This looks interesting. Basically a Little Mermaid anime for 2026.

Well. Panty & Stocking delivered the goods. Hallelujah.

Ew, it's on Prime?! Bleh. Also, dubbites malding because everyone in the English version was recast.

Silent Witch second episode was way better than the first. But as an info-dump hater and exposition-bitcher, I noticed when the dude at the beginning name-dropped his relative whose name everyone else in the room already knew. I noticed and my eyeball twitched.

People need to accept that in Japan voice acting is sacred, and literally everywhere else it's just mercenary.

Has there still been nothing but "2025" announced for that?

Since there's new episodes for it, I dipped my toe into A Couple of Cuckoos. As in the first season. I mean, it's okay. The depiction of wealth feels off. Like a child imagining how a rich person lives. Her being so sheltered as to not realize how the poors live was fucking weird. I like the main girl and her bio parents. The other characters are more miss than hit and I have no investment in any of them. It's an okay watch if I need something in the background while I cook but I don't plan on finishing this.

So here's my current season update:

Betrothed to My Sister's Ex is probably the show I look forward to most every week. At heart, really just your basic Cinderella story but I love it.

Secrets of the Silent Witch - still okay but pretty enough to look at and entertaining enough that I haven't dropped it yet. I'm seeing it compared to the Little Witch Academia series but the LWA series was fucking garbage. This is the much better show.

After the Rain - semi-dropped but not because I didn't like it. I'm having Frieren problems with it where I'm finding myself impatient when I sit down and watch it. Like Frieren, I'll probably have a cozy binge day with it in the future. I'll have some days off soon so maybe then.

Food Court anime - also will probably cozy-binge.

Clevatess - I generally do not like shows with gore and r@pe these days. It's increasingly harder to stomach for me. Yet I'm strangely drawn to this show. Clevatess Wednesdays are getting me through my week. I've actually found myself really liking both Clevatess and Alicia and I'm curious about the world they inhabit. I've read ahead a bit and I'm genuinely interested in where this plot is going.

Fragrant Flower - Fuck you, Netflix. I will say that every time this show comes up. Great show but Netflix is really fucking it over and smothering the hype. Hopefully this show can pull in huge numbers when it finally makes it to the platform.

Scooped Up by an A Rank Adventurer - This is more of a bored, hate-watch that I'm only bothering with because I currently have a Crunchy sub again. After the first episode, I went through some of the manga and manga is not that bad. This is just a shit adaptation. First two episodes were MEH but passable. Third episode onward turns into a slog that feels like it was written by AI or children. I'm not sure this show can recover at this point. Don't know if I'll continue it.

Anne Shirley - Still watching this. Nothing else to say.

My Dress-up Darling - I'm losing patience with this show's insistence on spending so much fucking time in the fictional worlds of the shows Marin and Gojo are watching. I want to see Marin and Gojo. I don't want to see stupid zany magic girls or the fucking gender-bend host. I overlooked the opening of the season as the show having fun and wanting to start up again in a unique way. But then we had that fucking host episode and my God. I don't care about this. I don't fucking care. This show kept us inside the classroom for far too long with a bunch of other characters I don't give two skinny shits about and then spent way too much time on the host show's plot. I'd rather watch Marin and Gojo shop for moldy yarn than sit through this shit. I'd rather see Marin cooking her gross, greasy cuisine for Gojo and Grandpa and watch them swallow it down with a straight face. I'd rather watch Marin throwing up in a bucket with Gojo holding up her hair. Jesus Louise-us.

Have you read the Dress-up manga? The story doesn't really ever find its footing again. It becomes more and more of a cosplay tutorial, the horniness pretty much evaporates, and the lovey-dovey moments between Marin and Gojo are few and far between. Any and all potential conflict is immediately resolved and forgotten, and plot threads are introduced and never properly developed. And then it just kind of ends.

I guess they could deviate heavily in the adaptation, but I feel like they won't.

That being said, it's the one show this season that I watch as soon as it's available.

I have read some but dropped it somewhere after the Halloween part. Not because I thought it was bad but I wasn't that interested either. I do recall people talking about the ending not being so great so I assumed we were going to see a decline. That and the fact that there's a bunch of anime where S2 begins their decline regardless.

I was hoping the anime might take some liberties to fix it a bit. But apparently not. It's a shame.

