Saw Kaze Tachinu. Was prepared to cry like a bitch but it didn't happen. I knew what was going to happen to the girl to begin with so maybe thats why.

forgot to add: it was an ok movie....i guess. I can't see someone that doesn't enjoy ghibli movies liking this one though

I'm in no hurry to see it myself.

I saw half of Puss in Boots.  Chuckled a few times.  Don't know if I really want to finish it.

Turns out I didn't.  I mailed it back without completing it.  Nothing of value was lost.  The egg was too annoying.  I wasn't gonna sit through a whole movie of that.

Merla and I watched Megamind.  The first six minutes or so should've been snipped.  Because it was stupid.  What's the point of a movie where you end up rooting for the villain but you make him pathetic and sad in order to gain audience approval?  I mean, this is the same method movies use to get us to root for the "good guy."  He should've just been evil, period.  Then he falls in love.  And now he's good.  There's your movie.  None of this Superman backstory and school yard nonsense.

Also the Jonah Hill character disturbed me.  He was super rapey.  Probably the rapey-ist cartoon character ever.  And I kinda thought, 'well, so are Gaston and Pepe LePew.'  But I think in Megamind, that particular character just reminded me too much of actual guys I've met or actual news stories that end up with the woman raped or killed.  In fact, he wanted to kill the woman who rejected him.  And he almost did several times. I mean, I've never met a guy who declares I'll be birthing him six or seven strapping boys like him.  But there are several delusional dudes that think because you're nice to a girl, she's your girlfriend or you can claim her.  Or if you somehow save her, she owes you.  And the movie plays that shit for laughs.  And I guess I'm supposed to laugh that Megamind is a murderer, stringing Fake Lois Lane along and kissing her.  I just shook my head the whole time.

I was able to finish it.  Will Ferrell was awesome as Megamind.  They had a good start here.  But the story needed work.  And whoever thought the continued violation of a woman's trust was humorous (because she is betrayed by the hero, the villain, and the other villain in really horrible ways) needs to be barred from the story process.  They probably aren't though.

Watched Ghost in the Shell: Arise 4. I thought it should go in the anime thread, but these have a feel more like the original movie, but better. Kusanagi looks off in her "younger" body, but she still got skills. The supporting cast seems to have more characterization in these videos, too, which is a nice turnaround, even if Togusa is still the perpetual rookie.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Merla and I saw The Thing for the first time.  Yes, the 1982 John Carpenter one.  It was showing as part of Alamo Drafthouse's Tough Guy Cinema.  So our first time watching it was on a giant movie screen.  Which was neat.  She didn't recognize Keith David.  Meanwhile, I was all "duuuude, Keith David!"

Why oh whyyy is Scarlett Johansson being considered for the lead of Ghost in the Shell? She doesn't have the body or anything for the matter. Ah Hollywood. Well at least it wasn't any fucking person from Will Smith7s family.

Watched Annabelle. I like it, the ending sucked tho. Also had many of those jumpy moments (don't remember how you call those). I wish they would have chosen to use the real doll (well not the real real one but one that looks like the original) because IMO that one is much scarier since it looks innocent

I don't think I want Ghost in the Shell to be live action period.

I saw the Conjuring....eh. I actually spent most of the time going "This is a nice house. I really like this place." Instead of being scared so much.

Oh, you and your husbando.

I watched Snowpiercer because a handful of tumblrs and sites I go to were raving about it.  It was a good concept but it couldn't decide what kind of movie it wanted to be.  It builds upon tension and horror so well but then it had some really stupid things happen.  Like, "let's stop our mass revolt for freedom and celebrate the new year" stupid.  For being a huge train supporting humanity, the setting actually felt very, very small.  As in too small to be able to support humanity.  And apparently we're supposed to be horrified that the protein bars are large, clean-looking bugs.  Firstly, where the fuck did all of those bugs even come from?  Second, bugs are kinda one of the least horrific things someone could end up having to eat in a post-apocalyptic society without a steady food source.  Thirdly, treating this as a vomit-inducing horror is pretty damn insulting to all the cultures that actually do eat insects.  Fourth, what the fuck did he think the protein bars WERE?  It had to be protein from somewhere.  Various set-ups and situations just left too many questions, which made the movie feel kinda sloppy.  Loved some of the actors in it.  Tilda Swinton really sells her performance.

Tilda Swinton is awesome in Constantine, just fyi

Watched the extra scenes from the extended version of the Desolation of Smaug. I am glad they showed what happened with Thorin's dad (they should have shown that in the cinemas) and I am also glad they showed the real (and funny as hell imo) way Gandalf introduced the dwarves to Beorn.
Luke Evans is super hot btw.

A Million Ways to Die in the West: Actually a lot better then I expected. Had an actual story unlike most episodes of Family Guy.

Transformers 4: ugh...so bad. I've never walked out of a movie before, but had I saw this in the theater I might have done it here. I actually turned the movie off with over a half hour left in the flick. Did I mention that they spent 10 mins explaining why it is ok to fuck an underage girl in Texas thanks to a loophole in the law. Yeah they did that. Me..I think it would have just been easier to make the character 18 and avoid all pervy aspects of the thing, but I think the screenwriter wanted to tell us why it is ok for him to deflower high school girls.

