Oh no...I love Han Solo. But really Han Solo wasn't the Alpha Male of SW. In A New Hope Obi-Wan Kenobi was, then in ESB and ROTJ Luke was. Actually now that I think about Tygra isn't the Alpha either...Lion-O is, and even if he wasn't Panthro would be. And Flynn...well actually he wasn't either. He was a loner, then he let Rapunzel boss him around. Even that horse made him his bitch.

I guess I just like my Alpha Males more Indiana Jones, and less Right Said Fred.

I don't care if you take it in the ass from indy or fred, but we're not talking about animals. It's a personality type.

There can be more than one alpha male role in a movie/show.

I thought both Flynn and Rapunzel where both pretty annoying. Flynn just seems like a total douche. I mean I know we get a scene later on that lets us know he acts that way due some deep rooted insecurities (much like IDE), but still the guy needs to be at least kinda like able if we are to believe he is gonna end up with the girl here. I mean that stuff he does is funny, but he needs to at least show some cracks of his later potential. Instead it is all "Here comes the smoulder."
Flynn was your typical bad boy, and I thought it was funny how quick everyone was to forgive a thief.

Rapunzel's hot.  Mandy Moore can't be associated with anything and not make it hot.

Quote
And I liked Rapunzel better with short brown hair. I know that short defeats the purpose of a Rapunzel story and I don't care. But really Blond=Magical. Ugh.
Well yeah you can't just make it not be a long blond haired Rapunzel.

And Pascal is awesome!

I liked Tangled. I was so distracted by the fact that Disney was finally doing CG right that I probably overlooked a lot of problems.
I liked Bolt as well!

The Christmas Martin. Some of your Canadian fellows might have seen this one as a kid. I was watching it for what is currently being called "Untitled Bad Movie Project starring Vlad". Hopefully that will make sense soon. The movie was exactly the right kind of cheese. Having two problems with this one though.  One is tracking down the rights. The video is OOP, but that doesn't mean it is Public Domain in the US. The fact that it is Canadian might though. I know a lot of Italian films are PD just for the fact that they are Italian and the required number of years have passed. The 2nd problem is getting a good copy of it. It has only been released on VHS, and never on DVD. So the copy I have was downloaded and was clearly a rip from a less then stellar VHS copy.

I liked that little critter.  Him and Rapunzel.  I wish the movie had been more about them and less about the Flynn character and those other losers.

The chameleon was cool, but I constantly found myself wishing he could speak. He'd be voiced by Ludacris, and there would be a rap segment inserted unobtrusively somewhere in the middle of the film. He'd stare at Rapunzel's ass frequently and have various exclamations such as, "Dayum, girl," and "What-what," and at one point he'd ask her if the carpet matches the drapes, "Cuz dat would be nasty!"

Anyway... I watched a documentary last night called "Waiting for Superman".  It's about problems with the US public school system.  Actually it's an anti union movie that makes horrible arguments, uses shit logic and tells the viewers that we should hate the teachers union.  I did not care for it...

Here's my new movie of the year that I've been talking about on my FB, it's hitting DVD on the 18th I think.
Seriously, it's magnificent.

feature=player_embedded#!

sooo, I watched about a third of The Last Circus on the Netflix and I turned it off. Damn you and mostly damn that trailer for making me think that movie was going to be good.

Hmm, I've been gone for 3 months and can't remember what I've seen so I'll just go by what I saw recently.

At a con a couple weeks ago I saw Last Airbender in their MST4k panel and dear god did I hate the acting in that movie. There was this one actor... one of the firebenders.. that... I just wanted to beat him to death with a brick, he was so wooden he made Keanu Reeves look emotive. I could't even tell WHY the fire nation wanted to destroy everyone else, there was no "grr angry" moments, just "we're bored so let's attack these people. yawn." Gah. Oh, and best commentary paraphrased: "I now know why they chose that kid to play the airbender. His acting blows."

Enthiran
So I'm at the thanksgiving party, the one where we're watching the shitty new Loony Toons that I ranted about in the other thread, and someone decides to put on something better.

