Thank God. I thought maybe I was becoming a curmudgeon. Well, maybe I am, but at least I'm in good company.

Oh my God, I've never agreed so much with a group of reviewers.  Those guys are my people.  I want to see that Oceans One: A St*r WarzzZZ Story they pitched.  I wouldn't even have minded a happy ending retcon: some of the rebels died but after delivering the plans, the others made it to a planet with no way off so they just lived out their days in peace and that's why the other rebels think they're dead.  Rogue One looks so depressing.  Who wants to see a dreary, bummer movie like this one?  Like the election of President Orange isn't downer enough and now we can't even rely on Disney to give us an uplifting movie at Christmas.  "We killed beloved fan favorite Han Solo last year, we need to one-up those tears, gentlemen."

Are you familiar with those guys at all? I can't recall if we've ever discussed the Plinkett prequel trilogy reviews around here in the past. Ever since watching those, I've been following Red Letter Media. More often than not, I tend to agree with their opinions, and their critiques and observations are pretty much always hilarious.

Nope, not a bit.  I just completely jived with what they were sayin' tho'.  :poo:

So I watched this doc on Netflix called "The Minimalists" and it was just so meh.  It's got the problem that really plagues the minimalism/decluttering/small space/simplyfying/tidying movement or as I like to call it (as of today) MDSST+: it is overrun by pretentious blogger hipsters.  I had trouble putting this into words earlier to Merla, so I made a handy Bingo card...

Correction to the above: the movie I saw was actually called "Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things."  What a pretentious title.  "The Minimalists" are actually two guys involved with the film.  They get to be "the minimalists," you know, 'cause the domain happened to be free and all.

It's certainly pretentious, not to mention....not minimalist.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

BWA-HAW-HAW, I didn't even think about that.  'Minimalism: A Documentary.'  'A Minimalism Documentary.'  Something like that would've been more apt instead of that bloated mess we got.

He did a good job showing his point with that Episode IV edit.  You lose a lot without the banter.  But, man, now I want to see all kinds of movies with inappropriate laugh tracks added on to them.

I feel like those Half in the Bag guys were reading my mind in regards to Ghostbusters.  Their reaction was exactly my expectation.  Also saw their review of Star Trek: Beyond (the review kinda dragged... still think I'm happier not watching that movie even tho' they had mostly positive reactions) and Doctor Strange (where they displayed their complete discomfort and lack of understanding regarding industry whitewashing... but I still laughed at the rest of the review).

They liked Beyond, didn't they? I remember that pissing me off, because I fucking hated that movie. Or maybe just one of them liked it? I can't recall.

I'm kind of addicted to those guys. Sometimes I'll go to a movie I wasn't otherwise interested in because I suspect they might review it. Haha! I know I'm weird.

Yeah, they were sorta "neutral happy."  Not "this is the bomb" or "I love this" but a solid 3/5 reaction: this wasn't too terrible; superior to the other film but it's not like that's a high bar; not Orci but fuck Orci; could eat popcorn to it without regrets.  I wonder how Beardy (I don't know their names, har) would've reacted to it if he had actually been a Trekker.

I liked Beyond, but primarily because it wasn't Into Darkness.

I'm impressed with how long this is going on.  Also, loved their Hobbit reviews.  Especially when they reviewed the first one and totally called how the barrel scene would play out in DoS.

Oh boy, it was Keanu's week at Chateau Faye so I watched:

Knock Knock: God, Keanu can be such a great actor in some movies (Matrix, John Wick, Constantine, and yes Lake House) but in others, when he actually has to show some emotion, he SUCKS. This movie is one of them. He plays a "devoted father". That doesn't fit him at all. Sex scenes were great tho, saved them on my "hard disk" (wink wink).

