Yeah. Its kind of how I feel about most English dubs. The voices very rarely match the character.

Also, I think it was a review for Ponyo Ebert goes off about how people always say they want the subbed version instead of dubbed for anime. He said, "What are you complaining about, cartoons are always dubbed!" WHAT THE FUCK? Its like he's never watched a foreign film in his life. Someone stab this guy in the eye, seriously.

I've been READING the Samurai Deeper Kyo Manga's. Up to Vol. 11. Review so far:

Holy fucking Christ. How many main characters are in this fucking Manga?! Bontenmaru just got introduced, then there's: Kyoshiro, Kyo, Sasuke, Yukimura, Yuya, Okuni, Benitora. Eight characters. I don't know if Bontenmaru is a main one yet but I think he is.

They "Hulk Out" Too much for my liking. Like every time Kyo's about to lose he freakin' "Hulks Out" and pwns the fool before him. Kind of annoying.

An aside with the characters: This Kyo guy's basically got five or six badasses on equal kickassery with him. The powet level in this group is fuckin' crazy. ONE of these fuckers could stick his sword through Goku's head with little trouble. At the end, when he's got a god damn army, he's gonna fight like probably thirty armies with a hundred thousand guys in each one and just assign one fucker to each army. And they'll Win cause they're MAIN CHARACTERS.

Entertaining though.

Also I've been reading Kurosagi: Corpse Delivery Service. I've enjoyed it. The puppet/alien is the bestest.

Try reading Battle Vixens. You might have just *thought* that the anime (Ikki Tousen) was hard to follow with its incomprehensible plot...this thing is even more intentionally obtuse. The large titties flying around really saves it from being a total stinker, but not by much.

While what he says it's true, he does kinda sound like an ass wording it that way. Not to mention he's negating the influence and intent the directors and producers of the original dubs bring to the final product, which people involved in English dubs don't always have the benefit of.

Getbackers was a lot of fun, if you ignore the filler and the fact that the Limitless Fortress arc goes on forever. Which, thematically, makes sense, but it still gets old.

So far. He gets kind of a slow fade in the manga. He also made it plain that his interest in Sanzo was more than academic in the manga and that along with his little plan of how to control Sanzo by reanimating him in the anime was just....ew. I love a good shonen-ai as much as the next slobbering fangirl, but not with a vigilante creep who looks like he combs his hair with a pork chop.

Anyway, on to Mirage of Blaze this week.

I like it a lot. It kept me watching all the way to the end which is a rarity with slice of life anime.

There's something about that show that turns me off and I just don't want to see it. I dunno what it is. I don't know if it just looks like it's been done before or it's the stupid smile that Red Eyes guy has or that annoying blone chick. I have one of those Newtype discs I got years and years ago with a free episode and couldn't bring myself to watch it.

Saw FMA:Conqueror of Shamballa. Kinda cheated and forwarded through parts. I should've seen it asap and maybe I'd've been less harsh on it. It's crappier when you've already seen most of FMA: Brotherhood.

You reminded me of my ill-fated purchase of the Escaflowne movie. I even got this entire boxset thing that was pricier than the movie by itself that came in a blue box with a booklet and a soundtrack. I more or less use the entire thing as a bookend.

So, I'm watching through the last five volumes of Mobile Police Patlabor. I've been meaning to get the last volumes for a really long time and finally got around to it. I don't think I'll be going to sleep tonight. Love this show.

That was always a series I meant to watch but never did.

As for Escaflowne, yes, they did try to cram most of the story into the movie. The movie was also advertised as an alternate take on the story but I didn't have any issue with that part. It was just done poorly.

I got the Escaflowne perfect collection that came with the series and movie on some sort of sale that I can't remember. The movie was very, very pretty (plus it fixed the huge noses!), and it took a different tack on the story (mainly who Van was), but it was far less impressive than the series, which was totally loverly. Come to think of it, I haven't watched it since I bought it...maybe I'll give it another whirl after I finish the first season of G.I. Joe.

As for Patlabor, the art put me off. None of the characters have a distinctive design, and I just don't care for it when I can't tell everyone apart from the get-go.

I noticed this only recently. I was all about the mecha at first, but I got into the charachters later.

The main character, Noa Izumi, well, her hair really, really bothers me. Other than that I've enjoyed it all the way through.

It still cheeses me off that the series was never as massively popular here as it deserved to be. And then it got that shitty edited dub on TV which Fox promptly killed along with Cybersix. Squirrel, did you like the series dub? Fox was the only exposure I ever had to it myself. Perhaps if I saw it dubbed now, I'd hate it less.

Those noses were really distracting. It was like watching a Cyrano fan club meeting. And Merle got on my last nerve - the dub voice, the character, everything.
