Ugh, so I saw a few eps of Mr. Robot. What a fucking mess that is. I planned to marathon it as the first ep showed a lot of promise. Then it just barreled itself downhill. Shit, I don't even know where to start on this. Too much sex (we had to watch this weird bitch get tied up and gagged WHY) and drugs, stupid hallucinogenic bullshit unreliable narrator, too many just plain unlikable fucks.  After it began leading up the creepy rapist again, I just quit. Read spoilers and it continues into a shit show. Anyone a little likable is killed, phased out, or is just not real. Bleh.

I was wondering if I should get on board with Mr. Robot.  I guess that's a no go.

I finished Preacher the other night. Really wanted to like it. Super impressed with the first couple episodes, but then it began its decline, and really fell off at the end. I think it's because there's zero gravitas, everyone always plays everything off as a joke. Even the big climax should have been horrific, all things considered, but it was just like, "Haha! Oh well, too bad for them!"

It's prompted me to pick up the trades, though.

Also, Stranger Things. Really liked that, but I was bound to because it really tugs at those '80s kid heartstrings. Part of me wishes it had been longer, but the pragmatist in me knows that probably would have just meant needless filler and tangential storylines for side characters. I'm curious if they'll do another series.

Next I'll probably jump into Powers season 2. Hopefully they got a bigger budget this time, because the sets, costumes, and effects in the first season were just depressing.

I don't know whether to hope you like it or not since it's been canceled.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. Honestly, the fact it even got a second chance is surprising. I'll still watch it.

I was wondering if I should get on board with Mr. Robot.  I guess that's a no go.

Do you like Dexter?  Do you like Fight Club?  Throw in a bunch of computers and a totally suspicious black hoodie.  You now have Mr. Robot.  Apparently.  I've seen a lot of comparisons to Dexter and Fight Club.  A few people called it the next Breaking Bad.  Maybe my problem is that I care about none of those things.

I'm not interested in this but Merla seems to enjoy it.  I think she's on her second viewing of it.  Season 2 already confirmed.  Season 2 of Voltron also already confirmed, btw.  Netflix at this point seems pretty cool about going forward with their exclusive material.  The show's gotta be a real sack of tits not to at least get renewed for one more season.

I liked Fight Club back when I was the appropriate age to like Fight Club. I liked Dexter back before it deviated horribly from the books. If it's the next Breaking Bad it's sure taking its sweet time building up steam.

I like how you segued from talking about Merla to talking about Voltron. I see what you did there!

Olympics.  I wasn't gonna bother but fam is watching so I was like, okay, I'll watch.  Now I'm remembering why I didn't want to bother.  I wish everyone could cover the Olympics.  I'd like the choice of just switching channels and watching nothing but three hours of ping pong.  And I'm sick of the interviews.  I want to see actual events.  I don't care who married, shat out a baby, how they have perfect SAT scores, or whatever the fuck.  I get why people DO care and that's fine.  But I tuned in to see events and it was like a bit of swimming and then three interviews or something.  MEH.

The last thing I tried to watch was the Netflix series Strangers Things because a lot of my friends were going crazy about it on Facebook.
But for me it was meh. I might have liked this series in the 90s but I've seen so much better since then.
Gave up on it after the 2nd episode

Been watching Last Chance U. It's a Netflix show filmed at the community college ten miles north of where I live. Apparently it's done well enough to warrant a second season.

NBC being dicks as usual is showing a bunch of Olympic-related things and not actual events.  Like, inspiration-pr0n level bullshit.  'My country was terrible.'  'It was always my dream as a child blah blah.'  'Look at us, we're hosting the Olympics and we're so silllllly.'  Anchor-wank has ramped up to 11.  Because the Olympics are "more than sports."  They actually said that.  "More than sports."  No, they're not.  It's nothing but sports.  A shitload of sports.  That's, like, the whole fucking point.

The only Olympics I'll ever cop to watching is Laff-A-Lympics.

I'm a sucker because I'll come across something like an indoor volleyball match (earlier today) and I'll sit and watch it like "ohhhhh" but then NBC has to shit on the moment by cutting away to an interview or something stupid like that.  Yesterday, there was another volleyball match announced and I was like "no, I'll be suckered into watching this" but it was just male players so I shut the tv off.  :glare:

Danny McBride is very one note. I feel like the awesomeness of Goggins would be severely tempered by the lameness of McBride, resulting in an overall mediocre TV show.

Although I haven't watched it myself, so I can't pass judgment.

McBride's one of those guys whose name I know and I know he's a famous person but, fuck me, I don't know why.

They lost me at the farting, shitting Wal-mart.  "Lost me" as far as me seeking out the show and watching episodes in full.

Oh look, I founds it!

It seems that Wal-mart one was from S8.  WOW.  I wasn't viewing it religiously or anything but I stuck with that a while.  I remember getting into South Park late, but it couldn't have been that late because I bought a bunch of eps on VHS and those apparently were released around 1998.

I was in from the start. I remember watching the first episode on a wed night back in like 97. Was really confused why they'd kill a main character in the first episode '(Kenny) but got the joke when the 2nd episode did the same thing. But around like season 7 I stopped going out of my way to see new episodes, still thanks to reruns I think I've seen almost every episode.

I wanted Daria with Trent.  It would've been okay if things hadn't worked out.  It would've been realer in fact and then Daria has to repair her relationship with Jane.  Tom should've been gone after two episodes.  I know that's not what we were talking about, but my brain connected to that thought.  I think because cable/satellite tv has always been viewed as a 'treat' in my mind.  While all the other kids talked about Ren and Stimpy or Liquid Television, I had to rely on it being on at my cousin's house the next time I visited.  I spent one very depressing Christmas with Beavis and Butthead.  Not depressing because of who I spent it with, but they sorta defined the lowness of the moment. /nice blog

I watched Bo Burnham's Make Happy and what.  I think I liked what better than Make Happy.  I also saw two other comedians: Moz Jobrani and Jimmy Carr.  Both were decent but I enjoyed what more.  I only shut Jimmy Carr off early because I was already getting sleepy.

Don't forget, all of Luke Cage is now available to watch on Netflix!

Not sure if I'll watch one per night until I'm done, or just go full zombie mode and try to view as many as possible in a single sitting.