Django: Unchained: By far the best movie I have seen lately. Really awesome all the way around.

Django's on Netflix.  I might chell it out.

I saw Yes Man.  It was okay.  Jim Carey wasn't too annoying.  Zooey did that quirky cute shtick 95% of her career is built off of.  Von Iva as her backing band made her singing tolerable.  Bradley Cooper's face was even manageable.  I chuckled a few times.  Jim and Zooey as a couple was pretty squick though.  And I'm saying that for a movie where a little old lady gave Jim Carey and his friend hummers.  It gets a B, I guess.

I think I've pretty much checked out of SW at this point.  Unless I hear of something about it that really interests me and draws me back in, I probably won't bother with it.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Saw it back in the summer. Saw part of it again a month ago. Not the best Marvel movie but still one of the better ones and certainly one of the best movies this year.

X-men - Days of Future Past.
Not sure why people say this is the best X-men ever... I still like First Class better. Wasn't a horrible movie. Was pretty enjoyable. But I can't figure out Magneto's obsession with moving large American landmarks for no major reason (Golden Gate bridge in Xmen 3, the stadium in this movie). Was that really necessary?

Also, another thing that bugged me in this movie was the technology that popped up. This movie's set in the 70s. And yet we have Cerebro with EYE SCANNING technology, Dinklage with a holographic screen, ROBOTS that can scan people's DNA.... da fuck? Dinklage's mutant DNA scanner shouldn't even existed in the early 70s. The Sentinels, while I'm glad they finally showed up, looked too futuristic for early 70s technology.

Transformers Bore... i mean 4.
Because seriously, I was falling asleep halfway through this crapfest. I actually refused to see this in theaters and was glad when friends said they hated it "I told you! I told you not to waste your damn money!" I ended up renting it on a free Redbox rental so none of my money goes to Bay-child.

So, let me see, what to hate about this movie.
This movie suffers from way too many Bayisms. What's a Bayism? Something that's in EVERY FUCKING Bay (and every Transformers) movie because that manchild thinks it's good cinema. For instance:
- Racism. There's a fucking Samurai robot. Really? And the black chick at the beginning. Add to that:
- Jokes about old people. There's a scene with the main characters running through a Hong Kong building, robots are battling outside, and they get blocked by a bunch of old grandmas walking slow and oblivious to their surroundings. Oh hur hur, that's real funny Bay. Remember when I called him a manchild?
- Annoying fucking main characters. Seriously, why is it in every Bay movie there's this annoying main character who talks ALL THE TIME, stutters, never shuts his fucking mouth, and is usually a coward? Comic relief? Really? A prime example of that is the conspiracy nut in the first three movies. There were two in this movie, Yeager's assistant (who thankfully dies early in the movie), and the CEO of the robot company. Especially the CEO of the robot company... why is there always a character like this in a Bay movie? No one fucking acts like this in real life!
- Product placement. ALL THE FUCKING PRODUCT PLACEMENT. God damn the product placement.
- Robots that talk during battle. I don't know why Bay does this but about the only time the Transformers actually talk is during battle, and it's so muffled you're not even sure the other characters caught it, let alone you. It's like Optimus and Bumblebee is having this intricate conversation while dodging missiles and shooting back.
- GM product placement. Bumblebee was awesome as the old black Camaro, and then halfway through they were like "LOL BRAND NEW GM CAMARO BUY THIS SHIT WHEN YOU LEAVE THE THEATER" and then Bay gets his god damn chell from GM.
- Jailbait in whore clothes! This times 1000. Yeager's daughter is this the whole damn movie. Bay loves to trot around underage ass in the most skimpy whore clothing you could ever fucking imagine. That's probably why he stuck that "Romeo & Juliet" law shit in there, to justify his ephebophilia.

Also, Yeager's overprotective dad bit just got old real fast, and the Dinobots were tacked on at the end for no reason. Blah.

There were some good things about the movie. Shia wasn't in it, so that was a plus. Neither was Megan Fox. Also, despite Walberg's character being kinda annoying with the whole Dad bit, he was world's better of a main character than Shia ever was. Also, Kelsey Grammer's character was somewhat interesting as a CIA director willing to violate people's freedoms (and murder, apparently) just to keep America safe. Although the fact he was actually doing it for money kinda killed that. Also, NO JIGGLE CAM THIS TIME!
Also, there were many Cameos of Detroit areas in the movie. The first battle with Optimus and Lockdown (the bounty hunter) is filmed at the old Packard plant, and the battle in China is filmed in downtown Detroit (the elevated train is the Detroit People Mover). Also, I have to admit I'm a bit curious about the "Creators" that Lockdown alludes to several times.

In the end the movie wasn't quite as crappy as 2, and was probably somewhat less good than 4.

Hell just ignore my ranting and watch these:
(So bad they needed two Sins videos)
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Yeah Transformers 4 was yet another horrible installment of the movie franchise, but I'm still gonna see the next one because giant robots.

I thought X-men DoFP was ok, but I thought the end was a bit stupid. I didn't get why Magneto was all like 'ok you foiled my plans now I just quietly float away', at that point he could have just dropped a ton of metal on the politicians anyway and still won the day.