If I hear about "the bento scene" again, I swear... I wish they hadn't shown it to us. "Here's my bento and I'll just go buy lunch." Didn't even starve as a result. Didn't even hand-feed her or something wild like that. Just gave that chick her bento. Who the fuck cares?

Yeah. Trying to manufacture a "moment" in a fictional series within a fictional series is kind of a thin rope to walk. You've given us the bare minimum context for these characters, but we're expected to share in the excitement for a story we have little to no connection to.

Yeah, the Dress up Darling manga fell off a cliff...expect the show to do the same. I do like the Betrothed show despite me reading the webcomic or whatever it's based on and coming to the conclusion that Marie simply doesn't want to let herself be happy. If I wanted to inflict a textbook depiction of narcissistic abuse on myself I'd volunteer at the psyche unit at work. I do like it, and I hold out hope the adaptation addresses the shortcomings of the printed material (not likely).

BTW, Fragrant Flower is as good as advertised. You should just find it on nyaa and watch it...to blazes with teh Netflixes. Clevatess had been good, and the manga just gets better so far in my reading. Shield Hero S4 is bogged down and on the verge of being dropped. Grand Blue is fucking awesome, as expected.

I'm actually pulling down more shows than I have time to watch since I'm spending most of my leisure time reading through History Greatest Disciple Kenichi, since the show left off about a third of the way through the story. Call of the Night, Mikadono Sisters, Dan Da Dan, Mynoghra, Witch Watch, Shy Hero, the new Rascal (still haven't watched the precursor movies)...all in the queue. And Fall is loaded down with continuing shows, so I'd better hop to it if I ever plan to.

But of course now that you've planted the seed, I had to go and look, consarn it.

I think I may have posted this already, but the web comic version is not an actual web comic. Someone took the manga apart, sorted the panels in pieces, colored it, and translated it. I'm not sure where it comes from or why that was done. I don't know if it's official or just a fan thing. Both the manga and the novel will get translations starting in 2026.

The raw manga flows better. I think the major concern in this type of story is that this chick will continue to be insecure and this back and forth will go on with her guy forever. Not a spoiler: it doesn't.

I think the writer of this story is actually very genre-savvy and probably has consumed tons of romance content. So they're taking some of the common stale tropes and making them more nuanced or gently inverting them. Some of the plot points do this, like Marie's glow-up not raising her confidence or the question of Marie's parentage.  Same for several of the characters: "dark-skinned strong male love interest," "abused insecure Cinderella," "beautiful doll-like sister," "dutiful maid", "foreign concubine", "knightly prince," etc. Each one is deviating from the norm and it really enriches the narrative.

I am watching Fragrant Flower Netflix-less but I'm still annoyed that Netflix has sabotaged this show's success and hype. I also read ahead in the Clevatess manga and I never thought I'd find myself still interested given the environment we're in right now in the story... but I am.

This is my current Fall...
Pass the Monster Meat, Milady

The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King (The Barbarian's Bride)

May I Ask For One Final Thing?

My Awkward Senpai

Mechanical Marie

SANDA

A Star Brighter Than the Sun

With You Our Love Will Make It Through

Let's Play

Plus-sized Misadventures in Love!

Shabake

Also, I need to hate-watch Ranma 1/2 season two. I have to do it for Ukyo.

One Punch Man S3 (it's OPM, 'nuff said)
Spy x Family S3 (need to go watch S2 now, argh)
Campfire Cooking isekai S2 (yeah, yeah, I know, but it was fun)
May I ask for One Final Thing? (the manga was great)
My Status as an Assassin (yes, more isekai, but looks good)
The Barbarian's Bride (manga was quite good, the world is very interesting)
Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon (long fucking name, but I enjoyed the manga as a revenge story)

And that's just the stuff I'm aware of without looking into any of the rest.

Man, the latest episode of Clevatess was a bit of a stinker. Way too much explaining going on. I like how the cringe bug-guy explained who Alicia was to the townspeople. Twice! Or how washboard-chest magic-girl took the time to explain her powers to..., uh, a fucking wet nurse. And then also explained to her what the magic jawbreaker was. Oh, yeah, and that showdown between Blondie and Beardie. Thanks for explaining the weapon and the strategy you're using with the wizards and the spell being used on Clevatess. Ya know, 'cause it's all so fucking important, I guess. Woof.

