I've been holding off on it just for that reason. That, and I have a ton of crap left to watch that ain't getting watched soon.

I keep hearing it's going to be 25 eps, not including the recap and the OVA.  So I only have three and the OVA to wait for.  Not so bad I guess.  Really, hope we're getting more.  There's so much more of the story left.

Gargantia is back?

This new ep seems to be set somewhere before the final(?) ep.

Watching the new last exile dub...not bad so far, but not as epic as the first.

I watched the sub. I feel about the same way.

Also, I was missing the original theme song on every episode. It was nice to see the connections between the two series, though.

Mondaiji (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_Children_are_Coming_from_Another_World,_aren't_they%3F) had been a fun show. Too bad it's only ten episodes. Hopefully they'll continue it, as it's hard on a light novel series that is continuing.

I've been watching some of Carnival Phantasm and re-watched Unlimited Blade Works, which I had never really sat down and digested in its entirety.

Uchouten Kazoku - In Kyoto, there are three kinds of residents: humans, raccoon dogs, and tengu. Shimogamo Yasaburou is the third son of the Shimogamo raccoon dog family. His father, Souichirou, had been the head of Kyoto raccoon dog community until he was eaten by the human members of "Friday Club". While taking care of old tengu, fighting with other raccoon dogs, and playing with a psychic human girl, Yasaburou approaches the truth of his father's death.

Busou Shinki was a cute show that was absolutely inconsequential. It's about a bunch of girls who are actually action figure-sized seemingly sentient robots who basically are servants of a teenaged master.  It probably sounds a bit masochistic, but it wasn't like that. There was a fair amount of fan service, but it wasn't anything creepy as the characters really aren't presented as sexual creatures. The story never really went anywhere, but, again, it was cute and enjoyable based on that.  The OVA that followed was a completely different story that started a story and didn't finish it and was only tangentially related to the series...I didn't care for that one.

Eh, it's a show about cute girls who happen to actually be miniature robots doing cute things. It's not something I thought I'd have liked, but hey. Apparently there's a larger concept that they're actually built to do battle with each other (as seen most vividly in the OVA) like Pokemon or something, but thankfully they didn't pursue that in the series.

Despite being based on what was originally an erotic PC game, Muv Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse (yes, this is a weird title) is INTENSE. It looks great, there's lots of suspense, and it kicks butt. It's about a variant time-line where Earth is invaded in the seventies by aliens called BETA who eat people like so much soylent green. So, of course, humanity invents giant mecha called TSRs (so, of course, they are piloted by young people) to fight back.

The art is well-animated with pleasing character and serviceable (if not distinctive) mechanical designs. The characters here are all attractively rendered and represent a multinational group...we have a Japanese American guy along with another white American dude, a Japanese chick, a Swedish chick, a Tibetan chick, an Italian guy, a male Turkish commander, and a bunch of assorted Soviets and Chinese. There is a number of minor characters from other places of origin, but the point is that this is something that's not so common in anime. And going back to designs momentarily, there's a fair amount of fan-service due to the pilot uniforms being skin-tight and light on the armor, but I got numb to this early on. There was a topless shower scene early on and a couple beach episodes at the usual juncture (typically around episode 7), but given its source material, that was pretty restrained.

The characters form a team fairly reliably, with the main characters seeing growth over time. The production did a pretty good job of not making the characters easy to hate, which is why I found it suspenseful. After the first two episodes, you really don't know what to expect, as they horribly kill off nearly everyone you've met up to that point, with the lone survivor not even going on to be the main character. So it's not so predictable as you typically expect, which got me sort of on edge when it gets really hairy. And it really got hairy at a few points. The enemies are actually pretty terrifying to me, for some reason...probably because of the absence of normal sets of eyes and disturbingly human-like mouths and appendages attached to decided alien and ferocious creatures. Quite fugly and cruel...there's not a ton of gore so far aside from the first couple episodes, but when it's there you can expect body parts to fly around while the BETAs eat 'em up like convicts.

I've gone on at greater length than usual for a show I'm just past halfway done watching, but it's been amazing. I hope the last half keeps me this engaged.

I watched this movie-thing called Blade of the Phantom Master on Netflix.  I don't think it stood very well on its own.  Once I hopped on the internet and read about it, I could enjoy it more.

Attack on Titan is done.  For now.  Hopefully with another season forthcoming.  So anyone who hasn't seen it hop onto Hulu or something and chell it out.

It won't be long before the bluray fansub batches will be available...volume 1 is already out, in fact. Waiting for that to pan out should give me time to finish everything else I have on the stack.

Regarding MuvLuv, while I didn't find the second half to be as strong as the first, it still was interesting once they got past the requisite interpersonal conflict bullhell. Still, I can easily tell that there is a lot more to the story than what has been animated to this point. But I guess I'll wait until the next season to follow up on that, as I don't have time to pursue that right now given all the other stuff I'm watching and how real life is going at this point.

Has this ever happened?  Anime shows run until they don't.  I'm not familiar with much of a precedent for hiatus.

Has an anime not gone on to a second season before? Yes.
Has a popular anime not gone ot a secnod season before? Probably yes, but I'm guessing not very often.

I'd say a second season is very likely. The anime is somewhere around volume 6 or 7, and they've got volume 12 coming this December. If they pace it right, new material for the anime should not be an issue.

They definitely take hiatus now.  Valrave is back after a break.  Magi is also back.  Both of them are pretty big deals, so I guess that is a thing now.

Even Fairy Tail which seemed like it would never stop has stopped but with an announcement that it's "not the end".

I thought the point was that if they stopped then artists moved on to the next project but it seems like that's changing.

Never watched Valverave. Looks interesting, though...I may give it a watch once the blurays trickle in.

As much as I liked Infinite Stratos' first season, the three episodes into the second season have been shit so far.

Kill la Kill is good, it's going to be super popular.  It's visually stunning but the story is only average to me.

Yes.  Immediately following the first season.

Of course.  All the time.

Okay.  I've just never heard of hiatus for anime.  Shows run straight through or stop forever.  That's why you end up with weird situations where manga series drag on and anime series hafve to drag on to keep up rather than just wait for new content.  I'm not trying to be difficult this is just so contrary to everything I've ever seen about anime.

I think he's exaggerating, but I do believe that money is the ultimate reason it never took off. Specifically, it is a relatively unknown franchise that is not original to the film studio, so they weren't willing to go on it. In my view they could have redone the Cowboy Bebop animated feature for less than $100M easily. They were also probably looking at the lack of success of movies like Serenity, which is the closest thing to a Cowboy Bebop movie I can think of.

Apologies for posting again, but multiple quotes in one post is a PITA on a phone. Kill la Kill is Gurren Lagann with warring schoolgirls rather than giant mecha, but who knows where it's going at this point.

And yeah I guess it is a new thing with going on breaks, not a big deal, just like seasons over here.  It's probably better this way if they can manage it.  This might be the end of filler.
