I took a break from Agents of SHIELD and am watching Luke Cage season 2 now. It's alright so far, seems like it might be on par with the first season, which was alright.

Although, I'm a little frustrated that the Jamaican accent's affectations are not shown in the subtitles.

Ha, ha. I always found that funny myself when shows do that. I guess, it's, like, they don't want to be offensive about it maybe. I could see someone getting butt-mad having their Cajun patois rendered into Wingdings or whatever.

I figured it was more to do with the hearing impaired getting lost in unusual sentences that aren't grammatically working. Could be the offense thing, though.

Such is the two-edged diversity sword.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Watched Luke Cage season 2 as well. I'll say it was a hell of a lot better the JJ season 2 but Iron Fist showing up was the highlight. Made Cage better and iron fist bearable. Really should just jump right to heroes for hire and be done with it.

I haven't finished Luke Cage season 2 yet but I'm awfully tired of this homeopathy shit. I get that it's a big part of the cultures in the show but this girl just told this old pastor to take lavender for pain and I can't deal with it.

I know I should just look at it like magic in a fantasy story but it's intersection with this nonsense in reality is bugging me.

But then they walked that back and made it so that Bushmaster (great pr0n handle) had been the sole survivor of a government experiment on children, and that the nightshade was simply activating the latent powers said experiment had granted him.

Luke Cage 2 was way better than the original. Mostly solid across the board, with much more nuanced villains/motivations.

One thing that still bugs me though is the whole musical guest thing. Like, it's fine when they intercut it with action and/or story progression, but when the show just stops dead so that some dude can play guitar for five minutes straight, that's pushing it.

Yeah, the musical bits in some places were kind of weird. Have you watched Twin Peaks S3 / The Return? They pulled that a couple of times and it just made the show even weirder.

And yeah, they did roll back the magic stuff that was bugging me, it worked out fine I suppose. The doctor lady was still presented as a legitimate doctor pushing "natural medicine" or whatever and that still bugs me.

It was definitely better than season 1.

Finished Cloak and Dagger. It was pretty cool for mostly being a drama-thing more than an action-thing. Characters were mostly compelling, felt like they had real flaws (even if those flaws caused them to do things I wanted to complain about).

Also decided to watch some standups on Netflix. Watched Iliza Shlesinger's Elder Millenial. It was okay.

From that I was referred to Hannah Godsby's Nanette. I did not know what I was getting into. This was partly a comedy special and had some very funny bits but it was also her talking about why she's quitting comedy (I believe she has since said she is doing it again). Lots of emotional description of what it's like to be gay in a society (Tasmania) where being gay was very much not allowed (including being illegal for part of her life). It was heart-breaking to listen to and as much as I didn't want to keep watching (because I thought I was only getting a comedy special), I felt like it would have been disrespectful somehow.

John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City was also fine, nothing spectacular but funny enough I guess.

I also watched Elder Millennial. I told myself if she said the damn words "party goblin," I was gonna shut it off. Didn't hear them if she said them. Probably 'cause she got married so she broke the goblin's neck.

I have to admit that I don't know the reference but I can also imagine her uttering them pretty easily. (I've not watched her specials before this one.)

I watched that too. I haven't watched her earlier stuff so Party Goblin is lost on me as well.

Although them constantly telling me what I'm suppose to hashtag was pretty annoying.

I tried watching The Mayans MC but got bored pretty quickly. I think because of the focus on the cartel. When Sons became more focused on the cartels, it was it's downturn imo. I wish this had started with a smaller story like Sons did: a son missing his dad, scheming mommy and stepdad, and one percenters protectin' their small town life.

I watched the final episodes of Adventure Time. I am satisfied with the conclusion.

And the new season of Venture Brothers has been pretty solid so far.

The Morpho trilogy was supposed to have been the conclusion to season six, but they couldn't make it happen. So they kicked off this season with it.

I've enjoyed it thus far, but I can't shake loose the facts that A) I haven't watched this show since the previous season ended and need to brush up and B) the show was really becoming uninteresting to me between seasons 3 and 5, and 6 saved it.

I finished IF2 and it wasn't as disappointing as IF1, but don't expect me to actually remember anything that happened.

I got around to Daredevil 3. The one thing that can be taken from these productions is they can make some really enjoyable fight scenes (but only in hallways, if it's not in a hallway, it's meh). The long shot in the prison was great (even if belief needed to be a little extra suspended for some of it).

I'm still looking forward to JJ3 and Punisher 2, even if they will be canceled immediately after being published.

Watched She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and fucking loved it. I want more.

Been watching all the Arrowverse shows (except Arrow which I bailed on in like season 3 or 4). The crossover this year was fairly good, though it felt a bit like a big setup for next year.

I continue to love the fuck out of Legends of Tomorrow.

Also Black Lightning, season 1 was better but season 2 is still pretty good.

And the biggest surprise of the year for me: the new Titans show is actually pretty fucking good. I'm looking forward to Doom Patrol and the eventual follow-up season for Titans. There's also Young Justice coming and I'm sure I'll enjoy that as well.