Ewwww! The Fragrant Flower English dub.... Ewwwwww! Netflix again fucking over this show. Why did you cast that voice for Kaoruko? It's like she's right out of a 4Kids dub. I had my fingers crossed for "anyone but Xanthe Huyhn" and a fucking monkey's paw granted my wish.

And then only two episodes today? With episode three coming out in a week? When you're this far behind already? Go fuck yourselves, Netflix.

The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King (The Barbarian's Bride) got pushed back to 2026. Along with Sentenced to Be a Hero and Witch Hat Atelier also getting the 2026 heave-ho, my stacked fall season has significantly deflated. No season known yet for Witch Hat but the other two are pushed back to the Winter.

Also, a lot of disappointment with last week's Betrothed to My Sister's Ex and Silent Witch, which are currently my Friday watches.

For the first, it's more so other people being disappointed than me. Unfortunately, Betrothed to My Sister's Ex doesn't have the time to tell the story it wants to tell and is speed-running everything. To be fair, it's been doing this since the beginning. But with the latest episode, the whiplash is more apparent. Part of me was hoping they'd just cut this part out because they don't have the time for it. Specifically, they should've just had Marie not run away. I can completely understand the anime-onlys' frustration. I still like this show but not having the traditional 24-26 episode order really hurts this story. Because this isn't just a Cinderella story but has the b-plot of the sister and the Shederan family's antics.

I've also noticed that anime adaptations (generally) appear to have lost the space to be more ruthless with how they adapt a work. With the disease that's social media, all of the angry, crazy otaku can brigade and complain endlessly whenever something is changed which just seems to lock shows into being too rigid in adhering to source work. At least that's how it feels. Maybe I have a bad take on this.

Anyway, I'm usually all for remaining as faithful as possible but stories like this one cannot fit into 12 or whatever episodes. Marie resolving the remainder of her insecurity is actually immaterial to the overall narrative and all of the references to it should've been cut.

Silent Witch isn't a story issue but it was a clip episode or something. Which [witch!] I wasn't aware of so it was so disappointing when I tuned in on Friday. Meh.

I've been watching/reading this show for weeks. I like it. Very sweet. Fuck a Netflix.

Hate that about Barbarian's Bride, but I had to halt reading the manga given that it's ongoing. Plus, it did that thing a lot of them do where it gets in the middle and drags like RuPaul.

Also, a lot of disappointment with last week's Betrothed to My Sister's Ex and Silent Witch, which are currently my Friday watches.

It's an ongoing bugaboo with me. If the story can't be allowed to breathe, adaptation to the animated medium should not even be attempted.

Anyway. I'm in the same boat as I was. I don't have time to watch all I want to because there's too much getting pumped out, and I'm too old to binge-watch to one or two in the morning and still manage to work for a living. Hell, I've been on vacation all week, and I still can't do it then, either.

I've only watched the first couple of episodes, but Fragrant Flower seems quite good. I don't watch a lot of this genre, so if I had to compare it to something, I'd say it reminds me of Blue Box, which I also enjoyed.

Edit: Forgot about Skip and Loafer. Guess I watch more of this stuff than I realize.

Oh my God, that Yano-kun trailer or whatever had a heinous AI audio dub or some shit on it. At first I thought the show was some sorta meta parody.

Also, last episode of Clevatess was decent until the ending. I felt unsatisfied with the last five minutes or so. On the whole, it's not bad. I just think ending with the rest of the throne scene from chapter 25 would've been a far more satisfying conclusion to the season. Too much time was spent on Blond Spearman running through the town with dead-dude's broken sword. Yeah, yeah, the war's over or whatever. I don't think the show needed to devote any time to that nor the bubble Clevatess is sitting in. This show did get greenlit for another season but maybe it didn't get greenlit soon enough for them to adjust their pacing a bit.

Overall, the show was an A. The show had its off moments with weird exposition and that stupid bug guy wasting our fucking time.  But it also had an interesting world and story to follow. Alicia is a solid yet flawed female bad-ass character that I like to watch. Add her to the pile with Maomao, Frieren, and Anne Shirley. Also... this fucking show made me like the baby. I don't like babies. I really liked the opening and ending music. I was bummed we didn't get to hear Destiny in the final episode.

Betrothed to My Sister's Ex ended. I give it an A-. I like it better than Clevatess but I think Clevatess erred less than this one. The adaptation tried to cram too much in so it does stumble and have pacing issues. There will be viewers annoyed by Marie. The show also took too long to get Anastasia back into the story. But overall, the count and his wholesome family and friends make this show special.

