I don't know about that.  I imagine she needs icepacks under ta-tas of that magnitude.
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Jesus fuck... that Eiken's like pr0n without the nudity. There's so many borderline almost-pr0n scenes in there... the water all looks like semen when it gets on women, the guy gets in all sorts of situations where his arm/hand/leg are rubbing some girl's boobs or crotch, and an eel even crawls into some girl's swimsuit. I'm suprised this isn't labeled "not for children".

And why the fuck does the 11 year old have to have the biggest breast size? It makes her look like she has elephantits of the boobs! And they defy gravity too!  :puke:

If you want to wash Eiken off the palate, watch Girls Bravo, the greatest harem show ever.  The fanservice is very well-done and it's hilarious.  And IDE *IS* Fukuyama!

Also, if you watch it, be sure to listen to it in English...it's one of the few animes that benefits from localization.

I just saw the first disc of Fate: Stay/Night.  It's not a terrible anime by any means, by it feels kinda blah.  And the third ep was nothing but boring psuedo-explanations that leave more questions than they answered.  Not really impressed at this point, but interested enough to still queue the second volume.

Fate:Stay/Night is mediocre. It's plot twist is Ultra LAME ANd makes me want to beat people senseless. THough I do admit it has one of the best Death Fight sequences I've ever seen. Period.

I just remembered an anime I once saw, about two years ago. Only saw two episodes but it looked fricking sweet. it involved this photo journalist who sneaks into some uber-rich secret society and he gets endowed with the awesome gift of blowing people up by taking their picture. So much for family vacation photos (but what if he runs out of film?). I remember it being uber-violent and excessively pervertedly sexual and I can't remember what the damn show was called.  :goddammit:

Oh yea, and it had Duran Duran for the intro theme song. And there was some kind of Mr. Fantastic with a rubber bondage fetish.

Karas' Moving Castle
« Reply #75 on: Jul 30, 2007, 03:08:30 PM »
I rented Howl's Moving Castle and the first DVD of Karas over the weekend.

I didn't like Howl's as much as I thought I would. Maybe my tastes are just too high or something, or maybe I'm not some liberal Canadian film lover that jacks off at every artsy film that comes out.

First off, you have this girl who meets Howl for all of 5 minutes, and then the Jello Witch comes in and casts the spell on her. Why would the Witch have any reason to be jealous of the two... they've only just met and they haven't even gotten to the raunchy sex yet! There also seems to be a lack of the important details in this movie...why does Howl ingest the spirit? Why is the Witch of the one kingdom after him? Did he have powers before he took in the Spirit? A lot was kinda left in the air. And there was other things that just bugged me about this, and I can't remember what those were.

Oh yea, it was a 2 DVD set, but the second DVD only had a storyboards extra. WTF? Why waste an entire disk for some storyboards?!

Karas is like... "Holy shit the LOL MATRIX SLOW MO and WTFBBQ JIGGLEY ACTION CAMERA ROFL have invaded Japan!!!" The action scenes leave a lot to be desired at times. They all look like they were directed by Michael Bay himself, with crazy camera angles and shakey camera moments and shit flying at the camera all wild like half the time, and it's too chaotic to know what's happening at times.

Not only that, but the whole thing feels like they tried to cram in a 26 episode series into 6 episodes. There's all sorts of 1 minute scenes that are trying to explain things that are better explained in 5 minutes. Not only that, but you barely get to know any of the characters. The main character, the Karas, all you know about him is that he's comatose in a hospital and his spirit fights demons for another spirit. You don't find out anything else about him, like his background or what motivates him. Hell, even the villian barely gets ANY screen time! The most screen time is taken to secondary characters, like a detective investigating the wierd shit going on, and a girl who seems to get caught up in all the wierd shit.

At least near the end of the first dvd did it feel the storyline was getting a little more fleshed out, and it was starting to get slightly better in both terms of story and action.

There's a second DVD.. The first DVD is episodes 1-3 squashed into a movie. And it came out in April 2006. The second DVD is still not out.

Howl I'd recommend to people who are Ghibli fans. Karas I'd only recommend as a rental, and I'm not even sure about that. It's all flashy pretty shit and no substance.

Oh yea, and it seems they only have up to episode 4 of Karas completed. What happened, did they run out of budget for all the pretty pretty Michael Bay CG battles?

Because the Witch wants Howl for herself.  Not really established until the end where she wants Calcifer.  I don't recall a lot of the other details, but there's the book of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones.  It's at a Harry Potter sort of reading level, so it's easy to peel through.

