Actually I do torrent, but only when stealing high speed from someone else. Maybe once I week I get an hour or two of high speed access and I save up everything I want to watch or download and do it then.

Killing Them Softly.

I liked it, but it wasn't terribly original. It paints the familiar picture of organized crime being populated by unglamorous, mundane fuckers that we've seen plenty of times already over the past twenty years. I did enjoy the final scene, which basically plays out as a condemnation of all humankind. At least that's how I took it.

It had some funny moments but I've seen it all before. Then again my expectations were low since I'm not that big a fan of Seth McFarlane's tv shows either

I wish I was seeing the Hobbit tonight as I loved LOTR movies and this was a movie I was REALLY looking forward too, maybe even more then Skyfall. Sadly...my money has to go to X-mas presents and gas, so no Hobbit for me till next Friday.

I saw the doc Heckler today. It started off very, very good when it was about stand-up comics and hecklers. Then it got to film critics, treating them as hecklers which was already a stretch in my opinion. But then it moved on to the internet, treating them as hecklers as well. Yes, there's a lot LOT of shit on the internet but jeez. And it wasn't as if the film explored people who go to official fan pages and such to troll. Or even internet bullying or stalking of a performer. It started in about people reviewing shit from their own domains and blogs. Kinda like when Jay and Silent Bob go and beat up people talking smack on them on the internet except with Jamie Kennedy and some other goobers whining about feelings and shit.*

I mean, really?

Navigate away from the fuckin' page. If you think the person writing it is a basement-dwelling loser virgin with no right to an opinion, then why are you on their website reading their opinion and being so hurt about it? Yet you're free to make sexist and racists jokes because it's a part of your craft? Whatev. That really brought down Heckler because one minute we're exploring a reaction like that guy from Seinfeld who attacked hecklers with the n-word; the interview segments that were subsequently shown in Heckler kinda defended that in the "well, it's stand up comedy" and "who isn't racist bullshit" and "he just reacted to a heckler" vein of things. None of that being verbatim, but that's what I got from it. And that's a legitimate angle to see it from. The problem is that we go from something like that to "asshole film critics and internet twats are insulting my craaaaaft baaawww my feeeeelings". And I think dealing with a person who comes to your show and makes live disruptions is apples to the oranges that is mostly-anon internet bullshitting. Also, Jamie Kennedy apparently made Heckler in the first place due to negative reactions to his apparent masterpiece Son of Mask. I won't even comment on that last part because god forbid Jamie Kennedy googles himself one day, sees it, and cries.

*Jon Lovitz had a valid reaction being kinda horrified at a blog apparently dedicated to killing him. But as for the rest, it was mainly people doing movie reviews for shits and giggles.

tl;dr - Heckler was good until it started whining and equated viewers not liking shit to getting heckled live while on stage.

The Hobbit.

I don't know what to think about all the stuff they added that wasn't part of the original story. I'm pretty sure I didn't like it. Also, some scenes were way too fucking verbose. It was really obvious how much they were stretching out the running time.

But overall, not bad. My favorite scene was easily the escape from Goblin-town. To me, it evoked the greatness of LoTR more than anything else in the movie.

Merla and I are conflicted about seeing the Hobbit. I want to and I will see it eventually. But the bloat that has to be there concerns me. I'm worried about something like this even though I know this is a joke.

I read LotR and the Hobbit way before there was even talk of movies.
Don't mind being spoiled tho, it's not like there are a lot of intricate plot twists in the story.

You might want to eat your Wheaties before taking on LOTR. It's a dense read, at least until you get used to the style. Tolkien really wanted you to know everything about a scene before getting to anything resembling relevance. But what it loses in tight prose it gains in atmosphere and the stimulation of imagination.