Lady Bloodbath or whatever is kind of decent. A lot of the characters look like they fell off the back of the Code Geass wagon, though.

My concern with this one was always what would happen after the first episode. Like you punched people, now what? I'm not sure of what, but I don't think I care. I might dip back into this one if I hear it gets good. It can be pretty to look at aside from the PowerPoint action scenes. but I don't have any hope for it. The main character has potential but the other characters are a mix of obnoxious and dull. It was weird to have cat-boy try to assassinate her, she punches him, and, like, no one's asking questions or cares? Also, that ED is fucking confusing. Why are you showing the dumb "rival" or whoever all throughout the ED? Show the main character. Jeez, what a choice.

A Wild Last Boss Appeared!
It feels like it's basically Overlord but also nothing like Overlord. Like unflashy, more-boring, monster-lacking Overlord. Which makes my description fucking terrible but I don't feel like digging out the words to describe this. I kind of like some of the concept. I wonder if there are still player characters in this story's world. This wasn't terrible but I also can't call it good. That NPC's fucking annoying. So of course, the ED features her completely: making this yet another fucking retarded ED. Frankly, the NPC kind of ruins the story. Problem? NPC will solve it. Except, no, I want the main character to solve their problem. But the main character is so OP so.... MEH.

The Banished Court Magician Aims to Become the Strongest
aka "Banished from the Prince's Party". Or at least that's what it should be called. Why is a court magician raiding the fuckin' dungeon like an adventurer? I dunno. You've seen this show before. Along with every other "banished from the party" style show. Guy is sooooo strong but humble. Fucking Weiner leads a supposedly strong party of sycophants. They accuse Guy of not pulling his weight even though they have him to thank for their success. Weiner and his Sausage Fiends banish Guy while laughing and smirking. Guy finds Nakama and wheeee. I was curious about it but had expectations so low they're below the basement. This means this show actually delivered.

Dad is a Hero, Mom is a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator
This show is weird. It has a concept that seems cute and interesting: magical parents with reincarnated adorable child. But the Hero guy's too much a big fucking pussy. Bro, people thought you were dead. And, like, he doesn't give a shit and just runs away. Then he returns to meet the woman who tried to force him into marriage. Look out: she's fat and short and ugly and clumsy and oafish. This means she's eeeeeeevil. Like, come on, that's so fucking cheap. What's the fucking point to this character? What story are we trying to tell with this? The episode built this person up as a threat and then she's like a visual gag? Then Hero guy should've gone home years ago and put the bitch in her place. Honestly, it lost me with this shit.

Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!
It's okay. Sometimes the presentation feels clumsy. But Mel and the love interest dude have chemistry with each other and I think that chemistry will save this show for me. I also checked out the manga and there's a bit more to the story than "yum, monsters!" Will continue to watch this.

Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota
MEH. Had a feeling this wouldn't be for me but was curious. It's not terrible. Just rote. Angry Boy x Lavendar Dead-Faced Bocchi.

Mechanical Marie
Fucking dud. Couldn't even finish one episode. The male lead is totally weak sauce. He's not funny, he's not charming, he elicits no empathy from me whatsoever. People are trying to kill this guy. Frankly, I want them succeed so we can follow a more interesting character. Is he in high school? Is he in college? I can't tell. Then the "robot lady" is told that her schooling will be paid for if she acts like a robot. When does she have time to learn anything? She even says in the episode that she has no time to eat unless this dude showers. The world this is set in is a mess. The male lead is a mess. The girl is cute and I'd like to know more about her but this show stinks.

Let's Play
Kinda cringe. This show lost me when they reveal the main character is the CEO's daughter and the daughter of a beautiful actress. Her first video game didn't do well and got savaged online by some obnoxious youtuber? Who cares? She will literally fail upwards as company heiress. The character looks cute but I find her too annoying.

Shabake
Was interesting. Not sure where the story's going but I'll go along for the ride.

My Awkward Senpai
Part of me wanted to like this show. Something about this male lead gets on my fucking nerves though. I hate his design and his voice. I looked at the manga and the art's so cute and stylish. The anime really downgrades it. I think I'll drop this show but the read the manga instead.

The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess
Does this count? It's a manhwa made into a donghua but has a Japanese dub. Or something. It's decent. I hate this girl's dad. I read most of the source material and even though there's, like, magic and circumstances or whatever... I still hate this girl's dad. One of the more decent shows imo. Will watch more. It got me interested.

