights to him.

That's literally the only reason: because he exists.

Make a Black Cat movie, you pieces of shit.

Ugh, I read Chip 'n Dale spoilers. HOLY SHIT. LET'S MAKE THE MOUSE FUCK THE FLY AND HAVE 42 KIDS. I'm sorry if I ruined this for someone but the salt is too great. Anytime Disney tempts me to get Disney Plus they pull bullshit. I'm so disgusted. Gadget fucked Zipper. OMG.  :puke:

Yeah, I just watched Chip 'n Dale because I fucking hate myself. I'd say it's just as bad as it looks, but it's so much worse. Absolutely rotten to the core. Distilled creative bankruptcy.

I tried watching Uncharted. Really, I did. 20 minutes in, I cut it off and haven't felt moved to resume it. So it'll reside on my Plex server as pending for a long time until I finally just purge it.

I watched that Jurassic Dominion or whatever, well, sort of. It was on. Two and a half hours of pure dreck. The well has run dry on dinosaur ideas. The main thrust of the film wasn't even about them, it was about cat-sized locusts, FFS. I don't even.

I haven't seen it or nothing (nor do I plan to) but I'm surprised how much this franchise jerks Dr. Wu of all characters. In that he's been so involved with the past few films.

Do you think it's a cynical play at diversity? Like, this one random dude from the first movie just happened to be Asian, so let's turn him into a legacy character as a feeble show of representation.

I think it could be. Although, I'm sure dude appreciates the work.

I actually don't. I think it's a case of "let's have a common thread in this franchise from the first movie but let's get the cheapest actor possible." Every other character that wasn't a star of the first film died, so it kinda leaves Dr. Wu as the useable extra.

Frankly, the kids from the first movie should've been the featured characters in the sequels along with Laura Dern. The franchise was already set up this way by giving the two sequels to specific characters. The Lost World was Jeff's movie and 3 was Sam Neill's. Laura Dern should've gotten one of her own, the "kids" get one, and then you bring everybody together again for a last one.

But I'm not too sour about it because these latest films look awful. And yeah, I get that Locust Park or whatever has some of the OG characters. But I consider the taint to be less than it would've been if Sam Neill would've been the face of the sequels over Worst Chris.

The weird thing is, Pratt definitely gets plenty of screen time in this new one, but it feels like he's riding shotgun the whole way. Not unlike Tom Hardy in Fury Road. Or maybe his highlight reel took place during the 30 minutes I stepped away to prepare and eat supper.

The "'main character' along for the ride and doing little to nothing" seems to be what media gravitates to these days.

Hahaha. I've read some pretty scathing pull quotes on Rotten Tomatoes.

I'll probably go see it sometime this week, but honestly? I'm ready for the hero film industrial complex to implode.

It's all just become too much. Fuck it.

I liked Ragnarok. I've seen a couple of take-downs on how that movie's shit. Objectively speaking, I didn't see any problems with these takes. But flaws and all, I still enjoyed it. It felt like a cape movie just having fun. I don't even remember what happened in the first Thor movie and in the second I recall being bored as hell.

I have no plans to see this Thor movie but from a review and the press materials, I don't know why Jane and Valkyrie are in this movie. Valkyrie looks like they don't know what to do with her. Jane's a complete no bueno. She's the worst part of the Thor movies. It's like watching a piece of wet cardboard that's gained sentience.

I was going to say, I remember being entertained watching Ragnarok in the theater, but I've never revisited it. I imagine my reaction would be the same as when I try to watch any Marvel movie a second time.

"Why did I like this, again?"

I mean, Goldblum was funny, but really he was just Goldblum-ing it up as per usual.

Yeah, it worked in exactly like that for me, too. I watched it. I didn't hate the time I spent watching it. But it left no impression on me. Cate Blanchett was kinda cool looking. Don't recall anything about the character itself other than she looked cool. I remember not being too impressed with Valkyrie. Get someone with some charisma. Jeez.