Agents of SHIELD starts up again today, hopefully it's good again. I want more of Chloe Bennett.
It's Gotham that comes back tonight. I got my wires crossed. I guess I'll have to settle for Ben McKenzie.

Flash is uniform, but not uniformly good. It's like I will go long periods between watches, and when I binge it it's always easier to take because it's familiar, but the sameyness has worn off. But until last season, everything really has been cookie cutter. I dropped Arrow a while back because it was mired in its own formula (and got tired of some of the editorial content). I just never got into Supergirl, although I always loved the character (probably due to OG Crisis and Helen Slater) and think the actress playing the role is fantastic. I haven't seen Black Lightning as it wasn't connected to the Arrowverse (at least originally, maybe that's changing with the upcoming crossover?).

However, Legends is unadulterated fun in any capacity.

Watched the first three eps of the Marie Kondo series on Netflix. The episodes run too long (by around ten to fifteen minutes) and so far the subjects have not really been likable. (Exception to the overworked mom in the third episode.) And I'd like Kondo to visit people who are actually trying to make a difference in their lives and attempting to adopt her methods. Going into these giant houses in the first two episodes and talking these Smaugs into culling their hoards is not entertaining or inspirational.

BL still seems to be completely unconnected but is also pretty dang good. There are some things going on in the bigger world that I would expect would be things that would come up on the others but I don't think they have (and the opposite should be true as well). Of course, with Flash, you can always just say he made ANOTHER alternate timeline.

However, I honestly don't think BL will combine to that universe. It feels a bit more serious than the other shows. If anything ever does happen there, it will be in a cross-over of different timelines.

Young Justice: Outsiders was pretty decent. At least on par with some of the other parts of that show going backward. I was surprised at how much gore there is in the show. Not like volcanoes of gibs but they show bloody dead people at least once or twice.

Doom Patrol had it's first episode last week and it was really fucking good. My wife (who hates basically all of the DC shows except for Supergirl) actually enjoyed this one. The cast is fantastic and actually has some interesting names in it. It's really fucking good, guys. Hopefully the rest of the season is as good as the pilot.

Supergirl - I'm not sold on Dreamer being interesting. This might just be because I have no connection with the comic character but I haven't loved the Nia Nal character. She's had some good episodes but the main one that was about her and her family, I found that one dull.

Flash - This season has not been their best but I feel like it could end in a fairly interesting way, so I'm not giving up on it just yet.

Black Lightning - Seeing the younger girl work through her powers and deal with tragic loss has made for a pretty good season. There's been some mentions of Markovia and their meta-human projects and that's pretty neat. (Markovia is a main plot point in YJ:O, but in a fairly different way, so it's interesting to contrast).

Gotham - It's the same as it's basically always been, except now they're cut off from the mainland. Somehow this hasn't caused all the cops to be murdered, or Penguin to be murdered, or Jared Valeska to be murdered, which honestly those are the hardest parts to believe for me. It's ridiculous campy fun, even though it takes itself a little too seriously.

I decided to try to marathon Game of Thrones before the last season comes out. I had seen bits and pieces of season 7 but had no idea what the hell was going on.

I'm finishing season 2 now and although I like the series a lot it's different than what I expected. Definitely not Lord of the Rings. LotR had these amazing epic scenes with giant statues and cities and massive land battles and stuff. I'm expecting massive battles in GoT and so far all the battles have happened offscreen. They'll mention some battle between the Starks and Lannisters and you never get to see it, just some field of dead bodies and shit. Besides the occasional violent and bloody moment the series comes off as like a soap opera drama, lots of talking, characters moving around, character and story development. It's good, but certainly not as epic and war full as expected, although that may change in later seasons. It's not like HBO didn't have the budget. Also, a lot of the appeal of the show seems to be the shock-value element to it as well, which does get a bit old after a while.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Not that I really cared about watching Young Justice: Outsiders, but I'm getting really frickin' annoyed that in the US we have navigate 50 different streaming services to legally watch something while international territories just get all this stuff on Netflix. I will enjoy it immensely when some of these individual streaming services begin failing and sink. I'd love it if it also happened with Disney's streaming service too but no way will Disney let their streaming fail and too many people like jerkin' off the mouse anyway to not pay for the service.

I only use one online media service, and that's BitTorrent. The best uninterrupted stream I can normally get is 240p, and that crap is for the birds. So, if they insist on pushing that route then I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

It's a lot of that but there are some great battles in the series. S2E9 does have one pretty good battle but not at the scale of LOTR battles. S6 and S5 have (IIRC) the most battles. Most of the seasons have some skirmishes here and there and maybe one big story-event-battle episode. There's nothing on the scale of the Battle of Pelenor Fields or the Battle of the Hornburg. More are closer to the defense of Osgiliath, or the skirmish at Amon Hen. There are some larger ones as well but still not really on the scale of LOTR films. There are some solid battles in the series for sure. In the upcoming last season, we might have a particularly large battle as well.

Watched all of Love, Death & Robots on Netflix. Pretty solid overall. Some of them were a little hackneyed, but I didn't outright dislike any of them, and a handful were excellent.