More stuffs...

My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's
I still have my Crunchyroll sub so I watched this there. I'm not sure why stupid Crunchy keeps defaulting to English dubs. Japanese is my preferred language for shows and it keeps doing this shit. I was on lunch and couldn't be arsed to change it so I went with it. I can respect the choice of making the main character a mini-Batman with the voice actor trying to do that husky psuedo-rasp a lot of live action Batman actors default to. The show was pretty to look at. I didn't find anything particularly bad about it. I just found it uninteresting. I'm not against circling back and revisiting this if I get bored enough. I probably won't though.

A Gatherer's Adventure in Isekai
Another super-bland paint-by-numbers isekai that does nothing fun or interesting. The one thing of note is that the dude basically ends up visiting a village of hobbits. It was nice to see something like a size disparity given 99% of shows are just characters that look the same as the isekai'd person. But otherwise, this is dumb and the world building makes no fucking sense.

Ranma 1/2
Still a dull, dated show. To be fair, I found Hikaru Gosunkugi fucking boring in the 90's. So this episode was probably the worst episode to start back on. Patiently stalking this one for best girl Ukyo.

Yano-kun's Ordinary Days
This was cute. Liked it. Nice to look at and sweet characters. Don't know if I'll watch it all but it was good.

A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace
I'm putting this one in this post because it was technically playing in the background but I got busy with something and didn't pay much attention to it. What I did see didn't interest me but I admit it didn't get a fair shake from me either. Will I revisit this one and give it a proper chance? Meh, probably not.

Plus-sized Misadventures in Love!
This one toes that fine line between being funny and being uncomfortable. Of course you get the classic "ha ha, watch fatty fucking eat" style humor that Japan just can't resist. Sometimes it gets weird, like when she offers a dude water sitting in her dirty, grubby hands. I didn't find that funny, it was just ew.

At the same time, it does have a few jokes that land. It's good when it's being introspective and goofy concurrently but when it's being goofy without having something to say except "ha ha, le fat", it doesn't land. It also does some interesting things in terms of this character's outlook on life and confidence in herself. It goes in hard at the beginning and especially when you realize how depressed this girl was. It also appears to have a potential murder plot of all things so now I'm actually invested in what's going on. The "romantic" stuff, not so much. Her crush on bland-ikemen is probably the least interesting aspect of the show.

Also, this show got review-bombed to shit.  At one point it was around 1.9. I've never seen a show that fucking low. It's no classic but it's not that bad either. So I went and gave it a 5 just to do my part to try and repair the average. At least this show is trying to do something different. Meanwhile, boring gathering isekai and stupid banished court magician get 4.3 or above. The punchy-girl anime has 4.9. What the shit? The same score as fucking Frieren? Get the fuck out.

So far I've pulled a pretty decent crop of shows this season. I'll start culling in a few weeks and give more thoughts at that time.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Finally checked out the first ep of Sanda. It's great. Probably the best first episode I've seen this entire season. It made my list because of Science Saru's involvement but I didn't realize this is a Paru Itagaki work. Paru Itagaki x Science Saru is a fantastic combination. Imagine if Science Saru had gotten to adapt Beastars. (Sorry, but I hate the awkward computer jank look of the Beastars anime.) It's too bad those fuckers at Amazon Prime got their dirty mits on this one. I know, I know, high seas. But I hate Prime Streaming service so much that it cheeses me off when they get good shit.

Edit: Watched the second episode and I'm not sure how much I'm sold on the story and setting. Still, the first episode is really good.

Wandance seems like it could be a sweet story. I don't think I'll stick with it but I didn't hate it or anything. I think some people might find the mocap dancing or whatever it is kinda weird. Kind of like what happened with Rock is a Lady's Modesty when a character was playing an instrument and was mocapped by a Band-Maid member. Except the dancing here looks even wonkier than that. Almost like a piece of spaghetti is dancing.

Even though the characters look weird dancing, it's better than having some still shots that are supposed to depict the dancing. Shows like this would be so elevated if they could just get more budget to make the dancing prettier. It's kind of a shame. The dancing actually looks more expressive in the manga than it does animated.

Also, that main girl in the show. She kind of looks like she belongs in another anime and got put in this show by mistake. She's very cute and pretty, don't get me wrong. Stylistically though, she looks out place.