Neon Demon: Now this one was a surprise cause I didn't know Keanu was in it until I saw his name on the credits. its one of those artsy movies that makes you say "what the fuck" (but not in the "I'm impressed, this is amazing" kind of way). Elle Fanning sucks and her neck is way too long. Jena Malone is hot tho. I liked the music too. Keanu's acting was good, he was all rough and macho . Loved it (until he ----spoilers---- raped an underage girl).  Oh but its visually stunning so would recommend for that.

Oh and bought Bridget Jones' baby. I'm in love with the whole franchise and mr Darcy in general, so needless to say I recommend this movie 10/10 .

I wish the ending to that didn't feel like a tacked on cop-out.  "Oh, he returns to the human village?  But what about our five sequels?"

Haha. I noticed the movies thread had been bumped by Faye, and my immediate thought was, "I'll bet she saw the new Keanu!"

I want to see it. Maybe this week.

I went to Lego Batman the other night. It was good, but... I don't know. Something was off. It just didn't grab me like the Lego Movie. There are some really, really great scenes, but overall it was just okay.

Is it really any different from the other Lego Batman offerings?  "Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite" was cute so is this new one like the Lego movie and that other Lego Batman movie had a child?

I haven't seen any other Lego movies, but I'm willing to bet the production value is way, way more impressive in this than in that other one you mentioned.

Wick 2 was as awesome as the first...

Does another dog die in this one?
...with 100% less canine deaths.

This movie is the ultimate in cinematic firearm pornography. As you might imagine, I was thrilled. Especially given that Keanu is, in his private life, an accomplished gunner with substantial 3-gun competitive experience that I respect the hell out of. It didn't hurt that, after a crummy day at work Monday, I was fully in the mood to watch dozens of nameless henchmen get annihilated via gunmanship and Krav Maga.

You guys are actually kinda making me want to see JW2 in the theater.  Do you have to see the first one and can someone go into this pretty cold?

I dunno... I mean, on one hand I'm sure it'd have to be but on the other, I still enjoyed that other Lego movie.  At no point did I say to myself "I wish they only had a higher production value."  It sorta did, well, it's job with what they had.  Which is actually something I miss from film-making these days.

It helps to have seen the first, but it's not like there's some major plot points you're going to miss. Essentially, he had to make a bad bargain to survive in the first movie, and now it's coming back to haunt him. And it opens with him reclaiming his car that was stolen in the first film.

Just got back from Logan.

It's gooooooooooood.

It's really gooooooooooood.

I guess the third time really is the charm.

I don't want to be dismissive of everything that came before it; obviously this story and these characters wouldn't exist without all the groundwork that's been laid these past 15 or so years, but God damn this is just the best X-Men thing. Just the best. Who knew letting Wolverine be Wolverine would work out so well? Sarcasm aside, I really enjoyed this film. I look forward to seeing it again somewhere down the road.

Still haven't seen John Wick, gosh darn it.

There was a Deadpool 2 "teaser" ahead of Logan that didn't do anything for me. I'm not gonna pretend that the Deadpool character is some nuanced icon of modern literature, but what they're doing with him in these movies just comes off as incredibly one-note. Like, they haven't even attempted to touch on the whole multiple personality disorder thing, I guess maybe they figured it would be too confusing? If Reynolds is happy coasting along in goofball mode the entire time and audiences gobble it up, I suppose that's all we'll be getting.

Finally caught John Wick. They pretty much have to do a third one now, right?

They'd better. That was a heck of a setup. John Wick 3: Everyone Dies & Return of the Boss.

Watched Risen this week. Interesting premise, but on the whole I wasn't really impressed. Then again I generally don't care for Jesus movies given my opinion regarding the second commandment admonition against graven images and the conflict of artistic license with the prohibition of adding to or taking away from the biblical record.

Also watched Dr. No for the first time in some years this week. It had its moments, but it really isn't much of a movie. Thank goodness for From Russia With Love, which was a far superior movie and probably saved the franchise ahead of the overhyped but good Goldfinger and awesome Thunderball.
