So I've finally moved into my new place. It's in a building that looks a little rundown, but the apartment itself is really nice. The landlord went to college with my dad and has been a friend of the family my entire life, so that's nice. He's a contractor with a lot of nervous energy, and the apartment was recently remodeled, which is also nice. One of the people that live in the building has ferrets, so that's not nice.
Since I've always lived like a hermit, I had next to nothing for furnishing, limited to only a bed, my desk, and a beanbag chair with a hole in it. The situation is great for college living -- you're poor as dirt and moving constantly. But I have a real job now and it's probably time to put that style of living behind me. Since I've saved up some money while living at home, I went out and bought a new living room set; add a 26" LCD tv, surround system, a little kitchen set and all the other miscellanious shit one needs to live alone and my checking account is screaming for mercy.
However, my apartment actually looks pretty nice now. It almost looks like an adult with some modicum of style lives there. Of course the adult portion gets tossed out when you wander into the sedond bedroom, filled with boxes and boxes of toys...and the "style" portion evaporates when you walk into my bedroom with the broken Rubbermaid drawers as a makeshift dresser and the unmade bed with the mismatched sheets. But it's a nice illusion while it lasts.
