XP is pissing me off like crazy right now. I'm suprised it works at all.
Week or two ago, I was turning on my computer, and for some reason my computer turned on immediately, rather than me hitting the powet button. Went straight to bios and said something was wrong. Didn't see anything wrong so I went into Windows, only to notice the system time said Jan 31, 2001. That was easy to fix.
Ever since then, Windows has been acting crazy. Sometimes I click on "My Computer" and it freezes, or Windows crashes. Sometimes when I insert my flash drive, I can't do anything with any files anymore, like copy, delete, or open them. I tried right clicking on C drive to do a scandisk and it crashed Explorer every time I did it. I tried doing a diagnostic only to have the program freeze, then when I pressed Ctrl-alt-delete, it said the program had closed, but it was still frozen! Occasionally, I start up the computer, and instead of Windows, I get a black screen. Sometimes the computer can't find the hard drive but Windows works anyway. And that's only the beginning of the insanity.
I asked a guy at a computer repair shop if he had an idea on what to do. He said:
"You should reinstall Windows. That's the only thing I can say. In fact, you should reinstall windows every 6 months to keep your computer running well."
"You mean, reformat the hard drive and start over?"
"Sure. Save your files, wipe the drive clean, reinstall windows, then put your files back."
Thanks for the help.
I feel like one of those people on the Mac commercials. "I once had a pc, but it died on me, now I'm a Mac user!" Oddly enough, my grandfather is taking me to the local Apple store tomorrow for the release of OS X Tiger. I should bring my credit card. <_<
