Thank you. Crybaby was legitimately disturbing. I am disturbed now.

I watched this thing called Pop Team Epic... man, what the hell. It's based on a 4 panel gag manga, but the weirdest thing is that it has a half hour run-time, but it's just the same 15 minute episode twice, only with different voice casts. Why?!

Okay, so... Pop Team Epic is awesome. I love it. There aren't nearly enough of these pure comedy type shows anymore.

They released an OVA for Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon. Probably a fanservice fluff episode, but I like fanservice fluff.

Hakumei to Mikochi looks like it could be a comfy show but, man, it chafes me that all of their tiny items don't look shittier. At least in the preview. Should look more like Arietty-level craftsmanship and homegoods versus all of their items and their home looking like they were mass-produced in a teeny-tiny factory.

Saw a raw of Fate/Extra Last Encore and it just really puzzles me why this franchise always seems inclined to want to focus more on people who are not servants versus people that are. The servants are the more interesting characters. I don't know if I'll stick with this one. Even if I drop it now, Netflix is supposed to get the whole thing eventually so I might just wait and binge it once it appears there.

So Started watching Oniisama E... I like it a lot even though its a super girly anime. Maybe because three of the main characters look exactly like the ones from Versailles no Bara (I know ive mentioned it here before). Only 38 eps tho so thats good too

I watched the latest Dragon Ball Super yesterday. They're really dragging this Universal Tournament sucker out, but Vegeta got his best episode probably ever. Granted, it was really only half an episode, since they're determined to make Android 17 a hero apparently, but...DAMN!

Faye, you will enjoy it.

I wanted something to play in the background so ended up watching most of Kakegurui because it's on Netflix and thus takes me no effort to find a good stream or dl of. I wish this had been played straight: rich high school full of crazy gamblers playing head games with one another. Everybody has ten stupid crazy faces, everybody's insane, combined with the gross focus on high school girls' body parts and sexuality, it just adds a "slimeball factor" (sometimes literally, ew) and detracts from what could've actually been a damn cool show. I love shit with "tricks" to it and it was neat seeing Yumeko explain peoples' own cheats to them. It reminded me of Akagi and One Outs, two of my favorite shows.

But these characters. Akagi and One Outs both had at least a few likable characters. This show on the other hand seems to be asking us if we can manage to hate everybody we meet. The chick with the eyepatch and looney tongue was easily the worst character on the show. Strangely enough, Mary (the blondie from the first ep) and Itsuki (the nail girl) actually managed to improve in later episodes and actually become likable once they enter Yumeko's corner. But then the show ends so ho hum. Didn't even bother with episode 12 and the rush gamble that goes on with the prez there. (I know there's a season two coming.)

Also... I had to watch the dub because insane characters speaking Japanese just grate on my nerves. Anime goes nuts with strait jacket characters and it's soooo damn annoying. The way the seiyuu then screech and laugh to go along with that is really something I can't sit through anymore.

So Oniisama e was FUCKED.UP. Like holy shit these people are messed up, god bless them. Anyways ofc I enjoyed it, cri everytiem etc etc. Needed something easy going and "funny" afterwards to cleanse my brain of the mind-fuckery  so started watching YuYu Hakushu and oh god it is so boring. I think its the first time in my life I wont finish a series I started. I'm on the 10th ep or so but cant endure it any longer.

I binged Made in Abyss. Man, so good. The feels, man. The feels!

Deceptively cutesy, though. Lots of grim shit in there.

Hopefully it will continue some day?

Kakegurui wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought it would be. I don't know why, but I was expecting some truly vile subject matter, and then it ended up being remarkably tame.

That outro...

I don't remember if I replied to this. I had to do a recover on some board files to retrieve the Sphere and it might've eaten some replies.

The only anime I've watched in the last week or so as was The New Initial D Movie. Which is not actually 'new' anymore but that's the name. Anyway, this is because Sentai picked up the film release and are giving it an English dub and Bluray release. Which is cool.

So Initial D (the series) was licensed by Funimation but they only dubbed four seasons and dropped it, implying they would have no further involvement in it. When Sentai picked up the movies, they actually got a few of those vas to reprise their roles in the movies. Which is cool. Would've been sweeter if they could've gotten everybody. Missing me some Haberkorn as Keisuke. Some people said the dub was subpar but it's decent enough. Won't win any prizes but gets the job done. The neat thing is that the movies are actually reboots and the Japanese ones didn't have any of the original Initial D actors reprise their roles nor did it have the signature soundtrack Eurobeat music. So the change of voice actors is actually perfectly acceptable in this context.

I did, but many many years ago when I was in middle school I think? And in portuguese. Used to watch that and Street Fighter in a Brazilian channel :3

Yeah all of them are like 14 or so. I remember Kurama was my husbando but now I see him and he looks like a little kid. His "real youkai" form tho, hot af like Tomoe from Kamisama Hajimemashita. But alas he only appears later on in the anime and I already stopped watching it

Yeah, his youkai form needed to appear much sooner than it actually did. I stopped with that show after the Dark Tournament.

Shonen stuff is all so samey, there's really no getting away from it. I still read One Piece, but that's been going for so long now that it's just like, what even is this anymore? Haha! The main cast is large enough that they're always having to contrive things for everyone to do, while balancing that with developing newly introduced characters. Such a mess.

