A bad movie doesn't take away from the quality of the source material.  Did everyone stop watching Dragonball Z when that life action movie came out?  Did Van Damn's Street Fighter (which I love btw...) make people stop playing Street Fighter in arcardes?

This isn't Retard Wars.   no one's raping your childhood.

Van Damme's Street Fighter was awesomeee

I'd rather Hollywood not assrape one of the best anime programs of all time, thank you very much.

That said, Pattinson would be about the same as Keanu for Spike, which is to say a maximum letdown. These guys have about as much range and charisma as white dried-up Ein poop, and half the intelligence.

Ok no. First off (this answer is more to joe though) Keanu doesn't look his age at aaaall. Must be his half asian genes.

I don't think you should look at Keanu and think about all of his other acting choices (I know you guys says he sucks, but I digress) but think about the similarities between how he is/acts (all serious and shit, with a always lonely vibe) and how Spike is (same way) . ALSO I think he would be soooo good in character since one of the main (if not the number one reason) of why Spike acts the way he does is cause he lost his one love, and Keanu went through the same shit (lost his pregnant fiancee in a car accident, if you didn't know). SO yeah I think it would be perfect.

What childhood? It's pretty hard to rape my childhood in this way when the show wasn't introduced to me until my early twenties :P

But still, there's no reason to talk down to me like to a drooling fanboy with the trite "you don't lose what you love" argument (which is a stretch, as I can't say I *love* Bebop). In this case, I simply don't want Hollywood to to take a very good intellectual property and turn it into shit. Saying that I'll always have the original material neither nullifies that sentiment nor has any bearing on it one way or the other.

Besides, if I were concerned with the sanctity of Cowboy Bebop, I'd be burning in effigy those responsible for the shitfest that was the followup Bebop manga. Holy crap, was that a travesty.
Well I don't really give a shit about Cowboy Bebop, just saying you'd get less frustrated if you wouldn't let someone so unrelated to the thing you like bother you.  I get angry about a lot of shit, but there's absolutely no reason to consider shit in a franchise to affect the good stuff.

[/quote]The problem with that is, Keanu actually is related to the thing...he was going to help produce and star in a Bebop movie.

Agreed...though I would probably hate her ad Faye

I think it starts around 60. I've seen hot as fuck japs that look in their 30s and then I learn they're in their late 50's early 60s. Like my husbando, he's almost 40 and yet he looks like in his early 30s (he's half jap). Same with asian women, they look soooo young and yet they're old as fuck

So its the genes (i'm jelly)

Anyway, I would actually like to see a Cowboy Bebop live action film.  They could do worst than Keanu Reeves as Spike.  They really, really could.  (Like Andrew BARField.)  Also, gotta agree on 'no' to Scarlett or anyone remotely Scarlett-looking for Faye.

Now Amazon's frontpage is recommending me all these pervy animes. Don't they realize P&S is incomparable?

Does it have some of the stuff that wasn't in the episodes?
Does it have a dub? (I'm morbidly curious what was done with it)

I don't know, I haven't opened it yet.

I mean, I've removed it from the packing material, but it's still wrapped in the factory plastic.

I would assume it includes everything available. Most importantly, Chris Sabat is Garterbelt, so that's all anyone really needs to know about that.

From the toonzone review:

Quote
Admittedly, Panty and Stocking wasn’t exactly the cleanest show in its original Japanese, so I’m not claiming FUNimation pulled a Shin-chan by taking a relatively family friendly show and making it filthy, but even so, the dub feels like it’s trying too hard to be edgy. The constant swearing and nicknames for anything below the waist, all written and delivered without wit, gets draining in short order. And while Jami Marchi and Monica Rial are well-cast as Panty and Stocking, respectively, they also don’t feel like very creative casting choices. The only positive thing I can say about the dub is about the opening to episode 3-2, “Pulp Addiction”, where literally every sentence said by some soldiers can double for a sexual euphemism. Yes, it’s sex-obsessed, but at least it has some variety in the sense that it’s enjoyable to see how they take familiar war movie dialog and make it dirty while still playing the scene relatively straight.

The three-disc DVD set includes all 13 episodes (most made up of two shorts each) and the special episode “Panty & Stocking in Sanitarybox”, which is a series of shorts running about 1 to 2 minutes each. The animation is inferior to the TV series but the humor is just as bad. Also included is every ghost explosion from the series, with other angles not seen in the episodes. Accompanying this is a three-part, 40-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the crew filming these explosions. Forty minutes seemed pretty excessive for such a short part of each episode, although it was neat to see the details put into it. The other major feature on disc 3 is a “live commentary” featuring the Japanese cast and crew discussing the show; it runs 23 minutes. The highlight of the video conceptual artwork series of Panty and Stocking; Panty in particular went through a lot of revisions. Also included are some Japanese Panty & Stocking TV ads, an 11-minute making-of-a-live-action scene from the final episode (which required filming a woman in lingerie), 16 minutes of English dub outtakes (as well as recollections of the VA’s favorite moments in the show), textless openings/endings, and the U.S. trailer for the show. There are also other FUNi trailers on disc 2. So if there are any issues with the DVD, they’re not in the lack of special features; there are plenty here.

Crayon Shin-chan is "family friendly"?  All I really know about him was a parody character of his who appeared in Sailor Moon and showed Chibiusa his cock as his elephant impersonation.

Remember back when The Simpsons was considered "controversial"? Don't quote me on this, but I think Shin-chan had a similar reputation in Japan back when it first showed up. Now, it's pretty tame in the grand scheme of things.

But when Funimation dubbed it, they went overboard with the language, trying to make it more akin to something like South Park, and that's really not what the show is about.

Shin chan is on Fridays at 7:30pm (lol yeah i watch it) so it's during a top family time
It's like Sponge Bob Squarepants. Supposedly for kids but has a lot of adult jokes (that only adults would understand)
Also unlike the US that they love to censor the stupidest things ever, in Japan (and in most of the other countries as far as I know) its normal and funny to show a kid's ass on tv or a naked kid doing full frontal and dancing the elephant dance.

It was impossibly stupid-looking, so I didn't bother with it.

I won't consider buying P&SwG until they release it in HD. But since I've had no compulsion to rewatch it, I probably won't be buying it, either.

As for who I'd cast as Spike right this very moment, here's the best would-be candidate I've noticed being bandied about:

CSC?  I only saw some of the dub and it made me giggle a few times, but nothing I had any need to see ever again.  I've read some of the comic strips or whatever w/ Shin-chan and those were pretty amusing.

I liked P&S but, yeah, I don't think it had a whole lot of rewatchability to begin with.  Maybe when it hits bargain bin pricing I'll snap it up.
