Okay the opening prologue is brilliant cinematography, I got lost shortly after that.

Watched the "Aliens" SE cut, which I got from Netflix today. It's balls that Hicks and Newt die. I'm keeping 3 and Resurrection in my queue, mind you, but it's still balls. Ridley Scott and Weaver both have interest in an Aliens 5. I think we should discover that Weyland-Yutani or someone else staged their deaths and clone Ripley meets them or some shit. I'm not enthused by the idea that 5 should be about the Alien Homeworld, the origin of the aliens, and/or the aliens encounter with the Space Jockey. I could honestly not give a namby-pamby fuck about any of that shit. You can fill in the blanks yourself: the alien homeworld is somewhere in undiscovered territory filled with fucking aliens; the origin of the aliens is that they were either a product of alien evolution or created by alien god in seven alien days (or both, whatever your preference); and since I don't recall aliens ever engineering their own tech, the Space Jockey landed somewhere where there were aliens and the aliens fucking killed him. We don't need a movie to explain this crap. Alien was a perfect film and does not need a fucking prequel. I'm tired of all these films with a need to explain every facet of everything. We don't need to know what came before Alien. I was under the impression that the AvP franchise was already technically doing that job anyway and FAILING.

Always assumed that the Space Jockey was transporting the eggs someplace for some reason or another. Since when Kane found the eggs there was a mist over the top them that reacted when he touched it. I always took that as a kind of early warning system to tell them if any of the eggs hatch. But the inside of the ship did look like a hive, so who knows what happened there, but I agree with you it shouldn't be explained. It's not something we need to know to enjoy the movie. It's enough to know that the ship was full of eggs, the pilot was killed and it crashed.

I'm not so much knocking the movies in that sentence, I was still harping on about how Hicks and Newt being dead sucks and makes me anticipate the last two films less. It's been so long since I've seen either film, I don't remember how I liked them. Although I think my opinion was probably in-line with yours.

And to reiterate, I think in a novel or comic or some other medium, maybe explaining those things would work. (I've only seen the films so I don't know what's been covered elsewhere.) I don't see the possibilities in a whole film based on that one premise. Maybe they should do an Animatrix kinda thing with Alien and Predator, where we get to see a bunch of short films on various stories in that universe. That could be pretty cool, providing they don't wander into Matrix-level pretention.

Also, since I saw Alien again today with the commentary, I'm disturbed at how sexualized they imagined the film to be in regards to the treatment of women. I wouldn't mind it if it also applies to the men but it doesn't. Xenomorphs apparently dig human gals. The alien is constantly referenced to checking out the women. At one point, Scott and Weaver talk about how they wanted to do a scene where the alien looks in fascination at Ripley's ~~bony ass~~ "pink body". And Ian Holm-bot's attack on Ripley with the magazines in her mouth is a rape since, to parphrase, "he doesn't have that part". FTW. Ew. (And why would they make an otherwise perfect human replica w/o a wang anyway?)

I'm also annoyed the commentary never explained why Ian Holm-bot flipped out. It just seemed to come out of nowhere. He had a directive to return with the xenomorph. Did his directive say "if not possible, rape nearest female crew member"?

Originally they weren't going to and the third movie was to be about Ridley, Newt and Hicks stranded on an alien planet.

Did they give a reason why that was scrapped? I mean other then Newt being way too old by the time they got around to filming it. (Guess she could have aged in the pod. IE: The Lion-O effect.)

I may be a little bias on the Alien 3 part. When I first saw it I thought it very cool there was a character with the last name Clemmons (although I think it was spelled the more popular "Clemens" way.) in that movie. He basicly fucked Ripley (Little quick after finding out Hicks is dead isn't there Rip) and dies.

I thought it was more like having it go in and out of production hell. Apparently 3 was like a Frankenscript of previous attempts, wasn't it?

I still haven't seen it. I can get Merla to chell it out from the school library and I've been meaning to, but it doesn't look like it'll be any different from the rest of his work so I never bother.

I liked Firefly and the Serenity movie. But all things being equal I'd rather watch Star Trek TNG for my sci-fi rerun non-dollar.

Last movie I saw was Crank 2: High Voltage just a couple hours ago. This movie was insane...loads of fun, but utterly demented. I've got "FUCK YOU, CHELIOS!" imprinted on my brain right now.

I saw Alien 3 and already sent it back. It's not terrible, but... meh. And a guy in the alien suit was more convincing than that CG. The SE changed the ending so that no alien pops out of her chest and that must've been my favorite part of the thing. The prisoners also needed to be more badass. Poor Ripley was stuck with the loser brigade.

Finished off with Alien 4. Weaver, Ron Perlman (that man is the shit), and a few of the other actors save this movie for me. CG is also less shitty. On the whole, there are better performances than in Alien 3. Bitchier Ripley is badass. Holy crap though, all the dialogue was written for a lost episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Whedon makes everyone talk like a teen boy. Gary Dourdan needed fewer lines, he was cooler when he was silent. Also, there was lots of needless stupid gore that could have been done in a more tasteful way... stuff like Dan Hedaya picking out his own brains and looking at them like an asshat. This is the sole film where the SE is hugely inferior to the theatrical. Though I didn't like the ending changed on the 3rd one, the other additions didn't actually make that movie stupider like they did this one. The ending and beginning of the Alien 4 SE blow chunks (literally, in one case). It makes me want to stab Jean-Pierre Jeunet in the eyes.

I also saw three Lethal Weapons, 2 through 4. You can actually see the decline with each successive film. Preggos and babies and Chris Rock and bad Chinese stereotypes let the franchise end with a nice death rattle.

I saw 9.

There were some visuals that were very Burton-esque, which I liked. The plot was a little 'eh' for my tastes. I did really like the imagery, though, and I don't really remember the soundtrack. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Heh, I saw the Hannah Montana movie. It wasn't half as stupid as I expected it to be, but that's not exactly meeting a high expectation. I did a lot of fast forwarding, especially when Taylor Swift's weird squishy face appeared on-screen.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

About what I was expected, which wasn't anything great. Had fun naming all the Mutants in the Island scenes, but that was about.

Funniest thing was the only special feature it had was a Anti-Smoking PSA. You know cause Wolverine makes it look so cool.