I stumbled upon this video about Bleach the other day. I just thought it was interesting. I suppose because I never really paid much attention to Bleach outside of the hilarious tracing antics of Nick Simmons. People I knew that were around eight or so years younger liked Bleach. Same with Naruto and One Piece too actually. I saw the first episodes of each and barely continued after that. After DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho I think I was done with anything similar in tone and feel. The only one that I chomped through a couple of seasons of was Fairy Tail, and that's because it was on Netflix and Merla was bored.

That's a good video. I definitely agree with the decline of the artwork. There was a time I was following all of "The Big 3" as he calls them, and with Bleach I distinctly remember wondering what had happened to all the backgrounds. Practically every panel was just characters in a white void. I can't recall what made me drop Naruto.

I guess what he says about creative stagnation is precisely why One Piece has enjoyed such longevity. It's so, so different from when it began, and it's always changing. And despite the fact that some arcs just never clicked with me, I keep coming back to it.

Think about the beginning of the Dragon Ball manga compared to the end. It's a pretty insane evolution.

I'm still salty that Bo-bobo never got localized in its entirety.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobobo-bo_Bo-bobo

It was a send-up of shonen manga/anime and Japanese pop culture in general. For that reason I'm guessing a lot of the humor was lost on me, but enough of it got through for me to enjoy it. I remember downloading and watching raws back in the day, no idea what was going on, but it was still hilarious.

Cartoon Network aired all 76 episodes (I think?), but there was way, way more to the manga that was never adapted.

It's pretty easy to find and stream, so I think I'm going to do that...

Violet Evergarden has been beautiful. Once they got the introductory episodes done and (admittedly suddenly) started doing the stand alone stories, it's been great.

Bored so I decided to try Darling in the Franxx. It's decent. Kinda squicky with perv-gaze being used on little girls and that shitty doctor grabbing that chick's ass riled me, but the story has a great pace to it. I like the OP. Not sure if I'll stick with it or not. If they kill off the kids, I hope they do it bit by bit and not just nuke them all in the last episode or something. I actually like Ichigo and Goro more than 002 and Hiro. Don't hate those two but I'm kinda meh on them. Love 002's design tho'. A bit like the older sister of an alt-universe Nonon from Kill la Kill.

So far they aren't dead yet. It took a few episodes before it was really worth watching...I binged eps 2-6, which helped. I'm not bowled over, but so far it's been good enough to watch despite not explaining what the hell they're actually supposed to be doing.

I hate the pacing of Ancient Magus' Bride. It's like a two episode beat: big thing happens at the end of the first episode, which is resolved in the second which doesn't end before setting up the next two-beat. And they've really not done anything worthwhile besides put Chise in a bind and watch her wiggle out of it.

Dragon Ball Super is winding down. There's a bit of controversy in that they're going on hiatus at the end of the month and therefore (finally) winding up the tournament arc, but there's some question as to whether they're actually going to pick it back up next year. In any case, Goku finally mastered the Ultra Instinct and is fighting another powered up version of Jiren this week. Hopefully they'll finish the fight this week and do the wrap-up the following week, which is more interesting than the actual final bout to me.

Killing Bites sucks. I haven't dropped it, but it sucks.

Strangely, despite being fairly boilerplate in its approach, Beatless has been a familiar kind of fun. It's not good, but it isn't bad, either. It makes for good casual viewing. I assume they'll start dropping all the big corporate entity wrongdoing revelations soon and have them fixed by those robot girls they wrongdid with along with the moribund little whelp who treats them like people.

I haven't watched Garo since episode 12. I liked it up to that point, so I decided to hold off and binge the rest of it in hopes that it's as awesome as it better be, by Gar.

I started Made in Abyss, but it's as hard for me to watch starting out as I thought it'd be. It may just not be my type, but I kept it in the queue since, as Joe alluded to, it's supposed to be great. I'll see.

Dagashi Kashi season 2 has been a snoozer. The first season was animated totally by Hotaru (the purple-haired big-chested chick), and the second season has basically gotten rid of her. Coconuts isn't enough to hold a show on his own; he just has no personality. Hopefully they figure it out...the episodes are short, so I'll keep seeing it, but it's really been dull as hell.

And that's my current take on my current watch list.

I only saw one episode and didn't think it was for me but, still, I need to know how they got rid of Hotaru. They just shoved her to the side or something?

I saw part of Made in Abyss a while back. A real tragic part because I was curious about it. Didn't really encourage to pick up the show. I mean, it was sad and I felt for the characters but I just didn't see what I would get out of watching the series. Artwork's weird-looking, no seiyuu I follow, don't really care for the story nor have enough interest in following it...

I watched the dub of that after Faye posted about it... because I was curious about how many Fayes I could find. There's indeed a bunch.

Also watching some Bubblegum Crisis. I honestly don't remember how much of this I've seen before.

The first half of that stands out in my mind, but I can't tell you about the latter part. Funny, seeing as it's only 6 episodes or thereabouts. I have the boxed set of Bubblegum Crisis 2040 which was good for it's time (and it's archetypal of classic ADV dub casting if you're nostalgic) but is hard to look at now.
