Well I was right. I got the whole album Chasing Yesterday from Noel Gallagher's High Flying and it is very awesome. Been listening to it constantly for about a week now and my favorite song on the album keeps changing. First it was Ballad of the Mighty, then Riverman, now it is the Mexican.

The song's actually "Ballad of the Mighty I"... so, uh, "mighty one," maybe? I don't think it's an "i" or lowercase L. I dunno, do you think it's an I? I kept getting confused by the "I" thinking it was a "|" only to see it's actually part of the song title.

Okay, I need to ask the resident Oasis fan if he likes this cover. Because I don't. I think crappy. Even Noel Gallagher liked it according to Spin magazine. Meh. People all "this is better than Oasis." This is "deep" and "haunting." Really? I listened to it again to see why it bothers the fuck outta me and it's his emphasis. He emphasizes parts of words weirdly and does that little hiccup thing. I don't know how else to describe it. Other singers do that too but I can't think of their names right now.

He changes the whole tone and melody of the song and it doesn't work. Wonderwall isn't suppose to be haunting or deep...it's a song about a guy in love with a girl. That's it. Oh and the asshat changes the lyrics too, which is not cool man.

And again...only 32 seconds in here. Don't think I'll change my mind at the 4 min mark.

I'd say the opening chords of Wonderwall are perfect and there isn't really any reason to change them. I haven't picked up a guitar in decades (something I'm thinking of changing soon) and I've forgot most of what I learned, but I bet if you put a six string in my hands right now I could play you Wonderwall. But this dude with his hipster folky bullshit takes a memorable song and makes it bland and middle ground and the kinda shit self important douche bags play in coffee shops while wearing really stupid hats.

I've become increasingly open to an artist taking a song I like and doing their own spin on it. Change some lyrics or a bit of the melody or both. But, yeah, this guy's take on it just doesn't work for me. I can't believe so many people like it. I had to do an internet search to see if it really does get such popular feedback because sometimes you see the love in the comments section of Youtube but everyone else is all "no, it's shite." But others outside of YouTube like it as well. Plenty of others.

Can't believe Noel likes it. He isn't one to be "polite" or "Nice" about things. He is a very talented song writer, but kinda an asshole. I could see him gong "What...who?...Oh yeah he is great Mate. I gotta catch my flight so fuck off." I Mean this is the guy that gets mad at younger musicians because they DON'T do drugs and says Oasis will get back together when he needs more money. Not exactly mister sunshine. So, I'm just confused by his endorsement of this.

Holy Shit. Do you live like two doors down from an airport or something? I only use a fan, and while I'm "winding down" I usually do one of three things. Read a book, read a comic, or listen to podcasts, but that stops when I start nodding. So I only have the fan, but I do that year round. Light is more of an issue for me. My bedroom is in a windowless room underground. So it can be pitch black at noon if I want it to be.

Last night I actually listened to the actual Oasis version of Wonderwall in order to wash the taste out of my mouth of that version. But today I am listening to Billy Joel's A Matter of Trust. Not the biggest Billy Joel fan, but I really like this one and "We didn't start the Fire."
