Since it did nothing but rain and I was feeling a bit under the weather, I made it a weekend for movies.
On Friday, I saw Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3D before it left theaters. It was nice seeing both movies on the big screen (I actually never got to see Toy Story 2 in the theater), but the 3D effects didn't really work well for either movie. The only scene that really stuck out was the opening for Toy Story 2. Still, outside of some SHITTY music choices, these are classics.
On Saturday, my girl friend and I rented Drag Me To Hell and Observe and Report. I had wanted to see both earlier this year, but never got around to it. Drag Me to Hell was actually pretty good. If you can, watch it with surround-sound. It's actually pretty creepy for a PG-13 horror flick and shows that Raimi still has it. I'm generally not a fan of twists in movies, but this one was really well done. Observe and Report has its moments, but I'm not sure that I really liked the movie. It's a bit hard to follow and the movie has trouble finding its tone, but there are a few memorable scenes, especially the ending. This has probably one of the most shocking endings I've ever seen in a movie.
Yesterday I saw Where The Wild Things Are. I've been looking forward to this one for a while now and I wasn't disappointed. It's a great looking movie and I really loved the mix of practical effects and CG. The story is very simple, but you somehow manage to hang on to what's going despite the fact you know from the start it's just Max's childish imagination, but it's easy to lose yourself in. I recommend seeing it.
