This is super nitpicky, but Laura Dern's purple hair rubbed me the wrong way. Made her look like an over-the-hill YouTuber.

She had white and then super fiery red hair in Twin Peaks and I thought she looked amazing!

***SPOILERS***

The scene of Leia floating like Superman at the end of his movies will live in infamy for the rest of our days. I thought it was SO FUNNY , because it was SO BAD.

Im 101% sure Kylo and Rey are at least half siblings. (Because of what Luke said about him never seeing the blackness trying to reach someone so hard- talking to Rey and referring to Ben, also because of what Kylo told Rey about her parents being nobodies, sounded totally fake).

Who was Laura Dern's character Holdo supposed to be? They acted like we should know and that it should be totally obvious.

In any case, this movie sucked. Is it just me, or are they completely riffing off the original movies? TFA was a direct remake of ANH. This...what did they ever actually do?

Spoilers AHOY!
Quote from: Highlight the box to read my bitching
The Resistance is a bunch of poseurs. They beat the Dreadnaught early on in totally ridiculous fashion...with bombers...in space...yeah, think about that bullshit for a second. Then they jump to lightspeed, and then they sit around getting blasted at for two WHOLE hours. Granted, the thing about hitting hyperdrive straight into the First Order/Second Empire was freaking inspired...but why in the hell didn't they plan that from the get-go? And tell Poe about it so he doesn't commit mutiny? And being that he was demoted for not following orders earlier (which frankly should have been a court-martial if we're an actual military here) how is he not executed as a turncoat? And then they evacuate all super secretly to the nearby M-Class (heh) planet, while the 1st Order idiots obviously wouldn't have figured out without Benicio del Toro tipping them off.

Which brings me to the Collector Codebreaker thing. That was a complete and utter waste of time, a worthless jaunt that serves only to give Finn something to do other than whimper about Rey being gone. Oh, and it conveniently explains how 1st Order breaks the Romulan cloaking device the Rebellion/Resistance bought off an evil capitalist Ferengi from the planet newcomer Rose hates so bad. Was this nothing but a diversity diversion exercise or something? Give the token minorities something to do? And if that sounds insulting, it damn well should be. The only benefit was working Phasma the shiny blaster-proof bitch back into the story, only to (apparently) get the axe.

Since when is Leia a force user? She's always had a bit of force awareness, but never anything like force manipulation. That was completely out of left field. But ignore that: what pivotal role did Leia play in this movie at all? What a waste. They'll never have the chance at a do-over, either, and I find that a total shame. I figure in the next movie she'll be traveling throughout the Outer Rim drumming up Resistance allies, which will explain her absense without whacking the character (I think it'd be fitting if they made Leia live on in the SW universe).

Re: Luke, I'll go back to my overriding theme: What. A. Waste. He did nothing worthwhile except finally explain why Ben turned to the dark side. Yeah, he fucking failed him, all right! God damn, son, you are indeed the shittiest Jedi Master in the history of forever. The only thing he accomplished was delaying the invasion of the base at the end, and then after force projecting a ghost to "fight" with Ben, he gives up the ghost and dies watching twin sunsets like in A New Hope. Come on! What a pussy.

Then there's Rey, who had to deal with Luke's whiny ass and finally kick his ass in a fight before giving up and moving on. But she's a woke Warsie, wanting to sense goodness in a surprisingly-stout-built Ben Solo (seriously, his man-boobs look like Arnold Schwarzenegger's from twenty years ago), and she gets fooled by Ben and Snoke. So they face off a la Palpatine, Luke, and Vader in Return of the Jedi. But Ben pulls an actual awesome move in bifurcating his boss! But...dammit, who the hell WAS Snoke? It's like how many licks it takes to get to the center of the Tootsie Pop, the world may never know who that sumbitch actually is. Then they fight the Neon Genesis Crimson Guard in a cool battle...only for them to re-enact the "I am your father" faceoff from Empire Strikes Back, only this time with Ben Solo taking over the 1st order and Rey barely escaping. Then, no sooner does he become the new supreme leader, he reverts to being a screaming whiny child. You'd think he'd have grown up a little with Uncle Luke threatening to murder him in his sleep rather than regressed, but anyway.
Just...arghh! This movie was twice as long as it needed to be. They accomplished exactly NOTHING with this movie, unless you're talking about Ben Solo and Purple Hairldo. I destroyed a whole day off going to a good theater an hour-and-a-half away. At least the recliner was comfortable. Some of the trailers were fun, but I can't tell you what the movies' names are aside from the Avengers. I liked the one about the Matrix ripoff populated with video game characters in particular.

