Everything I learned about baseball I learned from Big Wind Up and One Outs.  I suppose if I had a sports channel, I'd let baseball games play in the background.  But of course, sports like to make it as hard as possible to actually watch them.

I would watch more sports if I could do it without the proliferation of commentators. All they need is a play-by-play announcer. In my college days I actually preferred to hear the games called on the radio than watch them on TV, but A) I'm not the fanboy I once was, and B) our school's good old announcer died and was replaced by a pathetic hack.

Remember when they hired Dennis Miller to commentate Monday Night Football, presumably in order to grow their viewership?

No, it wasn't an episode of the Twilight Zone, it actually happened, I swear.

Oh God, you're right, they just run their mouths.  I can't take the whole "babbling bullshit just to fill in dead air" thing they do these days.  I'd never survive.

No.  :)  Was this before or after 9/11?

Both, actually! He started in 2000 and lasted 2 seasons. I repeat, they kept him for 2 seasons. However, they did replace him with Madden, so that can be considered a real sea change.

It's almost as good as the time they hired Limbaugh to do pregame commentary on ESPN in 2003. They hired him to say edgy, controversial things to get ratings...and then shit blew up over it.

Consequently, I thought Donovan McNabb was overrated when he played at Syracuse--put a good D on him, and he folds like a chair--and that carried into his NFL career. So I guess I was a racist asshole towards McNabb before Limbaugh was.

Been watching some reruns of The Chase on Netflix.  I had only gotten to see a few episodes back when I was staying with my dad and watching his satellite tv, so it was nice to see this on Netflix.  Don't know if I could actually beat the Beast or not but I do get a nice portion of questions correct.  Pretty certain I could rake in more in the rapid fire round than some of these contestants.

Trying to finish all of Curb your Enthusiasm before the new season comes out. I'm on the last ep of season 5 .
Was watching all of the Xfiles , that took me a long ass time. Idk why people are bitching about the latest season, I really liked it. (also DD is still hot as fuck, 10/10 would jump on dat)

My sis loves Mulder but not DD.  And she'll tell people that.  "I love Fox Mulder but NOT DD.  They're two separate people!  :("

I never stuck with the show past ep 1 but I just figured DD's a sex addict and his character seemed to be one, too.

Supposedly he was not a "sex addict" per se, he was a "pr0n addict". Which means he liked to jerk his meat but not go shagging around. Supposedly.

Supposedly.

I guess I'm watching Supergirl now. I've seen three eps (the first with Flash, one before the mediocre CW crossover, and the crappy so-called crossover ep), and I'm not really excited. What I get out of it is that the actress playing Supergirl is insanely cute (not necessarily hot, but cute...it's honestly the only reason I'm watching it), SG is predictably not as superpowered on her show as she is against other CW heroes (as seen last week), there's an unspoken romantic heat between her and Black Jimmy Olsen (a clear case of blackwashing! :P), and her adoptive sister's biggest plot contribution is that she's scared people will find out she's hot for chicks.

Unless they do something to make me like something other than looking at Supercutiepie, I'm going to show everyone my show-dropping superpower.

I'm still waiting for the superhero TV bubble to burst.

It's gotta happen, right?

Soon.

Please, God.

I don't get why Jimmy had to be black.  Wasn't there any other character they could've made black or a pre-existing black character they could've given a bigger role to?  This ain't even Superman and with Jimmy's look... it'd be like making Ron Weasley black.

Oh?  You want it to burst?

Kind of? It's pretty saturated already. Although I guess without them we'd be left with the eternal cop dramas and doctor dramas.

If and when it does, I guess I won't be watching TV anymore. That's about all I watch these days. The only thing else u really watch is the local evening news.

Maybe this is because I'm not a heavy watcher of superhero shows but, from what I've seen, they have the feel of those cop and doctor dramas.  Like, I'm not seeing a huge amount of difference.

Hey, hey, we need a superhero rom-com.  Like, How Superman Met Your Mother or The New (Power)Girl some shit like that.  ABC should've done that shit with that show Selfie instead of wasting John Cho and Karen Gillan like they did.  They could've still played the whole My Fair Lady angle, too.

So I'm watching stuff on a friend's tv via YouTube and came across a guy that was kinda interesting.  I tried to memorize his name and the book he wrote... not because I wanna read it but I'd like to see some more vids of him speaking and fielding questions.  So a couple of hours later, I'm all "okay, so who was that guy again" and my fuckin' memory's failing me.  I'm googling all sorts of things: things he said; what I think the title of his book was; what I think his name is; etc.  And nothing's working.  So I start punching in a bunch of ran-dumb things in hopes of getting a good hit because I know I'll recognize the name when I see it.  My last try consists of "bald declutter speaker book workshop."  Because I remember he had a fuckin' shiny cueball.  My god, his name's "Mellen."  How'd the fuck I miss that?  And how can it be missing "bald" but he was my second search result?

I tried watching Trollhunters on Netflix.  MEH.  Ugly look + beginning in medias res with high stakes battle that I can't give a shit about instead of working to hype just like we spoke about in "Beast and the Boy" + overly explainy dialogue + cardboard characters = YAWN so I shut off the first ep half way through.  Too bad.  It had a hint of something interesting.  When the trolls were fighting in the beginning and needing to avoid the shadows, that was a piece of interesting lore.  I would have liked to see more, but I wasn't going to ride the shit-o-coaster it was tethered to.

Tried watching the new Lemony Snicket series on Netflix, agree with this review: Netflix’s take on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events embraces weirdness and not much else.  The new adaptation is weighed down by its own melodrama.

tl;dr - the show has a unique look to it, kids and Neil Patrick Harris are pretty good, everyone else is a mixed bag, the story and dialogue has some wit but is all bogged down by shit pacing and being too fucking weird to the point of being awkward.  Also, and this isn't in the review, but Patrick Warburton mumbles his lines a fuckin' lot.  Like, dude, why do I need subtitles for your ass if you're speakin' English?  And he's playing a snide narrator character, but he sounds tired and like he's chewing half an oatmeal pie in his mouth.  The show would've benefited by casting someone like Dana Carvey or Norm MacDonald instead.

Only seen the first ep of Series of Unfortunate Events but I quite liked it actually.
Certainly a lot better than Stranger Things, which a lot of my friends were raving about but I couldn't sit through for more than one ep

Ha ha, no disagreement on that part.  I'm not even interested in Stranger Things.  I think Merla watched that like two or three times.  At no point did it threaten to hook me in.

I just finished watching Red Dwarf XI. It was actually pretty decent. I feel like I enjoyed it more than the two previous series, which were kind of iffy. XI is a return to form, and I hope XII follows suit.

Tried watching the new Lemony Snicket series on Netflix

Did you know the little girl from the Lemony Snicket movie is completely naked (full frontal) in a movie?  I feel its dirty (in a bad way, not in a hot way) when these child stars suddenly go balls out in a movie.

I'll be honest, I can't even remember what happened in X, I just recall being pissed off about it for some reason.

Might have just been in a bad mood when I watched it.