Dude, no idea.  I do agree it's pretty much for Ghibli fans only.

Y'know, I think maybe the storyboards were drawn by Miyazaki himself. I'm not too sure, though. I think it's neat to look at them. I like looking at sketches and stuff. It's kinda neat to see how the pros work.

There seems to be a nice helping of extras on the first disc, though. But, it seems to be focused a lot on the American localization of it. But it shows Miyazaki visiting Pixar studios and them screening the English version there (and it's a neat-looking place, I guess). And uh, there's another one where it shows Christian Bale recording his voice for Howl.

But yeah, I didn't like Howl's Moving Castle. I saw Spirited Away, thought it was mostly pretty good, so I bought Howl's Moving Castle when it came out on DVD. Come to think of it, those two movies are kinda similar... they draaaaaaaaag on when it nears the end, and then they put in a rush ending -_-

Someone lent me the first Karas DVD a long time ago, so I watched it. I couldn't see shit. It was too dark. This may have been largely the fault of my dad's projection TV that we used to watch it, as that TV is kinda old, seems blurrier than a regular TV, and has very poor contrast for dark scenes (I couldn't play some video games on it for this reason, because it was so dark).
The first scene in Karas was kinda neat, and reminded me a bit of Big-O.
But overall, I thought the DVD was a waste of time.

I also borrowed Blood: The Last Vampire, which was better. It's only about 45-50 minutes long, though. If you watch it with the original audio (which I think may be all there is), some characters speak both English and Japanese throughout the story. I thought this was pretty new and unique, and it fits within the context of the story. Oh, and this "movie" is kinda dark... and the main character, Saya, is pretty serious and gruff, unlike how she is in that Blood+ series (Which I don't watch, because it looks like they made her meek and useless).

I love that Blood thing.  I didn't think I neccessarily would, but it solidifies for me that anime and hell, whatever work animated or not that you look at, it works better in a small powerful dose.  A lot of shit get dragged out longer than it needs to be.  I'd rather see a fluid feature than 26 episodes of still screens with panning and talking to feign action and movement.

Blood+ could have been a passable 26 episode series, instead it's a mediocre 50 episode ordeal.

Like Beck said the Witch of the Waste wants Howl for herself.  They use to have thing but then Howl found out the Witch faked her beauty so he left her.  Howl ingested Calcifer, a dying falling star, because they made a deal. Calcifer wanted to live and Howl wanted Calcifer's dark powers.  There was a price to pay at the cost of Howl's heart and Calcifer's freedom.  The witch from the kingdom who is after him is the King's sorcerer, Madam Suliman.  She is Howl's old mentor who Howl fears.  Madam Suliman is upset with Howl because he took off before completing his training, made a contract with fire demon, and refuses to assist the King with the War. Yes Howl had powers but he wanted to be stronger.  Were you even paying attention to the movie?!?

Fate Stay Night is just okay.

Has anyone here seen Ergo Proxy?  What sort of anime is it? Do you recommend it?

Also is Kyo Kara Maoh worth checking out?  I liked the preview I saw for it but we all know how misleading previews can be.

I bought the first Ergo Proxy and was frankly bored.  Maybe it gets better later on, but I'd rent/borrow it before committing.   I'm quite liking Kyou Kara Maoh - wish I had caught it from the beginning.  If nothing else, Yuuri engaged to Wolfram is a hoot.  ;D

I saw the same previews Merla saw and the girl looks hot but the show looks dull.  At least Fate/Stay picked up, even I have to wait to see the last two volumes.  But that'll give me time to finally move on to Twelve Kingdoms.

I got some of this. But it still doesn't explain why the witch of the west went after Sophie right away... she had just met Howl. Unless she saw that her and Howl were together at that moment, and by the way they were acting assumed she was dating him.

The Sub says that Howl was "interested" in the Witch, it mentions nothing about a date, but if that happened I assume the Witch was good looking back then due to a spell, either that or Howl has a thing for giant blobs. Or maybe he was just interested in her powers.

It still doesn't say if Howl had powers before he ingested the spirit though.

And it doesn't explain how Sophie's spell was broken (not all the way apparently), either seemed to be when she showed love for Howl, or stood up for herself instead of calling herself plain and ugly all the time.

Also, it seems there are never any true villians in any Miazaki film.. :/ They all end up at least semi-good at the end.

Dig this though. The credits say the movie is based off a book. Now I want to read the book.

Oh yea, and Calcifer was the best character in that movie.