Also, while I don't particularly care for the humor of the Marvel CU-inspired dialogue, BB-8 is still reliably hilarious and one of the more useful members of the cast.

"We should all appreciate the minority actors who are all playing minor roles."

Yeah, here's a hint: if you see Kathleen Kennedy's name anywhere near a movie, minorities are getting shafted: shoved into tiny roles so you can point and say that they're there if they don't die or be villainous outright. I hate her. And she's President of Lucasfilm, so she'll be involved in the SW franchise until she's fucking dead.

I think it's funny that we're all trying to be considerate of one another with our spoilers even though no one who has posted about SW in the thread thus far actually appears to care about spoilers. It looks like you guys have already seen it and I never plan to watch it, so you don't have to worry about spoilers on my account.

So while I never plan on seeing any of these new SW movies, Merla on the other hand still watches and loves them. Merla was always the bigger SW fan than me. She's probably seen the OT about a hundred times within the last year alone (although even she was put off by the prequels and has never re-watched any of them aside from TPM). To a degree. I think she was pretty much "take it or leave it" with TFA but she reeeeeally liked Rogue One and she's already talking about rewatching TLJ despite every others 'Wars fan I've encountered talking of it like a delicious-looking pie that tasted like pure salt.

Anyway my point was...

...Admiral Ackbar dies! That's what she told me. She told me fuckin' Admiral Ackbar dies! WHY is no one else talking about it? That's the most tragic death in the film if you ask me. FUCK. :goddammit:

I'm willing to bet a lot of people didn't even realize Ackbar died. It's such a blink and you'll miss it sort of thing. As far as I can tell his actual "death" happens completely off screen.

Also, none of the characters acknowledge that it happened.

He got blasted off the bridge when Leia did IIRC. Unfortunately he'd not harnessed the powet of the force in the intervening years like she apparently had. I wouldn't have known it was supposed to actually be him, except for someone addressing him in an earlier bridge scene.

I saw The Shape of Water. Quality Guillermo.

Oddly enough, the guy who plays the merman is the same guy who played Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies, Doug Jones.

Yeah, it's pretty much his Abe Sapien fan fiction. Despite what he says otherwise. He had planned to do a separate Abe Sapien film. I don't believe a bunch of his ideas for that didn't end up in this.

So on The Last Jedi... I mean, jeez. The rebellion is so unsympathetic. How many deaths were Poe, Finn, and Rose responsible for? Poe especially seems like a likable dude and means well, but he's such a damn impulsive idiot he doesn't deserve to live. He pretty much killed your sister, Rose, and you don't care? Hell, Poe doesn't seem to even give a shit how many lives he sacrificed. I think the only thing that salvaged him was the almost mother-son dynamic between him and Leia. Poe should've been Leia's son. It would've made more sense than Kylo.

Holdo was the hero the rebellion needed and didn't deserve. RIP Holdo. Love me some Laura Dern.

Kylo is such a shit villain and Snoke was shit, too. I just don't see how either of these characters was considered a good idea.

Finn needed to be move involved with the actual plot. Finn and Rose would've been better off involved in the mutiny than doing their own b-plot story that goes nowhere and accomplishes nothing.

Phasma has nothing to do.

Fucking casino planet and fucking space race-horses.

