How so? The whole point of that was everything that was happening in the movie was actually the kid controlling the legos and playing with them. And the evil villain represents his dad who wants to keep his lego city exactly a certain way and doesn't want his kid playing with it.

Gremlins
Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus? Howie Mandel as the voice of Gizmo? Okay I'm interested now.

I last saw this movie when I was but a wee lad, and I remember the movie scaring the shit out of me back then. I hadn't thought about watching it again until I found one of my old Gizmo stuffed animals.

I can kinda see why it creeped me out. It's not necessarily scary, just... gooey. Gremlins oozing out of their pods, gremlins vomiting, gremlins melting into a pile of goo. And, for a horror comedy, people die quite a bit in this movie. In any case, even though this is supposed to be a horror COMEDY, I didn't find it that funny at all. Certainly, the gremlins taking on various stereotypical roles based on what they saw on TV (like the trenchcoat flasher in the bar) was kinda amusing, but not laugh out loud funny. More like, silly satire.

I'm also not exactly sure how such a creature as a Mogwai can evolve let alone exist if water makes it multiply. How does it eat when most food HAS water in it? What about the water in air? What happens when it rains, does the Mogwai become a Duggar? Also, the movie implies that all the gremlins are dead, but near the end of the movie the radio DJ says the marines were fighting off the gremlins with "water hoses" so yea....
In any case I found the puppet animations of Gizmo to be quite good and he was pretty adorable.

Okay, so Kate hates Christmas because her dad tried to climb down the chimney in a Santa suit and broke his neck and died? What? Seriously, what chimney is big enough for a man to fit down? And has he ever heard of a flue? That was the dumbest part of the movie.

A decent movie though. I thought that Kate was cute, but she's the same age as my mother so she's in her 50s by now...

Lego Movie
Not the best movie I've ever seen but I found it fun anyway. Except for that stupid song they kept singing through the movie.
I was most impressed by the fact that the majority of the movie was filmed with actual lego pieces and stop motion. Seriously.

Ghostbusters
Seen it many times, own it, nothing more to add.

I may have said this before but I noticed that Dana is the "Gatekeeper" and Louis is the "Keymaster". And then they apparently make love when they meet. Think about it. Key=penis, gate=vagina. The man is the Keymaster, the woman's the Gatekeeper. That whole bit is oddly sexual. Or I'm just a perv.

Oh, and I want to add to the Lego Movie review:

What kind of dad is Will Farrell's character anyway? He has all those legos in his basement built into a giant city and he doesn't even let his son TOUCH them. What, he can't invite his son to come down and help him build the city? Even if he wants the city to be a certain way, he could still be like "Son, I'm building this skyscraper want to help me out?" The kid's an adolescent not a 5 year old he's old enough to be able to help you build things the way you want them, and then you could offer to have him design things for himself as well. "Thank you son for helping me build what I want to build. Now, is there anything you want to build for this? Any ideas you have?"

Farrell's character gets shittiest dad of the year award. Maybe shittiest dad of the century.

I was convinced Ant-Man would be Marvel's first major misstep, but it was actually pretty good. I mean, it could still end up bombing, but it won't be because it's a bad movie.

I'm curious what was added/removed following the departure of the original creative team. It definitely had that Edgar Wright flair throughout, so it couldn't have been too overhauled.

Saw on the "coming soon" that theres a Keanu Reeves "erotic horror" movie coming. OH HELL YES. Its called Knock Knock and Ive already seen the trailer and yes there are some graphic sexy times showing. Its like Christmas is going to be in August

Ant-Man....Had a rather lame bad guy that was a rip off of the one from Iron Man 1, but other then that pretty great. But then I have a man crush on Paul Rudd so he can do no wrong in my book.

I rewatched Wing Chun with Michelle Yeoh. I hadn't seen it in years. I forgot how cheesy that movie is but I liked it. I will not be watching Inside Out or Ant Man. Neither movie offers me anything I want. When Faye mentioned Keanu, I remembered that I've been meaning to see Man of Tai Chi. I hope it's still on Netflix.

If anyone feels like checking out a movie, you could do a lot worse than The Man From U.N.C.L.E. It's actually really good, but it will probably never get a sequel because it's eating it at the box office right now. Not surprising as the marketing was abysmal bordering on non-existent.

