I didn't have issue with that. It's more like a combination of his behaviors that really grated me. Such as:

Except that it wasn't him being a real captain, he was in a test where the point was to show how to confront the unbeatable. That's like a high school kid cheating on the SATs in the most creative way possible. Shit shouldn't earn you a prize. The point wasn't to pass no matter what (i.e. in a real life situation: to live no matter what), it's to show aptitude within boundaries, which have to be respected even as a Starship captain.

And when he cheats, he's absolutely shameless about it, crunching away at an apple like an ass. And then to be THAT freakin' arrogant when Spock calls him on his shit? He didn't even have the spine to take his punishment like a man. He was all "nooo fair!!11 but i can't pass wah wah wah" "i deserve to pass" "f u spock u fickin snitch pointy eard bastard". I can't stand that type of entitled attitude. All put together, that equals a class-A douchebag.

Well take issue with the people that wrote Star Trek 2 since they were just showing a story that was told in that movie. You side with Spock on this, but I side with Kirk. His thinking was outside the box and that can be very useful as a Captain.

Course in Star Trek two he didn't win the same way he did in this movie. There he made the Klingons afraid of the Great James T. Kirk. So that they retreated when he showed up.

Hey, I would've sided with Kirk if he hadn't gotten uppity about it like he had every right to do it. My main issue of contention is not the cheating in itself, it's the bratty attitude they gave Kirk about the whole thing like someone stole his juice box. (And that attitude is there throughout the entire effin movie.) He could've had more humilty during the test. He could've used, bah, logic to persuade ppl that he was right in what he did. He could've coolly played ignorant. He could said/done a lot of things differently that would've made him less of an ass. I hardly expected him to be polished but AU or not, this Kirk had no damn finesse at all. Disappointing.

Maybe...I can see where you are coming from, but it just didn't bother me as much. He was cocky about it, but Kirk has always been cocky.

And I think deep down I agree he should have at least been punished for it though. Back in like 2003 when Enterprise was stinking up the airwaves and I first started the explore the idea of trying my hand at writing I actually jotted down some notes about my "When I get enough name value I'll pitch this" idea which was a reboot of Star Trek not unlike this movie following Kirk and Spock from the start. Although in my version the Enterprise wasn't the brand new gleaming flagship of the Federation, but an older outdated, but still the backbone of the Fleet, starship. And that Kirk was given the command as a kind of punishment for what he pulled with Kobayashi Maru test. It was going to be crewed by Starfleets misfits and rebels (and in McCoy's case has-beens) and then sent on this 5 years mission of exploration to get them out of Starfleet's hair for awhile. Course then their adventures during that 5 years would be what made them most famous crew on the most famous Starship. Course then JJ got a hold of it and so I'll never get a chance at it one way or another.

Even I was going to punish him for it. I mean I admired he'd do whatever it took to win, but I just couldn't believe an uptight organization like Starfleet would ignore it and let him get away scott free.

Oh, I tried watching "The World's Fastest Indian". Anthony Hopkins really is a hell of an actor and several other people (like Paul Rodriguez for one) really shined in the few minutes they had, but damn, this thing was boring as shit. It just piddled and piddled along. I imagine it may have been vastly improved if it had been cut to a shorter film. And they should've focused more on the guy and his multiple speed records instead of this fish-out-water Kiwi-in-America adventure tale they appeared to have concocted.

I think it was meant in the way of pacing. Star Trek was always kinda moving slow, where as SW was fast. I think they just wanted it to be more fast and exciting like SW.

I don't know...after the first half hour kinda dragged I was ready for some fast paced action. And after seeing the "Enterprise fly around" scene from Star Trek: The Motion Picture I just don't think Star Trek could get any slower then that. I was like "Yeah ok I get...the Enterprise is different now."

I saw:

Silver Hawk - It's a cheesy action flick where Michelle Yeoh is world famous model Lulu Wong who moonlights as costumed vigilante Silver Hawk. Not downright slapstick, but done in a goofy style almost befitting a cartoon. It was a good popcorn movie.

The Dinner Game - a.k.a. Le Dîner de Cons. This is another French Veber flick (my fourth by now, I believe) where these snobs organize weekly dinners in which each attendee brings an unknowing "idiot" with them and the guy who brings the biggest moron with him wins. The main character, a book publisher named Pierre Brochant, finds his idiot in this taxman named François Pignon (which is the common character name in many Veber films) who builds matchstick replicas of landmarks in order to cope with his divorce. The problems begin when Brochant hurts his back and can't attend the dinner, but had already arranged for Pignon to meet him at his house so they could attend the dinner together. However, Pignon really is a grade-A dumbass and manages to completely fuck up Brochant's life. I didn't like it as much as I liked The Valet or The Closet, but it was still a very decent film.

I saw Quantum of Solace again. I braved the mad rush of 4:30 PM(yes I said PM, I'm not getting up that early unless I stay up that late.) on Black Friday and got it for 9 bucks. Still don't like it as much as Casino Royale, but it's not as bad on the third view through.

That might have been the second Delta Force movie. I don't remember that scene.

Sadly, during that movie I kept on making bad Chuck Norris jokes in my head. When a customs agent in Israel asked for Chuck's passport, I said "he's Chuck Norris, he needs no passport. His fist is a passport!"

The local Hollywood video let me know I had a free rental for my birthday, so I went to get a movie and ended up getting two. Ironically the day later the Hollywood Video closed for good. Wasn't even sure what to do with the DVDs, had they not had my credit card info on file I might have kept them instead of shoving them in the slot anyway.

First movie was Punisher: Warzone. From this trailer with it's enjoyable metal soundtrack, I expected a non-stop orgy of excessive violence. Sadly the trailer was more enjoyable than the movie. I found myself a bit disappointed that there wasn't more gore in the movie. Some days I just want to satisfy my inner misanthrope by watching lots of people die.
But, the movie was rather enjoyable despite that. There was a rather fun scene where an FBI agent disarmed a mobster, and while he was moving behind him to cuff him, Frank blows his face off with a shotgun at close range, and the FBI was like "God dammit frank!" So even though the plot wasn't the best and it wasn't as violent as the trailer depicted it was an enjoyable way to spend the night of my birthday.

The second movie was the new Blood: The Last Vampire live action version. I'm not sure where this was filmed... it had a Japanese main actress, a chinese producer, and a french director. But I'm glad they didn't make the protagonist some stupid American teen. That spot was filled with Saya's friend, and god I wished that annoying teen would just get eaten or something. The movie was okay but might have been more enjoyable if the special effects weren't so cheesy. Whenever blood would splatter, it was CG blood and it looked like a stream of small purple globs. Punisher was low-budget too and even it could do blood splatter a lot better.

And it's not going to be done better. It's why they changed the setting to a planet for Aliens. They weren't going to do it better, so they had to take it in another direction. Which is really what all Sequels should do, but rarely do.

I saw Monsoon Wedding. Not much to say about it. It's decent.

Merla, meanwhile, was watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Then she proceeded to tell me what a giant clusterfuck it was. I wish I had taped her or something, because I'm certain she was waaaay more entertaining talking about it than that movie must've been to watch.

I think they called him Victor Creed several times. Anyone that read Marvel comics in the 80s early 90s should know who that was.

Although I think the guy that played him in the first movie looked the part more.
