Firstly, Liam Neeson and Maggie Gyllenhaal had already left a sour taste in my mouth. And I do not like Bale as Batman. So then we had Hathaway as Catwoman, which I wasn't wild about. Next we get Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, and JGL. Because it's all, "hey, I'm directing Batman, let me invite all my friendsafklgvwkr;b". Even if it means utterly whitewashing two characters (Hollywood, this shit is tiresome) and making up a you-know-who [Yeah, I'm trying to avoid spoilers, btw, because forbid someone enters this thread and is U SPOILD BATMN!!!EIRDlk] when he had several pre-existing ones to choose from. (Since when was that part of the character's real name anyway? Bleh.) I don't doubt the cast has good actors in it but they aren't the only good actors out there. I think Bane and, ahem, Miranda could've used more fitting actors.
If you needed to be reminded, I found Batman Begins as a giant borefest. TDK was decent, but it was Nolan's first Batman that I had watched. While entertaining for what it was, I was not exactly hungering for more. Me seeing the last Batman depended on Nolan casting people I'd actually feel like sitting through one of his movies to watch and this cast didn't cut it. I was curious enough to read a crapload of spoilers and none of what happened in this film interested me in the least. I'm ready for a new Batman and new director at the helm.
Ok spoiler here...cause I want to rant and I can't do that with out spoiling. So be warned...
Alright here we go. First off I want to say that the white washing of Bane was the least of the problems with him. First off I'm gonna say I hate Bane. I always have and always will. But here I swear that Sean Connery came in to do the ADR for Bane. This movie shouldn't have been Bane...it should have been Two-Face. Dent's shadow looms over this movie in the first half, I think I would have rather seen Two-Face at the heart of this plot, seeking his revenge after he has been made a symbol. I would have loved to see that Dent wasn't dead and escaped and sought to destroy the Gotham that his false image has helped create. It also doesn't hurt that Two-Face is my 2nd favorite Batman bad guy behind Joker. So Bane is just all kinds of wrong here for me.
2nd...after only a year of being Batman he takes 8 years off? Do what? Ugh...just ugh.
And then having Talia being the child that climbed out of the prison totally killed the fact that Bruce had to also climb out of that same prison to become Bane's equal. Totally killed it. It didn't have any meaning after that.
Ok, no mention of Joker. I didn't think this would be problem, but in this movie it is. If all this happened Joker would do something. Joker would have opposed Bane, so something had to have happened to the Joker. Either he died in the last eight years, Bane killed him, or Bane left him in the prison cause he was too dangerous, like Bruce, to have running around. But he isn't even mentioned. A different story you could have got away without mentioning him..but this story it is hard to believe that he isn't brought up. Especially since Scarecrow shows up again.
Given all of that...the Anne Hathaway Catwoman was a saving grace. I didn't like her much before this, but it was a bright spot of this movie and I wish her role had been bigger...but whatever. Also that burning the Bat into the bridge was stupid and very crow like. He should have used the Batsignal...but he didn't. ugh....just ugh. And when JGL showed up and talked to Bruce (which I liked JGL in this actually) and as soon as he did I was like "So what...he is gonna be Robin" and Bam..he is. I just couldn't have picked apart TDK like this, but I can do it here and it is just not as good.
