Tron - Looks good despite its age. Or maybe BECAUSE of its age, it has a sort of retro feel to it now.
Dark of the Moon - Was seriously lacking in a lot of departments.
It was funny, becasue I was like "boring Sam shit" and then "ooohhh robot battle........ borrringgg Sam shit..." and then "...omg Washington DC alien ivasio... wait where did all the decepticons go?" and "booorrrinn..." and then "OMG CHICAGO..... oh god more humans running around and shit...... YAY ROBOT... more humans....YAY ROB...that was it?"
First off, Apollo 11 did not land on the dark side of the moon. Every time they mentioned that, I cringed.
Second, the movie started off very boring, with lots of Sam shit. I feel his pain that he wanted to do something to save the world, but it seemed strange that no one seemed to know there were giant robots on the earth at first. Everyone was like "What giant robots?" I can't imagine the US government covering up GIANT ROBOTS rampaging over the Pyramids or in LA or something. They're kinda hard to hide.
However, I did like Shia's acting in this one. Instead of being a little bitch that even the women in the series have more balls than he does, like some harem anime, he actually grows a pair and flips his shit a couple times. Now, flipping his shit at a bunch of armed guards was pretty damn stupid.
And there's part of the problem. In the beginning of the Chicago scene Sam has more testicles to walk into a Decepticon trap than that chubby black dude that was an ex-special forces. Sam having more balls than a Special Forces dude? And here I thought Bay got chubbies from the US military looking badass.
Speaking of that, during the Chicago bit, I'm surprised the US military didn't throw more at them. It's like they threw a couple of cheap shots at the Decepticons, but didn't really try. I expected more like a ID4 scene with 1000 jets and throw in some tanks and shit.
I really didn't expect the Sentinel thing at all. And it doesn't entirely make sense, either. Spoiler: Sentinel wanting to enslave mankind? That doesn't sound like anything an Autobot would do. And poor Ironhide. (BTW wasn't there a spoiler tag?)
And then there was that scene in Washington DC. A bunch of Decepticons invade.... and then disappear. Uhhh.... (plus, why was there so many decepticons on the moon and why weren't they in any of the previous movies?)
And then we come back to Chicago again. That part exited me a lot at first, but then failed to keep me excited. Mostly on the fact that once again they spend more time on the humans than the robots. Okay, there's a building falling over and everyone's inside. Who cares. During that entire sequence we don't see a lot of Autobots. The autobots disappear. And then Bumblebee appears out of nowhere and saves Sam. Then a second later him and the other autobots are held prisoner, like a SECOND later. Like it didn't even give them enough time to BE captured. Then Optimus appears, then Optimus disappears. Then 20 minutes later some other autobots appear and then disappear a minute later. And the whole time it's showing Sam and his whore gf and the cowardly special forces. I DON'T WANT TO SEE HUMANS DAMMIT.
The times where the Autobots did show up were allright for the most part. Although Optimus really seemed to have no problem killing Decepticons almost GLEEFULLY.
And, like all Michael Bay movies, the movie felt packed together. Where the camera rapidly switches between two characters or angles and people talk real fast. Armageddon was real bad for that shit.
And like the other Transformers movies, the camera angles sucked half the time during battles. Less jiggle cam, but plenty of "Hey, there's a giant robot doing something, but all we can see is the robot's foot, and the humans running around underneath. I wonder what the robot's doing, but Bay would rather focus on stupid Sam and his hijinks."
All and all, certainly better than movie 2, but not by much.