Take it from someone who thought the movie looked like an unnecessary pile, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is worth a look. It's kind of like James Bond or Mission: Impossible only it never goes all the way up its own ass. Not that recent entries in either of those are anything to scoff at, but they can be a little self-serious at times.

It's fun and it's funny, and that's all I'll say about it.

Actually, I'm surprised Armie Hammer can still get work after Lone Ranger, but I suppose you can hardly blame one guy for that train wreck. And he's good in this, everyone is.

Okay. Just watch.

Saw it yesterday. I found it to be a fun movie if you don't go into it expecting high cinema (seriously, why does anyone?). It's similar to the recent Sherlock Holmes movies in construction--duh, same production team--so, if you liked those you'll probably like this.

Edge of Tomorrow... I mean "Live. Die. Repeat." I mean Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers (literally).
So the movie is about aliens who invade Europe from a meteor. The movie begins with a D-Day assault from London onto the beaches of France to reclaim Europe (the movie is heavy on Normandy imagery). Cruise's character Cage is a public relations officer with no combat experience, told to go to the front lines and film for propaganda reasons. He's a coward of epic proportions, refuses, and is demoted and forced in an infantry squad to fight on the beach. Where he and the military is slaughtered by a surprise alien attack. He's covered in alien goo and wakes up right back where he first joined the squad. And gets killed, relives the day, gets killed, relives the day, over and over. He meets another woman who once had the powet, turns out the aliens can time travel a bit and he has their powet. And they have to save the day and kill the aliens.

This very much feels like the gritty satire of Starship Troopers mashed with the comedy of Groundhog day, and yes there is comedy. Some rather Michael Bay-ish, but some funny. Making the same stupid mistake over and over again and stuff. Trying to kill yourself over and over again and failing. There's also quite a bit of drama in it as well.
And the exoskeleton suits are just plain awesome.

One of the things that bugged me about this is how, despite Cage being a coward, he gets dumped in this squad with no training, not even on how to operate one of the robo suits. The rest of his squad didn't seem that much more disciplined either. Considering how bad he was, he becomes a liability, he could shoot an ally in the back on accident, or hold back the team and get them all killed. A military unit is only as strong as their weakest link. Plus they did treat him pretty horribly even if he was a dick.

But this was a funny, dramatic and action packed movie and I loved it.

Dragonball Z Resurrection F
Does F stand for Fuck this shit?

So, a total fanservice movie. Hey look Frieza's back! Some of Frieza's minions resurrect him with the Dragonballs. He spends 4 months training to beat Goku. Frieza comes to Earth, blows up an entire city for fun. The Z gang, minus Goku and Vegeta, fight off Frieza's army quite efficiently in a rather entertaining battle. Krillin and Tenshin actually fought without dying uselessly. Roshi bulked up for a change. There was some pretty good CG in it as well. Then Goku and Vegeta show up to save the day.

Here's the thing I was thinking about the whole time during this movie. Frieza trains for 4 months and manages to create a new more powerful form of himself, Golden Frieza. Yet Goku and Vegeta have been fighting Gods and Play Dough blobs for YEARS since they fought Frieza and are now "God Sayans" (When you know they're godmodding the main characters lol). So, shouldn't have even been a contest. Yet, oddly enough, Frieza stands his ground for a while. Well, not that long.

Also, when Earth is saved in the end, the Z team says "We'll use the Dragonballs to restore that blown up city." Um, that's going to be in at least 6 months because the balls were just used to undead Frieza. Isn't anyone going to notice there's a giant city missing? "Well there was a city here, now there's a crater. That's odd." I think a missing city would be noticed by SOMEONE.

Still, it was a typical DBZ movie, and a decent one. Good action scenes and the battles didn't span 30 episodes.

So I jumped on the bandwagon and watched the 4 Scream movies. Afterwards decided to start watching the most popular slasher films. So far the best one Ive watched has been the classic Black Christmas. Its a bit long but its SCARY. That film is also considered as the one that many modern slash films copied crap from (like the " who's calling? oh shit its someone in your own home", etc). Also watched Prom Night and it SUCKED so don't watch that one.

I saw Shamalamadingdong's The Visit last night, and while it's still dumb as hell, it's probably the most watchable thing he's made in a long while.

Apparently it cost a modest 5 million to produce, and it's already earned close to 30!
