New apartment. Huzzah!
« on: Apr 18, 2006, 09:27:49 AM »
So I've finally moved into my new place.  It's in a building that looks a little rundown, but the apartment itself is really nice.  The landlord went to college with my dad and has been a friend of the family my entire life, so that's nice.  He's a contractor with a lot of nervous energy, and the apartment was recently remodeled, which is also nice.  One of the people that live in the building has ferrets, so that's not nice.

Since I've always lived like a hermit, I had next to nothing for furnishing, limited to only a bed, my desk, and a beanbag chair with a hole in it.  The situation is great for college living -- you're poor as dirt and moving constantly.  But I have a real job now and it's probably time to put that style of living behind me.  Since I've saved up some money while living at home, I went out and bought a new living room set; add a 26" LCD tv, surround system, a little kitchen set and all the other miscellanious shit one needs to live alone and my checking account is screaming for mercy.

However, my apartment actually looks pretty nice now.  It almost looks like an adult with some modicum of style lives there.  Of course the adult portion gets tossed out when you wander into the sedond bedroom, filled with boxes and boxes of toys...and the "style" portion evaporates when you walk into my bedroom with the broken Rubbermaid drawers as a makeshift dresser and the unmade bed with the mismatched sheets.  But it's a nice illusion while it lasts.

If I were near enough, I'd bring over a Walmart deli cake to you for a housewarming present.

Style -5!  But I'm sure it would be delicious and cost effective.

So's Maryland.

Our gas is not only 4 cents above the national average, but our Governor's recent de-regulation of energy services is about to result in a 72% hike in the cost of energy...

Congrats on your new apartment.  Are you allowed to paint it at all?  Or is it too nice to paint?

My place is white. I hate it. It's boring... that being said painting would be too much like agreeing that I'm staying here for a long time and I have no desire to do such a thing. This is a temporary arrangement.

That's the problem with renting. Painting once is one thing but you have to paint it all white again when you move out and, especially with a dark colour, it can take a lot of coats of white to cover up.

Use screens or hang fabric.  You could take it with you when you move.

I can't stand white myself.  My room right now is completely hot pink.  I love it.  With my lamp on, it's like I'm in the womb.  A womb with huge curtains and rope lights and a computer.

I don't remember all that stuff being in the womb.  My childhood sucked.

I could probably paint, but I honestly don't feel like putting that kind of effort into it.

I don't know how much rent is there but if the property values have gone up it  happened in the past year and a half.  And when I say cheap I mean they're the same as around here (Tallahassee, FL).

Nuri's room is like a womb.  I never thought of it before.

If I lived near by I would bring a plant or something.  Maybe I can mail you some seeds.

Florida is way too expensive for repossessed swamp land. When the bubble bursts, Florida will be horrid to live in.

Police said Philip Winikoff was arrested after one of the women became suspicious when he didn't use gloves during the exam, WESH 2 News reported.

Investigators said Winikoff apparently carried a medical bag that belongs to his wife, who is a registered nurse. Police said he targeted women who don't speak fluent English and don't have health insurance.

Winikoff is charged with assault and battery.

My room is a color called "Posh Red" on the top half and a Wood paneling on the bottom that has a leather look to it. That's all accented by black trim.

According to today's USA Today, natural disaster-wise Nevada is the best place in the US to live and Texas the worst.  It's not really scientific by any means, but they did it crudely on a eight-point system by counting how many disasters could hit that particular state.  Not a very good measure since Texas is friggin' huge, too.  Two of the disasters that gained us two points, hurricanes and tornados don't really hit San Antonio.  The worst we have is the heat and the occassional flood.  And, I guess the Mexicans, too.

Pfft, Nevada.  No way in hell is that place safe.

I think I could live in San Antonio. The older the city the more I like it, and  I'm pretty tired of the winters up here. Although I'd have to live on the outskirts of town. I'd never get any peace if you dropped me right into the middle of town. Found that out last time I was in Saint Louis.