Saw it. Not a bad movie. Definitely had its moments. But I totally get where the negative critiques came from.

It's just wall-to-wall jokes. And maybe like 10% of them actually land. So many scenes of two characters having a conversation with obvious pauses for audience laughter... followed by silence from the theater.

Like, it can be funny. But smirk-funny, not guffaw-funny. I guffawed exactly once, and there were maybe a handful of us that reacted to that particular moment. And it was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it visual gag.

A mid-credits scene sets up yet another heretofore unseen character, and all I could think was, "Great. How many years before this actually pays off?"

And that's the biggest problem with "Phase 4" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

WandaVision
Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Loki
Black Widow
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
What If...?
Eternals
Hawkeye
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Moon Knight
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Ms. Marvel
Thor: Love and Thunder

I have no fucking clue what kind of trajectory we're supposed to be on right now. There's so very little connective tissue here, it's just been a fucking mishmash so far. I suppose COVID is partially to blame for messing up the cadence of the schedule, but like...? I just don't know.

Oh, and I'm really curious what the film industry is going to look like ten years from now. Lightyear came out 5 weeks ago, Black Phone 4 weeks ago, and as of the past 24 hours they're both currently available to watch VOD.

Black Phone is a relatively small scale horror flick, but Lightyear? That one's got to sting a little for Disney.

There's that rumor going around that John "Squicky" Lasseter hated the Buzz Light-year of Star Command series. But being more like that series is probably what the movie should've been.

You know they've figured out how to make money with streaming when they went there and stayed there after the pandemic's worst days had passed. What do I think it will it look like? Much the same, but without movie theaters at this rate. They can't charge enough for snacks to make up the shortage, no matter how hard they try... yet they most definitely will try.

Black Phone is a relatively small scale horror flick, but Lightyear? That one's got to sting a little for Disney.
I don't know but have heard tell that Lightyear was an utter flop. It's back to the converter conveyer belt of recycled ideas for them.

I haven't watched Lightyear yet, and maybe there's some kind of bait and switch going on, but from what I understand of the marketing materials, the premise is just fucking bizarre.

Retroactively, we're meant to believe that Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story wasn't just a toy line, the titular character was in fact based on a real world astronaut. But not an astronaut as we currently know them, but more of a deep space adventurer right out of sci-fi pulp.

So...? The Toy Story movies actually take place in the future? Even though there's never been anything to indicate as much? Just the opposite, in fact.

They could have made this setup work with Woody -- in that he could have been a real life folk hero from the Old West or some shit. Of course, Disney's probably pretty gun shy about making Westerns these days.

If they had instead done Toy Story 5 or whatever, would it have made more money? I mean, probably? I guess not many people were interested in a spin-off where one of the toys is now a real man.

Some people are blaming the swap from Tim Allen to Chris Evans, but I say fuck that. Nobody gives a fuck about Tim Allen anymore.

I remember seeing a review that called it "Interstellar for kids."  I haven't seen Interstellar aside from clips when Merla was watching it but I know it was long and bit mind-fucky.

What I can discern tho'... this movie looked dark and kinda depressing. Instead of seeing cheerful goofy Buzz, he was Chris Evans.  I don't mean just the voice acting.  He was Chris Evans in almost any movie starring Chris Evans. I don't care about Tim Allen but Tim Allen's Buzz was fun and cheesy with dutiful serious side.  This looked like Chris Evans in a boring space movie. There were no fun aliens. No colorful cool space ships. No galaxy hopping adventure to all sorts of quirky planets. All of the press I saw for this movie was "GAY GAY GAY LESBIANS BROWN PEOPLE !!TALKING CAT!! GAY. serious themes."

They could've done so much with a Buzz Lightyear movie. And they go an make a movie that could've easily been made as a live action sci-fi flick?

Mystery solved! This is how Lightyear opens:

In 1995, a boy named Andy got a
Buzz Lightyear toy for his birthday.

It was from his favorite movie.

This is that movie.