Benicio del Toro's character DJ was so unnecessary. I didn't hate him, I just didn't see what the point of him was. He was, in his own way, trying to provide some insight to Finn. If Finn had been swayed or reacted to what DJ was telling him, then I could see why the dude was even in the film. If Finn had been coaxed into indifference and cynicism while Rey rejected Kylo with conviction, it would've made for an interesting parallel. As it was, DJ's "betrayal" is just more of the Darwinism of the rebellion in action. You guys found his shady ass in prison, the fuck you expect to happen?

I liked those stupid bird-things.

Titty-monster needed to be cut out of the film.

You know, Rey's a cutie and she looks nice soaking wet, but she's bores me. I liked seeing her fight with a light saber, but who doesn't look cool with one of those?

Yeah, I'm glad we solved that ancient mystery.  Ha!  Seriously, that part of the movie was so weird.  Like someone at Lucas Film was indulging a fetish or, I guess, uh, lost a bet?  It could have been 100% scrapped and made zero difference.  Well, now that I think about it, that's actually several parts of the movie.

Majority of it, really. Poe's misbegotten mutiny, Finn and Rose's trip to Gamble World, most of Jedi World....

Much like most of Disney's Marvel stuff, I really enjoyed Last Jedi in the theater, but as time passes and I ruminate on it, I realize that I don't care if I ever see it again.

I saw Last Jedi twice, I enjoyed it both times. I can definitely understand some of the criticisms but I still think it was a good film with some issues (mainly editing and an entire secondary plot that was pointless, unnecessary, and wasted two returning characters and two new ones).

Finally got around to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was fine, I guess? Nothing really encourages me to come back for the next one and I'm so fucking tired of Johnny Depp. Multiply that with the allegations made by Green Ambler Heard and I just want him to not exist anymore.

I still need to watch Bladerunner 2049, Thor Ragnarok, Get Out, and I'm sure countless other films that I don't recall at the moment.

Some have said this is Mark Hamil's best ever performance. They might be right but only if they're limiting to on-screen performance. Then again, there was Cockknocker.

I wanted to see Thor, but I wasn't going to my shitty local theater to see it, and the only day I had to see a movie last month was on the 15th, so I chose Last Jedi....

I downloaded a Korean rip of Justice League. I liked it way more than Last Jedi, but that's not to say that it was a good movie. But I will buy it the 4K bluray when it comes out.

Im laughing at all the memes about Kylo's shirtless (hot imo) bod. Like Ben Swolo, etc. I think his pants were just a bit high, that was it. He has a hot bod and I would 10/10 be on that like white on rice.

So Just finished watching "The Paperboy". Wanted to watch it cause I thought it was an easy going movie about a cougar (Nicole Kidman) and her boytoy (Zak Efron) and i was WRONG. Oh boy was I wrong. FUCKED up movie, but I did like it. Also I've never seen Efron act before so I was surprised that he was good. Also John Cusack is always a plus (first time I see him acting as a bad guy).

Watched Insidious the Last Key and it was boring. I hate movies that are all jump scares. Dont waste your time with this one.

The Dark Tower: Meh.  I dont know what is wrong with Matthew McConaughey's face, it always looks like its melting. Is it all makeup? But then again, why would they make him look the same way in all his recent movies? (he was in the Paperboy too). Is it bad surgery?

I'm pissed I missed The Shape of Water in the cinema. Ill have to buy the pirate version now :(

Do him and Daniel "Face of a Well-Loved Leather Satchel" Craig come out in any recent movies together? It'd be like Dueling Banjos except with ugly mugs. Adam "I'm just a nose and my lips are falling off and, also, muh skin" Driver can play their son. They can all be shirtless for Faye. In fact, they probably would need to be to distract from the faces.

Finally watched One Flew Over the Cuckoos' Nest. Such a good movie. Cant understand why people call nurse Ratched the worst villain ever. I mean is there another movie with the same name/same character? Or what?

Watched the french movie called Raw. Good movie, a bit artsy (typical french film) but I would not qualify is as an "horror film".

"Dont Breathe" was good too, and it definitely shows a different perspective from all the other "home invasion" films. I enjoyed it a lot but also gave me lots of anxiety . Hated the ending tbh.