Enthrian is a Bollywood movie about a robot. Yes, it's THAT Indian robot movie. The one with the 9 minute video on youtube where the robot does matrix shit on a highway, then replicates and becomes a giant sphere and stuff. And it's GOOD. Well, good in a "it's so bad it's good" way.

My only big complaints were that it was too long. It's 3 hours long, and about 3/4ths of that are either talking scenes or bollywood dance numbers. And it can be slow at times. But there's enough outrageous moments to keep a group of people entertained. Including a bit where the robot talks to a gang of mosquitoes that talk all gangsta. Or a bit where they suddenly start dancing AT Machu Pichu. And the dance numbers were mostly boring, but some of them were over the top enough to be enjoyable.

The really good part of the movie doesn't start until 30-40 minutes before the end. And it's good because it's just so way over the top. I'd say this movie is best watched with friends, and even better watched with friends while drinking. You could even make it into a drinking game.
If they use shitty engrish, drink a shot
if the subtitles are badly translated, drink a shot
if you can practically SEE the wirework, drink a shot
if the audience goes "what the fuck!" or shows signs of shock or awe, drink a shot
if the movie starts a bollywood musical number, drink the entire fucking bottle.

My only changes if I did the movie would be to shorten it and remove the dance numbers.
I like to go down to the playground and watch the kids run and jump and scream, because they don't know I'm only using blanks.

Modern anime is a stagnant cesspool of regurgitated ideas.

Conan The Barbarian (2011)

Not as bad as I feared, but not as good as I hoped as a Conan fan. The one silver lining was I really liked Jason Mamoa as Conan. I was a little unsure about that when it was first announced, but the guy looks and acts like Conan of the books. One bit of casting I didn't like was Ron Pearlman as Conan's father. Not cause I don't like Ron, but just cause every time he was on screen all I was thinking was "That's Ron Pearlman." and couldn't just think "That's Conan's dad." Kinda wish they'd got a lesser name for that role. I didn't have the same problem of thinking "Oh there is Ronan Dex" when Mamoa was on screen...or thinking "Hey it's that chick that use to fuck Marylin Manson." when Rose McGowan was either.

And if you are gonna spend the kinda cash it takes to get Morgan Freeman to be the Narrator, why not just get ,the original Thusla Doom, James Earl Jones to do it? Fuck when he started in with the whole "In the time between when the oceans drank Atlantis...and the rise of the sons of Aries..." I half expected him to start in on the life of Penguins during the Hyborian age.

Another thing I didn't like is that is almost the same story as the first Conan film, but they did throw in some references to the original stories I did like. Like saying that Conan was the one that stole the "Elephant's Heart"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tower_of_the_Elephant). Also many of the towns and places where taken straight from the stories too. I kinda wish they had based the screen play more on existing stories. Maybe combine several of them into one grander tale. Oh well...

Watched "The Beaver" with Mel Gibson last night. I thought it would be pretty silly kind of stupid comedy about a man who talks through a puppet.  I was wrong.  Dead wrong.  It's not a comedy on any level, it's a serious drama about depression and it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life.

Clerks 2.

I think this is my new favorite Kevin Smith movie, replacing Mallrats. In Mallrats defense though when it was my fav. There were only three Kevin Smith movies. Also I saw it like 97 and really all I cared about was doing the kinda stuff Brodie Bruce did, so I could relate to the film. But as time went on and grew up a bit things changed a bit, and by the time Clerks 2 came around I found I related much more to the story in that movie then I did Mallrats. I understood this movie and where it was coming from better, and thus liked it more. Course sadly this was also the peak and shit started going downhill after this one and now I have no desire to see another Kevin Smith movie.

Plus any movie with a Pussy Troll, and two people declaring their love for each other during a donkey show, must be good.

I watched this doc called "Reel Injun" about how Indians/you know, the folks that were here first/Native Americans were fucked over by the film industry in regards to fair portrayals.  It's okay, but tries too hard to educate the viewer on native peoples in general which makes like a boring episode of Nature combined with a more interesting discussion about native people in film.  I guess you need the background information, but those parts dragged enough to almost make me shut it off a couple of times.

Deathly Hallows Part 2. I was happy that they showed some stuff that was kinda not explained in the book...but then they changed stuff that didn't need to be changed too. So it was...eh, but a good eh.
